Morning stac hope you have fun looking at prams today!!! we went to the pram centre near barrowlands - it is massive! I was way too overwhelmed as i had no clue what we wanted. Toys r us were great too. However we have now agreed on icandy apple from john lewis - might have to remortgage the house to afford it tho!!!
Thats a shame about meds stopping you BFing- its amazing how much of what we take in goes through to the milk!

I'm meeting an old flatmate/good friend from uni today. I am really looking forward to it! Although i'm the first of my close friends to be preggers - they are all so excited too so want to talk baby all the time which suits me perfectly

Jojobil · 13/02/2010 10:12

Firerise that is horrid about your husband having to dress up as Edith. But he might have a little fun when he is there...

I've had a proper full on kick yesterday and flatters once or twice a day. 3 more days for the 20 week scan and counting I have a strong feeling it will be a girl again and can't wait to know or sure so I can buy a few things
I've been having lots of cravings. Recently for beer. Which is very odd as I don't drink it more of a wine person. And with my daughter who is five I could not stand alcohol and had to force myself on New Years Eve to lick some champagne... Anyway went and got myself some 0.0% Cobra beer and had one last night with dinner. It must be the need for vitamin B.

Jojobil · 13/02/2010 10:20

Beckyg123 I am considering prams at the moment too. A friend who is due in June and pregnant with her 3rd said she tried Maclare, Phil and Ted's and Bugaboo. And Bugaboo is the best. That's the pram I had with my daughter and thinking of getting one second hand maybe.... I have not looked at the icandy. Did you try to lift it and fold it? I read that it is quite heavy at 13.8kg... I live up a hill and need something steady to push, but easy and practical to fold at the same time... Any suggestions anyone?

beckyg123 · 13/02/2010 10:49

jojobil i folded and lifted the icandy and it didn't seem too heavy too me! i have seen some very light weight ones but they seemed quite flimsy to me. I suppose it depends on your circumstances and lifestyle what will suit you! i am always out in countyside/round parks with the dog and wanted something that would be good offroad! i also wanted one with carseat attachment and one with buggy that can change from front to rear facing.
This is my first so have zero experience of prams but i candy seemed to tick all of my boxes!!! There is just so much choice its scary!!!

kapars · 13/02/2010 11:20

emster I live just off Chelmsford Rd so Walthamstow is only 10 mins drive away from me.
Which hospital are you having your baby in? I'm at Whipps X.
I do have a Baby on board badge which I put on my handbag for the first time the other day. I think the first time someone offers me a seat I will kiss them. Although I am determined now to ask the next time I don't get one.
stac Do let us know how you get on with prams. I have been googling today and am utterly confused. My friend who has three kids (5,2,1) recommends the Bugaboo though a lot of people seem to recommend the McClaren techno. It's doing my head in!
I am going to my parents week after next so will go investigating with my mum as DH not seeming so interested in equipment yet. He is so busy at work all the time.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Chulita · 13/02/2010 11:28

becky, we kind of did a mix of bf and ebm in a bottle. DH wanted to be able to feed her so we introduced a Tommee Tippee Closer to nature bottle when she was about 5 days old. The MW will say don't do it til 3 months or they'll go off the boob but everyone I spoke to who'd waited that long said their baby wouldn't take a bottle after that long. I tried to give her ebm at least once a week (DH went away for 6 months but didn't want her to forget!) and it worked fine. I did end up with a stock of ebm in the freezer which DH found quite amusing, labelled 'My mommy's milk' in naff bags from Boots

Emster30 · 13/02/2010 13:47

kapars I'm off Forest Road, near LLoyd Park, so not very far at all! I'm also going to Whipps Cross, hoping for the birth centre as I'm currently low risk.

firerise, mlic and kittykat am so relieved am not only one worrying! wish had come on here earlier. have spoken to friends, mum, sister etc and they all say is normal to not feel anything at this stage, so am trying not to worry.
stac am still at work, packing tonight - totally last minute! have a feeling that is how it will be for packing hospital bag...!

WhatSheSaid · 13/02/2010 18:19

beckyg123 we did similar to Chulita re expressing so dh could feed - I would usually express about 4oz in the morning - we just used normal Avent bottles, the little ones - and then dh would give her the bottle in the evening when she was cluster feeding (wanting to feed lots for about 3 hours in the evening). Gave me a break from feeding when I was tired in the evening. The advice is not to start it too soon (till 6 weeks or something) but if you wait too long the baby may not take the bottle at all, so lots of people i know started a bit earlier. Can't remember when we did - maybe at about 4 or 5 weeks? There is SO much I have forgotten and it was only 2 years ago!

It was a bit of a faff some days expressing as I would do it while dd had a morning sleep and sometimes I would rather have been resting/sleeping myself! Dh liked feeding her though but after a while we kind of got out of the habit and when we started up again she wouldn't take a bottle - and never did again! I bf her till she was just over 1 and she took water (and later cow's milk) from a cup from about 6 months old.

DesperateHousewife21 · 13/02/2010 18:44

Oops! MyLifeisChaotic my scan is on Tuesday too and I can not wait Although we will be telling everyone. I can not imagine keeping it from my other half. I guess you just have to have a place in a chest of drawers or somewhere where you can put things and he knows not to look... It's hard work though. Are you hoping for a boy or a girl? Or either

Thanks chulita and WSS thats really helpful. Really encouraging to hear that it worked well for you both as, like you say, the professional advice is not to! I would like to start after a few weeks if poss.

MLIC and Jojobil good luck with the scans! I am so excited but have another week to wait! think its going to be a long weel!!!

stac how did you get on looking at prams yesterday?

I'm off to walk the first part of the west highland way today with friends and the dog- it raining after us having a few days of sun! typical! DH thinks i'm nuts!!! Really think he wants me wraped up in cotton wool, but i genuinely feel fine

Jojobil · 14/02/2010 09:42

MLIC my one is at 4pm on Tuesday. I know what you mean I am a rubbish liar too! I can keep secrets but it kills me .

I have a 5 year dd (that's daughter right?) and feel strongly it's a girl again. Which is nice. But anything could happen. As long as she/he is healthy! I have nothing left as we were planning to have only one. But changed my mind last year Got some sleepsuits at a nearly new sale and friends have cots/clothes/carseats waiting for me Although still not 100% on a pram I do think it will be a Bugaboo though.

Thanks Becky

DesperateHousewife21 · 14/02/2010 10:14

Can someone please tell me that its normal to not feel the baby move regularly at 18 weeks. Sometimes I think ive felt it but then dismiss it as wind or food going down.

Im just worried I over did it whilst moving flats on Thurs, I avoided heavy things, rested regularly so cant think I did anything I shouldnt have.

Desperate Is it your first pregnancy? I have not seen you on the list . Normally babies are felt from 20 weeks onwards. Remember that your baby is still quite small and has a lot of space in your belly and is "swimming" without touching the walls womb. It is possible in second, third etc. pregnancies to feel them a little earlier. But honestly I would not worry about it if I were you. I am 20 weeks with my second and I felt it a few times, but go for days without feeling much. If you were 25 + weeks and could not feel a thing then I would contact a midwife...

DesperateHousewife21 · 14/02/2010 13:31

Hi jojo yes its my first, I name changed, I was tishtosh21 and havent got round to changing my name on the list!

Thanks for the support just a little worrying but think I may have felt it this morning.
Got a scan 2 weeks on Tues which I cant wait for

kkfairybrains · 14/02/2010 16:36

hi everyone! back from malta last night and i logged on and read everything i'd missed and when i got to the last post i just zonked! wnd it was only half 8! slept til half 10 this morn then! travelling does that though! malta was lovely, weather was nice but just normal clothes weather.could have done with a jacket a few times but didnt bring one and couldn't find one to buy anywhere! we walked a lot and seen a lot it was lovely! and........got my first kicks over there on friday night! wahoooo! so exciting! was getting really worried like you dh cos i had felt a bit of movement at 18 weeks 2 days in a row but had felt absolutely nothing since and was going to go to doc this week was so weird was lying in bed friday night talking to dp about how i haven't felt it move and next thing got 2 kicks! and another 1 last night and couple this morn! so dh i can totally understand how ur feeling but really i dont think you've anythong to worry about. easier said than done though i know!
on the whole bf and bottle feeding issue i'm definately going to bottle feed.breast feeding just not for me and its not something i could ever imagine myself doing.each to their own though! they've already tried to start pushing me into it at the hospital at both my app's though and i have to say its the one thing i'm not looking forward to when i have the baby because i've heard they nearly try to bully you into bf at the hospital im going to.just have to be adamant and stand my ground!
how's the buggy shopping going? i bought the graco one with car seat and all in january sales but have seen some lovely ones since! seen couple of people with the quinny and they're really nice and light looking and not too bulky but the shopping basket is tiny on them. seen a lovely mamas and papas one too!

Jojobil · 14/02/2010 16:37

It's normal to be worried Especially the first time round! I was freaking out about everything and counted nearly each day!

I'm a bit cross, cause I won a Bugaboo Cameleon from 2007 on Ebay and now the seller emailed me, that she will not sell it to me as she wanted more money! Some people... I think it is very naughty. It was in good condition and I won it quite cheaply for £ 200 and she said she wants at least £ 280. But isn't it what auctions are all about? Anyhow I guess there are different kinds of people and that's that. Pity I wasted my time and got excited about it. I have lots of time and am in no hurry at least !
