Starting Calorie counting tomorrow. Anyone want to start with me?

Bookaholic73 · 22/03/2025 21:42

My current weight is 11st 4lbs.

I have a holiday in 7 weeks and would like to lose 2lb a week before my holiday, reaching 10st 4lb.

I already exercise consistently and love it. I do HIIT classes, life weights and have started boxing.
But now I just need to lose the fat.

My calorie deficit is 1700 a day, and I’m aiming for 120g of protein a day (or as close to that as possible).

Anyone else want to start with me tomorrow, or just join in if you’re already calorie counting?

I’ve been doing ok through the week but as previous poster said the weekend is my danger zone. Trying to plan ahead what I’m going to eat over the weekend.

belnding · 28/03/2025 11:09

I’m on a diet of 1450 calories a day, but I seem to be coming in closer to 1600 each day. I’m sure that’s still good though isn’t it? As it’s still under 2000.

I had my running group last night. And I found it impossibly hard. I think it’s because I hadn’t eaten as much as usual. It’s also approaching time of the month which could have played a part.

I tried to enjoy being lighter than usual as I ran, usually I’m lugging a big belly of food around. But I found it really hard - but I still managed it. So a win in general I suppose.

Bookaholic73 · 28/03/2025 13:01

@belnding i would definitely say 1600 is fine. My deficit is 1700 and I’m dropping it down to 1600 as from tomorrow, as it’s only 6 weeks until my holiday and I want the weight loss to speed up a bit now.

So do we all know how we are going to cope with the weekend?
I’ve booked into a fitness class tomorrow at 8am, so alcohol is off the cards for me tonight. Tomorrow night I’ll go for a dog walk after dinner, to get away from the kitchen.

I’m going ti get some Diet Coke too. I know it’s not very good for me, but it’ll stop me drinking wine I think.

So tonight I had a long overdue catch up with some old friends and dinner came in at 1190 cals including 2 x glasses of wine.

in hindsight I could have made a much better choice- but didn’t really know what I was getting when I ordered. A couple of friends had fish veg and rice which I should have gone for.

Bookaholic73 · 29/03/2025 12:54

Good afternoon all.

I had a few glasses of wine last night too. Not going to beat myself up over, it's done now. Just got to move on.
I have been to the gym this morning, did a great workout and got a good sweat on. then came home and had a nice filling (high protein) breakfast. My plan for the rest of today is just to have dinner and thats it.

How is everyone doing this weekend?

I feel I’m getting on quite well with calorie counting.

Although I do need to slim down, my first aim was to understand what I was actually eating, so I could see where I could make cuts.

it seems my breakfast comes in at 400-500 calories
lunch is 600-700 calories
leaving about 300-400 for dinner.

that all feels like a day where I’m eating well and not hungry.

so I guess what would be tipping me over would be having snacks or drinking wine.

im trying to be really honest with the calorie counting and not under-representing what I’m actually eating, so I can understand where the problem is.

as at the moment you’d think I would be losing weight only eating that much per day? Yet somehow I’ve grown to my biggest ever.

I think it must be snacks and extra bits and pieces that are the problem.

BG2015 · 30/03/2025 10:20

I'm doing ok so far. Not been massively hungry. My breakfast is 240, lunch 380, dinner 450 and the rest is snacks. I'm being really honest too.

Usually I'd have 2 biscuits with a coffee mid morning, grate some cheese and cut a big chunk off, have 3 pieces of toast when really 2 would be fine. Just general over eating but this will be the difference in me losing weight.

BG2015 · 31/03/2025 06:10

My weekly weigh in sees a loss of:
3.6lb - so chuffed with that!

Bookaholic73 · 31/03/2025 09:13

Good morning everyone, it’s weigh day today!

Well done @BG2015 on your loss, that’s an amazing amount!

I’ve lost another pound this week, so down to 11st 3lb. Not bad considering I’ve not been super strict this week.
I’m back to being super strict for the next 5 weeks before I go on holiday though!

belnding · 31/03/2025 13:39

I’m down to 72.0kg this morning, it’s so good seeing the scales slowly creeping down.
it would be awesome to have that tip into the 71kg bracket this week.

RareMaker · 01/04/2025 17:33

Hi. I am a month into this. Starting weight 11st 6. Currently weighing 10st 9.

It's been hovering on the same a few days!

Im on 1200 a day as I am only 5ft 1.

Manyoaks · 02/04/2025 17:04

Hi, hope you don't mind me joining.I have been reading your posts to try to spur me into action. Well done to all those that have lost. I have 1 stone to loose to be comfortable. Due to your suggestions I have jouned Nutracheck. At first glance I think I will find it easier than MFP. I know I will have a tough few days trying to stop habits and mindless grazing. I am going to try to start with reduced carbs as that tends to work best for me . Fast heading to 50 and in the midst menopause, this is going to be tough

BG2015 · 02/04/2025 19:41

Found today a bit tough. The evenings are the worst as I enjoy a snack whilst watching TV. I've been eating a few grapes each evening.

Anyone suggest any low calorie snacks things.

Bookaholic73 · 06/04/2025 10:48

Had a really good few days and have lost another 1lb.
Almost under 11st now! That’s the first time in years I’ll be under 11st.
My plan is 10st 10lb for my holiday, so I have another 5lb to lose.
I’m on a roll now, so I feel like I can accomplish it.

I either have a 100 calorie chocolate bar, fruit or just accept that I can’t eat any more as I’ve eaten my calories for the day.

BG2015 · 06/04/2025 11:15

@Bookaholic73 I'm pretty much at accepting that I can't eat now too. I've lost more weight again but will officially track it tomorrow. I'm really in 'the zone' with my tracking.

I think by next week I'll have (hopefully) lost half a stone. BUT......on Saturday 12th we fly to Egypt for a 2 week all inclusive holiday. My plan is to swim most days (currently swim 34 lengths twice a week) and walk. I'm going to try and be sensible with food (I'm a glutton for bread and croissants on holiday) but the alcohol will be the clincher too.

Will definitely be back on it though when I come back. Next holiday is 12 weeks after we get back from Egypt.

Well done everyone for getting through another week.

Bookaholic73 · 06/04/2025 19:51

@BG2015 It’s still 5 weeks til my holiday, but I’m already thinking about how I’ll eat and exercise while I’m there.
I think my hotel has a gym, so that’s exercise taken care of.
As for food, I won’t count calories or track anything, I’ll just make healthy choices 90% of the time, and also allow a few indulgence foods 10% of the time.
I think that’s a good balance for me.

Luckily the people I’m going with are not drinkers, so I don’t think I’ll drink much (if at all) while we are away.

Good morning. Had a terrible day for food yesterday so just getting straight back on track today. I’m at work only until lunch time, so have tracked my breakfast and lunch so far already.
Dinner will probably be a stir fry with chicken or steak I think.

Only 4 1/2 weeks til my holiday so I need to get my ass into gear! I have upped my cardio at the gym and lowered my carbs at dinner time. Hopefully that’ll do the trick.

This is the only way, but exercise is important too. I went from around 16 stone I am 5 ft 6 ins to around 10. 1/2. It took a couple of years and I would dearly like to get down to just tan stone, but the last bit of weight just won’t shif, I still write down everything I eat and tot up the calories. I also swim four times a week. But go for it, it becomes second nature after a while (even though the other day I caught myself looking at a box of soap powder to check for calories!). My diet is for life. If you do slip up and have a non diet day that’s ok, there’s always tomorrow!

BG2015 · 20/04/2025 08:45

How’s everyone doing?
Im half way through my all inclusive holiday in Egypt.

Food wise I’m doing ok. Trying to eat healthily, fruit, omelettes, salad chicken. Had a reaction to some medication I was taking so affected my appetite a bit and made me feel nauseous so stopped taking them.

Alcohol consumption hasn’t been excessive and I’m trying to be sensible.

We’re going for a 2-3km walk every morning before breakfast. I’m too chicken to get in the pool first thing (cold) and then it gets too busy with kids.

I will have put weight on, there’s no doubt about it but I’m back on it once I get home next weekend.

At least there aren’t any Easter eggs here

Bookaholic73 · 20/04/2025 19:15

I’ve hit my goal! But I have a few weeks before my holiday, so want to lose another 3lbs.
I’m increasing my cardio.

@BG2015 that sounds like a great holiday, and you’re making fab choices, well done.

@Bookaholic73thats brilliant.

fragrancefriend · 21/04/2025 14:14

I’d love to join you. I’ve been following this thread with interest. I’m 11 stone & would love to lose a stone for my holiday in 9 weeks. I’m ok food wise I think my down fall is not enough exercise & water. I’m trying get more protein but it’s so hard. I have fat free Greek yoghut with a chopped up kiwi for breakfast & a salad for lunch today. Going to get out for a walk soon when the rain stops. I’ve also drank a litre of water so far.

RareMaker · 21/04/2025 17:34

Im a stone down!

Start weight 11st 6
Now 10st 5

Was down to 10.4 but last 2 days have been 10.5

I honestly feel exactly the same and can't understand how a stone makes zero difference to how I feel or look.

Struggled with all the Easter chocolate too

BG2015 · 22/04/2025 05:47

@RareMakerthats a brilliant weight loss.Dont your clothes feel looser.

My waist bands always feel better once I lose a stone. They often say to measure yourself too and then you’ll notice inches too.

Do you have much more to use?
