Due May 2010: Into the third trimester we go, can the bumps get any bigger?

So here's the continuation of the thread previously known as Due May 2010: Where we get a 'bloom' just in time for the christmas mayhem???
Let's see if this one lasts up until the first birth... Knowing how chatty we can be, I doubt it!

Hollyoaks so sorry to hear of your friends sad news. It must be a very hard time for them and I wish them some better times really soon.

I don't think you'll have a problem with Centre Parks - as long as you're not doing anything too strenuous!

You're braver than me! I was so scared about taking DS on holiday and he was 8 months the first time! Hope you have a wonderful break.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 08/02/2010 10:27

Hollyoaks - Very sad news about your friends' poor baby, my sympathies.

Holidays - we're off to Canada to the Rocky Mountains for two weeks at the end of July. DH's brother lives over there and is getting married. Bit daunted at the thought of our first trip with a 2 month old baby being a long-haul one, but at least if we novices mess up the packing completely, we won't have trouble getting hold of anything we've forgotten over there! Quite excited too, though, because it will be a good opportunity to introduce him/her to all the family.

Actually, if anyone has any experience of travelling with a baby that age, and wants to offer advice on what to take, it would be gratefully received! So far we were thinking of getting one of those little pop-up moses baskets and taking our buggy (which folds up pretty small and lies flat), and we'll take our car-seat which also attaches to the buggy. We'll probably get a sling too, for hiking etc.

Hello Ladies!

It's been ages since i've posted - and hello to all those that don't 'know' me - but i have been reading posts and lurking like nobodies business. Sorry for the people with losses, pain, discomfort etc. Hurruh for the people enjoying pregnancy and getting carried away witht he shopping!

Our honeymoon in Thailand was utterly amazing, but barely feels like it happened now (though we have been back fro ages) and work has been stupid busy since then. Our year end is coming up and deadlines are primordial dwarf short at the minute.

I dont really have much to report, other than the fact that we have been going crazy re-painting our entire house in a bid to finally get it finished for the lit'lun. It started off just sorting out a room or 2, but you knwo how these things esculate. Buying up much of ebay, and utilising free-cycle like it's going out of fashion. We are still planning on travelling this winter when Lo will be 6 months old, and i'd rather spend the money on tickts and things rather than an £800 pram! We picked up a fab Bugaboo bargain on ebay and that got me started i think. i am also really lucky as i am the last inthe family to have smalls, and my brother had a little boy only 5 months ago - so everything he grows out of should be coming our way!

I've had a really horrible Gastro bug for the last week, and been unable to eat or pretty much stand up, so now that has gone i feel like the life and sou of the party. Albeit a small party, for about 3 people...

My dates have changed by a whole 2 days as the midwives agree that i am better to be dated by the scan than LMP, which is dubious at best. So, there is tacit agreement that my due date is 01/05, but my notes say 03/05. For some reason. I have also been allocated a caseload midwife as i want a HB and I will now be able to see the same midwife for the rest of the pregnancy and she will be at the birth for the whole thing, unless she is at another birth, in which case i will get the secondary midwife who i will also have a chance to get to know over the next weeks. It also means that i get all my antenatal appointmetns at home. Hurrah, no more waiting hours in the hospital to see someone random! I meet her this friday and hope that i like her!

We also have a 3D scan booked for Friday which i am really looking forward to. I want them to confirm the sex (still find it hard to belive it's a boy becasue we were both convinced it's a girl - happy either way though!). Also hoping to get a look at some features, to help it all seem more real...

In preparation for a HB, we have also booked onto a Hynobirthing course later this month. Anything that might help with relaxation and stop me having to get wheeled into hospital can only be a good thing in my book. Anybody had any experience of a course?

Maternity Leave - I'm planning on going off on offical ML on the 4th of May, but will take holdiay before hand, so my last day at work will be the 1st of April. And i cannot wait! I'm sick of working now, even though i had originally thought i'd try and maximise it until after LO is born, i would quite like some me time before hand. And not having to worry about paperwork and my boss will help with that enormously!

Holidays - apart from planning a 3 month sojourn around the world in December! We have also booked a holiday for late summer. My parents live 7 months of the year in Greece, but come back to the UK for that month, so we're planning on a 2 week family holiday at the end of August, then DH will go home when my mum comes out and i'll stay another 10 days or so. Very much looking forward to that!

Crikey - sorry for the long post! Hope i'll get a chance to post again before another 2 months is up, but i love reading everybody elses!

rachelfruitloop · 08/02/2010 11:23

Hi Marquise, I suppose it's time I confess that I'm American and we usually do the 10.5 hour flight back to L.A. to visit my family about once a year, first time with DS1 he was 3 months old. It was very easy on that trip, we were seated at the bulk head on the plane so had nobody sat in front of us, and the airline provided a moses basket type carrier that clipped very securely onto the wall in front of us and had a little safety belt around it. You should be able to request this from the airline before the trip, I rang them to ask.

My mum had a travel cot and pram with car seat at her house so we didn't have to worry about bringing those things, which was great. Just brought clothes (not too many as we planned to stock up whilst there - so brought an empty suitcase!), muslins, bottles and hand pump for expressing, oh and Calpol, as I was nervous about giving baby a medicine I wasn't familiar with if he was poorly. I think a carrier or sling is a very good idea as well!

I can highly recommend feeding the baby during takeoff and landing to help their poor little ears! Also probably a good idea to make sure you know how much the baby weights before you go so you can buy the right sized nappies or clothes, as some of the sizes are different and usually list a weight guide on the package or tag.

mustbemadno3 · 08/02/2010 12:43

lotuspalm what an interesting post! Good luck with you scan, I absoloutley loved mine, which it had been avaliable with my other 2 dc. I thought be freaky but I think because its my own baby I was watching then that made it special. Also wanted sex confirming too and pleased its a girl after 2 ds. As much as I love them both nice to experience a little girl and finally buy something pink!

Holidays - we are off to center parcs friday ....with bikes!!
Going Cornwall in summer and booked a camping weekend in July...how brave am I.

We just brought an apartment in S France but wont be ready til March 2011. So making the most of our last holiday in England.

Maternity Leave - dunno yet, will see how uncomfortable I get!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 08/02/2010 12:43

Pigley - really glad your BP is behaving itself and that you're sorting things out with your Mum, you must be feeling loads better.

Re holidays - wow, lots of amazing sounding holidays! I'm not sure what we'll be doing this year, but off to Scotland at the end of March.

I'm feeling really down at the moment although not entirely sure why. It's been coming on for a while but got worse over the weekend with a hideous visit from PILs. MIL spent the whole day yesterday criticising my parenting. I cried on DH's shoulder last night but he hasn't really spoken to me since (went to bed and then off to work this morning) so I'm not sure what's going on there. I phoned my Mum this morning and she was really unsympathetic so I feel very alone right now Sorry to offload, not sure what to do really.

PIL also brought along an ancient homemade big bed for DD to move into. It's a lovely thought but isn't really safe (covered in splinters and very rickety) and takes up a huge amount of space but we now have to figure out how to deal with that without being horrible.

Sweetpeasmum · 08/02/2010 12:50

Hi there.

I hope I haven't seemed smug about our holiday, I'm just quite excited!

Maternity leave - I've decided to have the 3 weeks this time as I left it to the last minute with DS. I finished on the Friday and had him on the Tuesday - bang on his due date! I was running an audit team at the time and had 3 inspections to conduct in various parts of London that final week, everytime I groaned my team were dialling 999 for the ambulance and getting into a flap! This time I will have a rest - I've decided.

Hope today's going well for everybody. x

pigleychez · 08/02/2010 13:19

SK- How was the scan? Is his size ok?

All this talk of holidays!
We did umm and arr about going somewhere in the UK end of august of sept but kind of talked ourselves out of it with the amount of stuff we would need to take with a 3/4mth old and a just 2 yr old.
Hats off to you ladies taking newborns away abroad.. your braver than I ever was!

Newmomma- Sorry, not much help on the pins and needles.

hollyoaks- so for your friend.

Lotus- Glad you enjoyed your honeymoon. We loved Thialand too

Heffa- I truely sympathise with you. FB me if you fancy a chat

Went to Ikea yesterday and got the funriture for the nursery. DH and DD fell alseep in the afternoon so i was busy putting all the flat packs together. Starting to look a bedroom now instead of the normal dumping ground! Although now starting to worry where all our junk is goin to go!

Snowing here but its too wet to settle. My response to hearing the weather forcast for snow this morning was "oh Frig off!" which DD promptly copied- opps

itshappenedagain · 08/02/2010 13:52

hello all!

im very jealous of all of you off on holiday...i took Ds when he was nearly 4 months last time and felt fab, even though i did do it alone, it was the change of scenery that made all the differnce. i am thinking of taking the 2 of them to eurodisney, but will have to swee what finances are like after Los arrival. all of my family are of to lanzarotti( sp) in just over a week, so have friends on standby to collect Ds if i have to go anywhere...sure ill be fine though.

Lo turned to head down last night, and i now feel that i have a head about to come ou7t as im walking...my friend ( midwife) has checked me this morning and confrimed that im right, although apparnetly can and probably will move herself out...and hopefully back in again in the next few weeks.

im going to reduce the hours i volunteer after half term as i need the time to get things ready for the baby and also to rest, although everyone has been very supportive of me in this pregnancy even when my family weren't.

hope all are well, i have to go and finish making pancakes.

sweetkitty · 08/02/2010 14:09

hi all first the scan, all is well baby is measuring 28 weeks (am 27+5) and all measurements spot on. She even confirmed he is very definitely a boy. Was lovely though we saw lovely shots of his face, eyes, nose, mouth and lips never had a scan so late on before. He is lying transverse with his head half way up on the right just above my belly button, limbs are over towards the left, could tell that from the kicks and bum towards the exit, also have anterior placenta which explains the lack of movement early on. So now have to phone MW and 1) request HB which she will be so happy about 2) tell her the baby is fine and 3) ask about my health in pregnancy form she forgot about!

All this talk of holidays is making me we were thinking of centerparcs first week in July but DS will only be about 6 weeks old then so maybe too young so probably think of it more around Oct holidays.

pigley - which furniture did you get? Am thinking of getting DD3 another cheapy cot from Ikea as she will only be 22 months when DS is born and I need her cot for him being the bedside one. I know you have put DD in a bed but I don't think I could cope with it right now, also if we are sorting out an extension she will probably have to go in with the other two and a cot would be better for containment and space. What colour are you going for the nursery as well ?

mustbemadno3 - think I missed you are having a DD after 2 DSs congratulations, enjoy the pink buying as much as I am enjoying the blue.

Lotuspalm - am in awe of your travel plans but I think travelling with a non walking baby will be easier than say a 2yo toddler.

Hollyoaks - so sorry for your friend how tragic for her and her family

Right best be off DD2 is wanting to do my hair and DD3 has woken up

booboomonster · 08/02/2010 14:55

hi all,

Hollyoaks - so sorry to hear about your friend, how very sad for them. I hope you are bearing up.

Newmomma - yr pins and needles are probably due to water retention and I found were the beginnings of carpal tunnel syndrome - when your hands just seize up. It's annoying, but I found it went straight after the birth last time. Also dangling yr hands off edge of bed helps, or wiggling fingers around.

Loving all the talk of holidays , even tho it's a bit different with a LO in tow. We are going to my parents house in France, aiming to go for the whole of august with DH and DSD there for 2 weeks, and my parents for 2 weeks. Hoping little brother doesn't come or else I'll get no help from my mum (she'll be busy with him, even tho he's 25!). Not sure how relaxing it will be with 3 kids, but just having the sun shining and fewer chores to do should help!

And it's snowing here... Roll on the summer !!

booboomonster · 08/02/2010 15:12

Sorry seemed to miss about 5 posts there - sorry hdffa u r feeling down. PIL have a knack in terms of being annoying - my sympathies.

And SK - great news on the scan!

cupcakefairy · 08/02/2010 16:38

heffa I wanted to send my sympathies too horrible to feel down when pregnant you feel like a wave is going to overwhelm you at any moment...and doesn;t help if DHs don't talk! Hope you manage to have a chat tonight; when mine actually does say stuff he always makes me feel better.

sk good news on the scan I have no idea how my lo is lying, I get kicks/shoves on both sides, near my ribs, by my belly button and right low down in my pelvis...must be swimming around happily!

We haven't even talked about holidays yet! Our first challenge is get through BIL's wedding halfway across the country when lo will be 6 weeks old! Good opportunity to introduce to family etc, just hope I am coping ok by then! Pil have offered us their caravan for the weekend but I've told dh we're getting a hotel!

piglez fab about the nursery, sounds lovely. We are still house-hunting and I can't wait to have a room to actually put stuff in!

cupcakefairy · 08/02/2010 16:40

Oh and hi lotuspalm glad you're still with us ...and that reminds me I totally forgot to wave hello to kaylo the other day, so pleased you are into the second trimester now

AliMouse · 08/02/2010 18:28

Hello,
I'm rather new to this mumsnet business but I thought I'd give it a go.

I'm due my 3rd on 26th May - another boy I have 2 already aged 10 and 3 and I turn 40 on Wednesday.

This baby was a big big shock and I really haven't got my head round the fact I am pregnant and having a baby AT ALL. I thought joining this group might make the reality sink in a bit more!

I told work today that I'm leaving on the 22nd April which has really cheered me up - I'm getting less enthusiastic about my job every week!

Anyway, i'll be following all you lovely ladies from now on!

littleowls · 08/02/2010 18:35

Hello all,

I am thouroughly enjoying reading about all your holiday plans. We hadn't really thought about a holiday but probably won't be going anywhere so i'm very jealous of all the trips, far and near!

heffa - sorry you are feeling down, hope you get to talk to your DH tonight. My MIL is often asking me what we are doing next with the house, she means well but it is annoying!

sk - your scan sounds good! Hope that you are feeling more reassured today, especially about having a HB

hollyoaks so sorry for your friend and her family, hope you are coping too.

With regards to ML, I am starting mine at half term 24th March but it won't officially start until 12th april, when school goes back. I'll be 36 weeks I think. I am eagerly counting down the weeks(7 weeks)! I plan to go back to work part time in September. I don't know if this is the right decision yet as I don't want to rush back to work.

Right tummy is rumbling, i'm off to have some tea, curry, chilli or pasta....

littleowls · 08/02/2010 18:38

Welcome to the 'club' AliMouse!

Den26 · 08/02/2010 19:19

Hi All,

Welcome Alimouse!

Heffa - sorry you are feeling down, families can be so stressful.

Hollyoaks - so sorry to hear about your friend.

Very of all of you planning holidays! Don't think i'll be having one of those for a while

Piglez - i too went a bit mad in IKEA but can't bring myself to build things yet. As we are about 100% its a boy we have gone for primary colours and managed to get all things matching for the nursery

Wanted to ask what everyone's experience of aquanatal classes were if any? I'm planning on going to one tomorrow evening. Feel like i need some exercise and hoping the water will help sore back and hips, just don't know what to expect.

AnAngelWithin · 08/02/2010 19:24

hello alimouse! Hope you like conversation, we are a bunch of chatterboxes!!

Had a nice quiet day here. DH was off work but spent the whole day studying, so i pottered round doing bits and made a big chocolate crumble tray bake thing which went down a treat after tea (I've just had another piece now haha) I made it with plain chocolate....medicinal purposes for the iron!!! Honest!!! I was dizzy and breathless all weekend so I am hoping I'm not anaemic. Am on the pregnacare supplement, maybe just need a boost?

Had a bad weekend, very weepy and everything went wrong, but better today. Me and DH hare having the day together tomorrow just browsing some shops and going to get ds2 and dd2's birthday presents (2 in the space of 2 weeks!!! EEK!! Nothing good on telly 9 months before february haha)

kateyjane · 08/02/2010 20:38

Hi everyone

Angel - your chocolate tray bake sounds gorgeous!Sorry you had a bad weekend, hope the week gets better.

Hollyoaks - So sorry for your friend.

Heffa - Hope you're feeling happier.

Den26 - I really enjoyed aquanatal classes with my first, wish I could still go now. I found it really relaxing, but it also felt very worthy (without the pain!)

Alimouse - Welcome! We have the same due date

SK - Glad the scan went well.

I'm also very of all the fab sounding holidays. Was thinking of going to Devon for a week in June, but we're trying to put every penny towards a 7 seater which will be a necessity! Wish somebody gave out free cars!

As for ML, I'm also leaving at the Easter holidays, but officially start it on 20/4/10, when I'll be just about 35 weeks. Have never started so early before, but feel like I'll really need it this time. Wish I could start it now!

Sorry I haven't posted for ages, feeling very miserable and down. Still itching, which is affecting my sleep. Had Friday and today off work, which makes me feel really guilty. Think everything is getting on top of me at the moment. I know this is nothing compared to what some of you are going through.
Anyway - take care everyone, have a good week

Welcome Livshannah

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 08/02/2010 21:14

Wow, our group is swelling (in more ways than one, if my bump is anything to go by!) Welcome Livshannah and AliMouse !

After a quiet day on here yesterday, we've certainly made up for it today.

Kateyjane sorry to hear you've been feeling down, the itching sounds incredibly frustrating, it must make you want to scream. I hope you find something to help it soon.

Loving hearing about all the nurseries making progress! We got given a delivery window for our nursery furniture and pushchair today, so exciting! Still a month to wait, but that's probably for the best, as we haven't cleared the current stuff out of the nursery-to-be yet (it's currently a guest room).

Angel - v jealous of the chocolate crumble tray bake, sounds delicious. I'm meant to be keeping off the chocolate and biscuits until I get the results of my blood sugar test, so I'll enjoy yours vicariously!

Does anyone know how much a 4D scan costs (presume you have to go privately)? My sister's birthday's coming up and I'd love to treat her to one as a b'day present if (cost permitting).

OP posts:
kateyjane · 08/02/2010 21:32

Thanks MDM Everyone on MN always make me feel much happier. Don't mean to moan all the time though.

Was just looking into the 4D scans myself and the cheapest one I have found is by a company called Babypremier. It was £95 for the basic scan with 8 pictures, you could then add on any extras (DVD, Gender etc..) The prices seem to vary massively. Don't know where you are based, but Babypremier seems to just be in the North (might be wrong though) Sorry, not sure that was helpful at all!
