OMG Chulita how terrible/hilarious is that, bit of a nightmare for the poor girl. Fortunately(?) the ladies in my family have a history of taking hours to give birth so don't think any danger of that happening to me (oh no i've just jinxed myself haven't I?!!)

Wonderstuff yes also wondering how the feeding works with a toddler demanding attention too. Think the TV may get a lot more use come July . A lot of my friends with 2 say the littlun gets a lot more ignored than the first one did as the toddler is more canny at making sure you attend to them!

Going to a wedding tomorrow and haven't checked that my dress fits since i bought it after xmas...I guess its a bit late if not

WinterMadness · 12/02/2010 18:40

I'm pretty sure I'm not going to breastfeed this time. Hope nobody judges me for that but it was very traumatic with ds as he thrashed about and screamed - the older he got the worse he got. I also suffered with PND so the decision to stop at 17 weeks was one of the hardest I ever made. I don't think I can mentally put myself through that again. So rather than beat myself up I've just come to terms with the fact that I will simply bottle feed and ignore what others think of that decision!

Had a shitty day. Can't be arsed to cook so shoved pizza and chips in for dh. I can't be bothered to eat. He's going out tonight Would love to drown my sorrows but can't. Feeling very sorry for myself!

kittykat77 · 12/02/2010 19:10

Evening everyone.

winter I BF DD for about 6 weeks and it was a nightmare. DS was BF for about 24 hrs - think like you I had been well and truely put off by bad experience of 1st baby! Will probably have a go at BF this one, but like you say am really not going to worry too much if it doesn't work out. I guess a stressout and unhappy mum isn't much good to anyone. And on the plus side at least DH can help with the night feeds if we do swop to a bottle

Not much else to report - can't believe the 20 week scans have started already! Still another 3 weeks until mine (when I will actually be 21 weeks!)

WHat's everyone else up to this weekend? DH is working tomorrow and the kids have parties to go to, so I feel like a taxi driver!

That's exciting WSS. can't wait for my scan next week.
flexab I live in South Woodford, E18 on the Central Line.
Have to say getting the tube into work is starting to get a nightmare. I can usually get a seat but today it was busy and I know I should have just asked for a seat but I was embarrassed to ask. I get feint if I stand for too long. I get very hot on the tube so I had taken my coat off and I have a very obvious bump now and not one F...er offered me a seat!
There is absolutely no chivalry on the Uunderground or maybe in this country?? I will have to start asking for seat.

stac14 · 12/02/2010 20:50

Hi ladies

lmao chulita at that clip, poor woman though bugger being on the news like that lol

orange did you try the dress? I'm sure you will be fine hun

Welcome to the thread jo I am having my second too and cant wait till the 1st march for my scan lol

winter I didnt BF Ds, I was only 19 and didnt feel able to cope with the demands of it. He was also a hungry baby so I think the decision to use formula was the best at the time. Also like you I had PND and have a fear of getting it again so I have decided this lo will be bottle fed too, more incase I do become ill. I think its a personal decision to breast feed or bottle feed and one none of us takes lightly. Hope your feeling better soon, its crap when you have down days eh?

I agrees with what you say kittykat better to have a more calm relaxed mum, than one whos shattered and frazzled by it all. I will be nearly 21 weeks when I get my scan too, cant wait lol

Welcome back casper how have you been? Seems like we are back to waiting for scans again lol

OP posts:
Chulita · 12/02/2010 20:55

wonder, you have to do what's best for both of you and not feel guilty about it. You tried with you DS and did really well to get to 17 weeks.
BFing can be fricking hard and no one warns you about that, DD and I passed thrush back and forth to each other, I got mastitis a coupla times and always had blocked ducts. Took us 8 weeks for me to bf without crying with pain but then we managed ok til DD wanted to wean herself and I had to face the fact that she didn't want to rely on me for that anymore...ai! Hormones are a bugger!
kapars, just ask - better than waking up under someone's legs!

stac14 · 12/02/2010 21:32

people are so rude kapars, chulita is right just ask, the worse the f**ckers can say is no

viksam · 12/02/2010 21:51

Hi,
Whats PND?? I really want to BF but now im a bit scared coz of all ur experiences.
I dont think anyone has the right to judge what ever ur decision.
Off to Brum for the weekend, massive Mamas&Papas, Selfridges, H&M.......proper shops hurrah!!! Gona be broke when I get home.
Have a good weekend everyone.
xx

Chulita · 12/02/2010 22:02

viksam, it's Post Natal Depression.
BFing really is worth it. We managed 11 months before DD decided she wanted to move on. It's just not always as easy as sticking the baby on and off you go (it is once you get the hang of it) so I wish someone had warned me that it can be very painful at the start but it's worth persevering. I'm definitely going to BF this next if I can! And everyone's experience is different, just like pregnancy/labour - give it a go if you want to cos once you and your baby have worked out the niggles it's lovely to be able to feed your little one whenever they want it (and it's great for getting them to sleep )

WinterMadness · 12/02/2010 22:04

Post natal depression viksam. Horrid, horrid, horrid.

Please don't be put off by my experience, ds was just a nightmare. If I felt more confident about things and not so scared about getting PND again I'd try again, I just don't think I can. But we'll see, never say never.

DH just phoned to say he's lost his wallet. Topped off my day nicely.

Emster30 · 12/02/2010 22:20

Wonder I didn't get the folder at my booking in, the midwife had run out. She said I could get one next time but of course I haven't seen a midwife since then! Am meeting mine on Monday though for my 16 week appointment, a week late. I did get an Emma's Diary when I first saw the nurse but it was the 2004 edition...

WSS congrats on the scan!

Kapars I'm in Walthamstow! We're practically neighbours! I have to recommend the Vic line over the Central line for seats, I always get one in the morning as it's the start of the line. I would ask for one if you need it. I have a baby on board badge which has worked a few times but more often than not people just don't notice it. Yesterday morning I was going to work on the tube with a (non-PG) friend who had stayed the night with me, and there was a girl standing up just by us (I was sitting in the priority seat at the end). I was trying to work out if she was pregnant and if so would have asked if she needed a seat (my friend would have jumped up!), but it was just too difficult to tell. Then after a station she moved along a bit and someone offered her a seat, and only at that point did I notice the baby on board badge on her bag. I felt bad but never mind!

I just ate some chocolate ice cream and the baby is kicking like mad! It's got so much stronger over the course of the week since I first felt it.

Wonderstuff · 12/02/2010 22:30

I was worried about bfing my first. My mum had PND with me and had a disaster trying to bfeed and she was aderment that I shouldn't feel I had to bfeed. I decided to try and take each day as it came, I hoped that I could get to 6 weeks and although it was difficult to get dd to latch properly in the first few weeks (she would close her mouth too quickly and made my nips really sore) but I am so glad I persevered, because after the first few weeks it became much easier and I could feed her whenever, she didn't sleep well and being able to bfeed at night without getting out of bed saved my sanity.
It can feel really daunting having to do all the feeds, I can totally understand people not wanting to go there. I do think it made it a bit harder for me to get dh to pull his weight, I could settle the baby really easily and he really took a back seat which I found really hard. He is a star now and I think things will be better in the first few months this time now he is more confident. I plan to get him to do an evening feed, either with ebm or ff, with dd he decided that it was too hard to give her a bottle and I was better at it, which meant that she didn't get a bottle because what was the point of expressing just to give her the bottle anyway? Of course then she simply wouldn't take a bottle at all when we tried later and that wasn't as much of a problem as I thought it would be but I would like to be able to mixfeed this one. - Sorry for really long post. It is a complex decision and I think the best decision is the one that works best for you and your family. My primary motive for breastfeeding is that it will make my life easier.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. I'm off to Devon tomorrow to see sil which should be good.

berberis · 12/02/2010 22:52

Hello, haven't posted on this new thread yet so just bookmarking my place too.

Haven't been on for a while, things pretty hectic then have been feeling a bit blue last few days. About 2 weeks ago I was feeling lots of movement, but haven't felt anything for a bit. But I am getting much bigger and those who've had babies say it's normal for fluttering etc to come and go. Also we're going on skiing holiday next week, am really dreading it, cannot decide whether to cross country ski or just snowshoe or just sit in hotel and read. I wish I could have had midwife check before to say everything is ok! Have been feeling pretty symptomless too - thought miserable mood is probably hormones isn't it? Anyway, trying not to worry and bump does seem to be growing by the day so that must be good.

Congrats WSS on finding out about 90% girl!

randomama · 12/02/2010 23:06

i would also recommend BFing viksam although I defo had a much easier time than some of the other posters here. But yes I'm very pro breastfeeding for the simple reason you get all the food your baby has for its first 6 months (or however long the HVs decide it's supposed to be these days) for FREE!!! there's also no washing up and it's totally portable. this time I will be expressing and inviting DP to do a daily bottle but I have to say i LOVED bfing DS and ended up doing it til he was 2!

baby is moving quite a lot now too. haven't got scan til 22nd feb when i'll be 21 weeks. feel like i've been waiting forever. cant wait to see the baby again!

hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

randomama · 12/02/2010 23:13

oh sorry berberis. i'm a slow typer. i didn't see your post about worrying about movements. i waan't being a nob going on about mine.

i think it's totally normal to have the symptoms and movements come and go at this stage but if you are really worried i would just pop to see the MW and get her or him to let you hear the heartbeat. i'm sure they'd be happy to and maybe they could advise on skiing?

berberis · 12/02/2010 23:38

that's ok randomama! thanks for reassurance. we're going sunday and i'm working tomorrow so i don't have time now (typical last minute panic from me!) but have done a bit of looking up on internet and if you're rushing around etc you're less likely to feel something than if lie down still. so that could be it as i have been a bit busy. have midwife coming week after next. hopefully the holiday will take my mind off it - i think i am going to do gentle snowshoeing, too neurotic now to do anything else. am telling myself i look like a tank, whereas last week i didn't, and that's a good thing!
x

WhatSheSaid · 13/02/2010 06:47

stac14 no I'm not keeping the sex a secret, I'd be bound to blurt it out at some point if I did! I've let people know by email and on Facebook, but let them know it's a 90% chance, not definite.

I was going through dd's baby clothes today and there are so many tiny cute things she had I'd forgotten about - I'm glad I'll get to use them again. Also there were some things, like hats and jackets, that dd barely used as it was summer here when she was born - whereas July here is winter so they'll get some use this time.

Flexab - I agree with the others about the Gina Ford - I'm not rabidly anti-her, but I just don't think that really tiny babies can be "put" into a routine - I think as they get a bit older they kind of fall into a routine of their own. I worked in childcare, mainly with under-2's, for 8 years before dd was born and babies do vary a lot - we had ones that would sleep for four hours at a time and others that would only sleep for half an hour.

I think newborns are used to being fed constantly through the umbilical cord and to suddenly be on a strict routine is just too much of a change for them - they need to get used to it. Then again, some people swear by a strict routine, so each to their own etc - just don't feel guilty or like you're doing it wrong if your baby isn't doing exactly what the book says - cos lots of them don't! And the newborn time is so so lovely (if tiring!), and so short, don't spend it worrying about whether the baby is sleeping and feeding at the right times - just enjoy the baby.

kittykat77 · 13/02/2010 07:44

berberis I feel like you at the moment. Have had the odd twinge but nothing very much - really thought I would be feeling more at this stage! Hopefully everything is ok - next thing is the scan, but that is not for another 3 weeks! Don't seem to get many checks this time round!

WinterMadness · 13/02/2010 08:37

I'm the same berberis and kittykat. This baby kicks very infrequently, which is very unlike my ds. Wierdly if I do feel it it's really low and sometimes quite far back, the only way I can describe it is I feel the vibrations in my chuff or bum! So clearly if I'm busy I don't feel anything. Ds used to kick, hard, all around my tummy so I'm wondering if my placenta might be higher this time? Got my scan on Tuesday so I'll find out then. Just hoping there's nothing wrong, not long to wait now...

Morning! Just woke after a wonderful sleep! I've been having a read through all the BF posts as this is something i am really, really want to do for as long as possible (well until teeth come along anyway )

DH is a little put out by this as he thinks he will miss out on not being able to feed his own baby! I think this is a fair poin, so we have been looking into doing a mix of bottle (with expressed milk) and breast. Has anyone done this before? If so are there any bottles better for this than others? I have read that baby looses the strong suck when using bottles

I suppose at the end of the day baby will decide what s/he wants to do so am not going to beat myself up if it doesn't work. But at the same time i want to have done enough research so i have an idea of how to resolve any difficulties etc!

I have also not been feeling much movement lately but was at MW yesterday and we listened to heartbeat and baby sounds fine! My uterus is moving up and is level with my belly button now so all right on schedule!!! Bump is getting much bigger - no doubts for anyone looking at me now - definately a pregnant bump

Firerise · 13/02/2010 09:13

Morning,
berberis, kittykat & MLIC (love the new name) I'm also feeling some fluttering then nothing for ages, sometime days. In this bit before the scan you just want to know what's going on in there don't you!

My 20 week isn't until the 8th march and it seems to be dragging!

Been a bit hormonal this week and burst into tears in a shop in town for no good reason...think I may be going slightly doolaley!

Also have a hen party next weekend for my sil to be but thankfully not making us dress up as anything ridiculous and hardly very rock and roll....we are going to drive 60 miles to make bath salts. Hmmmm...

My husband wasn't so lucky for the stag do, they are having an 'Ello 'Ello theme and he has been told to go as Edith. I think that is v mean considering he is the only person going that doesn't know anyone but my brother.

stac14 · 13/02/2010 09:17

morning all, we are going to look at prams today. Havent bought a thing yet. I think your all right regarding the movement, i feel it more when relaxing. My movement is all over the place, often at my belly button. Probably another boy for me lol.

Have a great holiday berberis you all packed?

wss i'm the same as you, wont be able to keep my mouth shut bout it, ds was a surprise but this time we want to know.

Good name change mylife, bet your excited bout scan, will you post a pic?

Anyone doing anything exciting today?
