glad to see i'm not alone in having problems at night - the last two nights we've tried to put James down to sleep at about 10-11pm but he has wanted to feed loads, and just won't settle in his crib until about 3-4am. Endless hours of lying in bed with my hand through the bars of the crib on his tummy, shushing and comforting him, until eventually thr crying starts up again in earnest and I feed him a bit more. Then back to square one. I think we're going to try bringing the bedtime routine forward as far as possible tonight in the hopes that the hours of wakefulness can be from 8pm to midnight - dunno if it will work! Our dinner won't be ready until nearly 8pm, plus he just finished a huge feed at 6.30pm so he may not be ready for a feed and bed until 9.30 or so. We shall see. I might go and have a shower and get into my nightie now so that I can be all ready to take him to bed not long after dinner (we don't have a baby monitor yet so I don't want to leave him alone in bed, as we have to have the bedroom door closed because of the cats.

Right, think i have now caught up after many attemps to get on and post something! Got no clue who said what but its nice to hear we are all experiencing similar things!

Birth story-

Went in for induction at 2pm last sunday and was left waiting til 8pm to have sweep and 1st pessary, was 1cm dilated. Slept all night and it didn't seem to do anything other than cause bleeding and lots of mucus. Examined on monday 8am and was still 1cm, 2nd pessary inserted. Within 2 hours i was having regular contractions 3 mins appart and was pacing up and down the ward focusing on breathing. By 11am had to ask for pain relief as was starting to panic, got told to have a hot bath as this might not to labour and could just be prostin pains- panicked even more wondering if this isn't even labour how the hell would i cope with worse!
Had bath which didn't help at all, then got 2 cocodamol which did bugger all! By 2pm the dr was supposed to come and examine me and decide whether needed 3rd pessary or to start on drip. Dr never appeared until 3pm at which point i was having back to back contractions and was trying desperately not to panic and freak out! Dr was just about to come to me when she was paged to an emergency - spoke to midwife and was desperate for pain relief who advised me to hold off as she had paged another dr who would be there soon. Waited for another 20 mins then freaked out at midwife who decided i was suitable distressed and did examination herself! Was 6-7cm by this point and was carted straight down to delivery suite. was so distressed by this point and was so relieved to get some gas and air and be able to think straight for a while and calm myself down! Had few interesting hallucinations on the gas and air and enjoyed the experience for a while
Decided since contractions were so strong and fast that i needed more than gas and air- didn't want morphine as it would affect baby so went for epidural. Was traumatic having it put in, have 5 seperate needle marks down my back where they attempted it! However pain relief was within 15 mins and a total godsend! Got to 9cms very quickly after that and before i knew in it was 9pm and time to start pushing. However baby's heart rate began to drop further with every push so before i knew it Dr was in and they decided he needed out asap and did a ventouse delivery- had episiotomy (sp?) and a tear but little Sam came into the world so healthy and perfect at 9.55pm he cried straight way and was lovely to have him put straight on my chest! DH and i gazed at him and gave him cuddles and cried happy tears for over 10mins before miswife asked if we would like to know if we had a girl or boy! It really hadn't mattered we were just so besotted with our baby!
Lost a lot of blood and dr spent about an hour stitching and trying to stop bleeding which eventually worked! Was given bedbath and spent some time breast feeding and having my toast and tea (which i demolished!) then transfered to ward and DH had to go home at 2am! Sam and I both slept all night and woke up the next morning like everything had been a dream! then realised i had the most perfect little bundle sleeping in cot next to me
Been so loved up, its the most powerful emotion i have ever experienced that words don't even begin to explain how it feels! I'm sure you all agree?

Sam been a great baby, feeding and sleeping well- my problems are with me- wound is infected and stitches come away slightly so wound gaping and raw! so very painful boiler just packed in too so can't even have a bath tonight. Will need to make do with showers until i call british gas tomorrow.

Can't remember who mentioned the vibrating chair- we got one for Sam and it is wonderful for his wind! always does a huge burp when we lift him out of it!!! He has been so much more alert over the last few days- its wonderful to interact with him. Been sitting reading him stories and singing nursery rhymes with him- he pulls the funniest faces as if to say- mummy your nuts!!!

Rush of visitors seems to have calmed down slightly so might get some time on here now!
Sounds like some really valuable chat and support for everyone

kkfairybrains · 28/07/2010 21:00

thanks for new thread stac!
becky u poor thing with the open wound! oh god that sounds painful. stil you seem really blissed out!lovely to see!
munchkin lol at your ride! its amazing the lengths we'l go to! im not breast feeding so no worries on the thrush tranferring!
my poor little lady is so uncomfortable with the thrush. feel so sorry for her.she keeps sticking her tongue out a little and you can see the discomfort in her face. got drops for it today so hopefully it'll kick in soon. she's stil being so good though god love her

stac14 · 28/07/2010 23:41

becky you poor love with your tearing, that was me with ds, not nice. Lovely your enjoying sam. How did you find the royal? Who was your mw in ward 68? The toast and tea is fab isnt it.

kk ds had thrush, it cleared quite quickly. He had daktaron gel, worked fab. Smashing weight gain in ellie may

tsc i have those thoughts bout rileigh, glad you mentioned it as i thought i was going mad. Without sounding bad its nice to hear someones the same.

wonder you poor luv, is the mw helping with the piles? Have you spoke to someone bout how your feeling? Its hard but you need to do it for you.

memphis glad you spelt things out to dh hun, does he know were your coming from? You know we're here to talk anyway

dh rileigh does the same as dylan, can sleep all day in moses basket and at night wants to sleep with me. I've given her a dummy and it does stretch out feeds. Anythings worth a try

I have had a bit of a run in with my aunt tonight. We went for lunch today, then shops, docs and an hour at hers. So tomorrow i'm looking forward to a quiet day with the kids. Anyway my best friend was trying to get me on the phone but i was busy. She called my aunt who then phoned me accusing me of isolating myself and that i needed to spend time with my friend so i would feel normal. I was raging, as i told her i am normal but i am trying to get used to having a newborn baby. Felt so patronised. Sorry totally self indulgent post lol x

memphis83 · 29/07/2010 07:47

stac hope you have managed to calm down after run in with aunt, dh expects me to go out everyday to see people had to explain that i want time alone with LO and not to be constantly out and about, enjoy your day with dc's today.
on subject of talking to dh, when he went out 2 nights ago and promised he would only be an hour i rang him in a meltdown begging him to come home as i couldnt cope and he said he was on his was 3 hours later he rolled in hammered found out they went into town for more drinks after he said he was on his way back he said last night he thought i was being a tad dramatic! tried to make it up to me by booking me in for a facial, but i have hv at same time and for me its too little too late!
becky lovely to read when you said you were so in awe of LO that you didnt even ask the sex!! I agree about total rush of love, and the interacting, i was lying next to his play mat yesterday and he reached out and grabbed my finger soooo cute

beckyg123 · 29/07/2010 08:42

stac sorry to hear about your aunt- she is probably on tenderhooks after your pnd experience last time and trying to be supportive but getting wrong! Maybe your friend could have given you a chance to call back before worrying your aunt? Hope its all worked out now tho. I didn't get into ward 68 as it was packed so was sent to 73 for induction which is postnatal ward which is why i wasn't offered gas and air til in delivery room as they didn't have any labour stuff! Was in ward 70 after birth tho- midwife was fantastic! where were you afterwards?

memphis i really feel for you with your DH- i personally don't think you are being dramatic! he has behaved like a complete ass and needs to admit it- my dh has pulled some similar stunts in the past- if he even dared now we have LO i think it would be the end! or maybe thats my powerful hormones being dramatic! Some men just loose all track of themselves and responsibility when they are drinking. Wonder how he would feel if it was the other way round? Hope you get some good support from health visitor.
Aw... now i want Sam to grab my finger! lol!

KK really hope your baby girls thrush clears up quickly- god, i know the itch well from down below, never mind in a baby's mouth- wee lamb

Sam and DH still sleeping- i've been awake since 7 as my bum too sore to sleep had a shower which soothed it again.
Been on wii fit this morning and was last on it the day before induction- lost 1 stone 12lb in 12 days!!! only 2 stone gain for pregnancy so not as bad as i thought it would be! Not dieting yet but after 6 week check will get back into exercise and weight watchers i think! have almost another 2 stone on top of that to loose from pre pregnancy... really looking forward to the challenge- is that wierd?

tsc oh my god your nipples are sore?!?!? im surprised you have any nipples left after that gigantic feed! you need to rest up today , not surprised he had food coming out of his nose, lyndon only has to have half an oz too much and hes sick and it flies out of his nose it has to expel his body so quick!
becky he was a complete ass and ive told him if he acts like that again i will walk, he picked up baby drunk and wanted to take him downstairs!!! that was enough alone to make me flip! his uncle asked if he wanted to go out again last night and he replied he wont be allowed out for a few years! just looked on facebook and his friend is back for 2 weeks(he lives abroad 2) if he thinks he will be going out with him he can think again! he did say i wouldnt mind if you went and got drunk, tried explaining baby is 2 weeks old!!!
im nearly back to normal 2 with weight got few pounds to go and 3 inches off waist, my post pregnancy fitness dvd should arrive later! but wont be doing it yet still feel like ive been kicked in fanjo!! but im with you wth looking forward to challenge

DesperateHousewife21 · 29/07/2010 10:05

tsc that is painful! Cant believe he fed for that long, poor you
My DP still smokes, wish he didnt..

Ive actually posted on the other thread as its at the top of my watched list, lol whoops.
Ill write it here again though, Dylan slept last night from 7:30-10:30 when I fed him, he then slept til about 1:30 but from then on was up about every hour and half ish. Then at 6 was wide awake and wouldnt sleep again til 7:30 when I finally managed to get about half an hour sleep then DP woke me up to say bye as he was going to work, thanks!

So all in all last night was a dream compared to the night before, I never want a repeat of that!

kkfairybrains · 29/07/2010 12:32

glad you had a better night dh
becky and memphis i cant wait to get back into shape either. half contemlating going for a power walk today! or might just do my wii active.will see later after ellie's next feed.
stac i wish they had given me a gel to give her.they gave me drops that are quite runny and they say to leave it on the tongue for as long as possible but she just spits it out so there's orange sticky stuff everywhere now! even on her new bouncer!
has anybody got any suggestions on making her take the stuff better. i put iun my finger the last time so she could suck on it but most of the stuff stil spilled out.
stac try not and let yourself get worked up over your aunt. some people have really peed me off too since i've had the baby but it seems so much worse when we'r hormonal and tired. i told my friend one day that i was a bit teary the night before and next thing i have my mother ringing in a panic saying 'are you ok. do you want me to come up' and i was majorly pissed off with my friend for telling her. just annoyed me that they were talking about me and thinking i was having a breakdown or something when in fact i was just tired!
memphis id be like a fucking bull if dp done that.not the fact that he stayed out but the fact that he told you he was on his way home. its the time that we need they're support the most.we'r after giving up nearly a year of our lives to be pregnant and give them this baby its not too much to ask them to give up their social life for a measly few weeks. twice this week dp has been gone for over 2 hours in the evening and i flipped the second night. he's at work all day which is fair enough but then to piss off in the evenings too i was really mad and said to him 'when do i get a break'? he's being so good in general and i know they cant be perfect all the time but just think outside the box sometimes!
i never strted this post expecting to have a rant but there ya have it! actually felt good typing them things and getting them off my chest.!

kkfairybrains · 29/07/2010 12:33

oh yes was meant to ask- when can we stop using cotton wool and water and start using wipes?

memphis83 · 29/07/2010 12:41

kk will use that line later when do i get a break!!! i have started using wipes ive bought the huggies pure ones as they dont have much stuff added to them says on pack as gentle as cotton wool and water

wonderstuff · 29/07/2010 14:03

Hi all - my big news for the day - I have had a poo! I feel like a new woman. Dylan slept beautifully last night - I let him go 5 hours between feeds then had to wake him.

kkfairybrains · 29/07/2010 14:23

yay for wonders poo! and sleep!
yeah i have huggies and johnstons so might start using the huggies pure memphis.

stac14 · 29/07/2010 14:50

thanks ladies i know my aunt means well and is worried due to pnd, but i was more annoyed at how pushy she was being. I just spoke to the hv about it and she said its normal that people worry but i do need a break from visitors so i am going to make a point of doing that.

becky i was in ward 73 after rileigh was born, the mw at night was kim and during the day it was kathy they were great

memphis i would have been raging with dp too as i was repeatedly during pregnancy. He has gave me the line that i can get drunk too. They think its tit for tat and really dont think.

kk i found the gel easier as i put it on his dummy so it had a chance to coat his tongue, could you ask the doc for the gel as shes spitting the drops out? Or buy them from the chemist?

Rileigh is 10lb 8oz now and the nurse thinks she may have reflux which is very common and the cause of her being sick at least once per day. Nice to know its not down to us and that with infant gaviscon she'll be fine. So we have the docs tomorrow. X

NorkyButNice · 29/07/2010 18:39

Evening all - sorry for not posting for a while but I've been struggling a bit since DH went back to work. Emotions all over the place, problems with feeding, and a none sleeping young man to contend with!

Can i ask those with older children how the new arrival has affected things? Especially your relationship with DC1? I'm getting really short tempered and annoyed with DS1 and hating myself because of it - he's only 2 and isn't being any different than before Nathaniel arrived, but I'm finding it so hard to cope with the 2 of them.

Don't want to bring the mood down on the thread so will just stick my head round the door every now and then!
