Tandem feeding support thread

In anticipation of some graduates from the BF and pregnant thread, here's a shiny new thread for tandem feeders to laugh, moan and puzzle over the ins and outs of BF a baby and toddler.

Things are going pretty well for us, we are having a bit of hair-pulling at the moment though. DD2 is 7 mo and loves grabbing hair. DD1 (3 in just over a week!) is not so keen and sometimes wraps her arms around her head.

Another issue is DD1's latch. She's not even close to self-weaning but her latch has been really lazy the last few months. I googled and found this which has been really helpful.

Aside from that, things are brilliant and I'm really glad I'm still BF DD1. It's my one-stop parenting tool for fixing everything Grin

Dita, your own experience would be good to read about too! It's nice to read about both sides of something so that mothers can make plans in case they do find they don't get on with tandem feeding, or think there's something wrong with them if they don't like it.

I did panic a bit the first time I read AITN at all the doom and gloom stories but if tandem feeding hadn't worked for me then I think I would have been really glad to have read them and not just pages about how wonderful it was.

Thanks Eau. I did actually write a few paragraphs last night and was pleasantly surprised at how positive they were, it was quite cathartic!

thnaks dita :)

going ok here, DD is wonderful, she sleeps 4-6 hours between feeds at night, it is such a change from DemonBoy who is up every couple of hours and is utterly exhausted as a result.

DS is very interested in DD nursing, if she comes off the boob, he will tell her how to latch back on - he grabs her head if I am not quick enough to deflect him, and pushes it into the boob, going 'come on baby, open mouth big, eat mummy milk now!' :o very sweet, but she is not impressed! and if she won't latch on again, he quickly spies an opportunity and goes 'I have quickly mummy milk now?'

I have noticed that feeding him is quite painful compared to her, so am really limiting his feeds to a few seconds at a time. It is so worth it though when my family ask if he is still nursing and I am able to say yes and watch the horror on their faces :o but I do want to wean him by the end of the year (when he'll be 3.3 years) as I am getting fed up with nursing him Blush selfish mummy!!
