Looking for some fellow late Januaryers to whisper about BFPs for late Jan 2011!! Just taken the test this afternoon and thrilled to be pg with #3 potentially (two DDs who are 19m and 3y). Anyone else out there?

Congratulations to jjkm too. Naming twins will be really fun.

ZippyPippy · 17/09/2010 12:32

Horrah!! Congrats on the boy flora, the girl scuba and girls jjkm, very exciting!!

Runningkatie i was told a similar thing about annual leave and am also taking a year off so pointed out it's impossible to take the annual leave in the year accrued if you are taking Jan - Jan off. So I'm finishing xmas eve and they are letting me carry it over to take it all at the end so I get another 4 weeks on top of my maternity leave basically. Can they let you do the same?

RunningKatie · 17/09/2010 12:55

Zippy - I think that's what I'm trying to do. Have you remembered to include bank holidays in there too? According to this website: www.nct.org.uk/info-centre/information/view-87?dm_i=C2B,8TEZ,2QWK0Z,MZRK,1 you are entitled to 28 days off even if that's not your a/l entitlement.

Someone did tell me, but I'm still trying to figure out if this is true, that if you decide to go back part-time, then your accrued holiday shrinks to the part-time allowance Hmm

I'm becoming a complete geek about this, but having had them sack someone this week and all their work get dumped on me, I'm not feeling the love for my employers this week.

Flora - what first class upgrade?!

When are we officially classed as 5 months? I'm 22 weeks on Sunday, am I there yet?

Have sent DP to Mamas and Papas sale to get me a top. I wonder if he'll succeed Grin

FloraPost · 17/09/2010 16:19

If you have a season ticket for the train, you can get it upgraded to 1st class for free if you take your MATB1 to the station where it was issued. It isn't very well publicised, but all the train companies do it (except Southern, I think). I had to e-mail Southeastern to get confirmation that they do in fact do it because the 'how do we help pregnant women' section of their website was blank!

Wow. I had to tell baby off last night it was kicking so much it was stopping me sleeping!

Been having mini rows with mum and MIL over my MIL coming down when baby is born - driving me nuts. She's sooooo selfish - and my mum is trying her best, but doing my head in! Wish at moment i was able to have baby at home.

And... got blood test back and need to top up my rubella so ned a MMR about 2 days afetr birth. Ugh.

Also, thought me and DH had agreed on name, now he reckons he doesn't like it - but i've really really fallen in love with it (even call baby it when it's just me alone) :(

Apart from that ok! Think i'm just missing home, DH and cats a bit....

jjkm - Lovely about the girls - we call think of matching names such as Molly and Holly or April and May for you! And sorry can't help with the schools question. but if it helps, from what i've seen (as trainee teacher) better to seperate twins as become more independent.

And i love the thought of all of you having so much time to spend with your new babies. It's super!

bubba what did you mean about sleeping whenever?

OH... and shopping wise... got a teddy bear today. When I was little I had a bear called Biggy - so i wanted to find a "biggy" bear - and i got one today! BRAND NEW in Cancer research shop... for £3.50 (it still had all the original tags on it) - and looked it up online and it's £30! So that cheered me up a little.... :)

CupcakesHay · 18/09/2010 10:19

Meant to say - give me half an hour and i'll do an updated list.....

BubbaAndBump · 18/09/2010 10:51

Thanks Cupcakes that would be great! My comment about sleeping earlier was because I'm knackered and as in-laws are here, they can help occupy the little ones so I can catch up on some sleep! :o

Is your MIL proposing she stays with you when babycupcakes is born? Nooooooo!! Just say, sweetly, "we'll see how things are going once baby's here and take it from there. Can't possibly commit to that yet, as I'm sure you understand!"

Congrats on news jjkm - hard work but fun! My feelings re: schools are very much left-wing and I don't believe private system should exist (saying that, don't believe our current state sector is sufficient, but therein lies the vicious circle that is our ever-divisive society). A gifted child can cope anywhere IMHO, as long as it is encouraged both at school and home, and wants to pursue its gift. I could go on and on, but I imagine mums and bumps are falling asleep as I type! :o

Congrats on Florette! Also interesting fact about train upgrade - didn't know that. I drive to work but will def. be passing that on to pregnant friends (if I could only find some! :o)

How did DH get on with top-buying Running? Don't think I'd ever trust mine to that, and I'm not precious about clothes, his taste is just teenage slob still (and turning 36 next week Hmm!

Bubba and other already-mums.... will I get used to the kicks? I mean - don't get me wrong, i do love the kicking thing - but tonight, he's just spent literally the last hour practising for being a Chelsea footballer.... I sewar - if you could see inside, i'd be bruised!

Thanks for the updated list cupcakes! We're getting there!! I thought that 5 months was 23 weeks (4.5 weeks in a month?). I still say I'm 5 months anyway, but my belly is sticking out enough for 6!

jjkm my views on schools are left of centre too. I think there are many state schools (esp primary) that are miles better than some fee-paying schools. The trick is to find one that's on the 'up', i.e. not resting on its laurels. I don't know a foolproof way of finding one of these, just luck and a lot of research I guess. You need an inspiring head and motivated staff to make a great school. In the area where I live (London) I think many parents are now choosing to send their kids to state school and 'topping them up' with a private tutor for certain subjects.

bubba good luck with the outlaws!

flora were you reading reviews about the Bee (2009) or the new Bee Plus? I had thought that the new version had ironed out some of the probs of the original....at a hefty price though Confused

Must go to bed.....

Shanster · 19/09/2010 19:34

Hey ladies, haven't been on here in ages, thought I would check in and see how everyone is doing. Had my 20 week scan on Friday and found out I am having a wee boy this time. Bought my first outfit for him yesterday.

Bubba I feel your pain. My parents are coming for 3 weeks, arriving a week before baby's due date. I think it is great having them around, it was lovely for me to have help when DD was born but DH is not so keen. Parents in law will be coming for 5 days as soon as my parents leave, but they are not the helpful kind (more the kind who want to hold the baby while I run around cooking dinner and doing the hoovering).

Madinitials · 19/09/2010 20:31

Hey all, had my scan on Friday too and we're having a boy!! Was really freaked out because I was so sure it was a girl (thought DD1 was a boy but didn't find out til she was born) and I cried - with joy obviously!!

I do feel for you ladies having the out-laws telling you when they are coming to stay and for how long. Mine live just down the road and they were at our house for 5 days out the first 7 with DD1, just holding her and not helping - like yours Shanster!! Things will be different this time. Make sure you stand up for yourselves ladies, I didn't last time and ended up really resentful. Hope yours are better than mne!!

Fuzzywood · 19/09/2010 21:44

Definitely insist that any visitors after the bumps arrive help out. I'm very lucky that all grandparents are pretty helpful. But the last thing you should be doing is waiting on visitors.
Bumpy is getting more active by the day which is lovely but always seems to happen most when I want to go to sleep.
Running I don't know whether it's just where I work but the annual leave I accrued last time when I was on maternity was based on the job I was doing before I went on leave. I think it's pretty standard as it's assumed you're taking leave from the job you were doing if that makes sense. Also where I am if you can't take it all in the year you're supposed to then they will pat you for the days you don't take, worth checking out.

Bubba - I'm so proud of DP, he did indeed get the right top in the right size. He had a little help from an assistant but it's lovely and I've worn it all weekend to ensure he feels appreciated. :)

He had his arm over the bump yesterday, and the baby gave him an almighty whack, took us both by surprise. Definitely getting stronger these kicks.

No-one has mentioned coming to stay with us when bump arrives, both sets of parents live 30 mins away so hopefully it'll just be pop ins. Although if my Dad comes down then that'll be a different story as he's 300 miles away, which is quite near enough Wink

Feeling a tad guilty about whinging about work last week, I got called in by my boss on Friday and told to go and spend £200 on myself and put it through for them to pay to say thank you for all that I did last week. So, we went and bought a cot bed and mattress on Friday night. V excited Grin
