1200 calories a day = 28" waist Levi's 501

Hi I am starting today to eat 1200 calories a day. I'm 5'8 and currently weigh 13st. I lost 6st 2 years ago and reached 10st. Unfortunately life/work got in the way and I took my eye of the ball and regained. I did calorie counting before and it worked, so I am trying again.

I'm hoping to fit into my beloved 28 Waist Levi's 501 jeans. I treated myself to a pair, once I'd slimmed down. I want to wear them again.

Can I join in? This is the first diet I've ever had to try - I'm autistic and never used to feel hunger which made staying slim pretty easy! Then I started a medication and gained an appetite for the first time ever and shot up a stone!

I've only lost 2lb in the last week, but I'm hoping if I stick this out I'll fit back in all my old clothes in a few months maybe.

I hate having to think about food all the time though! Is there a point in diets where you stop feeling hungry all the time?

Focusanddetermination · 24/05/2020 21:07

Went way over yesterday was kicking myself. Huge pork steaks for dinner then ate an obscene quantity of jelly belly beans.

However, 900 cals today plus an hours brisk walk.

YinMnBlue · 24/05/2020 21:14

Oxyiz I have been cutting down for about a week and the compulsive need to nip to the fridge and bread bin have stopped, and my appetite had reduced. I am not feeling so hungry so often, and if I do, going for a walk or having a glass of water makes me forget it.

EvenPhilip · 25/05/2020 08:51

Weigh in day for me, have lost 2lbs but I have not been strict the last couple of days.
My rebounder has arrived so I'm incorporating some exercise this week.

Horehound · 25/05/2020 08:55

Oh I should join. I can't fit any of my jeans after my pregnancy and weight gain before getting pregnant too but I have so many clothes I want to wear again.
I started couch 2 5k but I also used to calorie count.
I did 1200-1500cals a day then an hour on my exercise bike which burned 600.

Oxyiz · 25/05/2020 09:31

YinMinBlue thanks - hopefully sometime soon then! I've ordered an indoor exercise bike now too, although it won't arrive for a few weeks as they're sold out everywhere.

YinMnBlue · 25/05/2020 09:34

EvenPhillip Wow! 2lbs is really good. 4 packs of butter gone!

I am not pursuing a strict calorie counted regime, I am doing smaller portions of healthier food and no ‘bad’ snacking. Have also upped my exercise, but hardly to anything impressive, and I have seen a significant difference on the scales.

Keep going everyone, in a sustainable, long term, better habits way. We are doing well.

EvenPhilip · 25/05/2020 10:38

YinMnBlue I must admit I'm doing more in the way of what you are doing, I had a couple of stricter days at the beginning of the week but then lapsed a bit into smaller portions of healthier stuff. Kept off the lattes and Danish pastries but did have wine at the weekend. Af started today so I'm going to have to be realistic about how successful I am likely to be at handling sugary carb cravings.Confused

So I’m down 0.6kg!

Finally. I was getting annoyed at making no progress, (period bloat) but seems to have started to shift a bit now. Hopefully this will continue.

YinMnBlue · 26/05/2020 14:21

Good news Batqueen well done on persisting!

It is still working for me, I am not going to weigh again til Friday - had a bit of a nibbling day yesterday (red wine, ice cream...not good!) but back on track today, and it is the overall picture that counts. One bad day doesn't set you back to where you were before you started.

Hey @lou967 !

I get that all the time - that’s why you need to weigh yourself the same time each day! I usually go for first thing in the morning to get the lowest reading.

YinMnBlue · 27/05/2020 12:26

A mug of tea weighs more inside you than in the mug!

I weigh myself in the morning after I have had a wee and before I have had a drink, for maximum motivation.

Oxyiz · 27/05/2020 12:50

Ah based on the latest comments I've just realised I'm coming off the period bloat time, which is why I've had an apparently incredible weight loss week. Good to know though because otherwise in a few weeks I'd be wondering what on earth I was doing wrong when it went up again.

I've never consciously noticed that before but the scales make it obvious. I sometimes wish there was a way of unsubscribing from having a female body!

Nicolanomore24 · 27/05/2020 12:58

I started at the beginning of lockdown, reasoned I was better getting fit than fat during it😂

I’ve never been hugely overweight, I’m 5ft 11 and was around 11 stone pre diet, size 12 but those size 12’s were getting tighter🙈

Target is 9 stone 6 and a small size 10. I’ve been running/speed walking around 30 miles per week and calories counting. Trying to stay around/below 1200 a day without not allowing myself anything. I love chocolate and have been having a bar or two a week for example.

I would say I’ve been at it properly for 7 weeks now. Currently 10 stone 1 and can fit into size 10 jeans but they’re tighter than I would like.

Well, of course the tea weighs the same wherever it is...my kitchen scales are bust but I have just weighed up a light plastic cup of water against a pack of butter, and guess that a cup of tea weighs half a pound! So, half a pound lighter before you have your tea!

YinMnBlue · 27/05/2020 17:49

What are we all eating?

Today:
V small bowl of Bran Flakes with semi-skimmed milk
Bowl of soup (159 Cals)
Half a slice of wholemeal bread (no butter)
70g Cottage cheese
half a raw carrotSsome 'zingy slaw' (cabbage and carrot with lime juice and ginger and the tiniest amount of olive oil)

Fishfingersandwichplease · 27/05/2020 18:09

Just stumbled across this thread - got some Levi's l have had for about 15 years, used to fit like a glove but now would be lucky to get one leg in🙈 30w 30 leg....have lost 1 stone and 2lbs so far during lockdown, another stone and l reckon l will get them on....might not be able to breathe but will give it a shot!! Well done everyone who has lost- can be a slow old journey but worth it in the end xx

Oxyiz · 27/05/2020 18:13

I've just read a bit of a scary Reddit thread where they say if you're hungry or dizzy at all when dieting then you're damaging yourself and your heart, is that right?

I've been doing between 1100 and 1300 calories in the last week and there have definitely been times I've been hungry, and slightly dizzy one morning before I ate. Hoping I'm not being stupid though?

Nicolanomore24 · 27/05/2020 19:52

Today I’ve had

  • Porridge/strawberries/honey
  • fried egg, half a roll, black pudding
  • half a chicken breast, half a pepper, Mayo
  • Two satsumas

Going to try and not have anything ends although the thought of some toast is making me drool.

Batqueen · 27/05/2020 22:20

Oxyiz I don’t see how you wouldn’t be hungry at least at first when you are substantially reducing your food intake. Dizziness can be one to keep an eye on If it keeps happening but could easily just be low blood sugar if it was before you’d eaten anything. There is a reason this thread is about people cutting down to 1200 rather than going lower as that’s when if you aren’t careful you can put yourself in danger.

Hi all, I have RTFT and would love to join.

I found this thread from the OPs original thread. I had initially thought that keeping too small clothes wasn’t worth it - but I was so impressed with the positivity and have completely changed my mind.

And as it turns out, I can no longer fit into the jeans I was wearing at the start of lockdown. I also ordered a new pair of too-small gorgeous black cords that need to be worn slouchy that I never sent back. They are size 10 - I am definitely not. So they will be my motivation.

I need to lose 18-20lbs and am doing MFP for the calculations. I guess I will lose about 1lb per week hopefully. It is going to be a boring few months in my kitchen Smile
