Sorry to hear about your dog memphis.

I give up on this baby ever arriving - I am never saying "This must be it" again as it just makes things stop!

Last night I was having painful contractions every 4 minutes so was preparing to call the labour ward after I'd eaten my dinner, only for things to start tailing off again.

I went for a bath (have now decided that this is stopping things progressing so no more baths for me!), and then went to bed - was woken up a few times with painful cramps but nothing progressed.

Feel like I'm on the edge of another emotional breakdown if this baby doesn't turn up soon!

Chulita · 09/07/2010 12:13

norky every 4 minutes!! How freakingly frustrating for you Argh!

kittykat I'm thinking the same. Just ignoring the constant BH and I've had the odd definite contraction but I'm just resigned to waiting til the very end of 42 weeks.

So sorry about your dog memphis hope you have someone around who can give you hugs as and when you need them.

For all those of you who are fed up with BH/contractions I'm in full sympathy. I'm just so tired of them. A friend who's due on Sunday hasn't had a single one and I'm soooo jealous!

Is it true that once labour has started you can't stop it? Or would baths actually have an effect? Just wondering...

OP posts:
NorkyButNice · 09/07/2010 12:21

I believe that if it's "real labour" then a bath won't stop it. But the BH's and early labour softens and effaces the cervix, and I have a feeling that taking a bath may delay that. Similarly I think lying down stops things for me.

Chulita · 09/07/2010 12:24

I'd agree with you on the lying down. The only time I'm not having BH is when I'm lying down - a friend said she had off and on contractions for 4 weeks before her LO came out eek!
Reckon maybe you're right, avoiding baths might loosen things up quicker...

kkfairybrains · 09/07/2010 12:33

but then they say that baths bring on labour too?! my midwife said to me the other day to have loads of baths.i dunno it'l just start when it wants and nothing gonna speed it up or stop it i dont think. my friend that was here said im exactly like she was the day she went in to labour. the little pains and stuff. but i was like this all day sunday too and nothing happened so i give up. just so frustrating that they last all night too
memphis so sorry to hear about your dog. makes everything very bittersweet for you xx
norks you really must be getting so annoyed at this stage. hopefully all this practice means you have a very short real labour x

NorkyButNice · 09/07/2010 12:33

I didn't have any BHs with DS - woke up one morning, waters broke and that was it! Much preferred that to this drawn out affair.

Chulita · 09/07/2010 12:42

What does it feel like when your waters break? They did mine by mistake with DD, I keep hoping I'll go to the loo and they'll just burst unlikely though...
With DD I had 2 days of slight BH, then started latent labour so this is already far more drawn out/uncomfortable than that! (Mind you, latent labour lasted 6 days and was horrendous...hopefully all these BH will cancel out any of that nonsense!)

How're you doing memphis?

Afternoon all. Sympathies to everyone still pregnant that wishes not to be! Hopefully things will kick off soon and there'll be more birth announcements in here shortly.

The bath/water pool didn't slow down my labour in the slightest. I think I got an extra minute before my next contraction the moment I got in the pool, but they sped straight back up again after that.

I think my waters broke moments before Mindy was born, but I was in the water and a bit distracted so I can't really say! I know they were still intact when the MW examined me at 6cm, then they didn't burst while I was on dry land trying to use the bathroom.

Everything is still going fine here. Mindy is so good and well behaved thus far! Long may it continue. Having a few feeding issues, she didn't want much for the first 24 hours, then shifted into high gear and wanted feeding constantly - culminating in a 4 hour marathon feeding session last night where she was still screaming in hunger and rooting at the end.

I was then a bad Mummy and gave her a little bit of emergency formula I'd got in. Did the trick though and we all got a few hours of sleep, then it's back to near constant feeding today. I'm really hoping my milk comes in soon! Mindy is a star at latching, which makes things much easier.

Managed to pop out to Mothercare earlier for a few essentials, and had a Tesco shop delivered an hour or two ago, so we're pretty well set up here for now! The florist at the top of the road keeps delivering us beautiful bunches of flowers that family, friends and works are sending over. My house smells lovely.

Anyway, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for more birth announcements soon! Hopefully of lovely easy births.

grumpypumpkin · 09/07/2010 14:40

Spirael Sounds wonderful! What a well organised mummy you are!
Really sad for Memphis, if you are anything like me it will mean losing one of the family just at a time when you should be celebrating. So sorry, but sounds like you are trying to do the right thing for your dog and that is all you can do. Thinking of you

kkfairybrains · 09/07/2010 15:44

spireal yours sounds like such a happy content household!
stil nothing changed here.still getting the braxton hicks.really cant wait for this to be over

memphis83 · 09/07/2010 15:57

grumpy your right he is one of the family, they said back in feb he wouldnt last the week and he made a huge improvement and then sunday dropped back down again, weve just bought him home, his kidneys have gone into total failiure they have given him a pain killer so he gets a comfy night at home with us, then tomorrow we have to go back, vets have been amazing, they are so understanding. he is still wagging his tail he is so brave just wish he got to meet his baby brother! so glad dh had day off today wouldnt have coped without him.
spireal you are very organised! food shop and mothercare!
all these wonderful birth stories and people coping so well i have a feeling it will be me who breaks the mould and ends up screaming for every drug going!!

Jojobil · 09/07/2010 19:48

Memp that is really sad news Lots of hugs your way...

Frank is 10 days old and is just a delight. BF really well and is a really chilled out baby. Only cries when he needs to be "fed". "burped" and stops immediately when attended too. And he sleeps a lot! Knock knock on wood it is a sign of a good, mellow character!

I hope you are all well and waiting to hear more amazing birth stories!

GlastonburyGoddess · 09/07/2010 20:51

wonder-Thats so weird, I was sick too this morning! cue bloated cheeks and ds1 shouting at ds2 "get out the way, mums gonna be sick!!"

NorkyButNice-How disheartening! although remember every bit helps soften and dilate your cervix, so fingers crossed it wont be long for you.

memphis-sorry to hear about your dog xx

got my car cleaned today, looks lovely compared to how it looked before with crips and biscuit crumbs everywhere, just got to try and keep it clean at least till baby here!

picked up carpet cleaner today, did the car carpets/mats and dp set for all over house clean tommorrow! cant wait, love the end result and they havent been done in about 2 years so should really see the difference!

Hope everyone gets a cool, peaceful night tonight x

Delta4 · 09/07/2010 21:12

Hi all,

Have nothing much to report...just wanted to say how chilled out all the new mums seem and have got my fingers crossed for all those still waiting....

beckyg123 · 09/07/2010 21:54

evening girls,

Was hoping to log on and hear some more news but looks like our rush is out of the way for now!

I have spent a lot of the day in hospital following MW app this morning. BP was high, pulse racing and protein in urine. Got well monitored and BP came down a little and protein now just a trace, bloods all normal but they want me back in on monday morning for more tests. Got a little freaked out by it all but calmed down now. I'm due on Sunday so when i go in on Mon they will give me a date to be induced.

Other than that i've enjoyed a lovely few days with my mum it has been ages since we had some time like that and i'm actually really missing her already- only dropped her off for the train a few hours ago!

memphis i am so very sorry about your dog being ill- it must be heart breaking! Ours is baby No1 too and i can't imagine how you feel right now

Loving listening to how all the new mums are getting on- its fantastic inspiration and really looking forward to joining you soon

Emster30 · 09/07/2010 22:31

Evening all - sorry to hear about your dog Memphis, how awful.

I escaped London fpr the day today down to my grandparents near the seaside, which was nice, though the tube home from Victoria was a bit of a killer!

I have been getting really uncomfortatble twinges all day, right down in my pelvis. They hurt! Wish they would either turn into something proper or stop. It is nice to get home to my swiss ball tonight which is rather more comfortable than anything else to sit on.

kkfairybrains · 10/07/2010 00:53

im so fed up .these BH stil haven't stopped.was in bed there and had to get up cos i was just gettin so annoyed with them because with them is coming the shooting and pressure pain down my fanjo. im just completely worn out with them and so disheartened because i've had them for over 24 hours, about every 5 or 6 mins or less, they're so intense but not painful as such and they're just coming to nothing.
and im starting to thimk horrible thoughts like i wish i could turn back the clock, or i wish i could just have the baby and run away somewhere by myself. i feel horrible for even thinking things like that and i think its because im so irritated between these BH and everyone on the phone constantly especially my mum and now she's coming up tomorrow and i dont want her to because im just so irritated and i dont want to say anything cos i know i sound like a horrible bitch. whats wrong with me? i feel pathtic because im not even excited today

memphis83 · 10/07/2010 04:59

agreeing with the other ladies still waiting for their LO's all the new mums sound so relaxed and loving being new mummies! cant wait to hopefully be feeling the same!
slept for 2 hours last night been up since 2 with dog making him comfortable, very hard as ive been getting low down pains think its stress of past day or 2, but been lying down willing it to slow down, just so i can be their in my dogs final hours, sure by lunch it will al stop again! going to keep busy all day, dh is going to take me to local park i havent been to since i was about 6 there is a rowing lake so that may bring baby out!
kk we all have days like you have had, we are so close to the end now and you will soon have LO in your arms, know what you mean about fanjo pain!!! with your mum and dp with you today could you turn your phone off?
becky glad it all calmed down for you today
glaston i hate cleaning the car, i always have a carpet of wrappers, its clean at the mo, once LO is a toddler at least i can blame crumbs and wrappers on him!!

Wonderstuff · 10/07/2010 09:46

kk I have been feeling I want to run away - pretty much all pregnancy - I think the hormones just make it all really hard to deal with, and pregnancy is so long - I can't remember what it feels like to not be me.

memphis so sorry about your dog - hope you manage to have a nice time today.

I was on the toilet all morning yesterday and was sure that something was starting, but I think it was probably just the iron supplements messing up my system - had BH all day, but came to nothing, trying hard to be positive, it will happen in the next few days, I absoulutly won't be pregnant forever. DD is getting excited, met up with a friend with a new baby yesterday, and she was fascinated, which was sweet - this poor woman was trying to feed though with dd stroking the babies head and trying to play round and round the garden with him. She has decided our baby won't cry She didn't really, but something tells me this one isn't going to be attended to quite as promptly as she was.

spireal you sound so chilled and organised. Sounds like feeding is going really well - my dd used to feed constantly - hv would ask how many feeds a day does she have, and I could never answer!

memphis83 · 10/07/2010 10:43

fireise congratulations on your little girl! another lovely name!!
