Starting Calorie counting tomorrow. Anyone want to start with me?

Bookaholic73 · 22/03/2025 21:42

My current weight is 11st 4lbs.

I have a holiday in 7 weeks and would like to lose 2lb a week before my holiday, reaching 10st 4lb.

I already exercise consistently and love it. I do HIIT classes, life weights and have started boxing.
But now I just need to lose the fat.

My calorie deficit is 1700 a day, and I’m aiming for 120g of protein a day (or as close to that as possible).

Anyone else want to start with me tomorrow, or just join in if you’re already calorie counting?

@TinkysWinkyhow long has it taken to lose 8lbs? How many days have you done 1200 and 1600? I’m on 1800 at the moment and want to drop down to 1600 but want to lose 16lb in 10 weeks

TinkysWinky · 23/05/2025 13:52

@carrottopper 8lb off in just under 3 weeks - I only did the 1200 days this week as things had stalled somewhat (see earlier post about putting on 1lb!) but it wouldn't be sustainable long term. Coming into a long weekend away now for us so I will be aiming to maintain and to pick up 1200 again from Tuesday for a few days. Hoping to get plenty of walks in to balance a few glasses of wine out 😁

On the 1200 days I had a slim bagel with an egg in for breakfast, home made veg soup with a good portion of chicken breast in for lunch and a salad, again with protein e.g tuna, chicken for tea. Also snacks eg some light crisps or an ice cream bar. Lean protein is key I find to not getting hungry again quickly.

Good luck with your weight loss! 💪

How I get 10k steps in before midday.

I get up EARLY. I really love waking early in the mornings, it’s so quiet and peaceful.

Find somewhere you enjoy walking. It never feels as bad when it’s beautiful scenery, an area you enjoy etc.

I started my walk at 7am and finished at 8.30am.

I can’t do this on days that I work. So on those days I split it into 3 30 min walks. One in the morning, 1 in my lunch break and 1 in the evening.

I'm on day 3. Doing 1200kcal as I'm short and don't really do any exercise other than walking. I've got a 1 year old baby and I've piled on the weight. She was breastfed (and still is) and I've been permanently hungry 🙈

Current weight is 13 stone 10. My goal is 9 stone, but tbh I'd be thrilled with 10. I've lost 4 stone before so I know I can do it, but man, I forgot how hard it is at first!!

Wow, that’s amazing having lost so much weight before!
I vaguely remember the BF hunger 😬

So many people say they lose weight breastfeeding lol, but I've done nothing but binge on carbs for a year 😂

I'm doing 1200kcal but will go up to 1300kcal as well, but being the wrong side of 40 I think it's going to still be hard to lose weight.

It's good that you're walking!

I've been finding the food not too hard, the first few days I felt so hungry but I've found my rhythm now.

carrottopper · 23/05/2025 22:48

I’ve been using nutra check. We had a takeaway tonight. I had a chicken tikka wrap. I basically had the chicken and salad with about a quarter of a naan bread as an open sandwich and a tiny bit of sauce. I’m logging it about 600 calories. Does that sound about right?

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 24/05/2025 11:26

Whoop first proper weigh in this morning.

I started at 11.2lb but lost 2lb within the first couple of days so I'm thinking a bit of water weight.

Weighed myself now and I'm 10st 12lb. I haven't seen a 10 at the start of my weight in YEARS!!

Sallysushine · 26/05/2025 08:21

Hello! It's been a while since I posted. I started on 12th March eating between 1,100-1,500 calories a day (I'm 5 ft 3ish) and hitting 10,000 steps minimum. I've lost 20 pounds so far 😊. Hope everyone else is okay and happy with their journeys.

BG2015 · 26/05/2025 08:30

Im coasting a bit I think and not being totally honest with myself. Not gained anything but not losing either.

Only reason I haven't gained is because I'm exercising. Back on it today though.

Keep hanging in there. It's hard to stay motivated all of the time. It's definitely a marathon and not a sprint isn't it.

BG2015 · 26/05/2025 10:10

@Sallysushinedefinitely. It doesn't help when a Bank Holiday weekend comes along and the weather is sunny.

Hoping to lose this week now. I'm off work so can swim or walk everyday. There's no nice food in bar some ginger nut biscuits 😂

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 31/05/2025 09:18

I've lost another pound this week, hoped for more but I'm not surprised, I tend to lose weight really slowly. 1lb a week, 2lb if I'm lucky after an initial big loss.

I did manage to get to the gym a couple of times this week, but I've also had to travel a lot for work so have spent most of my week sat on motorway.

BG2015 · 31/05/2025 12:09

I've lost another pound too. Just need to keep it up now. 7 weeks until my holiday.

Tripthelightfantastical · 01/06/2025 04:39

Will join! I desperately need to lose three stones .

Tripthelightfantastical · 01/06/2025 04:54

My downfall is that I am in a total food rut. I just cannot think what to eat and have lost all interest in cooking. I don’t eat much meat and am pre diabetic so need to be really careful about carbs. I am totally at a loss.
Breakfast is Greek yogurt with berries or scrambled eggs on toast . Lunch is usually home made soup and a couple of oatcakes. Dinner is salmon with veg or salad, breaded fish with veg or frittata, veg chilli or something like that . I am just so bored of my meals.
Im trying to do 10,000 steps a day but otherwise very sedentary.
I don’t eat processed foods or snack generally .

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 09/06/2025 08:47

Been really good this week with calories and exercise and have only lost 3/4 of a lb! 🤣

BG2015 · 09/06/2025 18:01

@MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel my body seems to hold onto the weight for 2 weeks and then I lose it. It's bizarre

I had a goal of 10st 9lb by 17th

I'm 10st 10 3/4 lbs

So fingers crossed my body does like yours and I can a bigger loss this week.

TinkysWinky · 10/06/2025 12:02

Hi all, just checking in. In 12.5 lb off now at the 5 week point. I have to say I feel I have much more will power than previous attempts to diet. It's slow and steady really.

Now that I'm into the swing of things I'm working this week on increasing the calories in my main meals and reducing snacks.

Hope everyone is well!

BG2015 · 11/06/2025 06:42

Trying to lose weight at 56 is just so hard. Stuck at 8lb. I'm going to have to really be strict with myself now.

Sallysushine · 12/06/2025 17:51

Just checking in! Calorie counting since 12th March, started off at 11 stone 12, today I'm 10 stone 2. Would still like to lose another 7 lbs ISH (I'm 5 ft 3). It's definitely coming off slower now.

Petitewinter · 12/06/2025 21:15

Hi,
I started calorie counting properly today. I'm using the free NHS calorie counting app.
The NHS recommends 1400 a day but I'm not sure it's enough as a different website states 1200. However I can not see how on earth I would be able to stick to 1200.
I'm vegetarian, and short but do some light exercise in the week.

I would love to see some breakfast and lunch ideas that's low cal.
Dinners for the week ahead will be re used HF and Gusto cards and smaller portions if high in calories.

As with all diets, I struggle around my period I get VERY hungary and put on around 4lb!

How has everyone else worked out how many cals to consume?
