So here's the continuation of the thread previously known as Due May 2010: Where we get a 'bloom' just in time for the christmas mayhem???
Let's see if this one lasts up until the first birth... Knowing how chatty we can be, I doubt it!

hello again all.
Memorylapse- im with you on the pram addiction, ive had 22 just for Ds ( this time have done more research and will be sticking to just the one...possibly 2. i couldnt stand them being dirty at all when he was smaller and would scrub the wheels and wash the covers all the time, no have a quinny zapp which is about 12 months old and still gets the scrubbing treatment and wheels removed if we have been further than the local shops.

babys movements are getting stronger and stronger and she now seems to respond to Ds talking to her. he likes to read in bed before we get up so its started from there. im keeping my fingers crossed that it continues when she arrives. friends keep telling me that he will get very jealous and not want to be involved...im hoping that they are wrong.

i am now offically sick of people telling me how huge i am...funny considering i have a bay in there...was very tempted to make some comments of my own but didnt. and lots of comparing to people who they know who are due their aby's soon and arent as big as me. im now 47 inches around my waist, before i was preg i was 22, then again was huge with Ds so am very prepared to get even bigger.
i have a M/W apointment on thursday, so im sure she will tell me all is fine and i dont have to see her again until im near the ned...althought i also suspect she will tell me my chances of HB are slim to none due to asthma being so bad during the whle of this pregnancy!
sorry for such a long post.
take care

No time for lengthy post, but due to number of requests, thought I'd just quickly post the name of the wonder-book and a link to it on amazon... What to Buy for Your Baby: Choosing the Equipment That's Right for You

Hollyoaks · 02/02/2010 21:44

Hi, thanks for kind messages. DD has been sick a few times but insisted on eating two slices of dry bread, even though she vomited half way through eating them
In bed now surrounded by towels, fingers crossed for a quiet sick-free night.

Yorky · 02/02/2010 21:51

What a bunch of chatterboxes! 27 posts and I've only just found you! On my last ante-natal group we sued to average a new thread a fortnight

ML - at least you got rid of your buggies, I just collect them! How many did you have at one time?

Shattered will be back tomorrow, hopefully with more brain power to remember what everyone else has said.

memorylapse · 02/02/2010 22:01

Hollyoaks..hope DD feels better soon
Yorky..I probably had about 3/4 at any time..embarrasing eh??

littleowls · 03/02/2010 08:00

Thought I'd try a quick read before work. I may be able to understand what is on the screen!

Hollyoaks - hope you got a better night last night with DD. x

MDM - thanks for the link. Think I would buy everything that was going without guidance!

Yorky - thanks, I just love owls really. I also know what you mean about trying to remember everything on the thread to respond.

All the pram enthusiasts - I would hope that I am just getting the one pram but who knows? I might become one of you and become an avid collector.

Off to work now, hope everyone has a good day. Going to the hospital mid morning for a BP checkup, which should be fine. Bye for now x

myfirstbump · 03/02/2010 08:25

MDM - thanks for the link. Am off to buy it now (does this count as a baby buy?)

ML - I am so impressed and a teensy bit at your pram power! Convincing DH to choose the one we've picked was hard enough work - I don't think I've got it in me to do it again

Lola - rofl at sunbathing while your tummy dances! I bet it was fun to watch.

And there my thread memory fails. Right, best do some work. Hope everyone has a good day x

Carikube · 03/02/2010 08:53

Morning all!

I've suddenly remembered I've got my first antenatal class this evening (I'm doing the refresher course). Time is really flying by!! Somehow I don't think much has changed since I did the full course last Feb but it will be nice to meet other people in the area who are on to number 2....

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 03/02/2010 09:01

Hollyoaks - so sorry to hear about your DD, hope she feels better soon. It's horrible when they're poorly. Did she have a good night?

at how many prams some of you have had! I love shopping for them but only have two. I'd be more addicted if DH would let me though

Suey2 - love your SIL's acupressure! I'm sure nothing works.

My bump is very active and I can see it moving around but DH can't yet because it stops whenever he looks. LO did kick the cat off me the other day though.

RacquelWelsh · 03/02/2010 09:24

Like Twentieth, I am in awe of some of your pram owning! I've not got one sorted yet..

I've uploaded a photo from our 4d scan we had done on Monday. Because the cord was right across his face and he had his feet up round his neck (I wish I could do that!) the sonographer suggested we went back in a couple of weeks to have the photos done when he will hopefully be more co-operative. I've uploaded the only photo we took, it's not that good (taken of the screen on a mobile phone) but you can clearly see his face... Will post the others when they're done.

The detail that you can see on the screen is amazing, right down to eyelids and fingernails, it was brilliant

Itshappenedagain I know what you mean about people telling you how big you are. "MY GOD, YOU'RE THE SIZE OF A HORSE" was the most recent comment I've had (I'm 5ft 8 and have put on a stone since I got pregnant) hardly comparable to a horse

Hope everyone is doing alright.

LuckyC · 03/02/2010 09:32

Thanks for shiny new thread! Have read all posts but tricky to rely individually - forgive me!

I am also not, at the moment, a massive fan of pregnancy, but do have moments of absolute awe about the whole thing. I do love hearing the good stuff from the preggie-likers but also must say love the preggie-moaners! I find it SO reassuring that all this is happening to us at the same time. SPD + numb hands still bothering me. Getting very little sleep, which I guess is good practice.

Started NCT classes. Really strongly struck and a bit by how much they focus on the 'perfect' birth - baby in optimum position, no pain relief, no C-sec - hello real world??? Doing a whole 3 hours on labour tomorrow and am frankly bloody terrified.

Hi ponyness and joymaker

Looking at the list and hobnob why have you got a question mark after 'girl'?? Have I missed something?

Also Angel I really hope I have not missed anything here but how is your dog?

pram question does anyone know anything about the Urban Detour from Mothercare? I mightr just buy one second-hand and have done with it! Is this bad? Should I put more effort in??

Hobnobfanatic · 03/02/2010 09:39

Lucky - the baby had its legs crossed! They said, if they had to guess, they'd say a girl, as they didn't see any boy bits, but they didn't actually see any girl bits either, so it could still surprise us!

newmomma · 03/02/2010 09:40

Thanks for the new thread MDM memorylapse I am amazed at how many pushchairs you have!! it took my and DH months to choose the ONE we have now - i am gutted to have to get rid o fit actually.

I too am looking for a double buggy (gap between DS1 and DD1 will be 16mths) and have been looking at the iCandy. I just can't get excited about the P&T...

But I'm confused...?? I can't figure out how it all works - I thought the Pear was for a toddler and baby but some people are mentioning other models (cherry/blossom etc). Has anyone done any research and could you help me understand how/what model to buy. I need to go see one in a shop really but its miles to the nearest stockist and RL just seems to get in the way...

Hollyoaks how was DD last night - no more sickness I hope? Sending her vibes.

I'm not necessarily sick of people telling me how huge I am at the moment - I keep bitching and moaning about how much bigger I am than last time (I was this size at 35 weeks and gave birth at 38!) and so most friends are politely telling me 'oh, don't be silly - you're not THAT big'. All lies, I know. Am mahoosive. And quite uncomfortable but have been doing ridiculous exercises to try and move baby from transverse position to normal.

Sorry for the long post...

CornishSAMum · 03/02/2010 09:54

Den26 That would make sense about hearing the umbilical cord, thanks for the reassurance. Seeing MW in a few weeks so can ask her then just to be sure.

myfirstbump, peakyispreggers & LolaAnn What to Buy for Your Baby is really brilliant and as they say, they have no vested interest in any of the products or companies so wouldn?t benefit for rating one product over the other if they?d not found that product good. Also, they?re not shy to tell you their favourites and why, it was written by two woman but they also used a ?parenting panel? AND they also sometimes mention products that one or two of them found great, so appeals to a wider variety of users.

littleowls I have also felt the kicks lessen in intensity but I just put that down to me gaining weight/being really busy/being tired/getting used to the feeling? I wonder if any of the already Mums can advise us?

Hollyoaks Hope you DD is feeling better today, poor little thing. As a first time mum that is one thing I don?t think ahead of - I?m still trying to get my head around the first day, changing nappies and BF let alone later night terrors, teething, toddler illnesses and other stuff that comes as they grow older! I wonder if babies have a pause button so we can take things at our own pace?

I?m going for a fasting sugar blood test thing in a couple of weeks to check for gestational diabetes. I?ve been doing some reading about it to find out why babies are larger for woman with GD and found one lady had a 14.4 pound baby in oz ? see the link giant baby! I found it v interesting that even tho they are larger many are under developed as they have to be born sooner because of their size rather than because they went ?ping? (as they?re ready).

Soz for mammoth post, seem to have found my mumsnet chat fingers!

Hobnobfanatic · 03/02/2010 09:57

I'm so massive I couldn't get in my car yesterday! Someone had parked next to me while I took DD swimming, and when I got back I couldn't open the door enough to get in my car (they were within their own bay - but I need to open the door to full swing to get inside now).

I tried every door and couldn't manage it. I had to find a non-pregnant person and ask them to drive my car out of the bay, so I could then take over! I Feel like a right heffalump!

All this talk of 3/4d scans is making me jealous, especially as we aren't 100 per cent sure of the sex. I think I might give one a go - but I just keep thinking that the money would be better spent on baby bedding etc...

AnAngelWithin · 03/02/2010 10:54

hello all. sorry not been around much. got a lot going on really.

anyway, went and picked pram up. Its lovely. Totsbots washable nappies have come. Again, lovely. Just bits to get now really. I washed some of the baby clothes yesterday just so they are out the packaging as well and easier to store.

itshappenedagain, I am fed up of people telling me i am huge too!!! ...oooh new icon!!! i like it!!!

LuckyC · 03/02/2010 11:26

hobnob I do remember now about your scan. Very exciting to have all to play for! Also at not fitting in car.

itshappenedagain · 03/02/2010 11:48

luckyc- the urban detour was the first pram i had for Ds, it was fab if you walked about alot, which i did, and fluffy liner was fab and really cosy, just had problems fitting it into the boot of the car. i gave it to my friend who had her baby a couple of months later and she still uses it now.
i think this time im going for a bugaboo bee, with buggy boarda and seat, hoping that will get me all the way through, other than that havent seen any that i like.

hobnob- i remember going to the shops with a friend who parked in the aprent and child ( she had her daughter in car) and soe woman coming over and having a massive go at me, as she said they were for people with children, i then stood up properly and nearly dented the next car opening the door, then helpedfriends daughter out...cue very embarassed woman. have mainly shopped online this pregnancy!

does anyone else not drive? and what do you do about the whole car seat situation? as hospital wont let me home without one, my dad will be collecting me. may just have to buy a cheepy.

well im off to make a cake.

sweetkitty · 03/02/2010 11:50

I'm getting the opposite "oh look how small and neat you are" "are you sure you only have 13 weeks to go" "I was that size at 12 weeks with mine"

I have carried all of them this way and always had the comments, I think you are either tiny and too neat or huge (cannot win) I was a size 8 8st 8lbs before getting pregnant and now last weigh in at the weekend 10st 2lbs, the baby weighs about 3lbs so where is the rest of it (on my bum most probably). I know I am lucky as the weight seems to drop off so not that bothered about it, combination of BFing and never sitting down.

Been looking at a car this morning and we both really like it so it may be a maybe, feels massive when you are in it though.

newmomma - right having researched doubles to death I know a wee bit about them. The iCandy Pear I believe is an Apple chassis with adaptors to put another seat on. I think it is more designed for twins i.e to have 2 carrycots on it, I know a lot of people have complained that is great for twin babies but not so good for a toddler and a baby. The Peach is the new model and you can add the second seat to it, you can have it as a carrycot and toddler seat, a car seat and a toddler seat or 2 toddler seats. It is believed to be better than the Pear but personally I think it would fall down again once you have 2 toddlers in it, there are a few reviews on here you could have a look at and also have a google.

Hobnob - sorry the baby had it's legs crossed, the 3D/4D scan is good but you can get a gender scan for about £75.

Hollyoaks - hope you had a better night and your DD is over the worst of it now

newmomma · 03/02/2010 11:55

Thanks sweetkitty I'll go and see if I can read up on the Peach instead.

rachelfruitloop · 03/02/2010 13:22

Memorylapse I am amazed by your pram-buying prowess!

Itshappenedagain I don't drive but have had car seats for DS1, initially for the ride home from hospital, but we found that we did go places in cars with friends occasionally and it was worth having. I got the Fisher-Price Safe Voyage Infant Carrier (about £50) and it was great, will be using it for this baby as well.

newmomma I, too, am the size I was at 33 weeks with DS1 and am 25 weeks now, glad to hear I'm not the only one!

Heffa LOL about LO kicking the cat off your lap!

For mummies wondering about the kicking, I found that the kicks felt less drastic the further along I got with DS1, as he had less room. Mostly felt a kick in the ribs in the exact same spot when the space ran out. I suspect that stage is coming up soon again!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 03/02/2010 14:31

Wow, in an unusual fit of self-dicipline I managed to stick to my vow not to check in here until lunchtime, only to find a huge load of posts! Good work ladies!

ML your pram list is impressive! I am fully (naively?) intending that our buggy will be the only one we need to get, but as I'd like to have a second child quite soon after the first, will probably end up having to get a double at some point if all goes according to plan!

RacquelWelsh - that 4d scan pic is amazing! A bit , and tempted to go and have one, but we wanted a surprise with the sex of the baby, so I guess not very sensible for me to go for another scan, especially such a detailed one, in case we accidentally find out what it is!

Lucky C - a bit jealous that you've started your NCT classes - mine don't start for another 3 weeks, can't wait!

Sweetkitty - I'm also getting lots of comments about being small / not looking pregnant. I wonder if it's to do with where the bump is carried? From surreptitious bump-comparing during ante-natal yoga, I think mine is fairly low down. It might be on the small side too - it measured 23cm at 25+3 (but no idea whether that's normal or not, as my maternity notes book from the midwife doesn't have a chart). I've put on 7kg in the 26 weeks so far, so it's going somewhere (boobs I think!), but my waist has only grown 4 inches - from 24 inches to 28, so I like to convince myself that I just have super-strong abs that are holding it all in!!

OP posts:
LolaAnn · 03/02/2010 15:09

newmomma
I spent about an hour with DH lookign at the iCandy models last weekend, from what I have gathered

Cherry - no good for me, always a single, has small wheels both front and rear but very light. Can have carrycot or normal seat.

Apple - The older model, can be upgraded with a kit to the Pear double. Has big wheels at rear and carrycot attachments etc. The pushchair seats are definately bigger, so this is an advantage as really the seats are a lot smaller on all iCandy models than say a P&Ts.

Pear - the double version of the apple. so many disadvantages, you really need to go an play with it. Can clip maxi cosi car seat on to either top or bottom but require different adaptors for both. When used as a double with the carrycot and toddler seat the carrycot has to go on the bottom, and facing away from you.

When you stick two toddler seats on the bottom one is pretty tiny, I have my doubts as to how long a bub would last in it.

Also as a double you are meant to clip an extra set of wheels onto the front which I think looks really ugly and makes it harder to push.

Peach- the new version of the pear, can be single or double. As a single really nice, carrycot and seat nice and large (although toddler seat much smaller than say P&Ts or any other model) and toddler seat smaller than the Apple/Pear seat.

The advantage of having this one as a double with a newborn and a toddler is you can have it configured so that the car seat is on the lower bit facing you, and the toddler seat on the upper bit facing out to explore. Otherwise same as Pear you must have carrycot facing away when used with the toddler seat. Lower carrycot a lot nicer looking than the Pear but still significantly smaller than the one you use as a single.

Woah yeah I'm having a hard time deciding what to do. I don't like P&Ts either... but these are just so expensive.

newmomma · 03/02/2010 15:35

Thanks LolaAnn !!

I can't believe it can be so hard to find a NICE double that will do two children of different ages.

I kind of wish I was going to have a larger gap between DS and DD as I'm SO happy with my Quinny that I'm considering keeping it and trying to cope with a buggy board and a baby carrier...

sweetkitty · 03/02/2010 15:47

I must admit I don't really like the P&T but as a single to double and back again it is the best of a bad bunch. I have also had a side by side and a tandem as there is only 18 months between DD1 and 2. Other doubles which rate highly are the Nipper 360 and Mountain Buggy (both side by side) or the Easywalker Duo side by side but you can have a rear facing carrycot for the baby. Another option would be to buy a cheap side by side like a Maclaren if you think you won't use it that much.
