Morning TINKS, and thanks for the new thread. Love the title - that is indeed the question
Had a great time at the show yesterday. Had lunch in pizza express, had a rather expensive visit to the Bobbi Brown make-up counter , and went on the big wheel on the docks. Dd3 really enjoyed herself, so makes up for being totally fleeced in the 'souveneir' dept . Ds still not well - not tolerating milk at all, so am going to get some flat isotonic drink as recommended on another thread (gatorade?) as his nappies are getting drier. I really feel sorry for him, but at least dh is at home tomorrow so I can finish off what needs doing in work and then be at home tuesday.
Hope everyone is well - congrats again GRUFF! Look forward to hear how your little nephew is doing

tinkstoddleriswalking · 28/03/2010 09:49

morning diege - ye old shopping buddy lol

sounds like u had a great time yesterday
so sorry that ds still poorly hope he is on the mend soon

NatalieJane · 28/03/2010 10:22

Good morning - Thanks for new thread Tink

Gruff, can't wait to hear more details, hope you get to visit soon

Diege, sound's like you had a lovely day Poor J though You'll know already but dehydration can be especially dangerous under 1y, obviously keep a close eye, anything you're not happy with GP/A&E straight away. Hope he feels better soon.

I am about to somehow drive to Ikea, just me and DS1 Am not bricking it in the slightest Motorway, parking, motorway.... ARGHHHH! And then we've got to make it home with a car full of furniture Won't be far from you though Diege, will give me practise for when I come to see you!

If they block my card again I swear I will turn into a bad mad woman!

Eeeeek - wish me luck!

GruffaloSoldier · 28/03/2010 11:02

Good Morning Wagoners!

Thanks for thread Tink I am off to Tesco today. DH is working (but off Tuesday) so me and GC are going to have to do the shopping, grrr!

Diege - Hope J is better soon, poor little thing Glad you had a good day out yesterday.

NJ - enjoy Ikea. be brave, Im sure you will be fine!

Well new baby update - still no name as yet! think that is the last thing on their mind. however good news is, he was moved yesterday from HDU to SCBU so that was after 24 hours of being in there. So good progress is being made. I have lots of photos in my email and he is truly scrumptious! I think my sister has still got people to tell so I need to wait before I can put any pictures up!

Well I just washed my hair and GC is doing his usual emptying all the shelves of books.

am not feeling very motivated today. just wanna sit here and loaf in my pjs. Im not dressed yet and GC is in just a nappy. oh dear!

Hope everyone is having good Sundays!

Diege · 28/03/2010 12:04

That's great news GRUFF Sound like he's doing really well. How is your sister feeling?
NAT, you will be FINE. Is it the Warrington IKEA you are going to?
Yes, taking no chances with ds - dh has been sent out to get some diorylte sachets, wasn't sure about the other stuff I mentioned - seemed a bit 'controversial' when I googled it
Hi TINKS - feeling a bit of Shopper's Remorse after yesterday's makeup splurge . Must try and work extra hard on e-bay today, if ds gives me the chance!

essenceofSES · 28/03/2010 12:23

Hello!

Tink - thanks for the new thread (loving the title!)

Gruff - that's great news about your nephew. Sounds like he is progressing really well

Nat - have fun on your little adventure off to Ikea. You will be fine.

Diege - good call to be v wary of dehydration. Diaoralyte should do the trick. If he won't take a lot, just let him sip at it or if necessary put some in an oral syringe and squirt it in. Poor little boy, hope he's better soon.

I'm looking for your thoughts/advice on two issues this morning....

  1. in the last few weeks, O has not wanted me to put him down for a nap if he dozes off on me whilst feeding. He seems to want the comfort of being latched on. I think it may be because he's getting used to not having me my boobs around when he's at nursery and so wants to keep close by whilst he can. Do you think he'll gradually get used to this and settle better or should I do anything else? Leads onto...
  2. DH is going to try and do O's bedtime tonight without me my boobs. I'm going to feed him about 4.45pm and then go out (church and then my parents) as O seems to sense when I'm around. I'm v pleased DH has decided to try this - will be the first time ever I've not had to be involved putting O to bed! I'm worried he'll find it hard though. Any tips? Should he reassure him by cuddling him to sleep or shoul he just put him in his cot and put up with the crying, going in to reassure him every 5-10mins or anything else?

Thanks

Diege · 28/03/2010 12:31

Thanks SES, dh should be back soon with sachets - from experience all of mine didn;t take them too well - is it ok to mix with juice?
On your Q front, not really sure what to suggest for first Q; not sure you need to do anything as such if you're both happy? Could you try comforting him with dummy if it is a problem? Apologies if you're not a dummy person .
On the second front, I'd only try the leave him to cry/cc approach if this is what you're going to do too (ie, you AND dh). I think it would be confusing for O for you to do the softly softly settling,m and dh the cc...though if you want to do cc anyway then it might be good to get dh to start if you are liable to give in a bit anxious about it? Sorry if I'be misunderstood anything! Sleep deprivation taking its toll...

essenceofSES · 28/03/2010 12:42

All makes sense thank you Diege! DH is even softer than me (if poss!) and will be happier trying to cuddle him to sleep.

Absoluty fine to mix Diaoralyte with juice.

Right, O refusing to nap properly and he can't possibly need any more milk so I think I'll take him for a walk in the back pack with the dogs as he often falls asleep in it. Catch you all later!

Diege · 28/03/2010 13:49

Oh good I'm glad my ramblings made some sense! My dh is also a total softy - honestly it's like Mirium stopppard vs Gina Ford sometimes...
Dh still not back...had a call an hour ago saying he was having a toastie in the ice cream cafe in town ...not that I mind him doing that, just don't want to be reminded when I'm (literally) up to my knees in vomit and poo!

GruffaloSoldier · 28/03/2010 17:45

Hi all,

Diege - I think your DH needs to be kicked back into bootcamp quick smart LOL hope he came back swiftly after the toastie and took over for you!

SES - sounds like a plan re O and settling. hope it works!

well its a bit crap here

My Dsis is being treated appallingly by blinking nurses at SCBU. Most are nice but she has had 1 yesterday absolutley shocking to her and really unhelpful for BF. my sis wanted a go (her first go) and she said "oh your not doing it right" so took baby off her and tube fed again

my sis was so upset and complained to duty mw then the nurse came and had a go at her for complaining!!!my dBIL told them to "get that woman away from my baby" which is a bloody good job.Im so upset for them.

there was a problem with another nurse who said baby hadnt had a good night and then a nice mw said that he had had a fantastic night but this wasn't til later so my sis had been worrying for nothing!!!!

its so bad and she is so upset as it is without this added hassle. my other sister thinks its because they are NHS staff and my sister is private. its awful and I feel so helpless.

they also havent let them have any skin to skin contact

tinkstoddleriswalking · 28/03/2010 18:02

essenceofSES · 28/03/2010 19:50

Gruff - that is disgraceful
I am so for you and your family. I hope she gets some better and more supportive MWs soon.

Diege - hope J is doing better

Tink - sounds like a good day!

Our plans for this evening have gone out the window. When O and I got back from our walk, DH had managed to burn himself badly thanks to a garden bonfire and some petrol!
He'd used his chainsaw in the morning and filled it with petrol. In doing so he spilt some on his polyester trousers. A couple of hours later he decided to have a bonfire to burn some garden rubbish and his trousers went up in flames. He threw himself down on the ground and took his clothes off.
(At this point when he was telling me, I said "What, you stripped down to your boxers in the front garden?" "No", he said, "They came off too!")
Our poor neighbours!!! Although fortunately our front garden is a fairly quiet spot!
Anyway, we went off to A&E and he has burns all down the right side of his torso and on his right hand. They've bandaged him all up and he has to go to the burns unit tomorrow to get checked over.

I sort of feel sorry for him but how silly!!

GruffaloSoldier · 28/03/2010 22:13

Goodness Ses that is an eventful evening! I hope he is ok now. I bet he won't do that again

Just popping in to say good news that my Dsis had much better nurse today so much better day had 2hours of skin on skin and he is also off all his monitors except feeding consultant is pleased with progress. sis has loads of friends/ex boss etc asking if they can come and visit - idiots!!!she keeps getting loads of texts wanting to come visit and see DN but he isnt even allowed visitors yet. people just dont have a clue.

sorry rant over...

gingerbreadlatte · 29/03/2010 08:00

Morning everyone- sorry for absence for a week or so.

Tink- thanks for the new thread. I've lost the old one so not sure what has been going on...

Gruff- is this your DSis that was due an elective Csect? did she go into labour early ? (sorry for having missed the news) Im sorry she isnt getting treated well by the nurses but it sounds like things are getting better with the skin to skin etc...

Diege- sorry to hear DS is still poorly... Hope that the diorylte has helped him. about your DH and the toastie though!!

Ses- sounds like your DH had a lucky escape... glad he is ok- but I do confess to LOLing in office about the removal of boxers in the front garden

Tink- hello- I've finally got around to ordering that coat from Boden- just waiting for it to arrive.

After a busy weekend last weekend, work was manic last week but it was good to be busy- just annoying it gets in the way of MNing time

Milestone (well kind of) weeked for us. The Small Giraffe has finally worked out how to crawl She isnt racing about yet but she will get to what she wants to, in particular my bags which are now a target to be emptied Suspect there will be no stopping her now.

I had a very odd dream last night that I met all you girls. I was in a taxi, I went to Diege's house first, collected her, then went to Kay's, then Nat's! It was weird. Was like I knew you all really well
Wasnt impressed to wake up to find it dark this morning and very wet. My body still thinks it's an hour earlier and so 5.30 felt like 4.30

4 day week this week HURRAY! then some lovely plans for the weekend including a 1st bday party that we are really looking forward to!

Morning everyone else!

gingerbreadlatte · 29/03/2010 08:02

Tink- what colour is the coat? the description said Red and or Rhubarb... I am wondering if its actually pink?

Hope you feel better soon. Yay for egg delivery

NatalieJane · 29/03/2010 10:18

Morning

Gruff, I am also for your sister, but glad that she has been treated better over the last day, and your DN sound's like he is doing really well, you must all be so relieved!

Ses, Goodness me! Sound's like he was VERY lucky, also had to have a giggle at the mental picture though . Can imagine it will be the talk of every get together for the next 10 years!

Diege, at his toastie! Yep was the Warrington Ikea, smaller but much more 'doable' than the Ashton-in-Makerfield (or what ever it's called!) one!

DH decided he would come along and take DS2 and 3 over to his mum's while DS1 and 1 were in Ikea, but I still drove there, motorway wasn't too bad, infact once we got on and were just driving down it was fine, I could drive motorways all day, no stop-start, no gear changes, have yet to do a busy time, but it was good! Got all of my furniture that would fit in the car, just the bookcases and desk top to go, DH is going to go in his van next weekend and get them And have just re-ordered the big order with the NDA, already had one delivery this morning, only a text book, but it's all coming together. Also ordered the printer thingy over the weekend and sorted out what needed re-ordering from Fraud Friday as it's become known, am still grrrrring at the bank!

DH is going to ring the letting agents to make an appointment to go and see the house again, we need to measure up in some rooms, and well, I just want to see it again! Hopefully in daylight this time so DH can see the garden, I saw it the first time I went, but it was dark by the time we all went later that day.

Poor DS3, he's had the four front teeth top and bottom for ages now, and all of a sudden all of his other teeth both sides top and bottom are coming through all at once, he's been really whingy, not crying just moany, and chomping on anything he can grab, but he's still sleeping all night which I'm pleased about because it means he can't be in that much pain. But bless his heart, you can see when he's eating, he's chomping but it's obviously hurting at the same time, he doesn't know whether to chomp harder or not at all And we have started the turn over from formula to cows milk, well say started, I gave him cows milk all day Friday, thinking just the formula before bed, but he's been refusing the formula since, so he is just on cow's milk now, didn't really want him to do it that quickly incase it hurt his belly, but he seems fine and no different so far. Next step, getting him to take the milk out of his cups, he's a lot better with juice/water from his cups now so fingers crossed we will be bottle free by the time we move, no more washing up!!

Right, I am going to go and put the heating back on, it is freezing today, fingers barely working to type!

Rugbylovingmum · 29/03/2010 11:51

Hi all, sorry I've been AWOL for a week. Things have been hectic here - I've managed to read the thread but no time to post.

Gruff - congrats on the new DN but for your SIL having such a stressful time. Glad to hear she has had some skin to skin and cuddles now . Hope she has better nurses from now on.

Ses - glad your DH is okay but had a little giggle at his stripping in the front yard. DP has almost set light to himself more than once using petrol to try to start a bonfire - honestly men and fire are such a bad combo!

GBL - hooray for crawling!

Diege - hope DS is better.

Nat - well done on the motorway driving! House sounds exciting - I'll have a look at the floorplans you've done on fb. Poor DS - it's awful when they are teething.

Sorry for crap catch up, brain turned to mush. Hi to everyone I've missed.

Well my big news is DD has her first tooth through and it looks like a second is just about there. She has been a bit miserable bless her and hasn't been sleeping too well so it seems to have taken me ages to recover from having my teeth out - I've just been exhausted! DP has a rotten cold and an ear infection too so you can imagine how grumpy this household has been! She is spending all her time on her tummy now and is managing to wriggle forwards a tiny bit - this morning she did a kind of commando crawl to reach her toy. She only moved about a foot but I was still , she is only 24 weeks. I'm not sure she knows how she did it so hopefully it will take her a while to repeat it - we don't have space for a mobile baby here, the living room is tiny. But we have been looking for a new house to buy and we may have found somewhere we like [very excited icon]!!! It is a bungalow and not much to look at from outside but has been extended so has lots of space inside and a nice easy to maintain garden. It is close to my work and in the catchment area for a great school. Its a little further out of town than we wanted but not too bad. I'll try to put a link to the details on rightmove here.

Playingatmotherhood · 29/03/2010 13:39

Afternoon All,

Gruff - Thats terrible that your Sis is having such a tough time, hope it is better now. I did find that the nurses seemed to have less time for you in SCBU then HDU, especially when it was busy with lots of parents. However, I did spend lots of time with a specific BF counsillor, do they have one in her SCBU. E wouldn't latch (combination of flat nipples and lazy baby) so they spent hours trying to help me and in the end resorted to nipple shields to get him to latch at all. Not ideal (particularly when the gave me huge useless ones) but at least they gave me their time and something that kinda worked (well enough for E to be discharged) but in the end I gave up with the usless things and ended up expressing for 4 months. If only I had realised that some nipple shields are better than others, oh well, thats a different story.

Ses - that sounds dreadful. I hope DH is ok, I would have found it very hard to keep a straight face but maybe I am just mean!

Nat, I don't think I've said congrats on the house but yay for new furniture for it and another viewing

GBL - fantastic news on the crawling. It is a different world when they can crawl but I will say that those that learnt early seem to be (IME) the ones that are really into everything. Late crawlers like my DS are not nearly so troublesome, I think they crawl late because they don't have the same urge to get to things. Whether thats laziness or just more occupied with sitting and playing I am not sure, but I have def noticed a difference amoungst my friends kids. Oh and I like yoru fream

Rugby - Great news on the crawling and DD might be crawling (commando style) at 24 weeks. In our antenatal group one commando crawled at 5 months and 2 others were crawling by 6 months. Oh and how exciting, another wagoner moving house (well hopefully).

Hi Deige, Tinks and anyone else who is around that I've missed (as I've taken quite a while to write this in between doing other things!)

Right off to do something productive.

GruffaloSoldier · 29/03/2010 14:28

Hi all,

Yes my DS crawled at 5months and pulled himself up to standing at nearly 7 months and was walking at 9 months. He is def troublesome alright He is really trying my patience today I'm finding it really hard not to lose my temper. Oh well. DH breaks up for Easter on Wed - 20 blissful days coming my way

GBL - fantastic news on SG crawling. Cant wait to see her doing it In answer to yyour q it is the sister that was due to have an elective at end of April (was due in first week of May). Her waters broke on Friday and so the decision was made to have a csection. It was sort of elective but is actually classed as EMCS. (i think thats right) Luckily because she is private she has her own room and has 24 hour visting so her DH can be there as much as they want. i wish I had had that!!the worst part for me was when DH had to go home.

Rugby - DD sounds just GC! you have been warned! child proof now my dear!

Playing - thanks for sharing experiences. GC started out not feeding-not even formula at first. he wasn't in scbu but it took me 2 weeks to get him from bottle to breast and I too had lots of expressing to do until I finally gave up at 10 weeks old. I havent managed to speak to her but I did ask her already if there was BF support available. Its very busy time for her but she said she'll try and ring me at some point today.

Im going to buy tiny things today

NJ - Glad ikea went well!

Right I too need to do something useful now!!

tinkstoddleriswalking · 29/03/2010 16:47

hope everyone is well.
im looking forward to 3 days off will be good need to do food shop tomoro tho but at least then ill have yummy things to eat

essenceofSES · 29/03/2010 19:47

Hello!

Gruff - hope your sister has had a better day again today and that you had fun buying some tiny clothes

Playing - I had been v tempted to just laugh at DH and felt a bit guilty for that but he's fine really. I keep thinking how bad it could have been... Burns unit today have re-dressed his side and left the dressings off his hand now. He has to go back again on Friday.

Nat - sounds like Ikea trip went well then! IKWYM about motorways - once you're on it's v straight forward! I had a nightmare journey home tonight as it was raining so heavily and there was spray everywhere and most of the cars were doing 80mph+

GBL - a mobile small giraffe! There'll be no stopping her now!

MMM - hope the job is still working out well for you?

Diege - how's DS doing?

Rugby - sounds like DD may be another early crawler! Move sounds exciting. I'll look at your link later as on my phone now.

Tink - hope thrush clears up quickly for you. Sounds like you're all prepared for Easter!

Hello Cant, Star, Moos and anyone else I've missed!
