Due May 2010: Into the third trimester we go, can the bumps get any bigger?

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 02/02/2010 14:19

So here's the continuation of the thread previously known as Due May 2010: Where we get a 'bloom' just in time for the christmas mayhem???
Let's see if this one lasts up until the first birth... Knowing how chatty we can be, I doubt it!

Hi All, my goodness, so hard to keep up!!

MDM - at the brilliant birth story!

Angel - glad you're happy with your hair and that sucks about no home birth.

LuckyC - hope things have calmed down a little with your MIL

re BH - when you say bump goes hard - does it feel like its full of air and a bit uncomfortable? If so i think i've had some !!!

Also think i've been feeling hiccups (sorry - spot the first timer!! )

Been getting things ready for hospital bag too - got a wedding 10 hours away when i'm 36 weeks so want to have it organised to take with me just in case!

Still struggling on the pram front - no idea what to get

AnAngelWithin · 15/03/2010 21:59

Den I am sure me and ML can come up with a pram suggestion between us!! We are the buggy queens haha. What sort of thing do you want it to 'do' and 'be like'?

schipo · 15/03/2010 22:43

Hello all

Way to much to respond to as usual

Hollyoaks - well done on your DIY, I'm sure i'd have done the same thing with mine if I could have seen what I was doing

Wibblela - nice to hear from you but sorry it's been heavy going for you.

Moggmum - sorry about your spoilt mothers day. We've invited MIL to visit over easter and I'm already worried I got a happy mothers day text message from step daughter though which was a first and a pleasant surprise.

Pamelat - your DD sounds like a real character hope she eases up the pressure a bit when baby arrives. makes me wonder what I've got in store...

LuckyC - you have a great way with words. We got as far as having a cot delivered before we put everything in store but made less progress with ours that it sounds like you've done.

Apologies for lack of detailed responses - enjoying everyone's posts

Re prams - my thoughts this week are about britax vigour. They sound good but haven't seen one in RL. Even walked all the way down to Mothercare only to find they only stock them online. I'm still looking for a reason not to buy a second hand cameleon really.

Re progress, I'm feeling, as a first timer, that this is really getting to the serious bit. I was 31 weeks yesterday, and with all the NCT classes about what's to come I'm beginning to feel like I miss being pregnant already. Also more I learn about the birth options the more there seems to worry about. Very excited about meeting the baby too obviously, but I'm sure I'm going to miss the bump and how the mysterious baby shuffles around inside it.

Had a midwife appt today and it took ages to find heart beat and when we did it was very quiet. Usually this MW finds it straight away and it's really loud. Seems like he's moved to back to back position which I don't mind if he's on his way from right to left hand side. It also seems he's very low though. Has anyone else been told their baby's low? She assured me it didn't mean baby's on his way out, but I can't help worrying.

MW also confirmed that although there's no reason (yet) for me not to have a home birth, I'd have to transfer to another hospital to do it. The community midwives at UCL hospital don't cover my postcode . I'm really not sure what to do. Even DH is quite up for a home birth now but I'm wary of transferring to local hospital only to find that something comes up at the last minute and I end up in a hospital I'm not so familiar with The local hospital's probably just as good (especially since its new MW-led birthing centre did finally open this month i'm told) but still it seems like late in the day to switch. Wondering if the possible benefits of a possible home birth are really worth all the trouble?

It seems like I have two weeks at most to decide anyway...

Hope you all have a good week.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 16/03/2010 07:40

Myfirstbump - your Mother's Day sounds fab, very brave of you to watch Up! I think it would make me dissolve normally, let alone with pg hormones.

MDM - nice of your friend to lend you some stuff

Angel - the jasmine is gorgeous. I put it in our shower room and it smells lovely in there now.

Pamelat - wow, uni exam at 38 weeks!

MoggMum - sorry you had a difficult time on Sunday with your MIL. Hope everything's OK.

Den26 - I love feeling hiccups, DD used to have them quite a lot. Took me a while to realise what they were though!

Scjipo - don't worry about the baby being too low, this one seems to be pretty low atm too. Not sure what to advise about the birth. I'd have loved a home birth if it was possible but I can understand feeling that you'd rather know exactly what's going on. Our local MW-led unit is fantastic and a home from home anyway so if that's a possibility you could look into it?

Re grobags - we've always had a couple at a time in case of accidents. When DD was tiny she preferred being swaddled though and you can always add blankets on top (especially before they get too wriggly).

myfirstbump · 16/03/2010 08:13

Morning!

Schipo - we've plumped for the Vigour/B Smart with 3 wheels, over a second hand cameleon! It's much easier to fold up and down and just felt better when we rolled it around the shop. And, for a 3 wheeler it felt sturdy too (I nearly toppled the zia over when I wobbled it... )

I know what you mean about the serious bit. I was 30 weeks on Sunday and it did suddenly get me that I'm 3/4 cooked! It's got me all emotional and unsettled and since then I just don't feel ready for this. I know it will pass, but hey, I've just had my first major weepy wobble!

Angel - love the new hair, it really suits you And I'm sure the baby will turn again by the time you get there

Mogg - sorry your MIL spoiled Sunday.

I don't think I've had the joy of BH yet, but then I don't really know what I'm looking for. Sometimes I feel like a get a really mild period cramp but it goes quickly so then I just think maybe Baby just had a stretch down there

Keep the nice birth stories coming!

myfirstbump · 16/03/2010 08:14

Forgot to say - BRB thanks for the tip about TK MAxx. I'll make sure to pop in there at the weekend!

newmomma · 16/03/2010 09:16

Morning all,

Re: grobags - Babies 'R' Us also do very good deals on proper grobags - about the same price as TKMaxx. I've found they mark some down but not all so if you take them to the till and ask them what they are its usually half the price they're marked up as. Strange but its happened twice now!

Schipo I know what you mean about missing being pregnant - I did too. Its weird to be holding your most precious baby and still miss your bump! But it soon fades... Also -regarding homebirths - my cousin had her 1st baby last year at home and would thoroughly recommend it. I was born at home and would consider one myself but we live at least an hour from a hospital and its too far for me just in case. If you wanted to have a look on her thread its really very interesting and they're a lovely bunch of girls - very supporting. Home birth thread

Also try not to worry about the head being low - as I understand it babies heads can actually be fully engaged for weeks in advance and it doesn't mean birth is imminent.

I'm feeling a bit low today - have to see the doctor later and have some bloods taken as I have a horrid itchy rash all over my tummy, chest and neck... A liver function test.

Have tried and tried not to 'google' but couldn't resist and ended up freaking myself out last night with all sorts of horror stories.

Also need to have an ECG on Thursday for weird hear palpitations I've been having.

And to top it off I've been told I've got 2 weeks before they book me in for a c/s because baby is STILL breech. I'm terrified. DS1 came 2 weeks early, away from home and I was totally unprepared... No notes, or hospital bag. So I really had my heart set on my MLU water birth this time - but its looking less and less likely.

Anyway enough of my early morning moan.

P.S. I see there is lots of pram/pushchair talk going on. I still have a nearly new (2009) Storm Quinny for sale with a brand new Dreami carrycot (as I need a double). Rosyred was interested in it but she's not sure about finances at the mo - so if any of you are - just let me know. I'll try and put some pics of it on my profile...

Hollyoaks · 16/03/2010 10:27

Just time for a quickie

BH - I get lots of them and they are painless or very mildly painful tightenings. It feels like my whole bump goes really hard and you can clearly see where the lo is lying as the muscles really clamp down. They can also be quite uncomfortable and can range in strength.

The only time to be concerned is if they get painful, you have lots of them or they fall into a regular pattern.

MW appointment yesterday, had to have iron stores tested as HB was low so will probably be on iron tablets (great for the constipation ) and protein in urine so another possible uti . It's never straight forward.

Hope everyone is well.

itshappenedagain · 16/03/2010 14:10

hello all!

just a quick post...im in th middle of making curtains and have Ds's parents evening in an hour!

thankyou all for the info about the lost cost gro bags...had got 2 from john lewis and they were £££!

glad to see everyone had a nice mothers day or a planned belated one. my mum arrived on sunday, i cooked dinner for 12 adults and 5 children and really enjoyed having everyone here, plus we had lots of deserts! yum! mum found more to clean and sort. so my house is now spotless and she also moved all my furniture for me, so im all sorted should baby arrive, even repacked hospital bag and added some sleep bras! mattress arrived this morning, only ordered on sturday...good old reliable john lewis!
am still waiting for LO's fathers arrival home, then pram can be ordered and life will be complete! lol! keeping fingers crossed that he doesnt let me down.
other than that i have consultant appointment and a growth scan tomorrow so get to see LO again!
will reply to all posts later.
sorry for the very selfish posting.

AnAngelWithin · 16/03/2010 17:20

evening all, just a quick post. Exhausted today! Been out shopping with DH. Ended up buying bathroom paint. That will keep me busy lol.

Itshappenedagain, I hope you aren't let down and you get the pram ordered!

Hollyoaks, hope you are ok

Myfirstbump, thanks, though wondering a little where you have seen pics of my hair??

Newmomma, hope you are feeling a little brighter soon

DorotheaPlenticlew · 16/03/2010 19:37

Impressed with all of you making curtains and painting rooms! I have been much less ambitious; when I have a break from DS -- I do the housework and then take a nap ...

I am finding that the tiredness has never really gone away this time around, but that's ok, there are worse things.

Oddly though, I find it really hard to get comfortable sleeping position at night tossing and turning and wedging pillows here and there , but no problem at all to fall into bed for a daytime nap and be instantly super-comfy. Weird.

Hollyoaks, newmomma, hope you are both ok, do let us know.

Den26 · 16/03/2010 20:02

Evening all...

Schipo - know what you mean about possibly missing bump. Being my first i am loving feeling all the movements, something special no one else can feel

Angel - i may have to rely on yours and ML's expert opinions!! We are looking to buy a travel system of some kind. Needs to be fairly compact though as not much room in the house for it. I use the car alot so something that can be easily folded away. There's also a fair difference in height between me and DP so needs to have extendable handles. We have been looking at 3-wheelers too, but noe essential. Also, i've read that having LO's sit up all the time leads to breathing problems so does that mean i need carry cot part as well as pushchair and car seat? Sorry!!! You'll be sorry you asked! but any suggestions welcomed

Re grow bags - i got some from ikea for under £10

sweetkitty · 16/03/2010 20:48

hi all I am in so much pain tonight don't know what I have done, had 2 cocodamol as well, it's really getting me down I'm usually so active whizzing away and to slow down and not be able to do things especially with the DC is so frustrating. Still it's only another few weeks 33 weeks tomorrow eek!

One of my friends has bought a new bugaboo bee plus, very nice, it has a front facing carrycot for a newborn and then can be front or rear facing and folds very small as well, oh and has extendable handles for tall DHs. It was £540 though ouch, I'm so jealous as I will be getting a big chunky Vibe. Have a look at the M&P Pilko travel systems as well anyone who is struggling with a pram.

Started sorting out the baby clothes from the loft, quite emotional as some of them were DD1's and now she is sitting helping me sort them at age 5, she did steal a fair load for her dollies though

Agree with whoever said TK Maxx for grobags, they also do nice changing bags at half the price.

Hollyoaks - try and get the liquid iron stuff doesn't make you as constipated.

newmomma - have they offered to try and turn the baby for you (cannot remember the name for it)? Have a look online at optimal foetal positioning, worth a try isn't it? Rashes and itching are quite common though so try not to worry.

schipo - I am the complete opposite, I always carry my babies really high, even overdue they don't seem to engage or drop at all, DD2's head didn't engage until 5 minutes before she was born and they popped my waters, then she whooshed out I think theres a way the baby gets comfy and they stay there. I will find out on Thursday if this LO has turned to face the exit as well.

brightred - which people carrier did you opt for in the end? We might be getting ours on Friday eek that means I will have to actually drive it!

Right am off to watch OBEM, cry a lot and do some knitting.

pigleychez · 16/03/2010 20:56

Lucky- I know what you mean, some of them do look abit big... bit of a OMG its got to come out moment!

MDM- loving the misheard 20lbs!

Loving the easy birth stories... there is hope then!

Angel- hope baby turns.. ive heard handstands work if your feeling energetic!?!

Mogg- Families are such nightmares!

SK- yes I remember moaning like mad at being so late. So frustrating seeing everyone else after me pop before me! Not hoping for a repeat this time!

Den- DD had hiccups all the time, at least 3/4 times a day and was the same as a newborn. Felt hiccups a few times with this one too.
I too need to sort out my bag to take to a wedding miles away at 37 weeks. Ive already sussed out the hospitals local to where we will be staying

Schipo- im now 31 weeks too and it suddenly feels abit too real!

newmomma- Hope the liver test comes back ok.

Hollyoaks- Hope the tests are ok. Know what you mean about always being something!

SK- your feeling so rough tonight.
Second the changing bags in TKmax. I got a nice OiOi bag in there for £30 instead of the normal £60/70!

DH's birthday today so been out to a local American grill place for a nice juicy steak.
SOOO full up now though!
Feel very tired too as DD was up at 5.30 this morning and then got over excited and sill at DH opening his presents- Joy.

Right OBEM time, then bed!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 16/03/2010 21:11

Den it sounds like your buggy requirements are almost identical to ours. In the end we narrowed our choice down to the bugaboo bee (which we weren't keen on when we actually had a play with it in the shop); and the Urbo and Sola from Mamas & Papas. We went for the Urbo in the end, as it's slightly narrower for our hallway, but would have been equally happy with the sola. Both are compact, fold really easily, face both ways, lie completely flat so can be used from birth without needing a separate carry-cot, and are not too heavy. I found them both really easy to operate, turn round etc. The handles are height-adjustable and they're not ridiculously overpriced. Also they look nice (in my opinion anyway!). They're both compatible with the M&P Aton or Primo Viaggio car-seats, and also (although they don't advertise this) with the maxi cosi car seat (using the same adapters as for the M&P Aton).

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 16/03/2010 22:36

Oh yes the Sola is lovely saw one in the flesh the other day will have to go look at the Urbo as well now.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 17/03/2010 07:45

SK - sorry you're feeling so rough. I know what you mean about having to slow down. I can barely do anything with DD at the moment and hate it.

Spatone really helps with iron levels and I don't find it gives me any side effects which is great.

Schipo - I really missed the bump after birth, but enjoyed the baby more so it went away quite quickly.

newmomma · 17/03/2010 09:00

Morning all.

Glad to see there's no talk of OBEM yet - I've taped it and am going to watch when DS's asleep this morning. It's the highlight of my week nearly!

Twentieth I know what you mean about slowing down - have almost been feeling guilty recently about not being able to give my son 100% attention. Much less scrabbling around on the floor and playing silly games than there used to be.

sweetkitty I've not been offered a turning procedure (apparently an ECV?) but I am going to ask my midwife about it next time I see her one Monday. I hope you feel much better today and a good nights sleep has helped with the pain.

Very impressed with people managing to paint bathrooms and make curtains!! I picked my hospital bag up off the floor yesterday with the aim of sorting through some bits and gave up immediately - it seems like such a huge task somehow. Are people taking a whole pack of nappies or just a few? And the same with maternity towels? I put full packs in and its all but filled up my bag already - definitely no room for a dressing gown. Either need to down size, or upgrade my bag!!

Den26 shameless plug... I'm selling a Quinny Buzz 3. Unless you're after a new pushchair (it's in VERY good condition) why don't you have a look at my thread... Quinny Buzz 3 for sale
It has the carrycot with it which is brand new, and you can buy a maxi-cosi car seat with it to turn it into a travel system. I only have a golf and it fits in my boot fine - in fact it lives there because our house is too small to house a pushchair, but at least it means I can't forget it!

Anyway - off to watch OBEM - tissues at the ready!!

myfirstbump · 17/03/2010 09:24

Angel don't panic! Just a little virtual praise for new hair...

Will check back later and post properly, didn't want you feeling freaked out all day!

AnAngelWithin · 17/03/2010 09:36

lol thats ok myfirstbump, I was just thinking maybe I had put a pic somewhere and not remembered!! Duhbrain i am lately!! I'm not freaked out bless ya, just know what a ditz I am lately!

Newmomma, ive packed a whole pack of maternity towels, you get through them quicker than you think! And I've put 10 nappies in. Your DP/DH can always bring some more in when he comes to visit, as long as you have enough for a few hours!

Pagen · 17/03/2010 09:55

Hello all,
I'm a regular reader but as I normally do it at work I've not had time to post myself until now! But thank you all for your stories, chats and insightful facts!! I fell I've learnt soooo much m ore from this board and mumsnet than from any of the books I've been reading at home.
I'm now officially signed off work after a bad dizzy spell at work on monday that had me whisked off to hospital for a day of sitting wround waiting to see a doctor, Friday I'm in for gestational diabetes testing..and in the meantime house arrest
I'm 34 weeks, my due date was brought forward to 27th April after consistant scans and measurements showed babs is about 33cm now, head is also low or "dropped" apparently but I'm not worried about that as I have felt all along that my dates may be out by a month and that with the dizzy spells means I would be more than happy to kick things off right now!!
However, I have also been diagnosed with thrush and strepB...I've had both before in the past when I've been run down and anaemic so I suppose its no suprise really that I've got them again now, I really didn't want to take the antibiotics, Erythromycin, for the strep (I havn't taken anything during the pregnancy, its my first and I didn't want to risk anything)but doctor insisted. Is anyone else having problems of this sort, I know thrush is common in the third trimester but I've not seen anyone mention it on here.
Anyway, time for more food and a nap I think...I'm hoping to knock this mornings dizzy spell on the ehad so i can atleast manage a small walk with my dog after lunch...fingers crossed!!!
All the best to all fellow mums to be XXX

sweetkitty · 17/03/2010 10:33

hi pagen welcome to our little thread, sorry you are feeling so poorly as well, I take it you are being induced on the 27th april then for the Group B Strep?

newmomma - have seconded what angel has said, definitely a full pack of towels if not more, first day you may be changing them every hour, nappies - well depends how long you are in for a dozen should do it as angel said you can always get someone to bring you in more.

Blubbed through OBEM last night, when the first woman got whisked away for a ECS, her poor partner left in the corridor. Then the other first time Mum she did so well, much better than me even third time and when her partner told her they had a wee girl (sob sob sob).

Went to see GP this morning who told me to keep my legs together and that I need crutches just give me the cocodamol please! Am thinking about physio though I know they said last time that my ligaments are too soft to sort out properly but even if they could do something. Oh I am the most miserable pregnant woman ever. Had rubbish nights sleep as well with the pain, I think I must move in my sleep and wake myself up then I can't get back to sleep.

On a brighter note DP is taking me off to a shopping centre today to look for baby things and some new PJs

booboomonster · 17/03/2010 14:24

Hi all it's been way too long. I have had annoying broadband problems and have just about managed to keep up with posts.

Great to hear all updates, sorry for those feeling ropey. It is all getting a bit closer now isn't it? And I know I'm (almost!) at the end of the queue, only just turned 30 weeks today. I watched OBEM last night and it all came back to me, despite having a good birth experience last time - the first time mum in last nights edition was like me - I remember yelling like she did, and blubbing afterwards from all the exhaustion/ happiness/ relief that it's over. Wow.

There were lots of posts I was going to respond to and now my mind has totally gone blank - this keeps happening to me, can anyone else relate? The only thing I can remember is that we have a Britax vigour and it's been fab. But I prefer a chunkier buggy myself - big "all terrain" (!) wheels etc.

Hope everyone's doing ok and sorry for being such a bystander these last few weeks. But I have enjoyed catching up! It's great to know how you are all doing. Loving all the tips too - I bought some of those maternity disposable bed sheet things from boots - I leaked breast milk all over the bed last time and the stains won't budge .

My total sympathies for all those feeling crap and suffering - sweetkitty, pagen and others, I can't imagine how it would be to have anything more to deal with than the sheer exhaustion that I seem to feel at the end of each day, so much admiration for you guys dealing with extra discomforts - but, the end IS IN SIGHT!

Newmomma - exactly I want to be able to spend lots of special time with DD before baby comes but can't do very much. Although she seems to enjoy it if I lie down somewhere and then climbs all over me, uses bump as a slide and covers me in toys so that's nice.

Pagen - sorry you're having a tough time Thrush is nasty, I had genital thrush after the birth last time and it was horrendous. I hope the GD testing goes well on Friday for you.

SK - sorry you're tired and miserable, hope you have fun shopping for baby things! I was referred to a physio this morning for SPD, thought I'd go along and see if they could do anything to help. Can't imagine crutches would be much use when I have to look after DD anyway

cupcakefairy · 17/03/2010 14:31

Hello ladies...
I'm wondering when our first lady is going to pop, loads of other AN threads seem to get premaure births so it could happen! (Just not me please )
I hope we can all stay antenatal til everyone is postnatal though...it's hard enough keeping up with one thread let alone two

MDM thanks soooo much, I love those links! Exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. Will show dh tonight. Think we're getting our cot tonight in the Mothercare sale, yay!

schipo I totally get what you mean about missing being pregnant already too. Once the baby is born no longer will we get lots of attention and special treatment and be able to eat what we like! I really love feeling baby move inside too so will miss that so much. Don't like the thought of a jelly belly replacing my lovely bump

Den I second the Sola vote, it was between that and the iCandy Cherry for us as they are v similar but dh and I are the same height so went for Cherry - the Sola has adjustable handle. We weren't going to bother with carrycot but a friend offered us one and said it makes a good travel cot for first few months too so we were convinced! I was also worried about baby's back with constantly being in carseat.

Love the Ikea/TK Maxx/Babies R Us tips, thanks will look there for grobags. If anyone has tips on unisex clothes that are NOT white, beige, pale brown or yellow PLEASE enlighten me. I particularly want chocolate brown, red, orange or greens.
