Due May 2010: Into the third trimester we go, can the bumps get any bigger?

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 02/02/2010 14:19

So here's the continuation of the thread previously known as Due May 2010: Where we get a 'bloom' just in time for the christmas mayhem???
Let's see if this one lasts up until the first birth... Knowing how chatty we can be, I doubt it!

booboomonster · 17/03/2010 14:39

cupcake - they had some stripy bright coloured baby gros in tkmaxx in the colours you're after. I think they are by kit and co.

pigleychez · 17/03/2010 15:03

cupcake- Have a look in H&M for coloured baby clothes. Next do have some brightly coloured sleepsuits too.
I also spotted that ASDA have some plain bright coloured sleepsuits for only £2 each.

of all this pram talk. There wasnt a great choice of rearfacing prams with carrycots when i was looking for DD. Im happy with what we got but theres lots more choice now a few years on and some of them are much smaller when folded etc.

booboomonster- welcome back

SK- the pyshio might be worth a try... nothing ventured nothing gained and all that.

Pagen- welcome aboard make sure you rest up!

Bit stressed today as my mum is showing her favourtism again between grandchildren. It really winds me up!

Bought DD a sand and watertray this morning as the water is beginning to brighten up now. (although the weekends weather is looking rather pants!)
Very stupidly though, id go to Homebase for a bag of play sand. Forgot how bloody heavy they were! Thought id wheel it out in a wheely basket thing but wasnt allowed to take that out the store so had to get a staff memeber to take it to the car for me. Was abit .
Didnt think about getting it out the car to the garden though! I managed to put it on the wheely bin top and use that to get it round the back. Wont be doing that again though!

newmomma · 17/03/2010 15:23

pigleychez I'm with you on the grandparents that can't hide their 'favourites'.

Still gets my goat now - I know I should rise above it but I feel like saying 'why do you like them better, they're no way near as nice as mine...?'

sweetkitty · 17/03/2010 15:27

hi all back from shopping trip and stuffing face with pizza. Spent small fortune in Boots, bought the following lovely items, breastpads - one box of disposables, 2 washables, maternity pads x2, maternity towels, 3 huge packs, 2 slim (note the chunky ones good for cushioning tender bits), Lansinoh cream, bottles x 2(for EBM), new toilety bags, some other toiletry bits and pieces. Oh and 4 little outfits in their buy one get one half price thing, have to admit I like the blue and the beige and cream colours . Also noted Asda do basic pants at something like £2 for a 5 pack so will be stocking up.

The woman behind the till asked me if it were my first I was laughing at all the other bits and bobs there that I bought for DD1 and now realise were useless, comb and brush (she was bald), bath and room thermometer, the full Johnsons baby bath range (irritated her skin plain water much better), cotton wool (stuck to bum), much fun buying it though and for your first you must go a bit mad it's the law.

pigley - what are you like with the playsand? Am thinking about getting some this year as well though. One of the best outdoor games is a bucket of water and an old paintbrush and get them to "paint" everything, my big two love it. Sorry about your Mum and the grandchildren divide can see why that would annoy you.

cupcake - I am utterly in love with the Sola now had a good look at it today, love the matching car seat to, don't why I am looking we need a double but if I were to get a single that would be the one I'm afraid, quite reasonable as well I thought.

Heffa/newmomma - all part and parcel of being a Mum this guilt thing, we feel guilty as we are pregnant and cannot do much with the other DC then once the baby is born we feel guilty about dividing our time between two or more.

booboomonster - welcome back, thanks for all the well wishes feel like such a moaner sometimes

sweetkitty · 17/03/2010 15:28

Forgot to add I got the new Next Summer catalogue and I am sure I saw some red babygros in there.

Hobnobfanatic · 17/03/2010 16:04

Well, call me odd, but I can't wait NOT to be pregnant! Miss my bump? Will I heck! I won't, for one minute, miss the aches, the pains, the ill-fitting clothes, the daily emergence of new stretch marks, the itchy bump where the skin is stretching close to ripping point, the kicks where I feel Baby is about to erupt, Alien-like, from my tum...

No way - roll on 7 May! I can't wait to be able to sleep for more than an hour without having to wee, shift position because I'm aching etc. And then the pain when I get up after rest... Ugh! Horrible!

Am very jealous that you all sound so organised. Still haven't thought of packing my bag and am still sorting out baby's room. I really, really renounce my hoarding ways...

Pagen · 17/03/2010 16:12

Hello all again, thank you for the kind words about my fun infections, must admit I was more concerned about having thrush during the birth and hadn't looked into the strep b as much...I've googled it now (as much a curse as a blessing!) and now I am concerned.
I'm seeing the midwife on friday to do my birth plan so I'll talk to her about the strep and thrush then. Still, hopefully they will both be cleared up before things kick off .
On a lighter note is anyone else on enforced house arrest? Just wondering how you're coping with it...its only been 2 days for me and I'm already spending way too much time on facebook and spending the rest of the time feeling frustrated because I can't do much else!

Sweetkitty - Really wish I hadn't bought that Johnsons baby bath range on special offer and that jumbo pack of cotton wool now.....LOL Keep the good advice coming!!

XXX

sweetkitty · 17/03/2010 16:20

pagen - sorry oops, I think I used the Johnsons stuff in the end, I remember ONE bottle of Johnsons baby shampoo lasted until DD1's 2nd birthday she had a tuft of hair and I had bought two huge bottles on BOGOF.

I am kind of on house arrest apart from essential journeys like nursery/school/toddlers/chocolate runs.

Well you all know I will NOT miss being pregnant one little bit. Being able to get upstairs outweighs the missing the bump bit. I am utterly fed up with being pregnant.

cupcakefairy · 17/03/2010 16:28

Thanks for the tips girls, will definitely be looking at TK Maxx this weekend!
SK I do like the beiges and whites, very 'pure' and baby-like...but I also just wanted something a bit more colourful. As you know what you're having it must be lovely to be able to combine those with blues and other boy-like designs!

Pagen I'd heard cotton wool was much better than wipes in the first few weeks as baby's skin is sensitive, but to put vaseline on baby's bum so the tar-like poos don't stick to them and end up in a big poo-and-cotton-wool-nightmare (mmm lovely!) so might not be a wasted purchase!

I really need to get to Boots and start stocking up on maternity pads etc just can't bring myself to yet...

mustbemadno3 · 17/03/2010 17:16

pagen just read your post, ive had terrible pains and feel really poorly anyway my swab results from last week came back with thrush and bacterial infection of some sort, not sure what, maybe strep. On antibiotics but i also have a water infection which they have sent off for something else and apparently i need treating with diff antibiotics for that. Feel really poorly arms and legs sore and basically feel like I have shingles.
Im really scared I have a scan in morning which was pre booked to check the placenta position as its low lying. But I feel terrible, my cousin seems to think its pre eclampsia but the gp never checked my blood pressure so im trying to hold out til tommoro as my apointment is 830 a.m.
Is this how you feel with your infections?

Hollyoaks · 17/03/2010 17:26

Hi all, just a quickie 'me' post. Cried at OBEM last night, especially when the little girl was born and when the other dad said 'your son, our son'. Blub.

Nursery carpet is down and cot is up. DD had a mini melt down when she couldn't get in it, very jealous, especially when everything new in the house seems to be baby-related. Need to go and get some new toys for when the baby arrives.

Thanks for all the kind messages and info on the liquid iron. Will see dr about iron levels and cyst tomorrow night, will let you know how it goes.

SK - sorry your feeling so rough, everything is worse when you can't sleep either.

at all you 30-something weekers, still only 29 weeks . Sick of being pg but starting to get very nervous, May 31st isn't that far away.

Hope everyone is well, welcome pagan.

SquirtsMum · 17/03/2010 17:27

Afternoon all, just a quick post before reading through the 8 pages that have sprung up since i last looked!!

Finally unpacked all the boxes after the house move on friday and am absolutely shattered, first day off since early last week (worked the morning of the move ) Sofa is calling for a snooze and tbh i ain't saying no lol

Have 3 and a bit weeks left at work before mat leave but found out i have 10days hols to take before 1st April which has throughly annoyed me - there is no way in hell i can get the nxt 2 weeks off as lots of other ppl have hols that they have only just found out about too and i can't carry any over to nxt year and the company won't pay me for them so it looks like i'll lose them.... not a happy bunny (i thought i had maybe a day or 2 hols left, if i'd known about the 10days i would have taken them by now!!) So looks like i'm working my final 18 shifts left instead of 8 (btw the count down started at 50 shifts to go lol)

Told DP relly's about stuff we'd actually use for Squirt so if they are going to get us stuff it won't be money wasted, well so far i've got the steriliser and the sling that was on the list [slightly smug emoticon], his family were really glad about the idea's apparently as they had all picked out stuff that was twice as expensive and pointless (lots of toys/clothes etc)

Haven't even thought about hospital bag what with the move and stuff so its my thing to do in the nxt week, somehow i think it'll be more suitcase than bag hehehe

Please tell me i'm not the only one slightly fecking scared about our little ones joining us very soon? 33wks now, BH pretty much daily, heavy bump, barely able to walk to the local shops without needing a sit down, not to mention the constant thirst leading to the need to pee, well, constantly, the foot wedged into my ribs, a head bouncing off my fanjo, no real comfortable sleeping/sitting position - all this seems like a holiday compared to the birth!!

xxxx

memorylapse · 17/03/2010 18:33

quick post as have only got in from most of the day sat in high risk clinic..and was up all night with dd2 who had constant vomiting...

growth scan shows a very big baby..tummy is off the top centile line..insulin has been turned up again..

scarier still..baby has fully engaged and due to the amount of BH, showy mucous and period type pains Ive had, my cons thinks she may put in an earlier appearance...but what ever happens my cons said she will probably look to induce at 37 weeks..thats only 4 weeks away

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 17/03/2010 19:50

Pigley - sorry to hear about the favouritism thing, that must be really upsetting Impressed with you lugging the sand around. DD's been out in her sandpit this week and loving it. I brought her in from it the other day, carefully took her clothes off so it didn't go everywhere (DH is a bit sand-phobic) and then she brushed her hands off down my cleavage

SK - I've been trying to clear out some of the pointless stuff we bought first time round, I have stacks of cotton wool that I've never really used.

Pagen - was on house arrest a bit with my first and it was a nightmare, I got so bored. Spent ages emailing friends and then getting a bit sulky because no-one emailed back immediately (forgetting that they were all busy with jobs and not just sitting at a computer hitting 'refresh').

Mustbemadno3 - sure you know the symptoms of pre-eclampsia but just in case - headache, bump pain high up, oedema, visual disturbances? My MWs drill them into me all the time because I'm at risk so am always on the lookout. If you are worried about pre-eclampsia then I'd ring someone because it can be quite serious. All the infections must make you feel terrible though

SquirtsMum - congratulations on the move, hope you're settling in well. Don't worry about hospital suitcase rather than bag - I took in loads of stuff (my DSis mocked me a bit) but needed it all and felt v.glad I had it.

Memorylapse - sorry you've had another dramatic day. It all sounds very scary Can't believe your LO may be here so soon. Hope you (and your DD2) are OK and have a quiet night.

Den26 · 17/03/2010 21:06

Hi All, thanks for all the buggy suggestions! I checked out the sola and really like it!! Going out this weekend hopefully to see one in the flesh.

Squirtsmum - glad move went well - with you on the freaking out, i've no idea what i'v let myself in for!

Memorylapse - still impressed with all your having to go through.

SK - have compared my boots purchases with yours and happy that i'm on the right track!!

Had MW appointment today - she listened into the HB and said 'oh i definately thought you were having a boy but this is telling me girl today!!!' what does that mean!! Has freaked DP out as he is totally expecting blue! Also came away with lovely goodies such as pile cream, lactulose and canesten

schipo · 17/03/2010 21:37

Evening

20thC - thanks for reassurance about low baby. They do have birthing pools at my current hospital and my original plan was to go with their MWU. I did have the excuse that DH was reluctant to do it at home and now I don't have that anymore so have to make my own decision. It was much easier before. I can really imagine it is lovely not to worry about going to hospital at the right time and to go to bed afterwards in your own bed but so often people end up disappointed. My mum's births weren't that straight forward either so it's unlikely in the end I'll have an easy one I guess.

I'm also unnerved when complete strangers tell me to take all the drugs on offer! Is anyone here requesting an epidural straight off?

newmomma - thanks link to the home birth thread - I've bookmarked it and will find time to absorb. I'll see if it makes it seem more or less appealing.
Hope your liver/ecg tests went well btw and hope your baby turns soon too. I can't quite believe they do cs's just because of breech positioning. Or do you want one for other reasons?

hollyoaks - hope you get good results for your tests too and angel I'm also hoping your baby turns

itshappenedagain - curtains - wow! i guess I should be doing some of that soon too. Fingers crossed you get good news on the pram front soon btw

sweetkitty - I can't imagine what pain you're in. A friend of mine (due in a few weeks) was told by her doctor to use crutches for the spd she's developed recently too. I can't see what use they'd be for either of you with other kids to look after. I saw a woman in antenatal clinic on some and it looked like hard enough work managing just a coat and bag!

Anyway least your DD1 will be old enough now to bear witness and remind the younger ones how much suffering you went though for them all. Speaking of your eldest btw, I was interested in what you said about her having just a tuft of hair until she was two. That's all I had too and old women would stop my mum in the street and tell her that it would be curly when it came. Did you get that too? As it turns out my hair never gets very curly these days - but tangled and scraggly yes Looking forward to seeing if my baby will come with hair or not.

pagan, welcome and good luck with your tests and confinement. I'm dying for some house arrest tbh.

myfirstbump/booboomonster - I'd love to know what shops you found your britax prams in. I've yet to find one apart from online.

pigley - sad about your mum

hobnob - enjoyed your post about not missing bump I am also getting sick of all this sleeping on your left. I keep waking up with an painful left hip, or finding myself on right or on back and feel guilty. It will be lovely to sleep in any position I like, and to have baths of course.

mustbemad - hope it isn't pre-eclampsia!

ML - 4 weeks! that's no time at all!

fwiw my tip for cheap grobags is ebay. There are plenty of unused ones available. I got a john lewis 1 tog one for a few pounds and also a gorgeous merino one that you're supposed to be able to use at all temperatures. It was much less than half rrp.

Hobnobfanatic · 17/03/2010 21:51

AH, BATHS! Schipo you've reminded me how much I miss my hours in the tub! Baths are no fun at all when you have to sit bolt upright. Shudder!

Memory - an early appearance would probably be a good thing, given all the hassles you've had. Better out than in - provided baby is ready. Sounding by the size, she is nearly cooked!

Den 26 with my first DD, my mw admitted after she was born that she was shocked, as her heartbeat was consistently that of a boy's! I thought it was an old wives' tale about girls having a FHR above 140 - or whatever it is - but mw was quite convinced DD was going to be a boy!

Question: I have been sooo breathless, even when sitting or lying down. It just feels like I can't breathe fully - only partially. Initially I figured LO is lying squashed against my lungs or something, btu it's come back again tonight and my imagination is going into overdrive. Anyone else have this?

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 18/03/2010 08:09

Schipo - I had an epidural first time round and don't regret it but I wouldn't ask for it again straight off. It does have downsides (strapped to the bed wasn't fun) so I would wait and see how you feel really.

Our local Midwife Unit is next door and is a real home from home, fantastic post-natal rooms with ensuite bathrooms, delicious food, lovely midwives, a wonderful little community room. The birthing room looks amazing as well (I spend a lot of time up there for antenatal appointments and stayed there briefly after DD was born) and I would love to labour there - especially since we're so close that it would be very easy. I don't know how other MLUs compare though. Have you been to look round your nearest one? It might help you make a decision. Home births look amazing too though if you're low risk enough to have one.

Re hair - my DD was bald and just had a bit of hair until she was 1 and then it started really growing. Now (20 months) it's past her shoulders but incredibly curly. Really tight corkscrew curls (although they tend to look rather frizzy) so you can't see the length at all unless it's wet. Just like her daddy.

Sleeping in any position you like again is fantastic, I remember being so excited when I realised I could do that.

Hobnobfanatic - I have moments when I feel really breathless for a while. Doesn't seem to follow any particular pattern, sometimes in bed, sometimes just sitting down. I've mentioned to MWs and they didn't seem terribly concerned so probably nothing.

Den26 - old wives tale says that girls heartbeats are faster than boys. This seems to have held to true in my family but not sure if it has any basis in truth at all (prob. not!)

We watched OBEM last night and got very teary. Felt very sad for the dad when Shelagh was whisked off into surgery, he looked so bereft and scared. Glad it was all OK though.

newmomma · 18/03/2010 08:59

schipo hope you get time to read the thread - it really does make homebirths seem like a wonderful experience.

No results on the ecg (supposed ot have it today but have postponed as woken up with horrid cold) and blood results aren't back yet so no idea about the liver function. Itching is driving me insane though.

They do want to book the c/s purely for the fact that baby is breech. I've had a 'normal delivery' once so am terrified of a c/s and am doing everything I can to NOT have the c/s. Suppose I have to wait and see whether the scan shows a foot or bum first baby to tell whether or not I can try for a vaginal breech delivery.

Lots of people saying they didn't bother with cotton wool - but I did for several months. It really didn't seem like much more of a hassle and its much gentler on delicate skin I think.

VERY interesting to hear about the slightly different heart rates for the difference between the two sexes. I wonder if there is any reason why that might be? I'll deffo ask the mw what she thinks next time I see her as I currently DO NOT believe the sex that the sonographers have told me mine is...

Hobnobfanatic I would speak to your mw if you're concerned. But I have to say that I get really breathless when pregnant and generally need to sit down when I've walked up the stairs! . I think its to do with the extra load you're carrying and the additional blood your heart is having to pump. (I love hobnobs too!!!!)

Yorky · 18/03/2010 09:03

Pagan - about group B strep, don't believe everything you read on the internet, the vast majority of it is horror stories. When you manage to get some facts early on set GBS infection is a very rare complication for newborns, but unfortunately when it does go wrong it is pretty serious. I did tons of research when I was found to be GBS+ with DD and I chose not to have the IVABx in labour as the ABs carry their own risks, and its a massive dose they give you.

Had a hospital appointment last Thurs at how long it takes for me to come in and report back! DH didn't come with me in the end as D was ill and didn't fancy leaving her with a babysitter which meant I burst into tears when Dr said she wanted me to deliver in hospital. DH is coming with me to next MW appt (Tues) and backing me up that we still intend to have this baby at home. Annoyingly a CMW had led me to think that the size of DD might get me a growth scan which I was looking forward to and ddidn't get. The concern was over the fact that I bled for over 8wks after DD and had a night in hospital (can you believe they wouldn't let her stay with me, or provide me a breastpump?!) and had scan for suspected retained products of conception, the problem resolved itself naturally, but now she wants me to deliver in hospital - none of her arguments convinced me it would make any difference, even with a GBS swab booked for when we get back from holiday as guidelines are after one confirmed GBS+ pg you don't need ABx for the next one

Good luck to everyone hoping for HB

ML watching this space closely - you could be our first baby! but might be less stressful if you can at least wait till April

itshappenedagain · 18/03/2010 09:06

morning all!

glad to hear we are all doing much better.

ML- 4 weeks!bet theat made you get everything ready and now LO wont want to come out, but you have no choice with inuction/CS. my DS was the same, he was a wopper and i was glad in many ways they induced me.

den26 old wives tale...that some midwives stil stick to is, if heartbeat sounds like a train its a boy and if it sounds like a galloping hourse its a girl...no actual testing so really just a load of shite! lol!

i had my consultants appointment yesteday and growth scan, steriods havent affected baby, and is still within the normal range, asthma still playing up and another chest infection last week meant yet another course of antibiotics. i have an exam in a couple of weeks so im hoping that she stays in place until i have done the exam, would be much easier.fingers crossed. still the best he will give me at the present time is MLU, however, he said if i get no more infectrions and my peak flow is within normal range and stays that way for the next 6 weeks he may let me have my home birth...and just when i have booked a tour of the hospital!
anyway have to go midwives appointment!

AnAngelWithin · 18/03/2010 09:33

morning all. hope you are all well.

ML i think LO will be imaptient!!!

Itshappenedagain, glad the consultant went ok.

Pigley, the favouritism thing is an issue here too! Both my mother and DHs parents favour ds1 over all the others. The others are noticing this now though and it hurts their feelings

I feel very very tired today. I was going to start painting the bathroom but DH has banned me

Packed my hospital bag last night Sat there sobbing while I was doing it. I really don't want to go to hospital

Pagen · 18/03/2010 09:46

Good morning all!
Another rough night, went up to bed at 10 and was woken at 2 by my man finally coming up after working on some papers for work till the wee hours..that kicked the bump off on one of his lambada practise session so I had to get up for a couple of hours. Then up again at 6:30 feeling tierd, weepy, heavy etc...
My beloved eventually got up at 9 after a long lie-in, complained about how tierd he was and asked me if i could have the dog for the day as he was going to be too busy to take him out this morning and he would just be stuck in the office....well as I'm on house arrest he isn't going to get much exercise from me and an over-energetic, under-walked dog is not much fun when I'm feeling like this..I waited till Chris left for work then started the tears...again...*Sigh

SweetKitty - I'm with you, bring on the labour!! I've had enough of this now, getting tierd just walking up the stairs is getting pretty old!

Cupcakefairy - The vaseline is on my shopping list, also olive oil for keeping babe nice and greased and warding off the dry skin.

MustbemadNo3 - Oh how rotten for you! No, I have to say I havn't really had any of your aches and pains, besides the typical achy legs in the evening. I'm not even retaining water much with the swollen ankles etc... except for this reservoir in front of course!
Just out of interest what antibiotics has your Dr put you on? I'm on Erythromycin, another week to go and then I can take the canosten again (The antibiotics have killed the good bacteria too so the thrush is back with avengeance, I have it orally too so feel pretty disgusting at the moment).

Den26 - Sexing the babes by the heartbeat now, thats another new one on me...a couple of weeks ago i was told mine was definatley a girl because of my cheeks (facial)....???? Does it get any wierder than that! I have also had a friend swing a ring over my tummy and announce it a girl, and the usual..."its the way you're carrying it."

HobNobFanatic - I get the breathlessness on and off too, the first time I got it i remember getting very panicky (Which just made it worse) thinking I was having a heart attack or something! Now I just try and rest and relax when it happens until it eases, what else can you do I've been told the feeling of having a full breath and all your organs settling back down into the space left by your newborn is one of the perks of childbirth - can't wait!!

Yorky - Thankyou for the advice and support, its comforting to hear from other mums who are or have been through the same thing. Its easy to feel very alone coping with all this even when you have a good support network.

Right, I'm going to take mutley out in the front garden, for a change of scenery, and hope some kind passerby will volunteer to adopt him....only joking

LuckyC · 18/03/2010 09:54

Hi all - just hopping on to check on you all and to tell you that we saw two lambs yesterday and they were frolicking, so spring is on the way. At last.

All those newbies battling with prams - I am with you - WHY IS THIS SO HARD?

I also relate to everyone saying that they will miss their bumps. I am trying to think of a good way of commemorating my bump - any suggestions? Would love a cast but we have NOWHERE to put it. Photos, I guess?

Newmomma how is your health? How are you feeling? I So hope your baby turns. Mine is currently head down-ish but firmly back to back. I am now dedicated to turning her. I am sure you know about it already but just in case here is the Spinning Babies site, which is supposed to be very good: www.spinningbabies.com/

Pagen Have you taken the erythromycin for the Strep? I had a course last week which left me feeling like I had gone 3 rounds with Mike Tyson. I managed to catch the attendant thrush early with a canesten duo and am going to keep using the cream externally (sorry tmi) until the tube is finished. I also drank 2-3 of those stupid probiotic drinks and ate 2-3 probiotic yoghurts a day. And ate as well as I could, avoiuding all bad-for-thrush foods. I reckon half my problems are anaemia-related too and have had extra bloods done. Hope you manage to knock the thrush.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 18/03/2010 10:00

Oh wow, just checked in to have a quick read before properly getting on with work, and and at the number (and length) of posts since yesterday lunchtime. Started reading but have to do some work now! Just marking my place really, will try to respond properly later.

Got as far as Cupcake 's comment about brightly coloured baby clothes. There are some gorgeous coloured sleepsuits and blankets here which is where I always (very lazily) buy new baby presents for friends. They're not cheap, but lovely for the odd one-off item.

More later. Hope you all have a lovely day.

OP posts:
