Looking for some fellow late Januaryers to whisper about BFPs for late Jan 2011!! Just taken the test this afternoon and thrilled to be pg with #3 potentially (two DDs who are 19m and 3y). Anyone else out there?

You ladies are great, you say all the right things. I shall now put the silly doctor's comments in the box marked 'ignore' and forget about them. DP is 6'1" but we were both small-to-average sized babies despite both being 2 weeks late. Tbh, the thing that really wound me up was when the doctor started lecturing me about diet (Yes, the NICE thing. And I have put on a grand total of 1 lb while pg) and actually held his hand up to me when I started to explain that I basically live on apples, low fat cottage cheese and bread. Bastard.

The non-bump is due on MIL's birthday so plans are already afoot for joint parties. Not sure that watching a bunch of middle-aged persons getting smashed on smirnoff ice will be the kid's idea of a large day out, but hey . My due date is the same as my friend's a couple of years ago but her DS was late, so even if I go over the non-bump could still end up sharing a birthday.

Soooooo glad it's the weekend tomorrow. We are going for dinner with friends which I'm actually a bit nervous about in case I'm sick at their house. I've been deliberately hiding from people since about 8 weeks due to feeling so horrible, but now the time has come for me to re-join society.

FloraPost · 30/07/2010 07:22

Oh, and welcome Cupcakes and LBM. Nice to see more people joining the thread.

Careylou, seriously, screw those stories about fat birds getting pregnant. I am a bit overweight too, but we both know that you can be that way despite following a healthy diet which I'm sure is much more important for the baby than your pre-pg dress size. I think some (thin) people assume that all overweight people eat out of control, and that a fat bird sitting before them weighs half a stone more than she did last week and half a stone less than she will next week due to unregulated wispa consumption. We know that isn't true and we just have to rise above it because, actually, we can still be fab mums to healthy babies. You are cooking up a little person, please don't be down on your body while it's doing this great thing.

saltnvinigarcrips · 30/07/2010 21:56

I noticed from the stats that most people on this thread already have children but as a first-timer I was wondering when you first started to show with no1s if you can remember. Feel pretty normal these days and looking forward to next appointment when I can get confirmation I am still pregnant. Feel not so pregnant and don't like it On the plus side got my screening results back and everything was good

LittleBugsMum · 30/07/2010 22:32

I couldn't wait to show the first time around, desperate for people to know I was pregnant just by looking.

I think once you hit the 20 week mark, it pretty much grows & grows from there. My bump was so enormous at 6.5 months I was embarrassed. People kept saying I looked ready to pop but I had ages left.

Because - for one reason or another - I didn't lose all of my tummy from ds, I am showing earlier than others. I feel pretty much normal otherwise though - most symptoms have disappeared now (except the tiredness but then I have a 12 month old...)

In my first pregnancy I used to wish I had a see-through tummy so I could check on my baby at all times.

scubamummy · 31/07/2010 12:11

Hello - may I join please?! It's our first and I am due 2nd Feb by LMP dates but 28 Jan from my 12 week scan, they put me forward 6 days cos bean was so big (grins proudly as me and DH are quite little folk) .

However I know when we started trying and when I ovulated so I am sure that I can't be that far along. 6 days is not that much, I know baby will come in their own sweet time, but I think it may make a difference further down the line if they start to pressure me into being induced. Has anyone else experienced this?? Sorry if you have already discussed similar.

Re showing, I thought I was showing more at 6 weeks when I was more bloated than I am now at the start of the 2nd tri but I tried to put on my fave pair of jeans a couple of days ago and they wouldn't even consider doing up. I've put on 3 inches around my hips!!!!! More room for little bean to somersault around in I guess!

LittleBugsMum · 31/07/2010 15:34

Hi scubamummy - congratulations.

Fuzzywood · 31/07/2010 21:55

Hi Scubamummy with regards to dates if I remember rightly they do take the scan dates as being the date. Regardless, you don't have to let them do anything you don't want, so whilst I wouldn't advocate going against medical advice if there is no risk to you or the baby then waiting a few days probably won't matter. Though on the other hand DD was 9 days late, I was booked in for an inducement 2 days later and by that point I probably would have gone for it. No matter how hard I tried to not get hung up on the due date it's so difficult not to. Anyway, the best advice I had last time and this is to just enjoy it, as you say they'll arrive when they're ready.

I've developed a distinct small, fairly solid-feeling bump, but am due end of January, so am only 14 weeks and a bit... does that mean I could be further along than they think, or is it probably bloating/too much carbs? I know we develope at different rates, but how varied is varied?

ZippyPippy · 01/08/2010 15:23

Ryuk I'm 15+3 and definitely showing a small bump - saltnvinegar is my first too, so you'll probably 'pop' soon but I guess like everything in pregnancy everyone is different. Some people never get a very big bump oddly!

Interesting article Fio, thanks. If DP sees this he will surely refer to me as a shetland pony from now on. He gets daily reminders to practise his kegels from the pregnant ladies iphone app he signed up to , so I can't be sure he doesn't have an MN log on.

We went for dinner. Friends spent ages cooking gorgeous food. I sicked it all up almost immediately. Obviously not ready for social reintegration just yet then.

We are going to an open evening thingy at the hospital tomorrow which I think includes a tour. I'm quite looking forward to it.

WestYorkshireGirl · 02/08/2010 21:04

Been away for a while so no chance to log on. Hi to all .

Flora sorry to hear about your sickness - I hope it settles soon. Welcome to scuba. Saltnvinegar I am 16 wks on Weds and it's my first and in the last week I've started to look quite fat rather than having a bump. I guess I have quite a 'domed' look e.g. there's no distinction between my abdomen and my stomach, whereas I have seen some women at similar dates who still have quite a flat abdomen. I weigh myself every week and since week 8 have put on 0.3 of a kg which I think it really good and I power walk every other day for 20 mins which is burning fat so I know I am not getting big because of bad eating. Still DH loves it and has taken to cuddling it lots !

Hope everyone else is doing ok. I am wondering if I might feel something soon?

Also, anyone know of any petite maternity ranges?

I was thinking about getting the Ina May Gaskin book anyway. I read a newspaper article about her last year and thought she talked sense. It's on this weekend's to do list.

The sickness is getting better and worse Confused. A couple of days this week I haven't felt nauseous at all - result! But when the nausea descends the compulsion to vom seems stronger than before, so overall more actual sicking going on. I definitely have more energy so easier to cope. Need to eat more though; I've lost 4lb this week.

My NCT catalogue order arrived - a dream genie (sp?) pillow, a couple of bump bands, a car seat belt adaptor and a trouser extender thingy. The trouser extender isn't much use yet; my lack of bump means it is more obtrusive than just undoing the top button of my jeans and tucking the corners in. Even that's only for comfort when sitting really rather than busting out of my clothes. Quite pleased to have got to nearly 4 months without needing mat gear.

Is anyone else having really freaky dreams? I never used to dream, or at least remember dreams. My subconscious is spilling out some seriously weird shit at night, usually about people I know in RL. I'll be in analysis well before January if this carries on.

Fuzzywood · 07/08/2010 09:08

I'm getting some very odd dreams too. I did the first time as well and know other pregnant friends have as well. So think it's pretty common, no idea why though. Glad you're starting to feel a bit better Flora, I'm still really tired but that's probably as much to do with an over active toddler as being pregnant. Thought I was having stomach pains yesterday then realised it was because my jeans were too tight :) Think I miht track down that book too, even though it's the second time for me I think I'm more worried so it may put my mind at rest. Have a good weekend all.

SweetChilliSauce · 07/08/2010 20:47

Hi everyone,

Hope its ok to jump in here and join the January crew, I'm 15+3 weeks pregnant with our first, giving a due date of 27th January. Very excited about the whole thing (when not accidentally dozing off on the sofa, laptop still attached) and also looking forward to getting to know you all :).

Flora, I've also been having batshit-bonkers dreams of late, particularly of the nightmare variety which is far from pleasant! I'm finding it extra odd as I can never normally remember my dreams at all... Confused.

I had some freaky dreams last night, very bizarre. Thankfully no nightmares though.

16 weeks today, got a midwife appointment on Wednesday where apparently we'll get to hear the heartbeat. I didn't take OH in with me last time but I think he wants to come in for this one.

Just been looking at holidays, we're looking to go away at the beginning of October - trying to decide how much energy I'll have then!

flossie75 · 08/08/2010 19:59

I've not been on here for ages! Hello to all the newbies since I last looked. All very hectic as we're having an extension built and have to keep choosing kitchen fittings, flooring etc - thought it would all be fun but not so great when you're knackered!

Have booked a holiday though for September! Can't wait and I've already bought maternity shorts & a summer dress in Dotty P so I'll have more than black trousers to wear.

My bump has suddenly exploded - there's no denying I'm preggers now.

16 weeks tomorrow - I think - or possibly already 16 plus a few days. I've lost track as they keep changing their minds! Also not having 16 wk mw apt till I'll be 17 wks as they only do 1 day a week and I couldn't get out of work stuff :(

ZippyPippy · 09/08/2010 21:46

Hi runningkate and flossie - I haven't heard anything about a 16 week appointment and will be 17 weeks on Thurs. Have just had a letter about the 20 week scan. Do I have to book this myself? Sorry if I'm sounding exceedingly dense, I have no idea how this all works!!

FloraPost · 10/08/2010 07:09

I had to book the 16 week appt myself. The GP gave us a pack right at the beginning with a list of all the routine appointments we would have and who is responsible for booking them.

V. sore stretchy tum yesterday and last night. I think the bump might be about to appear.
