Looking for some fellow late Januaryers to whisper about BFPs for late Jan 2011!! Just taken the test this afternoon and thrilled to be pg with #3 potentially (two DDs who are 19m and 3y). Anyone else out there?

zippypippy not all trusts do 16 week appointments, Mine does but its to do the blood tests for downs as we don't have nuchal scans.

I'm feeling a bit crappy really, I still feel sick constantly and I'm knackered. DH is working away and i'm fidinding things quite fficult on my own with the boys.

I am looking forward to our week off together in a week and a half and then my scan the week after, we have decided to find out too!

RunningKatie · 10/08/2010 17:11

Zippy - I had to ring and book the 16 week one, it's with the midwife at my GP's but appears it's just a routine checking of urine etc. I had a nuchal fold test so already had bloods taken for downs at that.

In my maternity notes book there's a list of the appointments we have here in Derbyshire, seems like they are every 4 weeks till we get closer to January - but also more for first time Mums.

Got my 20 week scan booked plus meeting the consultant at that one, I've got to have consultant led care as my Mum had a thrombosis. My sister looked quite surprised when I mentioned this, as she'd never known about it and has had her 3 under just midwife care. Annoyingly OH has to go away that afternoon after the appt, so yet again I'll be at home with a pic of the baby and no-one to bore with it. Think I'll have to arrange to meet some friends or something.

LadyBuzz, I'm still feeling sick too, seems to be dairy that's the main trigger - had to bolt for the loo half way through dinner last night. Then had to convince OH it wasn't down to his cooking! Wink

ZippyPippy · 10/08/2010 18:36

Thanks all, rang the midwife and turns out yes I have to book my own midwife appointments, but scans are done for you. They never mentioned it at my booking appointment and it doesn't really explain anything in the mountain of paperwork they gave me!! At least I now know.

Sorry you are feeling so bad ladybuzz :( keep thinking about that week off.

runningkate shame your hubby is away for the 20 week, can you maybe take another family member or a friend?

FloraPost · 10/08/2010 19:22

I have not been sick today (yet)! The horrible rotten fruit taste seems to be abating too, although that could just be the frequent gargling. Feels like progress anyway. RunningKatie, weird how different things set different people off. Cheese is about the only thing that actually stops me feeling sick. I am expecting a bollocking next week from the midwife re. diet one way or another. I haven't had meat for weeks, still can't bear veggies and have gone right off bread, but have lost another 2lb.

Is anyone else taking pregnancy vitamins? I have been trying because I'm so rubbish at food atm, but I think they might be causing the sickness in part. Seems ironic that they are the size and colour of house bricks given that they are for people who probably have problems getting food down in the first place.

Florapost i stopped taking my multi vitamins and fish oil after week 12 as i read somewhere they made constipation worse? Not sure how accurate that it is but I feel fine without.

Had my 16 week appointment today and had been really excited about hearing the heartbeat so took DH along with me so he could hear too. So disappointed though as they said they don't do that as they are a very busy clinic and the baby is still very small :(

On the plus side i found out i am A positive as I never knew before and I also experienced a wave of relief that I am HIV negative. Weird?

On holiday in Cyprus as of tomorrow but i will be sure to check in but I will leave you all with a little question.

I was given some info about Vitamin K for baby once born. Is anyone or has anyone consented to this for their newborn ? If so, why and if not why not? is it related to childhood leaukaemia?

Shanster · 11/08/2010 02:09

So pissed off, just found out that I'll be charged $400 for my ultrasound a few weeks ago, and for any other ultrasounds I have to have. When I had my DD (same insurance) 2 years ago everything was covered. This time my hospital stay will leave me $1000 out of pocket, and the worst piece is if the birth was in the same calendar year as the ultrasounds it would fall under my deductible. Stupid, crazy, impossible to understand US excuse for a health system. I am very homesick right now, and this seems to just be pushing me over the edge. I never meant to stay for so long, now we are stuck here until the economy improves and we can sell the house etc. Pregnancy hormones must be kicking in, am normally very easy going!!! I'll be home for 2 weeks in October, hopefully that will make me feel better.

salt&vinegar no idea about the vitamin K, can't recall if DD had one or not.

Fuzzywood · 11/08/2010 19:41

Shanster that sounds rubbish. Hope you enjoy your visit, not long now.
We gave vitamin K to DD, to be honest I can't remember much about it as it was straight after she was born. Isn't it something to do with blood clotting or something? I don't think I've seen anything particularly negative about it. Will do some reading up though, another thing to add to my list.
Can't believe how tired I still am, sure I didn't feel this bad with DD, maybe it means this one is a boy hmmmm?

We heard the heart beat yesterday :-) - I couldn't see OH as I was lying down but he says he nearly cried again. Bless.

Flora - I'm taking vitamins, I'm really bothered about whether I'm getting enough calcium. Don't have milk in my tea & coffee anyway, now I can't seem to eat cheese or yoghurts etc. So, am trying soya yoghurts which have calcium in them and taking a Sanatogen Mother to Be supplement which has 21% of the RDA for calcium. I asked the MW about it yesterday and she didn't seem worried by it at all. Makes me wonder if she just didn't know the answer or if I'm fretting without reason.

Have booked onto NCT classes, as also found out that in Derby we only get 2 antenatal classes - and both my friends managed to miss them due to having babies early.

LadyBuzz · 12/08/2010 15:54

I heard the heart beat today - great isn't it Grin

Fuzzywood · 12/08/2010 21:58

I've got a 16 week appointment tomorrow, it's with the GP rather than MW as she's on holiday so don't know if I'll get to hear the heartbeat. I hope so. Starting to feel wriggling around now which is lovely especially as it kind of tickles.
The lady who runs the coffee shop in work asked me if I was pg today and when I said yes, she said she knew I was as I looked beautiful. I'm actually pretty sure I look pale, tired and spotty but bless her, she made my day :)
Hope you're all well.

RunningKatie · 13/08/2010 14:43

Aaaah Fuzzy that's nice - a few people at work have said I'm looking really well when I feel tired and spotty too. Does help a bit!

Heartbeat was good, problem is now it seems ages to the 20week scan....... Can't wait till I'm sure whether the feelings in my stomach are baby or food. :)

Going to do loads of family visiting this weekend and pick up my sisters baby name books, I think we've picked but we want to have a quick read through just in case.

I've given up trying to hide my bump - it's proving impossible unless I wear something fairly voluminous.

Is anyone else waking up during the night? I keep waking with pains in my hip and thigh which is really weird as I usually sleep on my side? Beginning to p** me off.....

And still got months to go!

Hey girls/ladies (wave) (wave) - just back from our 3 weeks in sunny Scotland - so what have I missed? Anyone care to sum three weeks up in a paragraph or two? Seen a few new names, so welcome to all newbies on the lists :)

Read back a couple of pages - sorry for sickness for those of you still suffering - I was Pukey Malukey for a full 16 weeks with both previous pregnancies, so know how you feel. It should pass soon, I'm passing on no sickness cyber vibes...

16 week (but I'm 17 weeks) appt tomorrow morning - GP not mw... Still, looking fwd to it!

FloraPost · 16/08/2010 14:17

Afternoon all. I have been lurking on the thread but not posting as, frankly, my constant refrain of 'I keep being sick, this sucks!' entertains no-one.

We had the 16 week scan today and thankfully the consultant thinks the heart is fine - big relief! Yet again the baby refused to co-operate and they couldn't see the heart at all for the first 20 mins; cue me downing a tin of orange juice and running up and down three flights of stairs twice. That seemed to do the trick and he/she moved. I shall be soooo peeved if the baby does this for the 3rd time at 20 weeks and I don't get to find out the flavour.

First midwife appt tomorrow. I'm going to ask if she can do an open sick note for work. 1-2 days off sick every week is not going unnoticed and is starting to stress me out too.

nicoless · 16/08/2010 17:16

Afternoon ladies!

I have been away in Australia for a couple of weeks so nice to hear about all the positive scan results (but so very sad hearing about those that did not go well). We had our second "12 week" scan the day before my trip and I have a revised due date of 21 Jan. The little one had grown a nasal bone in the space of a week which has moved us out of the high risk ratio for Downs. I still have very low PAP-A levels so will need to be carefully monitored (with extra scans) later in pregnancy to check the little one is growing okay. Big relief and thank you to everyone who posted good wishes after our not-so-positive first scan.

Hope everyone is starting to feel better! We have booked into NCT classes already as apparently spaces go quickly - especially in London. A friend who is due in November recently tried to book but only managed a place on the waiting list...

BubbaAndBump · 16/08/2010 17:33

Hey Flora - post and whinge away - that's what we're here for, and I'm sure you'll find lots of others in the same situation.

Great to hear your good news nicoless especially after your worries from last time - v. jealous of your trip, Oz sounds just a wee bit more exotic than the west coast of Scotland :o - hope it was fantastic?

What's happened to this thread? Nobody's posting! 3 pages is all I missed in 3 weeks Shock :o Roll on the 2nd trimester feelings for us all so that we start to feel better about posting - not long to go until 20 week scans start, and then we'll have reached the halfway mark - YAY! :o

When I say entertains no-one, I include myself in that. I have told DP he should find himself another GF who is better company than I am Grin.

There are upsides though (bitch alert). I was too ill yesterday to spend the day with the outlaws and thus missed out on being dowsed with a crystal by SIL to find out the sex. Not as a bit of fun but because she thinks it works. She has also suggested a list of names, including Tracy for a girl - I can honestly say that wasn't one we'd thought of! After one pg, which was nothing like mine, she has set herself up as my guru as though I don't have friends and family of my own. I know she is trying to be nice but I can't stand her and am on a pretty short fuse at the moment anyway, so best for everyone that DP and his superior diplomacy skills dealt with her alone. I have never been good at nodding and smiling. Must learn - have a feeling I'll need to do it a lot in the next few months.

RunningKatie · 16/08/2010 20:48

evening everyone,

Only 2 days at work this week, have managed to get a whole 3 days off - whoop whoop.

Nicoless, we booked onto NCT last week, going in December. I already know OH can't make one class as he's away with work but he should make the rest.

Flora - so sorry you're still feeling sick. I'm really excited as dairy was making me heave but I've tried halloumi cheese tonight and all is well. :)

Has anyone felt baby move yet? I'm pretty sure I did on Saturday night, it seemed to react after I had a huge mug of tea!

LadyBuzz · 16/08/2010 20:54

flora whinge away I still feel crappy too!
in fact i'm feeling worse! My boobs are so so sore its driving me mad.

I've been busy the last couple of weeks, DH has been working away and its been such hard work with the boys on my own.

still 2 more days of work then off for a week and off to a festival at the end of that week, then my scan the day after that - so excited!!

BubbaAndBump · 16/08/2010 21:08

Oh, and I heard a heartbeat this morning at my appt - glad it's still real then cos apart from tiredness, I don't really have any other symptoms (sorry Flora and LadyB)! Doc said (very nicely though) that I was already huge for my date Blush - uterus is already high up - I like to build 'em big; my only worry is it'll come early and make working late hard. Although maybe it'll make room for some good Christmas lunch food, cos I could hardly fit any food in towards the end with baby massive bugger #2 Shock

I can feel baby flutter away every now and then RunningK but not always - if bladder's quite full (sorry if TMI - I'll only get worse :o) so that fits in with you having just had a big cuppa :)

Is that going to be your 20 week scan LadyB? Can't wait for mine - heartbeat today was fab to hear, but seeing baby AND hearing a heartbeat's even better :) Can't wait (although mine's on my 2nd day back to work) Hmm
