Looking for some fellow late Januaryers to whisper about BFPs for late Jan 2011!! Just taken the test this afternoon and thrilled to be pg with #3 potentially (two DDs who are 19m and 3y). Anyone else out there?

Hi ladies, and welcome knitter - they need water in your bladder, not getting there, so drink enough to make you feel like another glass or so would be too much - I've had to pee every time on all previous scans as I was just busting and actually there was too much there for the sonographer to see the little bubbas!

Yes salt I'm feeling more energetic these days, but that still means I'm knackered all the time thanks to my two loud bouncing bombs disguised as sweet children!

I'd be careful drinking too much water - we had our first scan last week and I was sent to the toilet three times during to empty my bladder as they said it didn't have to be full! Unfortunately for us the scan was not all positive though - no nasal bone and low Pap A so we have been given Down's odds of 1/243. It may be that we were slightly early - I think I was 10+6 but they said from measurements that I was 11+4. We are booked for a private scan on Thursday when hopefully things will be looking brighter. Does anyone know how exact the measuring is to find out the age of the baby?

LadyBuzz · 13/07/2010 13:15

yes drink lots of water apparently half a litre is not enough! so don't listen to my advise its crap

nicoless i'm not sure how they measure, but I really hope thursday goes well for you.

I am exactly 12 weeks today so due on my birthday

I also expressed my wishes to have a VBA2C and she said they would not advise it in my case. I have to see the consultant at about 34 weeks to discuss but it looks like it will be an ELCS for me.

BubbaAndBump · 13/07/2010 14:13

Oh boo LadyB how do you feel about that? I had an ELC with DD2 and have been told that, so far, I can go ahead with a VBAC but that I shouldn't try a home birth as I should be in hospital (too much blood loss on both previous births). I was really gutted to have an ELC with DD2 (though retrospectively it was a good thing as she was huuuuuge) and it took me a long time to get my head round it.

Good luck for Thursday nicoless. Not sure either how accurate measuring is but wishing you luck for next scan.

KnitterNotTwitter · 13/07/2010 14:22

nicoless The measureing is done working on the assumption that all babies are the same size/grow at the same rate up until some point past 14 weeks - not sure exactly when. So they like to present it as very accurate.

However I'm not convinced that is correct. With my DS they brought my due date forwards 4 days at the dating scan. But in the end he was born on the date I'd calculated as his due date - i.e. 4 days late according to them - and weighing 10lb 6oz. I refuse to believe that he wasn't a little bit bigger than average at 12 weeks...!

LadyBuzz · 13/07/2010 18:47

bubba i'm ok with it if it is the best thing for me and baby buzz.
I've been there before and i'm fine with the whole not doing it naturally.

I had a very complicated ELCS last time and I would hate to go for the vbac only for it to end with a CS that then went wrong!

I was so sure too!

knitter what a big lad, I love a chunky baby, my 2 were both whoppers - not as big as yours but they soon made up for it

BubbaAndBump · 13/07/2010 19:01

Glad you're okay with it LadyB

knitter I'll see your 10lbs6oz and raise you 18ozs Just seen you're in SW London - me too. There's obviously something in the water here!

Good luck for scans tomorrow WYG and Salt

Hi all, may I join you? Expecting our first on the 26th January.

...I also have an odd question. My first due date was in early January, but when we had our '11 week' scan we were told the baby was only 9 weeks along, so now am calculated for the 26th. The scan was on a Wednesday but we've been counting it as if it became the 9th week on that Friday, do you think it'll make a difference or should we count from the Wednesday?

Also at what point should I worry about cramps? Was wandering around yesterday morning with really bad abdominal pains, thinking 'I don't want to do labour, I can't even cope with this!' (I know, I'm a wimp )but then had a paracetamol and since then everything seems ok, so I don't want to bother the midwife about it... I don't need to worry as long as there's no bleeding, right?

LadyBuzz · 13/07/2010 19:39

welcome ryuk i don't think it will make a huge difference but I am due on the 25th and am 12 weeks today so that would make you 12 weeks tomorrow!

If the cramps carry on and they are worrying you, let your MW know, its prob just everything moving up as it does around 12 weeks. no bleeding is def a good sign!

WestYorkshireGirl · 13/07/2010 20:29

Saltnvinegar I struggle with the bladder thing and at the last scan also had to empty half. The letter says 1pint and start drinking an hour before, but then they always remark 'oh what a really full bladder' as if I've over-done it which really annoys me!

Nicoless I don't know the answer to your question being a newbie to this pg lark, but I hope Thurs goes well.

LadyB Glad to hear you are fine with the ELCS.

Ryuk I second LadyB's advice - some weird cramps are normal, but it you are worried speak to your mw.

Will let you know how tomorrow goes. In other good news I have finally found nice maternity bras after a bad experience at M&S. I went to an independent lingerie shop and was fitted by a real pro who couldn't believe the size M&S gave me and she showed me some of the 'Hot Milk' maternity range - they are lovely and I bought one + knickers. It's a nursing bra too (god knows how you do up those catches though!) so will last me and I felt so nice wearing it! DH has shown great interest and we are going out tomorrow night for meal if all goes to plan re the scan so who knows??!!! Also, my big order from JoJoMamanBebe has arrived and I am going to see if it fits. So, all in all a most productive day!

saltnvinigarcrips · 13/07/2010 20:34

Thanks for the best wishes bubba. Really can't wait till the scan but so worried too. Just keep worrying that they will turn around and say 'sorry, but there is no evidence that you have ever been pregnant' or 'it died at ... weeks...' Sorry to be morbid - the rest of the time i am optimistic. My only experience of a scan was when i went with my sister at her 12 week scan and she had a MMC so it's a little haunting. Anyway will let you know how it goes tomorrow.
Welcome Ryuk, according to my calcuations I am due on 25 or 26 too Will wait to see what is said tomorrow.

RunningKatie · 13/07/2010 20:44

Hello all

Just reporting back from our scan this morning.

Saltnvinegar - I was so worried about the scan too, crazy how you get yourself so worried but understandable too.

Anyway, they showed us the little one really quickly and then turned the screen to take measurements before turning it back again and taking a pic for us.

The due date has moved from Jan 27th to 23rd, so a week before my birthday now!

I had the nuchal fold test done, so more blood taken and will have to wait for the results.

Good luck for the scans tomorrow everyone.

Fuzzywood · 13/07/2010 20:56

Hi all, just popping in to say good luck with all the upcoming scans. Off to bed now as still shattered x

BubbaAndBump · 13/07/2010 21:03

Good news RunningK and welcome RYuk (your name seems familiar from another thread somewhere but can't think where)

Salt it's perfectly normal to think what you're thinking. I went through the entire two previous pregnancies (even when waddling about the size of five buses) convinced I'd made it all up and someone would tap me on my shoulder and tell me to go home!

Can't wait for mine on Friday, although like you, I've already thought of the worse possible outcomes (and, morbid cow that I am, have even thought how I'm going to tell people!! )

OP posts:
saltnvinigarcrips · 13/07/2010 21:52

Thanks for that Bubba - your last comment actually made me laugh as I was just thinking the same thing today. It's reassuring to know that I am not unusual in being morbid anyway.

Good news on your scan RunningK did you feel like you had enough time to look at the image? or was it a bit rushed?

Just another question, unrelated, but can anyone feel their uterus yet? I was just curious as all I have is a bloated belly which feels hard but apparently some people can feel it around 12 weeks. Will be so nice to start getting a real bump instead of the jelly belly i have developed over recent weeks. Not sure if that is pregnancy related or because I quit smoking and eating more.

Yep, massive bump has appeared out of no where for me in the past 2 weeks. I'm only 11 weeks, I swear I wasn't this big with dd until MUCH later. I'm jealous of all your scans, I have anotgher week to go (I think, have lost the appt card)!

KnitterNotTwitter · 14/07/2010 09:11

RE kicking I've been able to feel my little bean moving about from 8 weeks - DS was an early wriggler too. Midwives always look a bit sceptical when I tell them this but 'tis true - honest!

I've definitley got a bump too - i've been in my maternity jeans since about 6 weeks and just started wearing maternity stuff to work - SO much comfier :-)

Shanster · 14/07/2010 18:42

Hmm, just called the doctor and my scan isn't for another 2 weeks. Bummer, I don't think I can wait that long before I start wearing mat gear to work.

ZippyPippy · 14/07/2010 18:46

Hi all,

Can I join? It has been so great to read all your experiences so far. It's my first and I am 12+6 but have been in total denial as I've very fortunately felt fine and my sister had a terrible time with MMCs so I was convinced it was going to happen to me!

However, I had the scan this morning and happily all is looking good, EDD 20th Jan.

I also just started a new job 2 months ago, found out I was pregnant 3 weeks into the job. Is going to be a nightmare telling them, I know there is nothing they can say but they've been so nice. Arrghhh it's going to be horrible!

flossie75 · 14/07/2010 18:50

Hello - been off here for a few days. Had my scan today and it's all good news! It was such a relief.

Loads of movement from bub but it took ages to get in the right position for nuchal fold - had to go away and come back!

Meant they got some good pics though.

Need to start looking for tall maternity trousers now - I only need to look at food to be bulging over my current ones! Has anyone any recommendations on where to get long legged trousers?

Fuzzywood · 14/07/2010 20:59

flossie glad the scan went well.
I have some tall friends and think they got maternity trousers from Long Tall Sally, Blooming Marvellous and I think Top Shop. Need to go up into the loft to find mine, think that's where they are. Sure I'll need some new stuff though

saltnvinigarcrips · 14/07/2010 21:25

Hi everyone, in such a good mood as had scan today and everything is looking great. Such a relief as I had the same angst as you Zippy by the sounds of it. They have put me at 12 and 4 days so I'm 4 days ahead of what I thought which is nice, so now EDD is 22 Jan.
Glad your scans were good too Flossie and Zippy.
Shanster I hope the next 2 weeks fly by for you. I couldn't wait till today and literally counting down the days.
DH seems very excited now that he has seen him/her and is telling everyone. Think it maybe didn't seem very real before.

BubbaAndBump · 14/07/2010 21:32

Great to see lots of good news rolling in - may it continue for the rest of us too

I'll next pop in after my scan Friday morning. Fingers (and legs) crossed
