Here we go, pull up a deck chair, catch some rays and help yourselves to a mini eggs ice cream.

AbFabT we don't have a tumble dryer but are going for a mix of reusable and disposal, I think they take round 2 days to dry without dryer x what does everyone think of the names Lydia and Alice and Alistair and Kieron? (we aren't finding out the sex)

Tyson86 · 16/04/2010 10:38

Roobear I like your names.
Dh and I have chosen our names for def now already, we had them ready when i MC so had a while to get used to them

Elsa123 · 16/04/2010 10:42

Welcome to all the new people. I have no idea about nappies or anything else for that matter, so have no opinion about reusable or otherwise. I think I will go with the flow and see how things go.

I woke up at 0100 last night with the shakes, like a bad blood sugar crash. Not nice, ended up going downstairs to get a packet of those swedish dried bread things, sitting up in bed munching them reading a brochure. Was a while before I felt better.

Congrats to all the scanees!

AbFabT · 16/04/2010 11:02

Nymph, you will be happy! Be positive!

Roo, Alice is my middle name, and I absolutely love it. If DH doesn't approve Danger as a middle name for a daughter, I might pass Alice on as a m/n. It means noble, which I think is an admirable quality.

Aw, Elsa. Hope you are feeling better this morning (and don't have crumbs in the bed!).

So what's everyone up to this weekend? We are off to look at sofa-beds (getting the house ready for overnight visitors when the baby comes) and hopefully go to the garden centre, and that's about it!

Nymphadora · 16/04/2010 11:05

elsa did you speak to MW about the 20 week scan?

Elsa123 · 16/04/2010 11:07

Hello again! Am wondering what the point of having a sodding midwife/any antenatal care is....I rang the hospital (as advised by several of you- thank you ) to discover that in addition to not getting a 12-13.5 week scan, that they hadn't slotted me in for a 20 week one with the comment of 'waiting' as they said that the midwife hadn't given enough info about my address. But they weren't planning to chase it up. Turns out there was enough info about my address when I checked- they were just being STUPID. So I booked myself in and have a 20 week scan when I'm 19 weeks on 19 May. Then tried to book my 17 week appt with the midwife, as she comes to the GP's every 2 weeks, of course that doesn't work with my dates, oh and neither does the following week. Its a good job this isn't my first and I'm not all anxious- oh but yes it IS MY FIRST!!!!!! ARGHHHH. Had enough- its persuaded me not to stay down south to have this baby, I shall return to my home up North and see how I get on there when the time comes, grumble grumble grumble.

Nymphadora · 16/04/2010 11:09

At least the scan is booked now & you don't have to pay again! Where are you from ?>

Hermya321 · 16/04/2010 11:13

Fingon I've not been a student for a few years now and I still haven't gotten rid of the overdraft (the credit crunch didn't help matters much though). Glad to have another person who wants to go down the reusables, not many people in RL round me seem to do it.

Nymph Whats the issue with your consultant?

Elsa My word, you haven't been treated well have you. I hope it gets better.

Roobear Those are lovely names, my niece has decided that our baby will be either a Nemo or a Dory .

hermya don't know yet , just every other ante natal appointment/contact has been disappointing so not getting my hopes up that they'll be any better

RooBear · 16/04/2010 11:18

Hermya I have a friend who's called Finn Nemo, think his parents had a fish obsession! Hope you get sorted Elsa and Nymph its my first too and can't imagine having extra stress

Hermya321 · 16/04/2010 11:19

Oh Nymph I am sorry, well if you ever need a fellow person to whinge with, give us a shout! I do hope they're somewhat better this time for you.

I'm still waiting to meet my kick ass midwife, but I have found a doula who I'm going to speak with about her services and what she does. Also can you learn hypnobirthing from a book or do you have to go to the classes?

Hi! All

MummyLovesSadie i have been thinking of you, do you have any news?

Tiny fingers, legs, toes, arms - everything crossed for you.

I've had my 16 week appointment, but it was at 15+1. All they do is record the results from the bloods you would've had done at the booking in appointment, and listen to the baby's heartbeat (which is fab!)

Told my children (aged 8 & 6) on Monday, they are both extremely excited, which is such a relief. Both of them want a sister.

I don't have to really tell anyone at work, as I work for myself. But have told the lady who I regularly do work for. She is pleased but worried about who will do all the work. I intend to start maternity leave at 29 weeks, so that I can look after my children during the school holidays. I intend to go back to working for myself (from home) once baby is 9 months old.

I think I am having a boy, but will def find out at 20 week scan. I only have a girls name at the moment which is Charlotte but would be shortened to Lottie. My daughters name is Emily and my son is Joe (Joseph) and I think Lottie goes quite well with their names.

Am 15+5 today.

Tyson86 · 16/04/2010 11:25

Abit premature i know but when you give birth and they force you in the shower when you feel like crap (my experience as i was very ill and not believed at that time) can your husband take you in as last time my mum was there but she will be babysitting my ds this time and i dont want to be on my own with the midwife after last time. This is if i dont get the birth i want that is.

nunnie · 16/04/2010 11:30

We bought cloth nappies for dd, with every intention of using them, she weighed 5lb 13oz when she was born, and for some reason they told us at ante natal classes not to buy too much newborn, go straight for 0-3 months lasts longer and not many babies even fit in newborn. So we did as we were advised. The midwife in the delivery suite laughed for ages when she put her baby grow on , we did take disposable nappies of course to hospital but they were way to big, so the midwife went scrounging to see if anyone had tiny baby nappy. Anyway long story slightly shorted the cloth nappies we had bough, didn't actually fit her to 6 months and even then were a bit big, so by then we had gotten used to disposable I am sad to say.
Still they came in handy for polishing the car .

Told I am pretty good when it comes to waffle

Elsa123 · 16/04/2010 11:31

Nymph- I'm currently in Buckinghamshire with Wycombe hospital meant to be the one that provides the scans- then I'd have a choice of Stoke Mandeville, Wycombe midwife led delivery unit or the John Radcliffe in Oxford. The latter is quite a haul away, but as my sister was left with no one at her 1st birth at Stoke, when she was in agony and panicking, then the senior midwife who was meant to be there left her with a student and my sister got a 3rd degree tear that an experienced midwife could have helped to avoid, puts me off there somewhat oh and they refused her an epidural, when it was early enough to have one and gave her pethidin which resulted in a drowsy baby who wouldn't breastfeed, and she received no help. So my antenatal care combined with her birth experience in that area does not fill me with joy. My weekend/holidays/leave home is in Lincolnshire- no idea what the hospitals are like there, except I do know that Boston Pilgrim maternity unit looks grim- but I don't know about the care. Grantham has a midwife led unit with 100 births a year and there's lincoln county- don't know what thats like either.

Nymphadora · 16/04/2010 11:35

elsa bound to be someone on here who knows the area ask around!

Nymphadora · 16/04/2010 12:22

Just read through my Mat notes and loads of stuff from last appt is incorrect/not filled in/says I agreed but didn't. This whole MW thing is really winding me up. Dont think I can change either as there is only one for the town.

MummyWilliams · 16/04/2010 12:35

I know exactly what you mean Nymphadora. When i had some worrying pains at 10 weeks i tried to contact the midwife to be told she only attends the surgery on Mondays. I was given her mobile number, I rang that but it went straight to answer phone, so I sent her a text - to this day I have never had a reply. In the end I had to see the doctor - who told me I was just winding myself up.

I suffer from anaemia, so i knew my iron count would be low, but it was me who had to chase up my blood results and I have had to go on iron tablets.

With my previous pregnancies I had fantastic doctors & midwives, but since I moved 10 miles away I had to change surgery - AND I AM NOT BEST PLEASED.

Hermya321 · 16/04/2010 12:39

nymph what about the next town over? Or is that too far for you?

OP posts:
RooBear · 16/04/2010 12:42

I have anaemia too MummyWilliams and haven't seen my blood test results, which I presume is good but I'm tired all the time which I know is pregnancy related but not sure if my iron levels are still low? I have a mw appt. in may so i'll find out then I suppose

VMumToBe · 16/04/2010 12:48

Hello Ladies!

Some things as I think of them (in no particular order!)

1> We weren't going to find out what flavour our baby was at 20 weeks until DH's make said that they can HEAR you - don't want to give them a complex by sayign she when there's a boy in there! Has anyone else heard this?!?

2> I am currently in isolation at home as a guy at work has chicken pox and I've not had it. As such it's a bit of a risk (see good article have just gone for blood test to see if I have immunity

3> Have just found fab acquanatal class run by physios at the Royal Berks (Reading). Anyone nearby do join! Details from Helen Knight ([email protected])

4> Do I have a record not having met my midwife yet?! She was away at my booking in and I haven't had another...have 20 week scan on 24 May and seeing consultant 1 June, as past broken back can be an issue for epidurals, apparently.

5> Just bought some fab good value work stuff at Jojomamanbebe, we get a 10% discount for being mumsnetters!!

Enough! Sorry for the long post hope it's useful

Nymphadora · 16/04/2010 12:49

hermya think I would have to change gps etc too & they are nice & only round corner

Probably nowhere near as bad as I think and def not as bad as others. I won't be dependant on MW anyway so as long as the consultant is ok..

Does no one else have appts at the moment? Am I out of sync?

AbFabT · 16/04/2010 12:53

Hermya, I am looking into Doulas too.
My friend said she learnt hypnobirthing from a book and CD, she is due next month, but seems quite convinced she's prepared as much as you can be with the hypnobirthing. She's lending me the book and CD when she's finished.

LMAO @ nunnie re polishing the car!

AbFabT · 16/04/2010 12:58

VMum, I don't think the baby knows at this stage the difference between he and she!

I have a feeling I don't have A midwife, but a team.

Nymph, I have my next MW appointment next Monday.

Elsa123 · 16/04/2010 13:13

Aah Nymph- we are rowing in the same boat aren't we?!
