Hope the move goes well DH
stac, NCT = National Childcare Trust. They do antenatal classes and some people find they make really good friends through it. They also organise nearly new sales of baby stuff.
I had a lovely chilled-out 'morning', DH woke up at his usual 5:30 and I was wide awake when he left for work so I sat in bed drinking tea and knitting DD's new winter hat. DD gave me 20 mins which felt like hours!!

stac14 · 11/02/2010 09:18

thanks chulita its been a while since i have done this so i know nothing lol. Sounds like you have had a lovely morning.

Think i must have had bad dreams again last night as feel nervy again today, think a wee relaxing hour is in order lol. Ds had a bit of a cough, he's asthmatic so always a worry. Asked him if he wanted to stay off but he wanted to go to school, so i'm now waiting for a call from the school. Tbh i'm sure he will be fine, probably another cold starting. Whats everyone else up to today? Hope your all keeping well x

Morning everyone
Just been catching up on the thread. Sorry to hear about your FIL Viksam

Since Monday I have been feeling almost like a normal person. I have been able to work, shop, hold conversations and cook!!! I'm still getting a bit tired but this is a MASSIVE improvement! Also, got my blood test results back yesterday and they indicate that I am LOW RISK for Down's Syndrome and Spina Bifida Looking forward to my 20 week scan now. Less than a week to go!

My LO is becoming much more active during the night now...waking me up every few hours by wriggling around. I love it!

Wonderstuff · 11/02/2010 15:20

Hi everyone
So sorry to hear about your fil viksam

I watched the C4 prog. I thought it was really well done - everyone I've spoken to (and the ratings must have been immense because I've spoken to soo many people who have watched it) reckoned the dh of the woman on #4 was a prat, although my dear friend, thought that his wife actually didn't seem to phased and seemed to even find him funny, so she was pleased that even a total knob can find someone somewhere to love them - I thought that was a fab way to look at it.

I just got an email about the hen do I'm going to weekend after next - I was looking forward to it and now I feel like crying tbh. It sounded nice - circus workshop - not at all my cuppa tea but a chance to get to know people, then dinner at a nice but not too expensive resturant, then drinks, back to hotel.. I have a nice top to wear for dinner, all good. Email says they are going to do a circus theme - everyone to wear black, red or gold, feather fascinators for everyone and pictures to pin on to outfits - YUCK - and my lovely new top is pink. It also sounds very boozy. I'm just not a fan of themed events, or wandering round looking like a tit, or being the only sober one in the room, I only really know the hen and they are talking about staying out until 3am! I'm worried they are all going to be real yahs and I'll feel really left out. Don't want to go anymore. Sorry know it really isn't a massive deal in the grand scheme of things. Going to cost a bloody fortune as well. [sulk]
And I was projectile vomited up my cornflakes this morning.

WinterMadness · 11/02/2010 15:31

Oh no I sympathise Wonder. I went to a hen do on Saturday that was an 80s themed do. I didn't go in fancy dress and only went for the meal then left when they went into town. I could obv d that as it was local, if it had been away I simply wouldn't have gone, for the same reasons you mentioned.

Just been to the wacky warehouse with an old school friend and her ds. We haven't seen each other for years but known each other since we were 4! Was nice

Wonderstuff · 11/02/2010 15:44

And the email mentioned presents - is it normal to buy presents for someone for their hen do? I'm already forking out for the train, meal, hotel, workshop, outfit.. plus outfit, travel and present for the wedding! I have known the hen since college, which was a long time ago now and my dd is going to be flower girl which will be lovely. Just wish it was nearer so I could just do the meal, hen lives in London, which would have been fab, but has decided to go to Bristol where she went to Uni which is just too far to travel to for dinner. Hopefully it will be a nice meal and I can get back to the hotel a bit earlier, but am sharing a room (and have no idea who with) so even that could be awkward... Hopefully the email sender is not typical of the rest of the group and I will find a kindred spirit. Sorry to go on.

WinterMadness · 11/02/2010 17:20

A present for the hen? That's a bit cheeky in my book.

Wonderstuff · 11/02/2010 17:34

Glad its not just me thinking that was a bit

DH home early - yeah! I'm so very tired.

stac14 · 11/02/2010 18:20

wonder that does sound a bit cheeky, especially considering the expense involved in attending the hen do and wedding. Hope you get a nice relaxing night

How has everyone else been today? I actually started reading my baby books that I got from the bounty pack.

Wonderstuff · 11/02/2010 18:22

I got an email saying there is a new Emma's Diary pack out for us - haven't worked out how to get it yet - there was a link to the website but I couldn't concentrate long enough to read what to do.

Emster30 · 11/02/2010 19:54

Oh the hen do sounds horrendous Wonder - no fun being the only sober one, especially when you don't know anyone.

I haven't had any Emma's Diary or Bounty packs or any freebies at all yet! Most disappointing!

Wonderstuff · 11/02/2010 20:02

Emster30 you should have got vouchers for bounty and emmas diary when you had your booking in appt. In the plastic wallet full of mostly junk which is useful for keeping you're notes in. Nothing terribly exciting but I do love a freebie.

TBH I wouldn't mind being the only sober one too much, its the dress code that is really bugging me, I had my outfit sorted weeks ago and it is all starting to sound a bit too organised, bit facist tbh.

stac14 · 11/02/2010 20:21

oh i never got any emmas diary stuff either, will need to check the website. did you see the offer between pampers and tesco were you get a free hamper thing, it looks good but you have to sign up to both. I am off to look at emmas diary website see what I can dig up

wonder I agree its not the sober thing its the short notice in being told what you have to wear.

emster you can join bounty online, it doesnt offer you the packs from there but I am sure if you mail them and explain you never got it they will send you the voucher to get the pack. I've to go pick mine up

OP posts:
stac14 · 11/02/2010 20:51

I went onto emmas diary website and it says if you register you get free samples and pack just go to www.emmasdiary.co.uk worth a try all freebies are great lol xx

viksam · 11/02/2010 21:59

wonder I would be feeling pants about it too. I wasnt pregnant but went to Budapest for a hen do where I only know the hen. They went to an out side spa thing and I really have a bit of a phobia about swimming pools (other peoples sweat/pubes/plasters/scabs etc) so I choose to 'forget' my swim suite but it was ok coz the hens sister was 5 months pregnant so didnt want to go in either and we had coffee and got to know each other which was nice, so hopefully there will be someone else in the same frame of mind as you. Who ever put out the arrangements does sound very anal and as for a gift, she is having a laugh I recon.
Whats Emmas Diary? It it worth getting?
I have put my work trauma to rest i think by just deciding to suck it up and trusting that my work colleagues arnt going to screw me. Still hard though.
DH21 how did it all go today? Hope it went smoothly, are u sleeping there now?

WhatSheSaid · 11/02/2010 22:05

Had my scan!

All looking good, measurements all as they should be etc

She wasn't 100% sure of the sex....

but is 90% sure it's a girl

not that I mind either way but it's quite exciting to know.

Have another scan (growth scan) at 24 wks so they should be able to confirm then.

Wonder Present for hen sounds mad, whole wedding malarkey costs enough as it is.

Have to rush, off for a picnic

WhatSheSaid · 11/02/2010 22:09

Though I am quite chuffed I get to use all dd's cute baby girl clothes again - she grew out of them all so quickly

viksam · 11/02/2010 22:17

WSS Fab news!! U'll have to tell us more detail when u have more time, off for a picnic......at 10pm?? How very intriguing! or did i read that wrong??

WhatSheSaid · 11/02/2010 22:19

I'm in New Zealand, viksam, it's 11.15 a.m. here

flexab23 · 11/02/2010 22:26

Ooh congrats WSS - exciting news!

Wonder I've managed to bail out of a hen at the end of April. Was going to be near the lake district and I'm in London and have my last hypno birthing class the Friday night so would have been travelling miles for one day and night of watching everyone gets pissed so relieved when hen let me off the hook, although did feel bad. Hen dos and weddings are ruddy expensive enough without forking out for a hen present too, that is a cheek unless you count chocolate willies or something super tacky and equally cheap!!

I've been trying to get the freebie pack advertised in the bounty pack but every Sains/Asda/Boots I've been in and remembered to look have run out and not sure if they are still doing them now. Will check Emma diary thing as love a freebie and don't want to miss out!

Kapars where do you live in London now? I'm in Brockley SE4 but we are currently trying to sell our flat to move to a house in Catford SE6 (boo not so good!) this baby thing is very expensive! And stressful enough first time around without moving home as well (ah sigh my rant over...) anyway I've signed up for NCT classes in Catford in May to try and meet some new people in that area. I'm signing up for anything I can afford as don't have a clue what to do or expect really. I'm addicted to this site and reading what to expect when expecting and already started Gina Ford Contented Baby which is perfect for me and DH as pretty much tells you what you should be doing every hour for the first year of baby's life! Anyone else thinking of doing the Gina Ford routine thing?

Chulita · 12/02/2010 08:06

flexab - just a warning, GF isn't very popular on Mumsnet and babies come with a routine of their own so be prepared to actually not do any of the stuff in the book. And if you're breastfeeding it can be very hard to feed on the schedule she suggests...(didn't like it meself )

stac14 · 12/02/2010 09:18

fab news wss are you keeping the sex a secret? I'm rubbish so no doubt i'l blab lol was the scan lovely, i cant wait.

flexab i have no idea who gf is tbh. But all the stuff i've read bout feeding says its best for baby to feed on demand. When i had ds, they said routine was best but he was a naturally hungry baby so i had to feed when he wanted, that was 10years ago though. Everyone will try their own methods.

dh21 how was the move? You offline at the moment. Hope it all went well

Hows everyone doing today? Its the first day of mid term here and ds has been up since 7.30 playing his comp, so much for lazy days lol x

OP posts:
Wonderstuff · 12/02/2010 12:34

The two things I don't like about GF is a) you end up having to get home for naps and things and its a real pita b) baby hasn't read the book so is likely to do its own thing anyway while you sit there worrying you must be doing it wrong - cos naturally GF claims it always always works

Having said that I have friends who swear by it - I found attaching baby to boob when it cried and going with the flow worked well for me. Anyone else having number 2 worried about when they'll find the 16hours a day to breastfeed and give the toddler attention? I'm thinking I'm really going to have to work out how to feed in my sling - couldn't suss it out last time.

DD actually asked me if she could nap this morning so have just had lunch in peace. Now trying to work out when I need to wake her up to get the bus to dance class by 1.30 I think I can have another 20 mins peace and still have time to get some lunch down her... Friday afternoons are always a bit manic, don't know how I'll cope with 2 lots of stuff to get too.

Chulita · 12/02/2010 15:30

How bad is this ? Pmsl at the automatic doors opening with every push though
