Starting Calorie counting tomorrow. Anyone want to start with me?

Bookaholic73 · 22/03/2025 21:42

My current weight is 11st 4lbs.

I have a holiday in 7 weeks and would like to lose 2lb a week before my holiday, reaching 10st 4lb.

I already exercise consistently and love it. I do HIIT classes, life weights and have started boxing.
But now I just need to lose the fat.

My calorie deficit is 1700 a day, and I’m aiming for 120g of protein a day (or as close to that as possible).

Anyone else want to start with me tomorrow, or just join in if you’re already calorie counting?

My cut off time for eating is 7pm, so I’m ending the day on 1690 calories.

Today was easy only because I wasn’t hungry after eating too much yesterday.

I’m just going to prep my breakfast before settling down for the evening. One of the best things I’ve been doing is making double of everything so I only have to cook every other day.

What is everyone using to track their calories? I’ll be using My Fitness Pal, although I’ve heard that apps like Nutricheck is also very good.
I have got my head around how to use MFP so am happy to use that.

I use myfitnesspal too. You can scan barcodes which is useful and even the free version remembers a lot of what you add so it’s easy too add it the next time. It also counts your steps (on my iPhone it does - not sure about other phones!).

BG2015 · 24/03/2025 19:02

Today has been ok.
Porridge for breakfast
Chicken salad for lunch
soup for tea
fruit for snacks

I'll be fine until Friday night when I'll be craving a gin and some crisps.

Yeah weekends are a struggle for me too.
Have you considered calorie banking?

If you’re not sure what it is, it’s a way to ‘save up’ calories during the week by eating 100-200 cals a day less, and then you can eat those on a weekend.

I used to do that but honestly I struggled to stay on track during the week after eating more on the weekends.

Instead, I’m going to be making lower calorie ‘fakeaways’ on the weekends.
I follow quite a few people on instagram who share recipes, and I love Salt & pepper chicken & chips by Bethany Dobson. It’s on her IG page.

As firm as this might sound I’d strongly suggest don’t do anything different on weekends to the rest of the week. It becomes habit pretty quickly and you’ll see results faster if you avoid calorie banking, cos as you say it’s easy to lose track. I’m on 854 calories for the day at the moment, will have a light snack to get me up over the 1000 before bed. I had aimed for 1400 overall but I find it hard to maintain that so 1000-1100 will do for today. Well done everyone we’ve smashed day one!!

I skipped breakfast this morning as I ate too much yesterday, not going to lie. ‘Last meal before losing weight’ vibes 😬 and I wasn’t hungry at all until just now.

Ive just had lunch, a pitta bread filled with tuna and some chopped salad and light mayo. Total calories were 355.

I am already convinced that nutracheck is so much better than MFP! But does anyone know how I change my calorie goal? It says I should eat 1200 cals, but my deficit is 1700 as I do a lot of exercise.

From your nutracheck diary click on the three lines at the top right, then under settings click 'nutrient goals' and then 'set my own goal'.

Another nutracheck fan here!

spackleplumb · 23/03/2025 12:17

Well done @Gall10 Do you mind me asking if you had yours removed in the end? And yes I miss cheese sometimes too.

No I havnt had it removed…. I also had stones in bile duct, has an ERCP (nothing to be scared of if indeed you need one), havnt had any bother since that. Since bile stones removed I havnt had a single episode of indigestion and funnily enough I havnt had a single hangover either !!!
if I’m called in for gall bladder removal I don’t think I’ll go ahead with it….im eating healthier & touch wood alls remaining well. Here’s hoping you stay well xx

AllyDevon · 25/03/2025 07:23

Hi! I’d like to join please!

I’ve gained realistically four stone since I have a little girl two years ago, lost the baby weight ironically but the mat leave/ return to work weight has been a killer!

i’ve lost weight previously on slimming world but can’t commit and find it too restrictive. I want to give calorie counting a good honest go.

started yesterday and weighed in at 15st 1.5. Daily calories limited to 1506, and I ended yesterday on 1351.

just trying to take it 1/2 stone at a time. Day two let’s go!

Bookaholic73 · 25/03/2025 08:12

Thanks @everycowandagain i managed to do it last night.

Welcome @AllyDevon I hope you’ll find calorie counting better than SW. what I love most about CC is that no food is off limits. Of course, we want the overwhelming majority of our food to be healthy and nutritious. But we can also fit in a little bit of chocolate etc on the days we want to.

Bookaholic73 · 25/03/2025 08:18

I have planned, prepped and counted all of todays meals.

Breakfast is Protein baked oats at 498 cals (I’m lifting heavy at the gym today, so need a good breakfast).

Lunch is the same as yesterday, a pitta stuffed with tuna and salad. That’s 347 cals.

Dinner will be chicken stir fry (no noodles for me). Approx 300 cals - I’ll count it when I cook it.

I’ll have a milky coffee and a 100 cal chocolate bar for an evening snack.

Please can I join you?
Started at 11-4 but have managed to lose 2 lbs since starting yesterday. I'm using Nutracheck.
On MFP calories not used get rolled over. I can't seem to figure out whether that happens on Nutracheck. Anyone know? I never used to count green veg but I did yesterday and had barely nothing left to eat!
Best of luck everyone.

Bookaholic73 · 25/03/2025 08:47

@sleslieuk2021 hi, welcome. I’m not sure about rolled over calories, I don’t know MFP had that option!

My first goal is 11st 2lbs which I should reach hopefully this next weigh day.

OP posts:
BG2015 · 25/03/2025 17:51

Another good day for me
B - porridge with honey
L - chicken salad
D - chicken curry
Snacks - fruit, Skinny Whip bar
Ending on 1119 calories. But may have a low cal hot chocolate and some grapes if I feel the need to- but trying to resist.

Bookaholic73 · 25/03/2025 18:15

Oops, I went over my calories by 27 today.

Dinner was supposed to be stir fry, but everyone wanted pizza, so I went with that instead.
Then I had my evening snack of chocolate and a latte, and went 27 calories over my goal of 1700.
It’s ok, I was a few hundred under yesterday, so it’ll all even out.

Im doing a 14hr work shift tomorrow, so I’ll need to take my meal prepped food and stick to it. It’s more difficult at work, as everyone always brings in cakes, chocolates etc.

OP posts:
spackleplumb · 25/03/2025 18:43

Day 2 nearly done everybody Smile
I’m currently on 853 calories so will have a light snack in an hour or so.

b- fruit and crackers
l- crackers, ham, cucumber, mini cocktail veggie sausages
d- veggie burger with no bun, oven chips, tablespoon of beans.
snacks- raisins, one piece of shortbread.
drinks- diet cola, water.

looking forward to getting this last bit of the weight off and finally it’s feeling doable!
begore anyone says- yes I know it’s a super low cal and fairly unexciting diet but given it’s worked for me these past 92lbs I’d say it’s pretty effective for me Star

BG2015 · 25/03/2025 19:00

@spackleplumb At 56 I'm finding that I have to be super strict and barely eat anything in order to lose any weight.

AllyDevon · 25/03/2025 19:01

Day 2 nearly done and I resisted the petrol station on the way home - my absolute downfall!! Will go for the Asda tomorrow which is pay at pump only so I can resist the treats….

b- apple
lunch - bagel thin, one slice ham. Love butter so I’m cutting it out on things I don’t need it on, as I can’t do a thin spread 🙈
Post work snack - two digestives and a pack of mini breadsticks

only two cups of tea today in between meetings , not planned that way!

Leaves me 984 for dinner. Currently at the gym as I’m also trying to improve overall fitness.

feeling good!

spackleplumb · 25/03/2025 19:05

@BG2015I feel similar (late 40s) and I’m 5’1” which I feel makes it hard too. I’m used to the smaller portions and lack of bread etc now at least so it’s becoming second nature.

AllyDevon · 27/03/2025 06:18

Bit of a slip up yesterday morning (petrol station!) but had a good day

lunch - 80g roast chicken, green peppers (forgot the rest of my salad)

dinner - two small salmon fillets with veggies and a bit of sweet chilli sauce

two glasses of wine

weighed in this morning at 2.5lbs lighter so just need to keep it going

hope everyone else is doing well!

BG2015 · 27/03/2025 06:29

I've lost weight too. I'm a daily weigher, which I know they say you shouldn't do. But it definitely keeps me motivated if I'm losing and more determined if I'm not.

belnding · 27/03/2025 13:47

Hi there, I’d like to join this thread please?

I just started calorie counting yesterday after 7-8years. I’d got into avoiding UPFs and time restricted eating, but I’m just getting bigger and bigger, so want to see if I can make a difference with calorie counting.

im currently 72.5kg, trying to get under 70kg as a start, then down to at least 68kg.

I’m using my fitness pal which has recommended daily calories of 1450. I managed 1500 yesterday, which I still feel is really good.
got today’s meals all planned out so I should be right at 1450.

MPF also tracks my stept through my phone. I haven’t tracked my steps since I had a Fitbit years ago. I’m at around 2000-3000 a day - which may also be a reason for my weight gain- plus age- I’m 45.

Bookaholic73 · 27/03/2025 15:47

Hi everyone, welcome to the new people!

I totally are way over my calories yesterday and today, so I’ve made a plan for tomorrows food and workout.

It's almost my time of the month, and my sweet cravings are through the roof. So I need to keep that in check.

OP posts:
belnding · 27/03/2025 16:07

Hi @Bookaholic73(great name!) and thanks for the welcome. Was going to suggest you try a boiled egg to suppress your cravings?? May not work but that’s my back up plan.

I’ve started strong but it can all go awry if anything changes- and we’ve all probably got Mother’s Day on Sunday which may knock plans off course.

Bookaholic73 · 27/03/2025 18:36

Thanks @belnding I’ll try that tomorrow.
Today has been ok. Not my best effort, but tomorrow is a new day.

My meals are all planned and prepped for the next few days, vital as it’s the weekend.

It’s just over 6 weeks til my holiday and I’m desperate to lose another 8-10lbs so shit is getting real now.

The good news it that my gym workouts are going really well, I’m definitely being consistent. I want to add in a little more walking each day, as I barely do any and I have a sedentary job. So I’m thinking I’ll get a 45 min walk in each morning while walking the dogs. My son currently walks the dogs in the morning, so he will be pleased!

How’s everyone getting on with the calorie counting? Don’t forget that if you aren’t doing great, or have fallen off the wagon, tomorrow is a brand new opportunity to start again. X.

I'm doing okay but the weekend is approaching and that's my danger zone. Meals are planned and will have a couple of gins with diet lemonade over the weekend.

I think the secret is to plan, plan, plan and not buy anything in that will be your downfall.
