Here we go, pull up a deck chair, catch some rays and help yourselves to a mini eggs ice cream.

Link to the stats list.

Floozie how come you are having the triple test? See I am obsessed with tests!

floozietoozie · 14/04/2010 17:44

MLS just because it's on offer I suppose. I had it last time as well. They don't do nuchals here so that's the only free option, still debating whether to get a private one done or not. My midwife recommended only having one or the other as she said you can get conflicting results, which wasn't completely reassuring, but if I do have the nuchal I'll still do the triple test. I know my age will put the odds up though.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 14/04/2010 17:56

Hi all. Just did a post for tiny on the old thread and pulling up a chair on this one.

Nymphadora · 14/04/2010 18:09

mls no nuchal either!

Hermya I work for social services

floozie that's my point sort of. I don't get paid for travelling to them though so I would lose an hour+ every time for MW & 2+ for hospital. MW would be ok if I could get it first thing but they seem to start late. Also v difficult when dh wants to come as I work more in school hols when he is off!

Re tests I will have the minimum possible, think they would stress me out too much and there is very few conditions I would terminate for. Anything heart /lungs etc can be picked up on a scan so they are worth it though. Friends son had kidney problem & was diagnosed before birth so he could be treated asap.

Hermya321 · 14/04/2010 18:52

Nymph Ah right, that is a bit of a trek isn't it for MW appointments. I have a similar problem as I work a bit further down from you. Luckily I often end up with random days off during the week so that help.

OP posts:
Nymphadora · 14/04/2010 19:08

hermya I only work 1/2 time but i am usually busy on days off too, kids have stuff after school, dd2 has a few appts and we are doing up the house & garden!

Just told kids dd1 clung to me for ages shaking(think in excitement ) & dd2 wanted to phone everyone she knew who then weren't in as it was too early! She hasspoken to my cousin which seems to have calmed her for a bit anyway!

Hermya321 · 14/04/2010 19:23

Oh Nymph your kids sound like a real treat, bless them!!

So whose going to find out at the twenty week scan?

OP posts:
Nymphadora · 14/04/2010 19:25

Not me. I like the surprise although dd2 only wants a girl

VMumToBe · 14/04/2010 19:30

Hello everyone and sorry again for being awol - finally baby is bigger than cyst which seems an unbelievable achievement! I don't think I have slept since Easter worrying about it, the scan was okay but then they did loads of tests which only came back with the results this weekend.

If they are to operate on cyst now it looks like they will do it after the birth unless anything changes in the meantime [BIG sigh of relief] and everything developing okay by the looks of things.

Phew for me...but big big hugs to Tiny and everything crossed for you x

Hermya321 · 14/04/2010 20:09

VMum Thats brilliant news, I'm glad your scan went well.

Nymph I was thinking about a surprise as well, but DH would like to know so that he can bond with the bump. I remember as a teenager desperately wanting a little sister when my Mum got pregnant with my little brother. I can not tell you how disapointed I was when my new little sister turned out to be a brother. Seriously lasted all of about ten minutes.

I dont think im bothering with the triple test, wont influence me anyway, just hurt my arm
I have decided to go on the 29th April for a 4D scan when baby is 16+6 weeks to find out the sex and have some cool pics, all to cheer me up after hospital scan, cant wait!
Invited my mum and 13 year old brother aswell but warned them that baby might look more like E.T at the moment

lilmissmummy · 14/04/2010 21:18

Joining in the new thread! How exciting! Nice here isn't it!

Antenatal care here has been awful. I saw the doctor at 6 weeks and explained that I had mc in October and was feeling vunerable - the doctor referred me to the midwife who made a booking in appointment on... 20th April (I will be about 15 weeks). I was also meant to have an early scan to put my mind at rest and got one at 12 weeks which wasnt very clear and I have to go for another one on the same date as my midwifes appointment. PLUS if my dates are right then I will now be too far gone for the triple test or the NT test (the scan dated me at 11+1 and My period dated me at 12+1)

I feel deserted and wouldnt know what I would have done if it wasn't for you lot keeping me sane.

Sorry about the rant! dh is in LOndon tonight for a work awards thing and I am in a strop about it - mainly because he is staying at the Hilton Mayfair in a Suite and I am

VMum Good news about your scan

Hermya I think we are going to have a surprise, we have one of each and found out with both of them so looking forward to not knowing.

Nymph bless your children! DD (5) is convinced I am having a girl called Painter (dont think that is a name) and DS thinks I am having a boy called Anakin (you can tell he is 8!!!)

MLS we are having the triple test (hopefully)

lilmissmummy · 14/04/2010 21:21

SamB know what you mean about the tiredness [fast asleep and snoring smiley]

Nymphadora · 14/04/2010 21:23

We have more now. Dd2 has decided that only boys can have boys so I can't be& dh is currently pg with a goat we aren't go to be getting a boy

lilmissmummy it does seem to be a crap bit of pg for antenatal care hoping it gets better

lilmissmummy · 14/04/2010 21:45

Thanks Nymph loving your dh being pg witha goat - so you're having a girl by default then!

Hermya321 · 14/04/2010 21:57

Nymph I am very curious as to what your Dh has been doing to get pregnant with a baby goat. Curiouser and curiouser!

Dd2 has an interesting imagination...

KSal · 15/04/2010 08:40

right, i think i'm past the deadline by which i would have been called with 'bad' mews from my combined test, so i have added myself to the stats list...
woohoo.

decided to start telling people last night and no-one was answering their phones... how very inconsiderate!!

MummyLovesSadie · 15/04/2010 09:07

Just checking the stats list & there are loads on there who have not told us about their 12 week scans. Maybe we should have added an asterisk or something at the end of our name when we had our scans?

BTW, waiting for combined results phone call now. Hoovered the house at 7am so that I didn't miss the call when it comes any time after 9. Crapping myself.

KSal · 15/04/2010 09:13

good luck MLS....

shieldbug · 15/04/2010 09:41

mls hope you hear soon so you aren't kept in suspense for too long. Fingers crossed.

KSal no news is definitely good news in this case.

nymph your kids sound brilliant. I would love to hear more of their theories of reproductive biology!

DillyDora · 15/04/2010 09:54

Hi All,

Thinking of you mls Fingers crossed.

Top stuff Ksal

Goat eh? Better than a tractor? Too sweet!

Stressed at work today as my closest colleague (the course leader, but she only works 3 days a week) is going to see the Dept Head about her work load, and tmrw I see the Dept Head about the pregnancy and how on earth to tell this colleague about the baby when it will really stuff up her plans and she's already stressed to the max about her workload. I'm full time and not only can this course not really run without me (or cover for me) but the one we are trying to start definitely can't. Feel like I've p*ssed on everyone's chips don't like this at all. Another colleague here waited till 5 months before telling anyone at work, don't want to do that obviously but wish I could run away and not tell anyone! Bah.... Any advice? Sorry to moan.

xxx

Hermya321 · 15/04/2010 11:08

I had a dream last night that I'd finished my maternity leave and I'd forgotten to arrange childcare for LO. It was really silly I had to take him to work and foist him off on my colleages. They weren't best impressed as he kept crying for his teddy bear who was called 'Big Fat Ted' (Not the most pc of names is it) but like the unorganized Mother I am destined to be, I'd forgotten the damn thing. Oh well.

MLS Good luck today!!

KSal Fabiness topped with awesomeness!!

Dilly Regarding work, at the end of the day this baby is going to appear come October whatever happens at work that is something that you can't help. But what you can do is try and find an approach that minimizes the potential impact of your maternity leave. I know where you're coming from, I felt the same way when I told people at work. You do feel that you have let people down by becoming pregnant, strange isn't it. Personally if I was in your position, I would try and soften the news of the pregnancy by saying that I knew that it would affect things but that I was going to try and work out a solution that would hopefully enable work to go ahead with a minimum of disruption. With regards to your colleage I know it's hard, but her work load is a separate issue to yours and that needs to be addressed by those higher up. I will say that I've heard that those who work part time say that it's like working full time with less hours. Maybe the dept are piling too much on her and that does need to be addressed but ultimately that is a side issue to your LO.

I hope my rambling has helped in any way shape or form.

DillyDora · 15/04/2010 11:17

Thanks Hermya, if they can just give us the nod to get cover then we'll be fine. I really think seeing the HoD first to get an idea of what's happening with finances will help. Because of the timing and the academic year there's a lot I can do to set things up before I go and then let it roll (I hope!). I think working pt is often very hard as you say, the load doesn't drop, just the hours!

Love the dream - I'll be having those I reckon!

Ho hum...at least the sun is shining here

xx
