Racist abuse of Saka, Sancho and Rashford after penalty misses

This is why I don't support England and was dreading them winning as I don't think the fans deserve it. They don't deserve those boys.

The boys are English when they score goals but monkeys and the N word when they don't.

Rashford runs a campaign to feed starving kids and gets nothing but racial and other types of abuse week in week out. Sterling regularly vilified in the press for buying his mum a house and his wife shopping at Primark 🙄. Both rise above it and are nothing but professional in their measured comments. And they have to be or it would just get worse.

The right wing press if this country feeds the jingoism, racism and xenophobia and this place is just a cesspool now.

The lip service paid to the situation: the statements 'condeming' the racism and the pathetic kneeing (which the English fans have charmingly taken to booing). A nation that has to tell it's fans not to racially abuse its team because they lost a football game is not one to be proud of.

This

I can’t get the image of Saka’s face out of my mind.
Couldn’t sleep. So much love for all three of these young boys. And Sterling. He has been treated appallingly.

User5827372728 · 12/07/2021 18:01

I couldn’t even watch the penalties and I knew what would happen if we lost.

cameocat · 12/07/2021 18:08

You are right that some can try to argue not all English people are like that but to me, one English person like that is disgraceful and I am ashamed to be a white British person. I feel sorry for those boys who actually got us into the final. They deserved to win but I agree the fans didn't.

SnickettyLemon · 12/07/2021 18:32

I wonder what the reaction would be if people of colour complained about the useless white goalie letting 3 penalty shots in. This also lost the game.
Obviously I am not saying that Jordan Pickford is useless or using his colour as a derogatory term, I am just trying to make a point.

moofolk · 12/07/2021 18:34

It is absolutely disgusting.

Those boys did really well and the racist idiots who are giving them abuse for being part of the most successful England team in 55 years could hardly have done better than that.

TheOrangeSharked · 12/07/2021 20:57

It truelly Vile.

Whats even worse is the culture in English football is such that these people thought not only would this be an acceptable thing to say, but it would be funny, because let's be honest thats why they are doing it - to get a laugh out of their mates. And all they've got is essentially a slap on the wrist and a 'naughty boys' from Boris. I dont feel anyone whose spoken out has conveyed the true abhorentness of these people. I'm not even sure I have the words.

Racism is a problem in football throughout the world, but it it is particularly evident in English football right now. It makes me very ashamed to be English, which is sad after the achievement of these boys. We should be feeling proud that our team got through to the final, and instead I am feeling deeply ashamed of our fans.

Madwife123 · 12/07/2021 21:10

It’s horrific. Once the 3 black men missed I saw this coming but hoped I was wrong. It saddens me that this still happens. When are we going to take a zero tolerance to racism? Lifetime football stadium bans etc. Make these yobs unwelcome. It’s not enough to give statements saying we disagree there should be action taken. This cannot keep happening!

Broadbeanssleeping · 12/07/2021 21:16

Gut wrenching.
I'm not patriotic but those lads give me hope and represent this country in a way that I could be proud of.
Makes me sick to my stomach.
How could anyone ever dare to question institutional racism or indeed racism of any kind when it's so very blatant.
I'm white and truly sorry for this situation. I will do anything in my power to prevent and bring down racism. I burn with shame.

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/07/2021 21:17

Sorry, didn’t realise this was BMN, just read the title.

Anyway, I’m white, agree with everything you said.

Madwife123 · 12/07/2021 21:22

@HmmmmmmInteresting

“One of my DSs wanted to go out on our road after the match out of nosiness. My other DS said, and I quote: 'Im not going out in the street being brown!'

That is heartbreaking. I’m so so sorry your child has to even consider this for a second. No one should feel unsafe due to their skin colour.

Blindleadingtheblind · 12/07/2021 21:34

It is truly disgusting and I knew as soon as Rashford stepped up to take a penalty what would happen next. I'm utterly heartbroken about the whole thing. The racist scum who dish out the abuse are the same twerps who come out with All Lives Matter 🤬

Saka crying got to me and Marcus Rashfords mural being destroyed has wrenched my heart.

I agree with all said here. Zero tolerance policy. Instant ban whether on the stands or online abuse. Racists can gtfo.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 12/07/2021 21:48

DS is sad today. I asked if it's because of England losing. He said no, it's because of Saka: he saw a picture of him crying and hugging his mum Sad

So sad, and the pictures of the team mates giving each other and him a cuddle
MrsTerryPratchett · 12/07/2021 22:07

Saka is only 19 years old, and at 19 he has done more already than most of his detractors will ever do in their entire lives. As have Sancho at only 21 and Rashford at only 23.

I think it's my age but they all look so young to me and I just want to reassure them everything's going to be alright. But it's not.

I'm just glad Gareth knows how they feel about the penalty and they have each other at least.

99% of my SM has been supportive with one notable exception. Defriending time for me.

tomorrowalready · 12/07/2021 22:56

I don't follow football, I am an old white British woman and I just want to say of course all the players should be proud but these young Black men who have worked so hard to get where they are deserve the respect of all the country. They did what they were asked in front of millions of viewers and kept their dignity. I doubt their critics could have held themselves together for a few minutes.

A Conservative MP tweeted something derogatory about Marcus Rashford's work for free school meals. I would like to have been shocked at such nastiness and shamelesssness but I am not shocked because I grew up in that sort of need and have been most of my life, am over 60 now and I am ashamed that any Black citizens still need to feel insecure in their right to live, work, and contribute according to their abilities.

The comments are racist and meant to harass and intimidate, they know full well what they are doing and it actually makes them feel clever. I won't use words like pathetic because it is worse than that. Elsewhere I have commented on fans going on about x number of years of 'hurt' for their team not winning. That is absurd to me but the hurt the players and families of these footballers must feel is beyond words.

Roussette · 12/07/2021 23:09

@tomorrowalready
Great post, so agree with all of it

SomeKindOfFloppyWeirdo · 12/07/2021 23:24

@HmmmmmmInteresting It’s so much for them to deal with isn’t it Sad

Ds cried last night after the match finished. I thought he was upset about the match and while that was part of it, he said he actually felt sick thinking about the abuse that Sancho, Rashford and Saka would be getting on social media because of the penalties. Fuck those racists for what they’re trying to do to these brilliant young men, and to our kids (and their self esteem) via them. Honestly scum.

Tinpotspectator · 12/07/2021 23:39

@tomorrowalready Same here, in all respects.

The Tories have no idea who we are or what we think. Racists are scum.

nancy75 · 12/07/2021 23:51

While the racist comments were depressingly predictable I think we should feel some small hope in how people have reacted to them.
A few years ago this would have gone by with very little comment, all I have seen all day today is absolute outrage & condemnation of these scumbags.
I’m not talking about Boris, he’s full of shit about everything, but thousands of normal people arguing back & reporting this stuff.
The change is too slow & the steps we’re taking are tiny but it does feel like there has been a shift in what decent people find acceptable & unacceptable and they are making their voices heard.

Nah It's the hope that gets you We've been talking about change for decades

Decades ago the stadium could have been filled with supporters making monkey noises and throwing bananas & not one comment would have been made about it. There certainly would not have been any public outrage or people losing their jobs over it.
While the change is not enough, it is happening.

Defender Mings hitting out at Pritti Vile Patel.

The Government might just regret their stance on this. I'm starting to wonder that, if by losing, this team of young lads might have more of a profound effect on our society than if they had won.

You don’t get to stoke the fire at the beginning of the tournament by labelling our anti-racism message as ‘Gesture Politics’ & then pretend to be disgusted when the very thing we’re campaigning against, happens.

I am disgusted that @England players who have given so much for our country this summer have been subject to vile racist abuse on social media.
It has no place in our country and I back the police to hold those responsible accountable.
