Starting Calorie counting tomorrow. Anyone want to start with me?

Bookaholic73 · 22/03/2025 21:42

My current weight is 11st 4lbs.

I have a holiday in 7 weeks and would like to lose 2lb a week before my holiday, reaching 10st 4lb.

I already exercise consistently and love it. I do HIIT classes, life weights and have started boxing.
But now I just need to lose the fat.

My calorie deficit is 1700 a day, and I’m aiming for 120g of protein a day (or as close to that as possible).

Anyone else want to start with me tomorrow, or just join in if you’re already calorie counting?

I’ll join you, I’m on holiday in 17 weeks and would love to lose weight beforehand.

Hi all. I just wondered if there’s anyone here who is around 5ft2 and just needing to lose a few pounds? If so, how many calories are you losing on? I’m using Nutracheck, but getting very confused about contradictory advice for how many calories are either ‘not enough’ or ‘too much’. Does anyone have any thoughts about what number of calories would be a sensible amount?

Bookaholic73 · 18/05/2025 16:33

Good evening everyone!
I am back from holiday now and jumping on the scales tomorrow morning 😬

Healthy food shop done, so I’m straight back at it tomorrow.

If anyone wants to recommit or start again tomorrow with me, everyone is welcome!

Doesn’t matter if you only have 3lbs or have 30+lbs to lose, we can all support and encourage each other.

Have you googled and found your TDEE? Then take away 300 from that number and you have your calorie deficit number.

I'll join, if that's ok. Lost 2 stone a few years ago calorie counting but took my eye off the ball counting and piled it all back on and more.

I've been calorie counting 2 weeks now, with 6lb off. Ideally I would need to lose around 4 stone but I'd be happy with 1 by my holiday at the end of July as a starting point.

Can I join?

I go on holiday on 18th June and would love to lose 5-7lb by then.

I don't lose weight easily, my body loves to hang on to it. I'm currently 11lb at 5ft 3in. Desk job, I teach karate 3 days a week but it's mostly stood telling people what to do as opposed to getting a sweat on.

Embarrassingly I have a gym membership but rarely go.

I'm working with a 1200-1300 calorie count. It feels low but my TDEE is around 1550..

BG2015 · 18/05/2025 20:39

I find that at 56 I don't need to eat as much as it says I should. I'm eating 1200 a day and the weight is slowly coming off. I have been having an odd gin at the weekend but including it in my tracking.

Bookaholic73 · 19/05/2025 15:38

Hi @TinkysWinky great to have you on board. Huge well done for getting back on CC’ing, sounds like it works so well for you! 6lbs off in 2 weeks is amazing!

@MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel welcome to you too. Do you know what stops you from going to the gym if you have a membership? Is it not knowing what to do, but having the time, or something else?

I feel so much better now that I’m back to CC’ing and hoping my holiday bloating will disappear by the end of the week!

@Bookaholic73 thank you for the warm welcome. Yes, it definitely works - when you stick at it!

Tracking well so far today. Low calorie bagel with light cream cheese triangle for breakfast (190cal), home made chunky veg soup with chicken for protein at lunch (100cal), bounty ice cream for a snack (135cal). We will be having home made lean burgers for tea and I will probably have the burger (170cal) and a bap (200cal) and salad to the side instead of chips.

Hope everyone's day is going well!

I think it's just tiredness. My job is seriously full on, by the time I've logged off, fed the kids, fed the cats, fed myself I'm ready for my bed 🤣

I sometimes lift some weights in my bedroom before I go to bed at least. But I need to up my cardio a bit.

Bookaholic73 · 19/05/2025 19:28

@TinkysWinky that good sounds great, I love a burger!

@MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel is it possible to go to the gym before work, instead of afterwards? Or maybe the gym isn’t going to fit into your life at the moment and you can do a 30 min walk in your lunch h break daily?

I’ve had a good day today. Did a workout, went on a walk, drank my water. My food was on point too. Feeling pretty positive today.

I did an hour of badminton today and then went for a run, and boy am I not a runner (not outside anyway, I don't actually mind the treadmill).

But it meant I ended up in quite a big calorie deficit as I'd had less than 1000 calories across 3 meals. So I've snaffled a banana.

I think I'm moving past the always hungry, can only think about food phase 🤣

I can't get to the gym in the morning, as I'm needed to chase teenagers out of bed. I'll make more of an effort to go after work I think, even if it's just for an hour.

carrottopper · 20/05/2025 21:23

@Bookaholic73please can I have an update how you are getting on? I’m 11stone 6 and want to get down to 10stone 5 in 11 weeks. I’m not sure if I can do it but going to try and increase steps and protein. I’m debating which calorie tracking app to use too. What are you doing to hit your goal?

TinkysWinky · 21/05/2025 14:32

Feeling a bit low about things today - half week point and despite sticking carefully to plan, weighing every bite etc, some days even under my target calorie count the scale is saying 1lb on! Know could be water retention etc but I have a coil, so no periods, can't blame monthly cycle. The weight feels slow to come off this time round.

Bookaholic73 · 21/05/2025 16:19

Ugh today’s not been great, I woke up feeling very poorly. So barely ate anything, although I did go for an hour walk and made sure to drink my water.
Tomorrow is another day.

@carrottopper i hit my goal and then went on holiday and totally fell off the wagon 😂 So now I am planning on losing the weight again
I’m using MFP (My Fitness Pal) to track my calories. I’m on 1800 cals a day with 150g protein and drink 2L water a day. That’s it. Nothing too difficult.

I’m back to 72kg and my goal is 63.5kg. I think I’ll be able to lose that 9.5kg in 12 weeks, fingers crossed!

Aw don’t get too disheartened. There are loads of reasons you could gain a pound. And it’s not even been a week.
If daily weighing isn’t for you, maybe just weigh weekly?
I’m going back to daily, but just treating the number as data. No emotional connection, it’s just data telling me what works and what doesn’t work for my body.

You're probably right, but I do like the routine of weighing daily. Just surprised things are so slow this time round. I definitely feel like my willpower is far better than previous attempts but if I drop the calorie count any further that might not remain the case! Slow and steady lol

carrottopper · 21/05/2025 17:14

@Bookaholic73how do you track protein on MFP? Do you pay for the monthly subscription?

Bookaholic73 · 21/05/2025 19:45

@carrottopper no I only have the free version, although I’m tempted to try the paid version.
To track my protein intake I click on ‘Diary’ at the bottom, then where it says the number of calories you have remaining for the day at the top. Then click on the ‘macros’ tab at the top. That tells you the calories, carbs, protein and fat you have eaten for that day.

Bookaholic73 · 21/05/2025 19:46

@TinkysWinky slow and steady is definitely the way forward. Remember, the slower you lose, the more likely you are to keep it off.

Good morning everyone.

I’ve already smashed my 12k step goal for the day, had my breakfast, drank some water, and am about to go to the gym.
I’ve got a busy day today so knew I’d have to get up and get it done early.

Calories will be stuck to today. Without fail.

OP posts:
carrottopper · 22/05/2025 23:24

Wow that’s brilliant. How did you do 12k so early! Im struggling to get 12k in before bedtime. I went on the cross trainer at home cos I was only on 8k after being so busy at work

TinkysWinky · 23/05/2025 07:49

12k so early in the day is amazing. I must start counting steps!

2 further pounds off, for a total loss so far of 8lb, which I am pleased with. 2 more pounds would get me down into the next stone bracket, so that is my next mini goal. To get things moving I did 1200 cal for a few days but will relax that back to 1600 cal at the weekend.

A stone by my holiday is looking more possible 🎉
