1200 calories a day = 28" waist Levi's 501

Hi I am starting today to eat 1200 calories a day. I'm 5'8 and currently weigh 13st. I lost 6st 2 years ago and reached 10st. Unfortunately life/work got in the way and I took my eye of the ball and regained. I did calorie counting before and it worked, so I am trying again.

I'm hoping to fit into my beloved 28 Waist Levi's 501 jeans. I treated myself to a pair, once I'd slimmed down. I want to wear them again.

Thank you BatQueen, that's reassuring - I was worried about googling it as I've had bad health anxiety in the past and I don't want to go down that rabbithole again. Maybe if I keep getting dizzy I'll try talking to the doctor and checking if I'm doing this right.

WitchWindows, yes that's exactly how I feel - I suppose the alternative is lowering calories every week by 50/100 or something, but I don't think I have the self control or patience for that.

Batqueen · 28/05/2020 08:35

Another thing to consider for anyone getting dizzy is to have more regular healthy snacks built in to your diet to stabilise your blood sugar and also stay hydrated as it’s likely to stay pretty hit over the next few days (depending on location).

Option might be handful of nuts, rice cakes every few hours.

My snacks include mini packs of yoghurt rice cakes (120 cals) and small yoghurts with a teaspoon of granola.

sofato5miles · 28/05/2020 08:37

My BMEE is 1200 cals 🤦🏻‍♀️

Batqueen · 28/05/2020 08:52

@sofato5miles mine is 1300 it sucks doesn’t it!

I’ve been doing long walks each day to get the calorie deficit.

sofato5miles · 28/05/2020 09:14

@batqueen it is very cruel of nature 🤣

Oxyiz · 28/05/2020 11:08

I've got a plate of cucumber beside me this morning, with a sliced pickle and some pickle juice dressing. Quite low calorie and tasty thanks to the pickle!

YinMnBlue · 28/05/2020 11:20

WitchWindows - that was so far yesterday - didn't include dinner.
Which was a thoroughly unbalanced smoked mackerel fishcake (home made), a small portion of fries, peas, 'zingy slaw'.
Plus a glass of red wine and a scoop of ice cream. Hopeless!

But the ice cream and red wine are all gone now, so today will be better.

I am taking it v slow and steady, though.

Nicolanomore24 · 28/05/2020 11:27

I weighed in at 9.13 and a bit this morning so that’s me lost a stone. So happy, I’ve not been anywhere near this weight in 18 years.

Keep at it, it’s been a hard two months and the weeks were you lose nothing at all are sole destroying but it does come off eventually.

YinMnBlue · 28/05/2020 19:33

Nicola that’s amazing ! Well done!

Losing a stone is amazing! Well done.

One question for people who know about this stuff - I've had a day with about 900 calories so far (lots of boiled eggs, pickles and cucumber, popcorn - then burgers, tomatoes and sweet potato for dinner) and to be honest I'm feeling full. Should I still eat 300 extra calories?

myfuckingfreezer · 29/05/2020 20:23

@Oxyiz can you outline how much you ate and the calories you've allocated? 900 seems low for that. For example not sure how many is 'lots of' boiled eggs but 4 would be 300 calories, a burger patty 300, a sweet potato 200-400, popcorn 100 calories a small bag etc.

Oxyiz · 29/05/2020 21:22

Yes I'm relying on the fitbit app to log food so I could be hugely miscalculating here, and would appreciate being told how!

  • 3 boiled eggs (72 calories each)
  • a cucumber (45 calories)
  • 2 small homemade burgers (500g beef + three onions + one egg, divided into 8 portions, which I worked out at 133 calories each on an online calculator)
  • a cup or so of sweet potato (170)
  • a big tomato (20?)
  • 1 mini butterkist sweet popcorn bag at 63kg
  • and several cups of tea
myfuckingfreezer · 30/05/2020 09:08

I think your calculations looks right @Oxyiz - assuming it was only 5% or 10% fat mince to get that score.

But certainly doesn't look like a lot or too much food so I know it's a bit late now but yes I would have happily eaten more in your shoes :)

Oxyiz · 30/05/2020 11:08

Oh I'm glad that I'm getting it roughly right, thank you! Yes I'm using 5% beef.

I was worried about eating too little yesterday so had a chocolate bar and blueberries to bring it up a few hundred Grin

Hello! 👋🏻

I haven't checked in for a while since asking to join. As I previously mentioned I was anxious about starting because I was worried about how my body would change. However I bit the bullet and started low calorie dieting at the beginning of this week that's just ending. I decided to have a lower week of calories, ~1000, to kick myself in the bum and get used to it so I could see any higher calories as a treat going forward.

So far I've been doing much better than I even could have expected!! I've been sticking to mostly salads and proteins and trying to avoid complex carbs so I can have more on my plate.

Since starting on Tuesday I have lost 4lbs.

I started using MFP as recommended. It's brilliant.

I'm feeling very excited 😊 and it's great to see other people are getting on so well too!!

Here's to having a much better shape by Christmas 🎄

PersonaNonGarter · 31/05/2020 14:51

I am doing a weigh in tomorrow. I was trying to do everyday but yesterday wasn’t great for me in terms of calories in (I made rhubarb ice cream and meringues and well) so I didn’t want to demotivate myself with a terrible weigh in this morning.

Today has gone fine so far. Too hot to be hungry.

Smarshian · 31/05/2020 17:26

I’m going to join too please! Aiming for 1200-1400 calories per day.
Weighed in this morning at 11st. Want to get down to 9st 7lb. I’m 5’4” and this is a good weight for me.
Hoping to lose 2lbs a week to start with and then will adjust calories if necessary.
I’ve downloaded MFP and have tracked my calories today as 530 so far today. Having lasagne and salad for dinner at around 600 calories and might have a gin later for around 75.

YinMnBlue · 31/05/2020 19:19

I was terrible yesterday: wine, pizza, ice cream.

Was still 109g lighter this morning than the day before.

Do not follow my example though: I was v good at breakfast and lunch, then it all went to pot early evening 😳

Studentnursesos12e · 31/05/2020 19:35

Can I tag along?

I’m doing calorie counting but actually trying to eat healthily this time around. I’m allowing 1100 calories but also exercise calories. I’m 5’3 and SW 13st 4.

Had 1211 cals today and ate some really delicious healthy food.

PersonaNonGarter · 01/06/2020 07:26

Good morning all! I hope you are all having a good day today.

I weighed myself this morning - 4lbs off in the first week Smile. Completely delighted as this is 4lb/20lbs target - so 20% in a week.

I know there is a long way to go but this is great motivation. Thanks for starting the thread, OP!

Oxyiz · 01/06/2020 07:46

I've realised my calculations before didn't include olive oil which I cook everything in - I never realised how many calories were in it even if they're good for you! I've ordered some olive oil spray now and I'm hoping that helps me reduce how much I use.

I've lost 5lb in the first week, but I think over half of that was period weight and the rest probably mostly water weight? There was a sharp dip one morning for no dietary reason whatsoever. So I'm expecting it to be much, much slower from now on, but its encouraging as a start.

EvenPhilip · 01/06/2020 08:12

Weigh in day for me today, but after having had a bad week was pleasantly surprised to see I'd remained at last week's weight.
I was fully expecting a gain.
