Racist abuse of Saka, Sancho and Rashford after penalty misses

This is why I don't support England and was dreading them winning as I don't think the fans deserve it. They don't deserve those boys.

The boys are English when they score goals but monkeys and the N word when they don't.

Rashford runs a campaign to feed starving kids and gets nothing but racial and other types of abuse week in week out. Sterling regularly vilified in the press for buying his mum a house and his wife shopping at Primark 🙄. Both rise above it and are nothing but professional in their measured comments. And they have to be or it would just get worse.

The right wing press if this country feeds the jingoism, racism and xenophobia and this place is just a cesspool now.

The lip service paid to the situation: the statements 'condeming' the racism and the pathetic kneeing (which the English fans have charmingly taken to booing). A nation that has to tell it's fans not to racially abuse its team because they lost a football game is not one to be proud of.

I agree. Utterly disgraceful. As is booing the other national anthem.

midgemagneto · 12/07/2021 11:21

We didn't watch
You are right , too much is tolerated

Inthesameboat2 · 12/07/2021 11:22

I don't follow football, so have woken up to this news this morning.

I have no words, really, except I'm sorry, and 'people', (using the term very loosely here) who behave like this make me ashamed to be British.

Anyone caught doing this should be banned from football for life as well as prosecuted.

AnyFucker · 12/07/2021 11:23

Shameful, absolutely shameful.

Brain dead idiots. “Nationalism” twisted into something abhorrent.

RedMarauder · 12/07/2021 11:28

UEFA and the social media companies are complicate in it as well.

DeeCeeCherry · 12/07/2021 11:29

Football is akin to a religion in England. Hence the racism surrounding it will likely never be clamped down upon.

It's seen as just part of the game and 'lads having a laugh/letting off steam and anyway this is just what they do' in many quarters.

I looked at Twitter this morning; heartened to see many people of all nations challenging racist Tweets and encouraging others to report racist Tweets immediately. Also, putting up positive Tweets about Rashford etc.

Which is something, at least. We can all do the same.

Racist pigs should never be allowed to have the loudest voices. I hope to see a day when that's made clear.

Completely agree, disgusting behaviour

Cazzovuoi · 12/07/2021 11:32

The media has a hell of a lot to answer for. The language used in reporting contributes to it.

It’s disgusting and they should be ashamed.

RubyGoat · 12/07/2021 11:33

I have no interest in football so I wasn’t aware of what went on last night, except for the match result. It’s shameful that the players are subjected to this. The perpetrators should be found, publicly shamed & prosecuted, & banned from the club IMO. Nothing to do with being “heroes”. Racism is inexcusable, every time.

I have the same opinion of people who give racist abuse to random people on the street, BTW.

Keepitonthedownlow · 12/07/2021 11:34

It's obscene, I'm sor sorry, it's gut punching

HmmmmmmInteresting · 12/07/2021 11:35

Somebody that works for Savilles appears to be about to lose his job for a tweet last night. Hopefully.

You'd hope the Savilles guy loses his job and faces prosecution.

From the second that Rashford missed that penalty, you knew what was going to happen. And I agree that the media and some of the government are complicit in this.

I don’t understand the heroes comment? Has it been suggested somewhere the racist scum are heroes? I had to disengage from Twitter as it made me heartsick

Changemaname1 · 12/07/2021 11:53

It’s absolutely vile , have reported a few Instagram comments on their pages myself and tons of people are trawling through comments and reporting accounts so the guys don’t have to read the comments , not that people expect Instagram will actually take it seriously Angry

I saw a comment along the lines of colour blind when they are winning but as soon as they make a mistake the first thing to attack is their skin colour .

Yup that sums it up . Some people are just disgusting and I hope they get into the trouble they deserve

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/07/2021 11:55

I read that as the heroes referring to the footballers, not the racist scum. So it doesn't matter what the Sterling, Rashford, Saka etc have done on or off the pitch, the racism in unacceptable full stop.

Greydrapes · 12/07/2021 12:00

Thanks @RafaIsTheKingOfClay, that makes sense now

Vodkabulary · 12/07/2021 12:02

Absolutely disgusting. Football has long been excuse for so many elements of unacceptable behaviour by its “fans”. Makes me ashamed to be British to see how those brave young men have been subjected to such vile abuse.

They make up an England team we can be proud of unlike past line ups that fans celebrated players like John Terry, a racist, who’s behaviour was down played and excused because he was good at the game.

I will admit that I don’t know as much about Saka and Sancho but I’ve been aware of and supported Rashford for sometime and think he embodies everything that young men should look for in a role mode. My son wants to be a footballer not for the glitz and glam but because he’s seen how rashford has used his platform and wants to be that person.

Purpletomato · 12/07/2021 12:10

So much bad behaviour is accepted from football fans, decades of violence, hooliganism and racism. Exemption from Covid rules too. It mystifies me.

I was pleasantly surprised this morning though to see even the right wing press attacking the racist behaviour. And twitter seem to be making more effort than usual to remove posts so maybe there is a slight turning of the tide and a glimmer of hope.

I feel so sorry for all 3, they are so young and have done a fantastic job, penalties are a nightmare even for older, more experienced players. Most of the country is proud of them. They all have great careers ahead of them still while the racist idiots criticising them will continue to do nothing with their pathetic lives.

None of the racists would have had the guts or composure to take a penalty under that pressure, let alone the skill.

FloodgatesofHell · 12/07/2021 12:10

I read that most of the racist comments came from accounts abroad, not from the uk

HmmmmmmInteresting · 12/07/2021 12:14

My eyes rolled so hard in my head when I woke up to the news that Bozo had 'condemned' the racist abuse. He's part of the reason why racism has ramped up so much over the last few years. The figurehead of the country is a known racist and so racists are now emboldened. Priti Patel encouraged fans to boo players taking the knee against racism. It's dog whistle politics, but the whistle must be broken because it's audible to us all.

Its actually a good thing because people like the Savilles guy wouldn't have been exposed if he didn't feel emboldened to.

How did they count 'most of the comments'?

It's certainly not true. People are saying that to take the heat off because England is looking like a cess pool

It’s shameful and makes those “fans” a national embarrassment. Absolutely disgusting and these “people” need banning for life.

@HmmmmmmInteresting

Exactly. I'd rather not be lumped in with those pathetic animals.
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/07/2021 12:23

I don't think it was the strongest of condemnations either.
