12 weeks scan tomorrow, ill be 14+5 weeks, bit scared and its not till 3pm so got to wait all day.
Who books the 20 week scan because im abit worried as some people seem to have theirs booked before having their 12 week scan and im 20 weeks in 5 weeks and as the hospital are so slow i dont want to be behind on that one aswell as ive been so messed about so far.

AbFabT · 11/04/2010 22:14

Tyson, as soon as they finished with me at my first scan, they sent me to the receptionist to book the 20-week one. If they don't, push them there and then. If they continue to lose your trust, is there another hospital you can choose to use instead? Just switch completely?

Best wishes for tomorrow! Exciting!

floozietoozie · 11/04/2010 22:48

Tyson, me too with the scan tomorrow. It's turning out to be a bit complicated, as DP normally takes ds into crèche at my workplace, and I had said tomorrow he'd need to have him in at nine so that we could get to scan for 9.30 (I start work at 6.30....). However, firstly we have builders arriving for nine, so he'd have to either leave the door open for them or get our neighbours to let them in, and secondly, he's had dodgy guts all day so isn't sure I he'll manage to take ds in anyway on the bus, so I might have to pick them both up and take ds to the scan as well. Not ideal in case there is bad news as I don't want him to see me cry, and even if it's fine he's not exactly what you'd call a patient child, so if there's lots of waiting around will be difficult. Dp said he could just take ds off somewhere while I have the scan but I want him to be there, for my sake and his. I didn't really want to tell ds until we decide to tell people generally on
case he says something by accident. I don't know how much he'll understand at this stage though.

AbFabT good luk with the pram! Jenimoo, they do say it's not a good idea to keep them in the car seat for ages but having not had an attachable one past time I'd recommend it. It's useful if the babys asleep and you don't want to wake them up or wait for them to wake and you'll have a proper pram bit you can use most of the time anyway if you get a three in one system. Having said that, I coped with a normal one!

I've felt less sick today which is nice but also worrying with not having had the scan yet..... Its ridiculous!

Tyson86 · 11/04/2010 22:55

floozie Good luck for tomorrow, my hospital doesnt allow children into the scans, does yours? Hope all goes well and your arrangements get sorted in time.

Nymphadora · 11/04/2010 23:55

Tyson good luck for tomorrow, I thought mine was late at 13 weeks. I guess they don't do nuchal there either. Have you already had a scan or is this the first?we are still waiting on twins

abfabt I either have jetlag or more energy as am v awake at the moment. Sent kids to bed early but they did 14 hours last night so hopefully they sill be somewhere near normal tomorrow

Nymphadora · 12/04/2010 00:00

floozie good luck too seem to have missed your post before

AbFabT · 12/04/2010 00:25

Yes floozie, good luck to you too!

Ooh, sleeping for 14 hours - lovely!

floozietoozie · 12/04/2010 01:18

Can't get to sleep, probably because I fell asleep
next to ds's bed for about 1.5-2 hours this evening. Have to get up at 5.30 - ouch.
tyson that hadn't even occurred to me. Guess I'll fid out tomorrow.

floozietoozie · 12/04/2010 01:26

And good luck for yours too, and all the others who have them. There's about four of us I think. I can't remember how much water I need to drink and have got confused because some of you said you didn't need full bladders, even without having the dildocam. Can remember much agony at one of my last ones.

floozietoozie · 12/04/2010 01:30

Me again. Nymph, it's my first scan- keep having this sense of foreboding on the number of beanies down there (or should that be ?). I'll know in eight hours.....

jennimoo · 12/04/2010 06:25

AbFab - I've been looking on websites and really like the grobag sleeping bags (got on on eBay for £4!) and the gro swaddle blankets (again have got one from eBay- it's like new) so it's mostly small stuff like that. I'm still trying to figure out what to do about cloth nappies: am tempted to try making them!

You can attach the car seat so for a quick trip into the shop they don't need to be disturbed, I think.

And I made appointment for my 20week at my 12 week like some other people.

Better get moving for work now!

FingonTheValiant · 12/04/2010 07:59

Morning all

Good luck floozie and tyson -fingers crossed for you both. Maybe you have the twins (please dont kill me for that if you do lol)

AbFab I'm loving looking at all the stuff, there's a distinct danger we'll be fully kitted out in about a months time and I'll have to spend another 4-5 months twiddling my thumbs! I'm planning to get a little car seat compatible chassis to keep in the car for quick trips out; we want a mountain buggy for the main one, and it'll never work for sainsburys lol.

jennimoo serious credit for even thinking about making cloth nappies! Dh really wants to do cloth nappies and he's got me convinced. I bought some second hand from www.usednappies.co.uk They look pretty much new (in fact some of them are), and cost a fraction of the price of new ones, plus it's even more environmentally friendly, so I'm feeling very virtuous. Although I may end up using the money I saved to buy some of those really gorgeous ones later on

Nymph I hope with your extra energy you can make the most of children sleeping for 14 hours, that's pretty spectacular!

Also, I'm very tempted by those Amby baby hammock things www.amby.co.uk/ Has anyone ever used one? The reviews seem great, but it's very expensive, and only lasts for 12 months max. Any input gratefully received

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 12/04/2010 08:35

Floozie-good luck today! Hope it goes well

fingon-feels like ages, hope you're feeling good!

I've still got loads of baby bits as ds is only 17mths, so trying not to buy more. We had the jane matrix cup-it's a lie flat/upright car seat that clips into the pram base. As you are only meant to have them sat upriht for 1.5-2hrs and we lived 5hrs (on an elusive clear run) from everyone it was brillient.

Now have a maxi cosi car seat and love it. I think the baby seats fit alot of pram bases and isofix?

Trying really hard not to care what sex bump is. Getting v shirty with dh if he even mentions "she" or "her". I know it will be a boy- v lovely but even the dog's male!

Have a trial in an office today- that job I didn't get has recalled me. So nervous, it's just answering phones/excel stuff etc but I wish i was being chucked into an ops theatre instead

Elsa123 · 12/04/2010 09:05

Good luck Seashells with the trial and to all those with scans today!

Abfab- yes it is pants only seeing my DH at weekends and its not our choosing- its the way things have been done work wise, but he's moving next month, so we should be together until my Oct when I will move to our weekend home as the rent on the place so we can be together during the week isn't too bad, but will be an unecessary expense when I'm trying to save up for the last 6 months of maternity leave when I will take a ridiculous pay drop! But at that point, he should be able to get the train home once during the week as well, so I should see him Friday, Sat, Sun, Weds. Therefore, his opinion on what type of nappies we should use, or particular care techniques is not so valid as he won't be doing the bulk of the work!

I have bought absolutely nothing and haven't even got maternity clothes yet. I'm currently looking at wardrobe door handles and turf for the garden .

DillyDora · 12/04/2010 09:11

Hey All and lovely to read your posts. I haven't bought anything yet, and am really planning to beg, borrow or steal most stuff if I can. Planning to start of w moses basket so we can have bub in our room for breastfeeding ease. I think if she was a summer baby it would be different but I have this horror of feeding her in a cold room at night, that doesn't seem right at all. We don't have much leeway in the budget and I am just so conscious of all the costs, especially as we'll need to move house again. However, worrying about money is my speciality so ... don't pay me too much attention

Hope you have sunshine where you are today!

Hi tiny if you're reading, how are you doing today? Results tomorrow right?

xx

ILoveGregoryHouse · 12/04/2010 09:13

Morning all. Just back from my scan. It was great! (S)he was having a party in there. NT measurement was 1.4, nasal bone present, five fingers. I cried. Got some lovely pics and a video! I think it's a girl. Doc said she thought 75%chance a girl. But we don't mind at all, of course. Doc said no need to go for cvs or amnio at the mo but we'll wait for my bloods to come back in 2-3 weeks (can't get anything like this done quickly in the middle east, bloods need to go to France or the UK) before final decision.

Having a very sicky day. Feel just dreadful. Worried that I've picked up a touch of food poisoning as went out for my birthday last night and I had sushi and medium rare steak. Oops. Or maybe it's just a bad day for the nausea.

Re prams and care seats, I've had a Jane pram and Rebel car seat, a Quinny Buzz and a Bugaboo with Maxi Cosi car seat. Bugaboo is the current model and we'll be keeping it as DH says no more prams. Have to say, I liked the Jane best of all but a good combo is the bugaboo and maxi cosi seat cos they can lie flat in the bugaboo and you can also have a quinny zapp frame to put the car seat on if you're put for a quick trip. Sorry, am rambling.

Am also very fond of reusable nappies if anyone wants to chat about them!

FingonTheValiant · 12/04/2010 09:17

Hi seashells I'm good thanks, internet's a bit elusive as I'm still staying with the in-laws in Marseille - at least there's sunshine! How are you getting along? Great news about the recall, good luck with that! We might splash out on an extra lie-flat carseat as the 14ish hour drive from London to Marseille definitely exceeds carseat guidelines. Even I tend to recline my seat as far as possible when not driving to be comfy for it.

Elsa I do not have the energy to do any type of gardening, let alone returf!

I've had maternity clothes for ages, due to an enormously expanded chest, but it's become apparent that I need more, as a rapidly expanding waist means that nothing else fits anymore

Dh gets to decide nappies as I fully intend to make him change as many as is physically possible

DillyDora · 12/04/2010 09:23

Ilove congrats on that mega scan! I'm in the wrong country! All I got was a surly sonographer telling me off for calling the baby 'she'! Sounds totally tops so yay!

So envious of everyone outside the uk, been living back here since 2000 and that's a loooong time to be in one country!

x

FingonTheValiant · 12/04/2010 09:25

ILoveGH, congratulations on the scan, that's brilliant news. Sorry you're feeling ill though. I had a medium rare burger recently and felt ill afterwards, but only after I realised that I'd eaten m-r meat and wasn't supposed to, so I think it was psychological. Rubbish if it's food poisoning though, hope you feel better soon.

I was planning on a maxi cosi and then buying a second-hand Zapp as my car run about. I also heard that they lie a wee bit flatter than some other car seats, is that true?

What are your nappy recommendations? I have mainly motherease Sandy's so far, but have room for a few more if you can persuade me

Hello Dilly I hadn't thought much about the cold aspect, but being naturally lazy I've already decided it's best to have the baby in the same room for feeding to start with You can get second hand cribs very cheaply on ebay too, especially if you can find one close to you and avoid postage.

Hermya321 · 12/04/2010 10:23

IlGH Great news on the scan, I quite like the quinny buzz and I'll be trying to get hold of a second hand one. Is it good to have more than one pram? When I've been looking on the boards people seem to end up having more than one for some reason. Great news on the scan as well!

fingon Me and Dh are probably going to go down that route as you with reusables. They seem a bit more sensible (plus very cute). Mind you I used to babysit for a lollipop advisor in my younger days, I think she may have got to me as my opinion on brands was forming.

AbFabT · 12/04/2010 10:52

Fingon, those hammocks look great! Yet more research for me!!!
I'm also looking into co-sleeping.

SeaShells and ILGH, thanks for the personal recommendations on car seats.

We don't mind at all what gender the baby is, both DH and I are veering towards just 'feeling' it is a boy, but I can't think where that has come from.

Good luck with the office work.

Oh Elsa, I just don't know how you cope. I would miss my DH like crazy!

Dilly, we are hoping to get a few hand-me-downs too, hard to tell what to buy yet in case someone suddently offers us something, so at this stage, it's just research, so if by eight months we have nothing, we are at least ready to buy.
We're being pretty frugal, but things like car-seats I am happy to spend a lot on if it's the safest/best one.

ILGH, you got a video?! Wow! I didn't get a video - is this standard?! How can you tell at this stage if it's a girl?
And ooh, happy birthday for yesterday!

And yes - I am researching re-usable nappies too, think that's the route we are going to go down.
Chat away please!

shieldbug · 12/04/2010 10:53

well done on the sacn IlGH, having a video is amazing. Mind you, since for most of my scans (more about that anon) sproglet was lying still (probably asleep), there wouldn't have been much point!

tiny good luck with results. Hope you get some encouraging news soon.

I have been in and out of scan units like crazy the last few days. Latest news is that I was in A and E on Saturday night (never a good idea) with a high temperature, trying deperately to be seen by the one gynae Dr on duty. Hours later I was eventually seen, given yet another scan (yippee, sproglet did somersaults for this one- think we've got a night owl) and had a swab taken (not v nice). I'm meant to work no more than 2-3 hours a day (not a good thing to tell a workaholic 3rd year PhD student) and get bed rest the rest of the day until they work out what is wrong. Don't think it's anything to worry too much about, but wish I could get my temperature down (paracetamol not working v well right now).

Needless to say, I haven't really thought about baby equipment just yet, but I am following your discussions with interest for future decisions

Good luck to all with scans this week.

Elsa123 · 12/04/2010 11:10

Ooh shieldbug, that doesn't sound nice. Drink plenty of water to help flush your system- perhaps whilst permanently camped in the bathroom?!

Congrats ILGH! What a nice sonographer.

You're all talking total gobbledygook about prams etc! Bugaboo?? Jane? Hammocks???

Fingon- my energy is good right now, after a total exhausted dip on Saturday, I'm bouncing back. However, I have absolutely no plans to turf the garden and am looking for it to be done for me!!

Abfabt you get used to it- I do miss him- daily. Oh well.

shieldbug · 12/04/2010 11:25

elsa good advice- the dr said something similar, so you've just reminded me of it. Ta. Hope your increase in energy levels increase- I'm still at the exhausted stage.

Well back home to bed now (boo).

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 12/04/2010 11:34

Elsa- get googling!! Kiddicare website v good. Dh and used to laugh we spent more time choosing prams than buying a car/deciding to get pregnant you will soon be anexpert!

Ilgh- wow fab scan, v lucky to get video

fingon-what fab place to have il's mind you I think English south coast is just as hot today!

Shieldbug, glad bump was doing well during scan, hope you are feeling better. What is your phd in? Dh finished his last summer- can really recommend you get yours finished before bump =baby, he had a nightmare trying to finish (though so did all our friends doing phds, seems to be part of te remit)
