Morning all!

Not sure how I'm doing it but have slept better in the heat than I was doing before. May have been helped by pregnancy yoga last Thursday as I actually fell asleep during the relaxation bit at the end. Didn't quite have to get woken up and told to leave but I think it was a close thing. Just hope I didn't snore too loudly

My tip for keeping cool came from a friend last week. Freeze lemon or lime juice in ice-cube trays (something all the 2nd/3rd/4th timers should have lots of!!) and use along with normal ice-cubes in BIG glasses of water. As I really don't like fizzy drinks and am fussy about squash I try and drink a lot of water but usually fail as I get bored! This has upped my intake dramatically.

Tex - don't envy you having different advice from all sides about the birth. Like most things to do with this child-birth lark people think that they have the right to express an opinion whether you want it or not!
I think there is loads of stuff on here about vaginal births after c-section and about 2nd c-sections. Maybe a trawl round the achives at some point would help.

23 weeks
8 and a bit sheets and over 1 stone heavier than when I started this carry-on

Thought id post a few links in relation to the sure start maternity grant, who can claim it and how to tell if you get child tax credit above the family element

Afternoon everyone, hope no-one's melted yet.

Rodeo - the home mainly takes in cats and dogs, but they also have rabbits and guinea pigs. I'm planning on going there a couple of afternoons a week to sit in with the cats and dogs, just to keep them used to human company.

I'm bound to get a lot of disagreement to this, but I was advised that drinking/eating icy cold things is not good for the digestion, and should be avoided, particularly if you're suffering from sickness. I've managed to stick to this so far and def. feel better for it.

tessasmum · 14/07/2005 13:59

Thanks for the links Busy. Our situation has changed quite dramatically in the past month - DH has gone self-employed - so we need to check out some of this, your links have reminded me that I need to do something about it!

Nova - I think you should do whatever works for you regardless of what others say! You will get far more than your fair share of "advice" throughout this whole pregnancy/birth/child-rearing process.
And my advice on the advice is use what you feel is right for you and politely ignore what you think is c*

tessasmum · 14/07/2005 14:00

Why do I only get 1* when I put 3 in?!

babyonboard · 14/07/2005 15:09

my dp is always saying that icy cold drinks only make you hoter, as your body heats itself up to counteract the cold..
I can't see it though..i'd be dying without my icy smoothies and half frozen water at the moment..
can't wait for the scan...the day is going so slowly! i'll be out of the door as soon as dp gets home..he he..and probably end up there an hour early..
tex11- congrats on your scan! i can't wait to find out the sex, but knowing my luck it will be facing the wrong way or something..he he

ChaCha · 14/07/2005 15:20

Hey everyone!

Scan was fab! Baby was moving around the whole time. Everything is in place and looking good. Sonographer said peanut is very cute and photogenic..had my first 'proud mum' moment! Think i even blushed [blushed]

Found out the sex!!!!! Almost passed out..it's a little boy!! I'm so glad that i did now as i really had pictured a little girl and have been looking at dresses in all the shops I'm a real girlie girl you see and so could not imagine having a son! He was flashing his bits at every given opportunity, sonographer commented about him not being a shy one! DH gave a big smile of course.. Awww...I feel so happy today, my parents are thrilled but think my father in law was really hoping for a grandaughter as he's had a couple of sons and grandson (who is now in his teens)..Oh well..
I think i better go as i'm very excited and could talk baby stuff all day...

Lemon/Lime juice in ice cube trays is a fab idea! I want to try out. I use Asda's ice cube bags so will buy some of the proper trays and give it a go...I'm back on the coke today!

ChaCha · 14/07/2005 21:26

Did i post on the wrong thread?

That was 6 hours ago!!!!!!!!! Where are you all? [sulking big time]

tessasmum · 14/07/2005 21:52

Never mind ChaCha, I disappeared too and just came on prepared to spend 20 minutes catching up and where are they all?? It goes berserk for 2 days then everyone runs away

Fell asleep in yoga again tonight! Had to be woken up by tutor this time

Well, if no-one's around I'm off for more lemon ice-cubes. Night night!

alfiesmum · 14/07/2005 22:06

Congratulations chacha, a boy! fantastic news

my scan wasn't as exciting, as it was an internal only got to see my cervix and top of babys head! all is well though, but couldn't confirm the sex obviously!

KristinaM · 14/07/2005 22:14

Oh chacha, don?t feel upset. Its teatime & bedtime for those of us with kids?....we?re not ignoring you, honest. So pleased to hear that your scan went well and indeed I?m sure your baby son is absolutely beautiful! I can recommend boys ? although I have one of each so far (and a step son and daughter) my peanut is a boy too and I?m delighted. So have you chosen your name/s yet?

Tessa mum ? I think you have to put the asterix in between letters ? so you need to type c**p IYSWIM!!

Nova ? the animal home sounds like a lovely idea. Just remember to stay away from cat poo!!

Rodeo ? don?t you dare leave!!! Although my official due date is 23 November, I know I am actually 5 days behind that AND my last baby was very ?late?, so I don?t expect to have him til early December. But I have no intentions of leaving.

Beksmum ? you were worried about people ignoring Ben and only bringing a gift for the new baby. I was pleasantly surprised by how infrequently this occurred last time. We had a 4yo DD when Ds1 was born and almost everyone who came to visit also brought her something. Even if it was just a packet of sweets or some felt tips pens she was perfectly happy. It worked out really well. I tried not to open gifts for the baby in front of her, whenever possible.

Like the baby doll idea for boys, though not sure that action man will be ok to practice changing nappies. Because I breast fed Ds, DD used to sit on the sofa beside me with Baby Annabelle clutched to her bare chest. It was SOOOOO cute! Amazing how many people thought this was weird, although had no problems with her giving Baby Annabelle a bottle! Interesting how many Dh have a problem with dolls for 2yo boys ? if they had older sisters they would get to play with these things if they wanted and dads wouldn?t turn a hair.

Tex ? so glad cupcake is doing well. Have you got a name for her yet? Big dilemma about the birth- you will get lots of experiences here on mumsnet, although, be warned, some folks tend to get very worked up about this topic and can be a bit extreme in their comments (not on this nice thread of course). And pppuuulleasse, don?t mention the futon mattresses. I was really grossed out by that side of childbirth and am trying to forget about it all?..

Rodeo ? aren?t you having a super sized baby as well??? What have you decided to do? I?m worried about the size of DS2 ? last baby was only 8lb5oz but I?m quite a small build and had a lot of problems squeezing him out. Ended up with an instrumental delivery and lots of stitches. Pretty sure I could ask for a Cs this time ( coz of my advanced age ) but worried about the recovery afterwards with DS1 only 18 months.

TBH I?m not very brave about all this stuff and just want to get the baby out so it?s safe for him and with least damage to me. I have no ideological attachment to either method of delivery ? don?t need to feel in control of the process or be a natural woman or fulfil my destiny blah blah ( tho cool if that works for you) . Basically I?m just a wimp??..give me the drugs anyday.....

KristinaM · 14/07/2005 22:16

sorry Alfiesmum - missed your post. Was your scan Ok - I hate the internal ones? Everything in oredr? Do you want to know the sex?

babyonboard · 14/07/2005 23:07

hi chacha - congratulations!
same for me - baby was moving around so much it caused trouble for the sonographer
we are also having a boy!
dp let out the loudest gasp ever..we are both so happy
off to gaze at my pics a little more...

Busyalexsmummy · 15/07/2005 07:13

im also worried about the size of this baby, im only 5ft2 and not that a big a frame, and ds was 8lb 13 1/2oz! and i had a hard enough job trying to get him out!
i feel better that their going to moniter me closer and do growth scans, scarily though the consultant said they'd leave me to go as far as 8th dec!!

ChaCha · 15/07/2005 08:03

Glad to see some response around here!!!

BEKsmum · 15/07/2005 09:48

Morning girls, Chacha & BOB ahhh congratulations little boys how lovely, can definitely recommend them, they are great and their toys are more interesting too.

Alfiesmum, glad everything was ok for you too.

Kristina thanks for that, it has made me feel better, as I still find Ben so precious & hate the thought of him being pushed out.

Twinkle hope your BP has started to rise to a better level and that it evens out for you.

Had a girls night in at a friends house last night, laughed so hard I think I kept bump awake, I'm sure it will make me pay for getting in at 1:30am, Ben certainly has, as he got up at 7am which is about an hour earlier than normal!

Had a real result yesterday went to Costco and managed to get my buggy for £100.00, they are £169.00 in Mothercare, even nicer though was that my parents bought it for bump so I actually saved the whole amount!

Right better go speak to you all later. Beks 22+5

tessasmum · 15/07/2005 10:04

Morning all!

Wow 2 more boys! Must admit that Tex's comment a while ago about knowing that there was a tiny baby with a tiny willy growing inside her made me laugh so much I almost changed my mind about finding out the sex But as they don't tell you here anyway it would be too much of an effort (and cost) and I really do like surprises and feel I will deserve that one after all the work to get this one out.

Looks like big babies maybe part of this thread as I was told mine was slightly big for dates at last GP's appointment. However I'm 5'10" (with big feet) and didn't have too much trouble with a 8lb 4oz one last time. Some tearing but she came out under her own steam though I have blotted out the bit about the head crowning

Off swimming now, hopefully in the outdoor pool!

Busyalexsmummy · 15/07/2005 10:07

i cant beleive what just happened, im sat here shaking
and crying because i cant beleive i was so stupid, i
went downstairs(top floor flat) to get the washing in
off the line and the windows were ajar in the living
room, anyhow, i came back upstairs 2 minutes later to
find alex stood up at the window, he managed to get up
onto the windowsill and was stood with the window wide
open, i couldnt beleive it. i cant beleive i didnt
think about it before opening those windows.
stupid stupid stupid

novadandypowder · 15/07/2005 10:21

Busy, all i can offer is sympathy and the probably not very helpful notion, that at least nothing bad happened and you now know that he can reach windowsills so you'll be able to be prepared next time. You did nothing wrong, and no-one was hurt xxxx

Busyalexsmummy · 15/07/2005 10:23
Sad
novadandypowder · 15/07/2005 10:25

please try not to torture yourself with 'what if's'

novadandypowder · 15/07/2005 10:29

sorry, off to mw appointment now, hope you are ok xx

CADS · 15/07/2005 11:09

Busy - I can imagine your horror, as nova said try not to think of the what if. I'll have to keep a better eye on ds. He is also into climbing and mischief at the moment. He is also completely fearless which scares me. On a better note, I saw your photos, alex is adorable. I can't get over his gorgeous blue eyes. Does he get his looks from mommy?

Chacha, Babyonboard, Alfiesmum - congrats on your scans. More boys - how many is that? Love boys to bits, always have.

KristinaM - Did you also have a scan yesterday? Did I miss your post?

Right on to my scan - everything as should be but have to admit that curiosity got the better of me and i caved. We are having a ...... GIRL. After noticing a lot of boys poping up on this thread, I told dh that we were the ones that we going to have a girl, after all someone has too. I'm actually NOT disappointed to know, and am now looking forward to meeting my little girl and it is nice to be able to tell ds that his going to have a sister.

Still determined to have more boys, so dh has been told to get another job so we can afford my child.

Shall we post our flavours on our stats thread?

Who else is still due to have scans? Beks, when is your again?

Rodeo - Have you gone awol?

Take care

twinkle1 · 15/07/2005 11:51

busy don't beat yourself up.These things happen. No matter how safe you think you are kids will always find something to do to frighten the life out of you!!my best friends toddler just climbed three sets of units up to 6ft+ high and ate a box of blue miracle grow!!!! cos it looked like sherbert he is fine after the trip to a&e, did point out to her that he may now grow like a weed though. When my ds was 2yrs old he opened the freezer door and sat with his back against the door and froze himself to it, i was mortified luckily it did not cause any lasting damage and i bought a freezer lockno matter what u do they can always find trouble.try and relax and chalk it up to experience.
