Hi all. I am 38 plus 5 days pregnant and just wondering if there is any MN out there getting a little impatient with all this waiting. I am getting a lot of sharp pains and some back ache but nothing that really indicates that I will be going into labour any day soon. Anyone else feeling the same??? My EDD is 26th August - the day after my birthday so am looking forward to a really speacial birthday present Smile

It's my DS first morning back at preschool tomorrow (he started at Easter) so I'd like to be there to take him too. He is looking forward to it but it's different when they get there especially if he's woken up without mummy there, but I don't want him to miss the first day either!

Just really trying not to focus on being induced now, which is coming up way too fast :(
and I have decided that the hassle of continual monitoring after the date they want to induce me is too much trouble with me still working so will accept the induction but if you can keep smiling Roz14 I should too as you are more overdue than me!

Thanks for the support EmmaRoyd, nice to see you around even though you've had your little one :)

Roz14 · 05/09/2010 21:07

Cinnamon - I am trying to focus on the induction date too which is wednesday for me (although they did tell me to call them in the morning to make sure they can fit me in Hmm). We are in our final week ladies, so lets enjoy it. Try and think of the positives:
We are still (possibley) being fussed over.
We have gained another couple of special weeks as mums-to-be.
We havn't got to think too much about baby weight yet and cutting out those delicious cakes.
Mmmmm - anything else [grin}. Sending positive vibes out.

that's a good way of looking at it roz... ie to enjoy our final week as a mum-to-be. Blimey, just realised, this will be my last week ever of being pregnant
time to stop wallowing and enjoy the last few days with DS on his own

erm, one question for you though... when does the 'being fussed over' part start?!

oooh, i've got a few more though.... being able to roll over in bed, being able to sleep without a millions pillows surrounding me AND being able to sleep on my stomach Grin Oooooh i remember the first time i lay on my stomach after having DS And being able to just stand up from sitting on the sofa without having to plan it. Being able to eat pate on toast

lol, all of mine are sleep/bed related!

just realised i've listed off a load of things that i'm looking forward to and we were meant to be doing what we're enjoying now...give me a minute...

to be the only person in the whole world who can feel her every move

tweakers · 05/09/2010 21:52

'her' being my DD in case anyone was wondering!

EmmaRoyd · 05/09/2010 21:57

Sleeping all day and awake all night, I'd forgotten all of this. I've had less than 10 hours sleep in total since Wednesday night. DD (21 months)was very sweet when she met him for the first time, she gave him iggle piggle and a piece of baguette! now the novelty has worn off and she is a bit jealous and tantrumy. Try not to be disheartened, it's just a matter of days. Have you decided on a name yet? Midwife who delivered me was called Esther, she was awesome.

EmmaRoyd · 05/09/2010 22:05

Sorry I was answering roz14 but I missed a few posts after that. By the way I meant baby is sleeping all day not me! I somehow still seem to be doing washing and tidying!

Roz14 · 05/09/2010 22:25

thats more like it tweakers - think positive thoughts. I know what you mean about the sleep/bed related positives, that is something to look forward to. Oh and Pate on toast - I really missed having this at christmas (just love having it at that time of year but anytime will do mmmmmm)Im also trying to enjoy my time with DS and DH nefore we become a four from a three.

Emma - I bet you are having a fantastic time, even without the sleep (that can be another thread for next week Grin. Ahh that is so cute about about your little one. Oh my gosh I am so sorry, I forgot to ask you what did you call the baby in the end???

Ooooh maybe Esther is a sign for me Smile

William. Cue hilarious gags from DH's family about DH's little Willy.

Anyone know how to type a square bracket on iPhone? I don't know how to put smileys in, that joke deserves a 'not amused' emoticon.

Roz14 · 06/09/2010 05:05

Hi Emma - I can see you are up around the same time as me. William is a lovely name. Is it feeding time? Smile

Well, I have come down stairs after being woke up with strong contractions. DH was in bed and was supposed to be timing them but is half a sleep and getting really confused, so I thought I would come downstairs and time them myself. I think they are coming just under every 10 mins Smile

If I am in Labour, I don't want to go to hospital in monday morning rush our traffic, so keeping an eye on these times Smile

ooh is it 5am party time?

tweakers · 06/09/2010 05:22

roz i'm jealous and excited for you all rolled into one!

Emma..ignore the ignorant wotsits... william is a beautiful name
here are some square brackets for you [] Smile

i'm only awake because i needed a wee and can't get back to sleep now Hmm

Roz14 · 06/09/2010 05:25

Hi Ladies - dont get too excited yet tweakers. Had slight but not strong contractions since 5.05, so maybe things arnt moving so quickly after all. I am going to walk around for a bit to see what happens Smile

OP posts:
tweakers · 06/09/2010 05:36

ok, well i'm too excited to sleep now anyway so pop back after your walk Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 06/09/2010 07:56

Thinking of you Roz14 I had some more contractions in the night but they were very mild and I went back to sleep after each one. Not sure when they started and had 5 before I got up so not sure how far apart they were, same as Friday night though stopped as soon as I got up :(

EmmaRoyd to get square brackets on iPhone you need to go to numbers then press the #+= button and they are there.

Have to agree with tweakers I'm not getting fussed over! After the fuss (in a bad way yesterday) not sure I want any! DH wasn't feeling well this morning and despite me trying to persuade him to go back to bed as he may need to be at his best for me soon, he insisted he had to go to work so I said why don;t you have an extra cup of coffe and I'll walk the dog when I get back from the school run as I'm not working til 1.30 after that and he nearly ripped my arm off! So now I'm walking the dog and doing my ironing in my few hours to myself! But I have decided I'm picking DS up in the car as I will have to walk to school again in the afternoon as I have 5 children, so no room in the car!

My baby's movements are now very uncomfortable so I'm not even enjoying that as I did. Really can't think of anything to be positive about being pregnant now :(
Even the baby weight thing I can't be positive about as I have lost weight since being pregnant so weigh less than when I got pregnant.

tweakers · 06/09/2010 08:41

oh cinnamon, sorry to hear you sounding so down

does the ironing have to be done today? can you do the bare minimum at least?

cinnamongreyhound · 06/09/2010 09:46

It doesn't have to be done but I don't want a massive pile in case I do go into labour! Am sitting watching TV at the moment but I will go and do it before I pick DS up. At least I got to take him to preschool and he went in very happily :)

How are you feeling today tweakers?

No news from Roz14, could be another baby on the way.

tweakers · 06/09/2010 09:51

that's what i was thinking re Roz too!

was feeling pretty down and rubbish earlier, but have stopped moping, cleaned kitchen and i'm now playing with fire engines whilst bouncing on my ball

well if i were you, i'd do the bare minimum but then i only ever iron if i really have to! DH mostly does all of his own shirts for example!

i'm really pleased DS went off with a smile on his face Smile

tweakers · 06/09/2010 09:53

i've been proactive re appts too...sweep at 1 today and reflexology tomorrow morning

cinnamongreyhound · 06/09/2010 09:59

I'm a bit of a control freak, which doesn't help me as I end up doing most things myself as I want it done my way! DH is very good (previous wife did nothing so he is very domesticated) but often it's not worth his while as I fix it afterwards, especially with all the hormones!

Good luck with sweep, still got no time for mine! She will apparently ring me in the morning to sort out a time, hoping it will be when the kids are asleep as otherwise I'll have to leave them alone for a bit and take her upstairs. Seems so strange for them to come your house to do it! Thought about reflexology as yoga instructor recommended it but my feet are horrible and I'd really be embarrassed to get them out Shock

tweakers · 06/09/2010 10:06

my feet aren't too pretty at the moment but you know what, i figure she's seen worse and if she hasn't, tough!

wish mw was coming here but i've got a mile walk each way to mine Hmm I do now have my bro coming round to play with DS while i'm out so DS at least doesn't have to witness another sweep

i've relaxed my standards and figure anything DH does, is something i don't need to do. The only thing i'm still in control over is our food shopping. it still amazes me how he can spend so much and come back home with half the things on the shopping list!

cinnamongreyhound · 06/09/2010 10:27

I know I'm my own worst enemy!

Right I'm off to do my chores :) Good luck at 1, fingers crossed this is the one! The walk back might help too!

tweakers · 06/09/2010 10:29

thank you! hope you get yours sorted ok and yes, you might be right about the walk Smile

Roz14 · 06/09/2010 15:39

Hi all, just to let you know that I am still here and still pregnant. Contractions coming 10-15 mins apart, quite painful but not very regular. Had a busy day taking DS to school and have got in-laws around looking after me Smile hope everyone is ok today. Will catch up later Smile - not had chance to read other posts put will catch up with you all later Grin

WelcometotheJungle · 06/09/2010 17:21

Congrats to Candinha - I also got told at 9cm that I was not getting an epidural after screaming for one. Midwives have their own idea about how things are going to go!

Congrats also to Skyeplusbump well done!

Roz - what a long wait! You really have been very patient. I also was sent home the first time, it's very disheartening. I hope you are currently on the job so to speak. Your contractions sound promising!

tweakers - You poor thing, still waiting. I am feeling for you. You also have been very patient, the days seem to go on forever don't they?
I know what you mean by about the school run. I let DH do it for the last week before bub since he was home and I was too fat and fed up to be bothered.
How nice of you to ask after James. I got inspired enough to set up a profile and posted a photo on it.
I'm not sure what the time is there but I hope your sweep was effective. Don't forget the 'rodgering' if you can manage it!

I have been trying to post for a couple of days but was trying to catch up before I did and I kept falling asleep at the computer!

DHs and shopping? IKWYM, Well if there was ever a time to let that happen, this would be it I suppose.

I'm sorry you have to walk so far, hopefully it helps things along.

Cinnamon - Hopefully your sweep works for you too. Get those feet out!

I absolutely must tell you ladies about a pressure point (think it's called BL31 that DH used on me in labour. I swear it helped with the pain enormously. (And I have the lowest pain threshold known to man!)

I eventually delivered standing/crouching so he could keep on pressing it and holding me up at the same time!. (I would have been the last person in the world to anticipate a standing delivery for myself, I am so self concious and conservative).

You know the dimples in your lower back just above your bottom? The pressure point is midway between the dimple and the spine (funnily enough, the place you tend to touch when you have an aching back anyway).

I can't tell you how much I think it helped. I was desperate for an epidural and was told in transition that it wasn't going to happen.

When the pain started each time I called DH to 'come put your hand on my back' and while it didn't stop the pain it definately made it more bearable.

I can't recommend it enough. I only stumbled across this info 2 or 3 days prior to labour. I've been hoping it's not too late for someone to be able benefit from it.

I did have some pethidine at some point but the pressure point was working before that also.

Sorry for the mammoth post, hope you're not all snoring now. Blush

Best of luck ladies, I'm sure there must be exciting things going on right at this very moment....

tweakers · 06/09/2010 17:26

hi all
sounds like i'm in a race with you roz Grin
sweep was good, 50% effaced, cervix forward and i was 2-3cm before she did it
walked home quite quickly and have had surges on and off since. DH just got home and told me off for not timing them..oops! i don't reckon they're that regular yet but who knows BlushGrin
anyhow, think i'd better go and do something early labour related!
