seashells I would frankly prefer the south coast, travelling down here is always horrendous!

shieldbug sorry to hear you're not well, high temperature is rubbish, and paracetamol rarely works in my experience! Glad the scans are all looking positive though, that must be a huge relief!

Elsa you have destroyed all my images of the pregnant woman valiantly laying sod despite a huge bump, to the horror/admiration of the neighbours... much more sensible to get someone else to do it though Hope your energy stays up, it's exhausting ferrying tea and biscuits to the gardener ;)

Impressed by the number of us considering cloth nappies, I wonder how many of us will live to regret it

Sorry, I've gone smiley mad today

DillyDora · 12/04/2010 13:43

shieldbug you had a Saturday Night Fever! yeah, ok, not funny really what's wrong? Do you have a UTI? Take care, please! Lots of laying about the place like a Victorian lady, with a cool cloth on your forehead.

Yep, we're up for cloth nappies. I also wonder if they will reduce the possibility of skin problems, DH & I have eczema so we want to go as natural as possible and I always wonder a bit about if the synthetic ones are a bit...synthetic!

Good point about the research AbFab, I should really pay attention DH is quite good about all this practical stuff (well, apart from wanting to buy a huge rocking horse, which I totally understand but we have no space for...)

Uh oh...might be nap time...zzzzzzz
x

Thank you for the advice Seashells, I will get googling- not this week though, got another essay to write, so WILL concentrate on that. I've just done a tonne of work admin including sorting out maternity uniform (I work in a place with uniforms). Wierdly, the measurements are done on your pre-pregnancy bust size....including the trousers . They take a week to come through, and I have agreed with them that I can try them first. The shirts are awful hard collared tent things and the dresses an attractive sparky nylon. I had a choice of a combo of 4 dresses and shirt with one pair of trousers if I opted for the shirts and a wooly cardigan. I've gone for 2 dresses and 2 shirts, but will try to wear the normal blouses as they are flat collared and I have a short body, so hopefully I can get away with it. I'm not looking forward to having to wear them and feel faintly embarrassed about it all. I am the only lady in my area and am not looking forward to being the only lady AND obviously pregnant. Oh well!

Fingon- The pregnant lady is building a house, so you can hold onto your valiant imagery! Hopefully we'll have all the carpets in upstairs in May. Can't wait!

DillyDora · 12/04/2010 15:58

LOL Elsa about measuring the trousers against your bust size!!!!!!! Building a house? Crikey! And good luck with the essay - what's it on?

Elsa123 · 12/04/2010 16:02

A critical analysis of 4 qualitative analysis academic papers. Dead interesting.

DillyDora · 12/04/2010 16:09

Elsa sounds like the stuff I set for my students - thrilling Is it postgrad? Hope you'll be finished before the baby comes!

ILoveGregoryHouse · 12/04/2010 16:25

AbFab, the scan was a private one as we're in the Middle East, so no NHS for this pregnancy (which has it's good and bad points). The ob-gyn who did the scan was lovely and said that, although it's too early to tell definitively, as the genitals look the same at this point, the direction of the line at the appropriate region can indicate a boy or girl. It was horizontal rather than vertical. Also, as am very old, am more likely to be having a girl - apparently the female follicles last longer. Of course, it's just chance right now, but she's a pretty experienced doc so am hopeful she's right as DS2 will be over the moon with a sister.

Re nappies, I've got loads of motherease with airflow and some tots bots wraps and they are definitely the best especially for night time with a couple of extra stuffers. I also have a few bumgenius and blueberry pocket nappies that are great for the day. The blueberries are expensive at around £18 each but they look gorgeous and last ages and they'll be on their second baby (the motherease and bumgenius on their third outing) so on a cost for wear basis, am saving quite a bit of money. DS3's first nappy was an orange velour blueberry and the midwife said she wanted to have another baby juts so she could put a nappy like that on him. Aw. Kittykins is a good site for nappies and the real nappy message board on mn is, of course, really helpful.

On the studying front, I've got an A level Biology to cram between now and baby - leaving myself revision time for the AS in January and the A2 in July 2011. Or, if I feel really brave, may do AS and A2 in January. Eek.

Shieldbug hope you're better soon and good luck with the results tiny.

BUnderTheBonnet · 12/04/2010 16:39

Hi everyone.
Bad news - I had a miscarriage while I was in France last week. All a bit traumatic with a helicopter transfer to hospital and an emergency operation. Totally gutted.

DillyDora · 12/04/2010 16:46

ILGH you've cheered me up there about the age and baby girl thing!!! Oooh yes! Also loving the nappy names! I have never heard of these things but they sound so cute. And now I have looked them up on the internet and am in paroxysms of 'omigod how cuuuuuute!'ness! Lovely and so much nicer than data analysis (showing off now cos everyone else is getting new qualies and I got thrown out of sciences at school...all of them....ahem...)

ILoveGregoryHouse · 12/04/2010 16:47

BUTB, how awful, dreadful and sad. Are you home now? How are things?

Nymphadora · 12/04/2010 16:49

bunder am so sorry , were you on holiday too?

DillyDora · 12/04/2010 16:50

argh! Cross posted.

BundertheB I'm so so sorry. How are you doing now? Hope you're ok as much as you can be.

KSal · 12/04/2010 17:27

BUTB so sorry. Look after yourself

AbFabT · 12/04/2010 18:06

BUnderTheBonnet, so very sorry to hear your sad news. My thoughts are with you. x

Hermya321 · 12/04/2010 18:37

Blunder I'm so sorry to hear your news, I hope you're ok as you can be at this point. Look after yourself.

Bit of a random question, I've been getting some sharp pains across my lower abdomen, is this just my uterus and tummy expanding? Should I be worried at all? I can still feel LO fluttering around in there occasionally.

floozietoozie · 12/04/2010 18:51

BUnderthebonnet I'm so sorry about your news. To be away from home must have made it even worse. I hope you are recovering as well as can be expected and that things go well in the future with ttc if you try again. X

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 12/04/2010 18:52

butb so sorry to hear your news, it's sounds terrible. I really hope you are on the mend. Fuck mcs are far too common- and in rl not given the care they deserve. Thinking of you x

Tyson86 · 12/04/2010 18:57

BUnderthebonnet so sorry for you, hoping you are getting well looked after x

floozie how did your scan go and anyone else having theirs?

My scan went well, one baby and is fine although i lost a couple of days but not changing it as sonographer was rubbish, she didnt let me see the screen so had a good cry when i got home and the pics are rubbish and of the back of the head. Going private for the second time in just over a week to find out the sex and actually see my baby.

Nymphadora · 12/04/2010 19:04

Tyson didn't let you see? That's crap, when I had my one at 8 weeks I had my own screen& they let me watch even when they were checking there was a baby!

I have my scan on weds is anyone else left?

BUnderTheBonnet · 12/04/2010 19:11

Thanks everyone. Yes I was on holiday, and it was pants not really being able to understand what doctors were saying and everything. Bleeding has pretty much stopped now, but I'm totally wiped (blood loss etc). Will pick myself up soon for trying again.

Vikks · 12/04/2010 19:20

BUnderTheBonnet So sorry to hear of your loss. Thinking of you.....x

floozietoozie · 12/04/2010 19:54

I didn't want to put this on the same post and apologies BUB if it seems insensitive but I had my scan this morning and there's a fluttery little baby in there! Just one. THANK GOD. had tears seeing it moving around on the screen. The date has gone back to my original one of 29th Oct. When I saw the midwife she said I will have regular scans after the 20 week one because of ds being prem. So I'm consultant led but my community midwife did say if I got to 37 weeks then I could change that if I wanted.

ILGH glad yours went well too.

floozietoozie · 12/04/2010 19:58

X-posts Tyson, glad yours ok but sorry sonographer was so rubbish. Mine was lovely. I've also got a 4cm cyst on my ovary but I knew I had one, it's just grown a bit since last time I was scanned.

NinthWave · 12/04/2010 20:01

BUnderthebonnet I'm so sorry to see your news. I hope you are as OK as you can be; I had a very traumatic MC last September (lost 1.5 litres of blood, emergency op, etc) so I have lots of empathy for you. Take good care X

I've been away for two weekends on the trot so haven't posted for ages. Good to see lots of scans, can't believe we have some 20-week scans coming up in less than a month!

Has anyone seen this from the NHS website: Pregnancy Desktop? I clicked a link over there -> and just installed it - it's got tons of useful info and a rather nifty 'your pregnancy this week' thing.

I've really got a bump now - when I lie down I can feel my uterus pressing up under my belly button. It's giving me some strange nostalgic flashbacks to my pregnancy with my DS! Have also been feeling 'flicks and flutters' which I'm pretty sure is the baby. All very exciting.

I've decided it's a boy, despite my 2.8yo DS telling me it's a tractor

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 12/04/2010 20:06

butb if you lost alot of blood get your gp to prescribe iron tablets- it will help any anaemia and make you feel much better physically.

Congrats floozie! Hope the next scan is better.

Job today was ok-v steep learning curve
