Looking for some fellow late Januaryers to whisper about BFPs for late Jan 2011!! Just taken the test this afternoon and thrilled to be pg with #3 potentially (two DDs who are 19m and 3y). Anyone else out there?

Sorry you're not feeling well flora and runningkatie I hope you perk up soon.

I had my 20 week scan date come through but it was for the week we're on holiday beginning of Sept, so they are doing it the week we get back. Bit annoying as I would have liked to have had it before we went away, feels like a long way away but I'm sure it will come round quick.

Will the midwife want to see me before the 20 week scan? Seems like they don't really bother you for check ups for ages!

saltnvinigarcrips · 27/07/2010 20:41

I've got an appointment at 16 weeks where i think they listen for heartbeat. My 20 week scan is Sep 8 and can't wait

LittleBugsMum · 27/07/2010 22:13

Hi there. I'm due on the 29th Jan! Can I join?

I'm 32 with an almost 12 month old ds and am happy to be in my second trimester.

I have been reading (not finished it yet though) this thread and have had a tear in my eye for those who left the thread but congrats to all who got this far!

My next scan is 24th Sept & I can't wait to know the sex - not knowing is driving me crazy!

Anyone else finding out? Anyone against it?

That's interesting! I never thought about your body preferring one twin to the other - what would the docs do if that was the case?

Haha jjkm - I wouldn't be able to resist buying matching sickly sweet outfits for twin girls!!! Same with boys though - matching all the way

I haven't finished reading the whole thread yet - have you got children already?

WestYorkshireGirl · 28/07/2010 17:18

Runningkate I'm with you on the myth of pg bloom - am still really tired and now have to rest between jobs and also have an outbreak of some nasty skin thing on head and face and am on 4 x weeks of antibiotics so think they aren't helping!! I hope things perk up soon for us! jjkm glad you are enjoying seeing your little ones so frequently - it must be so exciting. Welcome littlebugs and hi to everyone else. Booked on to a NCT course today - anyone else doing them?

Welcome to the thread littlebugsmum. I don't have anything against finding out the sex but I don't intend to find out purely because I like the idea of speculating for the next however many months and seeing what people think. It will also hopefully mean people buy neutral coloured clothes too as like jjkm don't want to be inundated with all blue or all pink. Still I'm sure when they ask at the next scan I will definitely be tempted to say yes. Also my husband wants a boy so don't want to find out in case it isn't and he is disappointed for an hour;/day/month. I kind of figure that he won't care about the sex once he has seen me through the labour lol.
WYG i intend to do NCT but haven't booked anything yet. Is that something I should be doing soon?

FloraPost · 28/07/2010 21:23

I will definitely find out the sex, assuming the baby co-operates better than it did at the 12 week scan. I'm going to ask at the 16 week scan - don't expect they'll be able to say, but worth a punt.

We accidentally signed up for NCT classes a few weeks ago. I put my details into their website as it said it was just to register interest, but an invoice for £200 came straight away to be paid within a week!

For the short-arses among you - do you know anything about increased chance of the baby getting stuck during labour? I went to the endo clinic today and the twat helpful registrar mentioned that this is more likely because I am 5' 1" so may well end up with a cs 'or worse' . I seem to have stumbled across several less than sunny-natured doctors since getting pg...

Fuzzywood · 28/07/2010 21:38

Hey all, we're not going to find out whether it's a boy or girl. I reckon not knowing makes you more determined in labour to hurry up and find out
We did NCT classes last time around, learnt some helpful stuff but more importantly for me we met a lovely group of people and 2 years on we still meet weekly. It was brilliant when on maternity leave as it got me out of the house regularly which I found really important in the early days. Plus I now have a large and very trustworthy baby sitting circle. I'd highly recommend it for this alone.
Still feeling really tired, I never bloomed last time and don't reckon I will this time (it's all a myth!)

Fuzzywood · 28/07/2010 21:39

Oh and welcome Littlebugsmum

LadyBuzz · 28/07/2010 22:41

welcome littlebugsmum

I'm def not blooming, I'm a spotty mess and still feel crap most of the time!

Re the babys sex, I think I want to know this time, I will however have to persuade DH - i have 5 weeks no labour for me so I don't have that incentive!

flora I think the registrar is talking b*llocks my tiny tiny aunty had 3 decent size babies and her longest labour was 45 mins! what a stoopid thing to say to someone whether he thought it or not - fool!

careylouwho · 28/07/2010 22:51

Hi all! I hope you're all doing well - apart from the waking nights and sickness for some.

I'm now 15+1 and I can feel the baby moving! I've felt isolated flutters for over a week but it's getting much more regular and feels like gentle little pokes sometimes. Has anyone else felt anything yet? I was surprised as all the books say as a first-timer I won't feel the baby for ages but I definitely am

On the down side - I've put on a stone already and don't look pregnant but quite fat (I was already a stone overweight when I got pregnant). Given today's news headline, I'm feeling very unhappy about my body today. But did get out for an hour long walk with DH so that's a start.

Fuzzy Good advice about the NCT classes - think I might go for both the hospital ones and NCT ones. I want to cast my babysitter net as wide as I can

Well I'm off to bed now and I promise to try to keep up with the thread better from now on. Oh, except for the next two weeks when I go to Canada - yay!

Shanster · 29/07/2010 01:41

Hi everyone, and welcome littlebugsmums! Had my scan today and all is well, thank goodness! Will be finding out the sex at my 20 week scan, I couldn't wait another 6 months to find out! We found out with DD also, but was not inundated with pink as I am a redhead and told everyone there would be nothing worse than a redhead baby girl in pink, seemed to work! Luckily she is blond

LittleBugsMum · 29/07/2010 08:20

Thanks for the welcomes girls. Can someone put me on the list please? I want to see my stats

jjkm How exciting - twins at your 1st pregnancy is ideal. I have a friend like you, she likes my ds but can't hide her disgust at crying/pooing/sick lol. She'll be completely different when she has her own.

fuzzywood That's a very good point! Still too curious to consider it. Plus, if it's a girl I need a loft conversion...

ZippyPippy · 29/07/2010 09:18

Flora I'm a bit concerned as my husband is 6ft and I'm 5"4' so I'm worried we'll have a massive baby that I have to get out my small body!

But what ladybuzz says is reassuring, small women did have big babies with no problems!!

I'm sure there will be many more unhelpful comments from the medical profession and otherwise before we're done!

CupcakesHay · 29/07/2010 09:21

Hi All

I'm a bit late finding this topic... but i'm due 30th January.

Very excited - as we've been trying for 5 years.

All a bit odd - my husband works for the Foreign Office, so we're currently in Syria (where it's far too hot for me) - so I'm flying home in Dec for my "confinement" and going to stay at my mum and dad's in Devon... and pray that my husband can fly back in time for the birth.

I'm lucky that they want to scan me every month out here - so I've had about 3 scans already... and planning to find out the sex.

Think girls are better when they're older and boys are better when they're kids, so happy with either!

So - Hello fellow late January-ers!

CupcakesHay · 29/07/2010 09:58

Wow - I've been reading some of the posts.... heartbreaking!

I didn't realise how lucky I was having a scan every month!

it's crazy that they won't give you a scan if you are having pain, and so you get more stressed out worrying. Proper nuts.

Let's hope the rest of this goes smoothly for all of us.

Fuzzywood · 29/07/2010 11:49

I'd suggest it's complete rubbish about large babies and small mums. My DH is 6 ft 3 and I'm 5 ft 4, DD was 8lb 7 so a pretty good size, from first contraction until she was born was just less than 10 hours about 4 and a half of which were spent in hospital. So pretty quick for first time labour I'm told. I can't believe the consultant said that, ignore him he's a prat!
Keep well all x

saltnvinigarcrips · 29/07/2010 12:58

Welcome to the threat cupcakes. My sister-in-law was pregnant in Qatar and she got scanned every month too. Sounds like the antenatal care in the middle east is way better than here. Don't envy you in the heat though. I've struggled on the hot days here and it's not like i'm even showing yet! In a way I think it's nice we are due in winter as we can snuggle up but DH reckons our child will be doomed when it comes to birthday presents. Any thoughts on that anyone?

CupcakesHay · 29/07/2010 13:06

My friend just had a baby in Lebanon, and said it was hell being heavily pregnant in the heat, so agree with you on that one.

I'm due right at end of January - so secretly hoping it'll be late - the further away from Christmas the better - as I'm sure January babies miss out on presents!

My brother's wife was born mid-jan - and they have a half-birthdya for her in July! Which i think is a nice idea.

Also - think of birthday parties - at least in the summer you can do something outside in the garden - but no choice in January!

Let's just pray it's a mild winter - I was in UK doing teaching practice last year - and all the roads round my mums got snowed in! I hope it's not like that this winter! otherwise we'll all be having homebirths!

RunningKatie · 29/07/2010 15:26

Saltnvinigar - your DH is quite right, my bday is Jan 30th, my sisters is the 27th and my Mum is the 2nd - this little bump is due on the 23rd, so we think every likelihood it'll try gatecrashing someone else's birthday. The novelty of "joint" Christmas/Birthday presents soon wears off.

I do like the idea of half birthdays as whenever anyone asks what i'd like I have no idea as Christmas has only just been and gone. By the time it's July I've got lots of ideas! It is kind of great though being snowed in on your birthday though which has happened to me a few times.

Just been looking at NCT classes round here, I don't know anyone who has been to the new hospital in Derby to know what it's like.
