Due May 2010: Into the third trimester we go, can the bumps get any bigger?

So here's the continuation of the thread previously known as Due May 2010: Where we get a 'bloom' just in time for the christmas mayhem???
Let's see if this one lasts up until the first birth... Knowing how chatty we can be, I doubt it!

my goodness girls!!!! Look at this thread go already!!

Tomlin - very of the little work days you have left!!! I've decided to work up until 11th May (due on 25th) never been pregnant before so not sure what i'll feel like in later stages but want as much time off at other side as possible.

Angel - so sorry to hear about your dog, must be horrible to watch

Rachel - great picture although i do find them a bit creepy! Its amaxing how much detail you can see

Hobnob - Lol re trying to get in the car! Its only been in last 2 weeks people have been noticing i'm pregnant. Mixture of comments - your nice and neat or your not due until when??

ML - hope you feel better soon, your having such a hardtime of it.

Lucky - hope everything goes ok with MIL, i'm lucky that my MIL-to-be is an absolute gem

Re sleep - i can't ermember the last time i slept all night and its very depressing to think i will not have one again for a very very long time. Bought a v-shaped pillow which seems to help me get more comfortable. Last couple of nights have beein waking with an ache in my right hip if lying on that side.

Thank you all for pram information - Squirt - i haven't thought about prams yet either if thats any more reassuring. DP is 6'8" so need to try them first to make sure they are height adjustable to suit us both, i'm 5'4"!!

myfirstbump · 06/02/2010 11:34

Still got time (just) to say good morning.

Good to see so many MW appointments - I'm a bit about to what to expect this time. Can she actually feel the baby then? And is it a 'checkup' or is there anything specific that she looks for? Eek, first timer nerves kicking in.

Littleowl I know exactly what you mean about movements! Baby has been really quiet for the last couple of days, after a mad week last week! Although every time I start to get worried it gives me a reassuring nudge.

Hi Kaylo - glad everything's going well x

Was in London yesterday for a meeting (that was a long day!) and my faith in humanity has been restored. On the tube on the way back out at rush hour a teenager gave me her seat It's nice when it's unexpected.

Got our work christmas party tonight. Fun, but I just want bed! Hope everyone's got a good weekend planned.

Den26 · 06/02/2010 11:38

Littleowls - i too am completely obsessed with movements!! People must think i'm mad when i sit with a massive grin on my face for what seems like no reason!!

also forgot to say - a work colleagues wife had a baby at 29 weeks the other day !! I'm amazed at human nature!

Another had twins in 2 hours, both bums first and both weighing around 4lbs! My head is blanking out that this LO has to come out one day

Sorry - going now before i hog anymore space!

myfirstbump · 06/02/2010 11:45

Oops x post!

Den I think I'm going to start ML on 10th May and have two weeks before Baby makes an appearance. I'm totally with you on making the most of my time afterwards! But I might take a bit of holiday in advance and do two half weeks before ML starts. Fingers crossed that will be enough

myfirstbump · 06/02/2010 11:45

cupcakefairy · 06/02/2010 13:20

Eeeek Den no more stories about babies born at 29 weeks please!! it totally freaks me out that I'm thinking I have 15 weeks left and it could actually end up being 4 or 5 we're so not ready!

myfirstbump I'm a bit apprehensive about mw next week too; my 16 wk appointment was rubbish and I walked home crying my eyes out (for all sorts of reasons - it was a diff mw to the one I was expecting, I was told off for not bringing a urine sample, she didn't have my blood results, didn't listen for hb, she didn't even ask how I was, and I'd been desperate to talk to someone about how down I was ) so hope it is much better next week!

Re sleep I am craving a full night's sleep too...doesn't bode well!! Now the sciatica has eased loads I'm bogged down with cold so keep waking with that, sigh. My sympathies to all of you who can't sleep too!

peakyispreggers · 06/02/2010 14:07

29 weeks - insane! Bad weekend - we are supposed to be moving next weekend from derby to ipswich, and our house has just fallen through. Landlady being totally mental, at the last minute saying she wants 65 pounds a month extra and wont be moving out for another couple of weeks! Nightmare. So stressed i had a glass of wine and went to bed at half 8 last night!! So with no time to find another place, DP is going to have to choose one without me! My god.
cupcake fingers crossed and a mental big hug for your next MW appt, mine is on tues. Mine is pretty abrasive too, maybe take a friend with you?
ML I am giving LO both our surnames, but only due to DP family kicking off, and i dont really mind. Me and all my bros and sis's have my mums surname, even tho my parents are married. why be conventional? ;)
angel sorry to hear about your dog
hope everyone is having a good weekend, think going to the cinema for some george clooney tonight might cheer me up!

sweetkitty · 06/02/2010 15:20

peaky - what a nightmare, not what you need at all, can sympathise completely as we had a disaster of a house move back up to Scotland, stressed us out no end and nearly made us bankrupt. Don't worry the glass of wine would have done no harm.

cupcake - I know what you mean about MWs hope this weeks one goes better.

Re maternity leave, with DD1 I had booked 2 weeks hol and left work at 37 weeks, left work on the Friday and went into labour on the Monday! Had the whole week planned out, we had bought a car on the Sunday (DP had to run me to the hospital in an untaxed car), had no base for the car seat, had hair and wax appt booked etc and a last meal out/trip to the cinema. Of course it was all cancelled Didn't start ML proper until she was 2 weeks old. Babies eh, of course was expecting the next one to be a wee bit early and she was 12 days late.

I'm actually very anxious about this labour, you would think with it being my fourth I would be calm but I'm more apprehensive about this one than any other one, I think I wanted a MW to reassure me not scare me.

littleowls · 06/02/2010 17:20

Reading all your MW stories - It's really shocking how they make us feel. It is only a job to them and many of them seem so abrupt and not at all reassuring, especially when we have worries or questions to ask. It is such a common occurrance, we need to get all the grumpy ones together and give them a good talking to, I'm sure a gang of hormonal and irked ladies would straighten them out! x

schipo · 06/02/2010 17:35

More sympathies for all with annoying midwives. I rarely see the same one twice, and the ones I have seen have been quite nice (if not very busy and vaguely disinterested, and alarmingly young). I'd be very surprised if any of the ones I've seen so far end up at the birth though. I suppose at least seeing a different ones all the time makes each one seem less powerful.

cupcake, hope you get a better luck with yours next week, I think you should be as pushy as you need to be about getting someone to talk things over with. I'm sure services like that are supposed to be available

sweetkitty, good luck with your scan - I'm sure everything is fine and that you'll sail through this birth as well as it sounds like you did with the last ones. Maybe the midwife is just jealous of your birthing record..

peaky, i commiserate with you on house move nightmare. I'm in middle of one of my own, but beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel now. still may end up moving twice in the next two months though

re surname question - we did get married recently but I still use my maiden name (much to my DM's horror). Anyone on facebook will understand why i'd think twice about giving that surname to a boy though! But apart from the fact that it's a girls name I'm not dead keen to pass on my poor old DF's legacy to anyone. DH's surname though is about as plain and simple as you can get and he's keen to pass it on (although he wants to give a string of really unusual first names to go along with it ). It does seem strangely old fashioned though to be giving a boy his fathers name these days.
Anyway, hope you managed to smooth things over with your MIL LuckyC - all sorted?

Carikube · 06/02/2010 18:16

Wow! So much to catch up on!

Just got back from a night away in the Cotswolds - we saw a last-minute deal going and booked it on Thursday for last night. We had a lovely time and dd was an absolute star; loads of people in the hotel complimented us on how well-behaved she was, which is always nice to hear!

Sorry to hear all the MW stories; I've only had 2 appts so far and one of them was with a stand-in as mine was on holiday. However mine was pretty good last time round and doesn't seem to be giving me any grief so far so fingers crossed that continues....

mollybob · 06/02/2010 19:35

hi all - sk i was just giving my thoughts - think your approach seems v wise

i'm only on for a brief min and will catch up properly soon as laptop charger is broken - should get a replacement in next few days

LolaAnn · 06/02/2010 20:33

sweetkitty don't let them bully you - my MW is ridiculously against homebirth, and I am having the easiest most low risk pregnancy (touch wood). So I just have to stick to my guns and try not to indulge her by arguing back.

pigleychez · 06/02/2010 21:49

Hi Ladies,

Been off for a week and soooo much to catch up on.
Been abit stressed lately and been going off to bed really early every night.

A new thread and its so busy already!

I too am getting lots of comments about my size now. I def feel much bigger in the past few weeks and feeling more pregnant..ie achy, heavy bump, Backache, generally uncomfortable!

Baby is still breech at the mo.. I can feel its kicks low down which can really hurt! The other day I really felt like its feet were going to come out of my bum!!

Lots of pram talk going on. Was thinking about doubles actually after a nightmare shopping trip on friday with DD being a madam! But going round the shops with a single is bad enough so would be very limited as to what shops i could go in with a side by side double. Its so confusing isnt it!

Im finally getting used driving the new car. Slowly getting better at parking it!! Our road is currently being dug up to replace gas pipes so getting in and out of the drive has been a mission too!

Cupcake- Well done on the blanket. I knitted a blanket when i was preg with DD too. Havent made anything this time. A blanket is about as adventurous as i get and we really dont need any more of them.

Heffa- Thanks for thinking of me.
Well after DH buying me my own BP monitor, I was getting normal readings at home. At the consultants on Thursday my reading was fine too so they have put it down to Anxiety. She wasnt concerned at all which is a relief.
She wants me to have the GTT in a few weeks though as my sugar levels seem to be increasing.

Re Noisy newborns- DD was nicknamed SnufflePig for a while as she was so noisy! I was abit worried at first till a friend told me it was normal. She was in with us till about 5/6 mths.

SK- Sorry your MW wasnt very nice.I thought last time the MW was lovely?- Is it a different one?
Push for the homebirth if thats what you think is best. The breech thing you can worry about nearer the time if he doesnt turn.- We can both sent each other "turning vibes"!
What car you getting??

Hollyoaks- Sorry about your friends baby

Kaylo- Glad to hear your doing well Do keep popping in to "see" us all.

Angel- to hear about your dog.

Peaky- Hope the house situation works out for you!

Well after the arguement with my mum last week, we had a chat and resolved a few things. She came to stay with us on wed afternoon and went early this morning. She looked after DD for me whilst I went to the hospital and it all went surprisingly well! She was very helpful to me too with cleaning etc. Fingers crossed it lasts!

Took DD swimming this morning then moved some furniture around in the nursery. DH went mad at me for doing it and i must admit im paying for it tonight

Hope everyone else is well

SquirtsMum · 07/02/2010 00:24

Den26 DP and i will have the same problems - he's 6'6" and i'm 5'3" Still head in the sand about it all, and may just wait till LO pops out before i buy a pram!
Feeling much better now after my bloody virus, abit achey still and not hungry so DP is a little stressy at me for not eating properly... deffo not not eating just not chowing down as much as i usually do.
And sigh have discovered stretch marks slowy creeping up my bump... in my little head i was gonna get away with not getting any but mother nature has decided my pristine tattooed tummy will be buggered lol
littleowls yep i'm the same, have a very active Squirt for the last 3 weeks and get uber paranoid if i haven't felt anything for an hour or so

xxxx

mustbemadno3 · 07/02/2010 07:58

Hi just wanted to say couple of things. Have had a different midwife 3x and only been 3x! crap service from the nhs! Having to find info out by myself.....not impressed.

I have joined a pregnancy pilates class, so look forward to that. Also they do private midwifery (which I am not going to pay for) but they offer short classes for £10 with lunch to meet other mtb. The lady who runs them was more helpful than my own m/w.(whoever she is!!)

Had 4d scan was fantastic experience. Thought it might be a bit freaky but well worth it. Got dvd so could show my eldest ds as he couldn't make it due to playing in hockey match.
Pleased to find everything ok as had a bad experience fri night. Had excruciating period pains and ended up going to bed....I felt like the beginnings of labor coming on and I must admit I did panic. Slept it off and was just tender in the morning. Hope that dosen't happen again.

Baby lying head down and very low practically had to take my trousers off!

Hope everyone o.k x

30ish · 07/02/2010 08:18

Good morning! I've had the same experience RE midwives - i've only been to see the midwife three times and i've had a different one each time. I'm also booked in for serial scans but nobody can tell me why - which I find a little bit strange!

Pigleychez i'm getting lots of comments about the size of my bump, which i think is really rude! Avoiding my MIL at all cost as she is the rudest person I know! Nobody would comment on my size normally! I had a bra fitting yesterday and have only gone up one cup size.

Squirtsmum i've notice a couple of stretch marks at the very bottom of my tummey - I didn't get any with DD and had hoped not to get any this time either! Oh well!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 07/02/2010 09:08

Morning all!

Was utterly knackered last night after 7 hours shopping with only a quick break for lunch and cup of tea! Worth it though - got some lovely new maternity clothes in Gap and stocked up on the first few essentials for the baby - sleepsuits and short-sleeved all-in-ones from John Lewis (pretty good value actually!). Also treated myself to some gorgeous-smelling clarins body oil, that's meant to reduce the risk of stretch marks.

Littleowls congrats on ordering the pram - I got ridiculously excited about getting ours (probably more excited than when we got our new car in the summer, and I'm sure more hours of research had gone into the pram!!).

Angel - sorry about your dog, our family cats seemed to have a knack for getting run over, so we were spared that difficult decline.

Schipo and Peaky - hope the house moves resolve themselves and aren't too stressful, that's the last thing you need at the moment. Hope George Clooney took your mind off it for a while Peaky! I really enjoyed that film.

Den and others talking about starting mat. leave - I'm planning something similar to you. Due on 11 May, so am finishing work on 23 April, which gives me just over two weeks. I'll take those two weeks as annual leave (one day is a bank holiday, so I'll only have to use 9 days and can get paid in lieu of any unused holiday that will have accrued between 1 Jan and 6 months into may maternity leave, which will be equivalent about three weeks' pay). I'll start my 'offical' maternity leave on 10 May.

Re Midwives - I have only been to the midwife twice and GP once, first time there were 2 midwives, not sure why, but one of the two was there again second time, no complaints. GP was lovely - have not seen her before, but she's just returned from mat. leave herself, and seemed really excited for me, which was lovely. Told me to enjoy it while it's still a bump, because it's much easier to look after at this point than when it comes out!

My bump seems to have suddenly grown loads in the last 3 days and I also seem to have put on 1kg since Thursday, very odd!

OP posts:
AnAngelWithin · 07/02/2010 10:00

morning all.

too tired to do anything today!! Everythings going wrong!!! Broken a cupboard door and ds1 cereal bowl, asked the boys to take the sheets off their beds so i could wash them which they did, only the girls did theirs too when I wanted to leave theirs til wednesday so I have twice as much to wash and dry today! (won't be ironing it all though )

We have 3 midwives that cover our town. I tend to see the same 2 at the moment which is nice. One of them attended both my HB's even came in on her day off to attend ds2 birth!

My bumps getting huge! DH said last night he is worried about me though as he has never seen my so tired during a pregnancy. Well...i AM running round after 4 other kids and a sick dog so what he is execting I don't know!!! At least he is being a star helping me out when he can! Though I am a little breathless though so am just hoping I am not anaemic!!

Squirtsmum, wait til you get to number 5!!! My tummy looks like the roadmap of great britain!!! rofl!!

SK I know how you feel, I am getting more and more anxious about this one!!!

Just making a list of things left to buy. Have got loads in the sales which was good, I just need to get bottles (in case BF doesn't work out, I'm not running myself into the ground if I can't manage it i am afraid!!) Mother care have got 20% off the dr browns ones I want, wonder if its instore as wellor just online???

Sweetpeasmum · 07/02/2010 13:23

Morning all. Have been doing my usual lurking to try and keep up but have not posted as have not had much to say really. I did enjoy the pram debate but am sticking to the two we already have. We have a Mamas & Papas 03 Sport and a Maclaren Quest for in the car, travelling, etc. The M&P has been great as I have been able to run and walk where I like without having to wait for a babysitter and is ideal now that we have moved to the country. It is quite heavy but I managed to haul it around on tubes and buses when we were still in London and was always offered help with stairs, etc. The Maclaren is lovely and light weight which is great for flying.

Work is still busy but I go on leave for two weeks from 30 April and will start maternity leave properly on 17 May. We are very lucky in that we can carry over 15 days leave each year without any questions and I think the rules have changed for returning from maternity in the last year due to European legislation. If I remember rightly I can apply to carry over all unused leave from that leave year into the next - just as well as I'll still have 34 days to take when I go back after 6 months! I am feeling a bit of groundrush though as I have a lot to finish before the end of April!

We've just booked a last minute holiday to Egypt for some sun and relaxation just in case we don't get round to going on holiday this summer. We're going for the first week in March so it's also a consolation for not being able to go skiing this year.

Oh well, 25 weeks now and I've managed to see the same midwife the whole way through. Sorry to all those who are having a hard time with theirs.

Angel - sorry to hear about your friend's baby.

Welcome to all the new people who have joined in the last few weeks and good luck to all those moving house.

brightredballoon · 07/02/2010 20:28

Hi everyone

Hope you have all had a nice weekend. We have had a really quiet weekend which has been a nice change!

I am huge! I was looking through the Christmas photos we took and my bump is tiny in them, now I seriously look full term! My bump is like a football though, nothing on my back or sides just all out the front, I swear this is another boy!

My back/pelvic ache hasn't been too bad of late but I have booked in to see a chiropractor just to check everything is in order and I am even more pleased about this as I phoned my private med care through work and I am covered for 10 sessions! Wanted to mention it incase anyone else in similar situation.

slings there was some chat earlier about these, has anyone ever had a Close one? a friend has recommended it but I am unsure whether to get a mei tei or the close. I don't plan to carry the baby alot, just in unsettled periods during the newborn stage and if DD wants in the pram occasionally.

I am noticing the baby having hickups now, and since they are very low down I presume baby is head down now (I know this can change!_)

Sweatpea your holiday plans sound great.
We are looking into a holiday for the October break as DD starts school in August we think that time of year will be better than trying to cram one in before the schools go back and with me being a c-section this time I want to feel 100% mobile and fit to chase a 4 and 2 yr old and deal with a newborn. DH is good with the kids but he hasn't really got the holiday mode with kids yet, he still manages to read a couple of books whilst I do the majority of the chasing/pool play.

Also, this is way TMI but just incase anyone else was/is suffering with slow bowels I have found a huge difference moving from pregnacare to sanatagen vit tablets. They have less iron in them which I am not sure if it is that or just coincidence but I definitely feel a lot better !

SK what car did you go for in the end?

I am 28+1 today, with my last two I found from 30wks the time seems to go even quicker yet I still feel like I have sooo much to do (rooms to decorate, all baby stuff to sort and wash, beds to buy, car to get etc). I think I need a long list and to tackle each thing one by one and get them ticked off.

sweetkitty · 07/02/2010 21:55

hi brightred - I'm all out front as well but I have been for all 4, there is no difference whatsoever in bump shape or anything really from the girls. I had a Closer sling with DD3 it was good but I'm only 5ft3in and there was loads and loads of extra material to wrap round me. I am thinking about an Ergo this time with a newborn insert.

We still haven't got a car, long story don't ask but we know which one we want a Citreon C8 so I suppose that's something. Probably settled on a P&T Vibe as well pramwise. A friend is buying my Lunamix so that will be a bit more towards it.

I'm on the Sanatogen as well never had a problem with constipation but TMI alert I feel like everything downstairs is really swollen and tender, erm vaginal secretions are off the scale and won't even mention the pile situation poor DP between that and the SPD he cannot come near me.

Sweetpeasmum - am so of your holiday in the sun enjoy!

Anangelwithin - am with you on the tiredness thing, DP said the other night he was worried about me as I was really slowing down and I still have 13 weeks to go. I was thinking of getting some Spatone as well as a little boost. Am definitely getting some the week before I am due as last birth I lost a fair bit of blood and it made me anaemic and quite run down.

Pigley - I was thinking about you today and that I hadn't heard for you in the while. Glad you are getting used to the new car. And you sorted things out a bit with your Mum. I think this LO has actually turned as I was getting kicks in my erm downstairs but now they are under my ribs. We shall see tomorrow at the scan. Yes I loved my last MW I wanted her to adopt me I actually shed a tear on her last visit. She was so lovely really looked after me above and beyond.

TomlinTowers · 07/02/2010 23:24

Hi all

So glad to see others deciding on mat leave arrangements - I was starting to think you all loved your jobs, and I was the only who can't wait to get to finish at work! I am very lucky with my timing, as I am on hols for 5 weeks from 31st March to 9th May, and then mat leave officially starts (due 14th May), so not due back until 8th May 2011!! And I still get to carry my remaining 6 days over to the next holiday year. They might forget who I am at this rate - I'll go back to no files, no clients, no desk...!!

Brightred - I am with you on the making a list idea. I LOVE lists. I have holiday lists, christmas lists, birthday lists - all typed up on my computer not even just scribbled down. How sad, eh??

I am taking Sanatogen preg vits with the omega 3 supplement - I took the same ones with DS1 but still ended up on iron tablets, not sure how really. I have noticed that I am getting breathless particularly when lying down, so hoping that is just DC2 squashing lungs and not anemia as iron tables had v horrid effects!!

Been having really bad back ache recently, much worse that with DS1. Work did risk assessment which went something along the lines of "do you lift heavy items" "yes my files from the cabinet on to my desk/into my car/into the conference room/to court etc" "well there's nothing we can do about that, that's part of your job, carry on" . So consequently back now aches like hell. Anyways, went to the MW last monday when I had a day off, she referred me to physio straight away, and I got the appt on Saturday for Wednesday afternoon . So, although I had horrible experience with MW last time, I have to say that service has been fab. Long may it continue.

Sweetpea your holiday sounds amazing I would love to go to Egypt. We have just booked a family holiday to Northumberland (not quite as exotic!) for the end of July when DC2 will be about 10 weeks. Booked it in fit of bravado that she will be a good sleeper, feeder, etc and all will be absolutely fine, paid deposit, and now starting to panic that I had behaved like a madwoman. It will be lovely for DS1 to have a beach holiday though, and all family (mum, dad, sis, BIL, DH) will be there to help out, so might even be a bit of a break??

Went to see my Gran yesterday (she is 85 and batty). She asked me three times if I was absolutely sure that I wasn't having twins because the bump was so big. Am getting a bit fed up of the comments now. Have looked back at photos of me when carrying DS1 and admittedly I am a little bigger, but not huuugee and I thought second babies always did look bigger because your body stretches more easily because it's done it before??? Am getting so paranoid will be asking MW to measure bump immediately I see her at 28 week appt! If it's not one thing to worry about, it's another...

Have read all posts, but can't think of any other specific replies. Love to all who need it at the moment, and hi to everyone!

newmomma · 08/02/2010 08:55

Hi ladies,

Just a quick post - sorry I don't have time this morning to read through everything I've missed...

I have been suffering from pins and needles in my hands/arms and feet to a lesser extent. Does it mean anything or is it just another one of those symptoms to put up with??

Can't believe how quickly the thread is filling up - what a bunch of chatter boxes we are!

Hollyoaks · 08/02/2010 08:59

Hi all

Thanks for all of the supportive messages, I know I've been a little evasive with the details about my friends baby as I didn't want to worry anyone or cause additional stress. So, if you don't want to know please don't read on. Their little girl was born with Edward's Syndrome (I think that is what Viv's lo had but this wasn't picked up antenatally). She was given a week to live but came home and lived for one month exactly. It was a very sad time, but pleased in a way thats its over for her and her parents.

Hope that hasn't upset anyone too much.

tomlin - can you use a little trolley on wheels to help with your back? I have one to carry my marking home in at the weekends and it looks like a one an airhostess would pull through the airport.

SK - with you on the swollen downstairs regions

Maternity Leave - I won't be leaving till the 17th May! Some of you will have babies who are weeks old by then, but as its exam season I feel it would be better for me to stay for as long as possible. Dreading those last few weeks though, I had 5 weeks of before dd and I remember how achey and uncomfortable it was. Oh well, just hope it doesn't come too early and I get a few days off.

Holidays - we've booked in for a week at Centre Parks in mid-July. DH can take dd swimming and ride the bike and I'll stick to walking with the buggy and trying to work off some of that baby phat.

Oooh, just thought, if baby comes late I may not have had my six week check by then, is there anything I shouldn't be doing besides really strenuous exercise? Was hoping to go to Alton Towers too at the same time, will I be able to go on the rides
