Starting Calorie counting tomorrow. Anyone want to start with me?

Bookaholic73 · 22/03/2025 21:42

My current weight is 11st 4lbs.

I have a holiday in 7 weeks and would like to lose 2lb a week before my holiday, reaching 10st 4lb.

I already exercise consistently and love it. I do HIIT classes, life weights and have started boxing.
But now I just need to lose the fat.

My calorie deficit is 1700 a day, and I’m aiming for 120g of protein a day (or as close to that as possible).

Anyone else want to start with me tomorrow, or just join in if you’re already calorie counting?

I'm with you and starting tomorrow. Holiday in 8 weeks and want to lose half a stone before then then another half before summer. We can do this!

spackleplumb · 23/03/2025 10:35

Hi I’d like to join if that’s ok. I have lost 92lbs so far though keep gravitating back up by 1lb off and on. I am currently 11st and would like to be a little closer to 10st again. I know it’s cos I’ve been quite relaxed in my calorie counting that the weight is stabilising so would be good to get my focus back. I’m not doing terribly as I have maintained for the past 5 months or so, just would like the last bit gone too if possible. My calorie allowance was 1200 at most for most of the past 18 months (other than the last 5 months where it’s been nearer 1800) so I’ll start around maybe 1350/1400 and see how I do. Good luck everyone!

Wow you've done amazing!!! Good on you. I've been faffing around same losing then gaining but I'm desperate now to sort this. 12st exactly and on 1580 cals a day to lose half a pound a week (rather go slow and steady) but will try eat under that. When I was on 1200 a day it just didn't work. We can do this. Let's check in this week.

Bookaholic73 · 23/03/2025 10:50

It’s great to have people on board with me, thanks all for joining!

@marmi Sounds like we have a similar time frame for our holidays. I’d love to be able to look back at the photos from the holiday and think I look ok.

@spackleplumb wow, you’ve done amazingly! 92lbs is a great amount and you’ve kept it off too. I’m impressed! Feel free to pass on any tips.

What day do you all weigh in? If you’d like, we could all have a Monday morning weigh in and report back. I think a Monday morning weigh in each week would keep me on track over the weekends (I tend to over eat on the weekends).
Let me know what you think.

I’m happy with a Monday morning weigh in. That’s my usual weigh day so works for me. And thank you both. I developed gallstones which was the kick I needed to address my diet properly. I have no cheese, bread, pasta, pizza, alcohol and no crisps, cake or chocolate either. Very low dairy (mostly dairy alternatives in coffee etc) and replaced bread with some crackers for things like lunch etc. Low sugar and low carb overall. It did take some adjusting but fairly easy after the first few days. Extreme yes but has kept the gallbladder pain at bay very well so it’s been worth it.

Mammaoftwo0920 · 23/03/2025 11:33

I’d like to join in please, I’m ready to start tomorrow to shift some weight before my holidays in the summer.

BG2015 · 23/03/2025 11:46

I'll start too with you please. I actually have a holiday in 3 weeks so want to lose a bit before then and then carry on when I get back as I have a further holiday 13 weeks after.

I need to lose just over a stone. 56 and at that stupid post menopausal time when the weight just won't shift.

Im using the Nutracheck app and going to buy it when my free trial runs out.

I could have written this after my gallstone episode!
Managed to lose 4 st with plain old healthy eating!
Low fat, high protein, minimal processed carbs and an occasional treat of a glass of wine (Prosecco, pinogrigio & Sauvignon blanc being lowest calories 😉)
Biggest regret is not being able to scoff a block of cheese in one go…but my body says thanks.
Keep up the good work …those holiday pics will be fabulous!

marmi · 23/03/2025 11:51

Monday fine by me. Need to up the movement and decrease the bad food choices.

spackleplumb · 23/03/2025 12:17

Well done @Gall10 Do you mind me asking if you had yours removed in the end? And yes I miss cheese sometimes too.

I’ve been thinking about reducing my carbs, specifically in my evening meals. I need the carbs at breakfast time to go and do my weights and boxing, but I’d like to cut out pasta, rice, potatoes etc at my evening meals.

I’m 45 and weightloss is so much harder now that I’m perimenopausal. I need to lose a stone too.

OP posts:
marmi · 23/03/2025 12:39

It certainly is. Used to be able to cut down and the weight would drop off. Really hard now!!

Bookaholic73 · 23/03/2025 12:42

What is everyone using to track their calories? I’ll be using My Fitness Pal, although I’ve heard that apps like Nutricheck is also very good.
I have got my head around how to use MFP so am happy to use that.

OP posts:
marmi · 23/03/2025 15:45

I use Nutracheck as it just seems so straightforward. I don't add any exercise to gain more cals. Just my cals eaten.

Mammaoftwo0920 · 23/03/2025 15:46

I also use Nutracheck. Have used it on a few occasions in the past and found it helpful to have.

Bookaholic73 · 23/03/2025 17:15

Ok, I have downloaded nutracheck despite my insistence that MFP is what I’ll use.

I’ve written a list of meals I want to make, and I need to go food shopping desperately. So I need meat, veggies and breakfast items.

Starting tomorrow Monday 24th March. Weighing in tomorrow morning 😬

OP posts:
marmi · 23/03/2025 20:32

Good luck all! We are armed and ready!

Bookaholic73 · 24/03/2025 07:36

Good morning…and we’re off!

I weighed myself this morning, to double check my starting weight, and it’s still 11st 4lbs.

today I need to food shop and meal prep, as I have hardly any any veggies in the house, and I need to get chicken and turkey mince.

Im going to be making my evening meals lower carb, so I think I’ll plan my evening meals and prep as much as possible.

marmi · 24/03/2025 08:03

Yay good one! Off for a swim tonight so will weigh myself at the gym. Feel huge and bloated today so that's motivation in itself. Good luck all!!!

spackleplumb · 24/03/2025 10:16

Morning! Weighed this morning to make sure starting weight is right and I’m sitting at 11st 1lb at the moment. Bring it on and have a good day all!

BG2015 · 24/03/2025 12:38

Weighed myself this morning and I’m 1.6lb down from Friday.

Probably fluke!

Bookaholic73 · 24/03/2025 12:59

I skipped breakfast this morning as I ate too much yesterday, not going to lie. ‘Last meal before losing weight’ vibes 😬 and I wasn’t hungry at all until just now.

Ive just had lunch, a pitta bread filled with tuna and some chopped salad and light mayo. Total calories were 355.

I am already convinced that nutracheck is so much better than MFP! But does anyone know how I change my calorie goal? It says I should eat 1200 cals, but my deficit is 1700 as I do a lot of exercise.

Bi, I'm starting a calorie counting diet today. I'm 5,2 and weigh13.5 st.

I haven't dieted or even weighed myself in a couple of years so mortified to jump on the work scales (nurse) and see I was officially obese. I've gained about 3 at since lockdown.

I'm 40 and have an embarrassingly sedative lifestyle so hoping increased walking and calorie counting may help.

My weight gain is all from lockdown too. I struggle to comprehend that was 5 years ago. I need to do something about it asap.
