Due May 2010: Into the third trimester we go, can the bumps get any bigger?

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 02/02/2010 14:19

So here's the continuation of the thread previously known as Due May 2010: Where we get a 'bloom' just in time for the christmas mayhem???
Let's see if this one lasts up until the first birth... Knowing how chatty we can be, I doubt it!

wibbela..your GTT result is excellent..it shows your body is producing insulin well and dealing with the glucose, you will have felt poopy as the glucose drink will have caused your blood sugar to rise..then fall sharply as it was burnt off.
When I had mine..my fasting was 4.4 but my after glucose was 8.6..hence the diagnosis..whilst I was on the steroids in hospital..my blood sugars were staying constantly at 15 poor baby must have been high as a kite

cupcakefairy · 14/02/2010 16:56

Hooray, success with pics...bump and blanket are up

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 14/02/2010 17:02

Love the pics Cupcake! Am impressed with your knitting project - could you give my mum a tip or two for tasteful blanket knitting please?!

Have put a pic of my 6 month bump up, still not very impressive I'm afraid, but growing gradually.

mumofeag · 14/02/2010 17:23

I am so grateful for this thread-although am on baby number 3 its still a bit scary! Am interested to hear from other mums who have had GTT as a result of having previously large babies? My first DS was 9lb 11oz born by ECS my second DS was 10lb 4oz born naturally but nasty 4th degree tear hence elective section this time......no history of diabetes in family & was normal weight pre-pregnancy (although am pretty big now!)
I understand why I need a GTT but am wondering if I could just be somebody who has big babies-DH is a big fella! Would appreciate hearing about others experiences!

cupcakefairy · 14/02/2010 17:29

Oh my word Marquise you are tiny! I feel like a right lump now

Carikube · 14/02/2010 18:51

Alimouse love the fake names you came up with for DS2. We keep referring to this baby as Sybil (derived from sibling to dd....) and my MIL was traumatised when she heard it as she honestly thought that was the name we had chosen.

Sorry to hear you've had another hard time of it memorylapse and really hope this is the last of the pregnancy drama for you.

Not a very romantic day round here as DH has gone to watch the football whilst I look after dd - just as well we don't celebrate Valentine's in this house

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 14/02/2010 19:19

Pigley - love your DH thinking your waters had broken, must have been quite a shock for a second.

MDM - My MIL insisted on knitting loads of blue stuff which was OK but just ends up being a bit weird. She also kept buying stuff for the nursery (like a rug) in completely different colours to what we had. I think we just chickened out and put it all away in cupboards rather than saying anything. Could you have a conversation with your mum about what colours you're thinking of?

ML - sorry you've been having such a tough time. Glad you're home now though

Mumofeag - welcome to the thread

Den26 - sadly, I think vanity does go completely out of the window.

Wibblela - glad your GT was normal, must be a relief. I have mine on Wednesday, looking forward to lying down for a couple of hours.

Cupcakefairy - beautiful blanket

Happy Valentine's Day to all We haven't really done anything because it's my BIL's birthday yesterday and my nephew's tomorrow so have been at a birthday bonfire for them all day. Might have a nice meal now though.

tinylion · 14/02/2010 19:39

hullo! Have slipped off thread as been SOOOOOOOO ridiculously tired (bet I'm not the only one!) Baby is due 14th May and now (woohooo!) officially in the third trimester. Look like a small round weeble. Snapped at my FIL today who said "how will you get any bigger? what will happen?" I was tempted to shout "burst all over the floor" and run away. I told hiim I was fine for my dates, but he looked unconvinced. Mind you he is 200 years old and looks like a small brown nut and never goes anywhere so you can't blame him.

Please can I go on the long list of due dates? Second baby, know it is a boy and calling it George (probably like half the population, does seem a very popular name).

Been so tired, have had bloods taken for iron levels and under active thyroid. But think it is just pregnancy. Going next week for Anti D injection (in my bum). Have got all new born baby clothes washed and ready in drawers and bought this week a mahoosive pack of newborn nappies. Determined to be organised this time as first baby came early..

Am so grumpy I've been ranting at the cat at the state of his litter tray...very short tempered at the moment with absolutely NO SENSE OF HUMOUR as hate pregnancy so much. I'm so uncomfortable already, as 4 foot 11 and baby right up near my stomach bleurgh.

Bring on this baby!!!!!!!!!!!

becks130 · 14/02/2010 20:17

Hi All,

Just wanted to let you all know the good news, I had a beautiful baby girl last Sunday, she weighed 8lb 4oz and was 54.5cm long and she was 10 days early!! We've named her Analise.

She is a absolute star, sleeps A LOT and only cries when she needs a feed

xx

Sweetpeasmum · 14/02/2010 20:33

Evening all

Glad to hear you're home and well ML although your time in hospital sounds more eventful than One Born Every Minute. Fingers crossed for a really dull 3rd trimester!

We're like Carikube here and don't generally celebrate Valentines Day so I was quite taken aback by the lovely box of chocs I was presented with this morning. Feel a bit guilty about not getting DH anything - he has pointed out that he didn't do it to score points but wanted to do something nice for me. Poor love has spent all weekend looking after DS while I try to finish an OU assignment (and sneek on here for a lurk and a skive) so will have to be extra nice to him.

I haven't prepared anything for the new baby and am quite hoping that we'll be able to dig out everything we need should it come early. Only the big things like the car seat are in the loft, the cot is still up as DS still flits between it and his bed on a bad day, and I know we haven't thrown any of the essentials away. I must get round to buying some appropriately sized nappies and packing a hospital bag soon, then I won't need to worry too much.

I don't know about anyone else but this pregnancy I only seem to be able to focus on the crocadile that is nearest the canoe and am ignoring the massive one that is only 14 weeks away! So much easier to ignore it this time round.

Hope all's well and am feeling really sorry for those with sickness returning, what a nightmare, SPD and general falling-apartedness. I can join in on the uncomfortable front but can only boast a short episode of cramp at 2am this morning I'm afraid, so not really qualified for empathising at the moment - I'm sure my time will come.

Take care - X

schipo · 14/02/2010 23:42

Good idea about collecting small bottles of shampoo etc Angel - reminds me to dig some out before I put everything into storage. Discovered yesterday that I will be moving twice next in next two months. We're going to have to put everything into storage and get a short term let. DH suggests we look at it like a holiday.

andromeda is a fantastic name heffa - v versatile too

27 weeks today and bump seems huge. I think it makes your look v neat CupCake. Meant to take some pics today but didn't get around to it. I keep bumping it into things and it's starting to feel really heavy. Can't believe it can keep growing for three months at this rate. Hoping I'm just at the end of a growth spurt. If not I'm going to start investing in support clothing

hobnob, pleased you got confirmation of baby's gender at the scan. Did you think Baby Bond's service was good? Were they thorough about looking at measurements etc too? I'm still thinking about it and they do seem like one of the best options I've seen.

pigley I feel for your dh. Don't want to hear of anyone's waters going for many weeks yet.

Pleased to hear you got out of hospital with your baby in right place ML. Were the babies born early on your ward ok?

Fingers crossed for uneventful third trimesters all round here!

Nice to have you join us mumofeag

memorylapse · 15/02/2010 00:42

schipo..the prem babies born swere fine when I came home yesterday..fingers crossed..the lady who gave birth in her bed was full term but baby was a tiny 6lbs..I had a nice snuggle with her and got my newborn baby fix

on the mini toilitries front..Asda are great for travel stuff..they have a huge range..I tend to get the tresemme mini bottles of shampoo and conditioner and the foamburst shower gel for holidays, so may do the same for hospital bag. I cant beleive how organised you all are..havent even thought of hospital bag etc yet..have barely anything for baby..was going to wait until I was about 34 weeks..mind you thats only 5 weeks away..eek

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 15/02/2010 07:40

Sweetpeasmum - know what you mean about the crocodile, I keep focusing on minor things and trying not to think about all the huge stuff I need to get done.

Thanks Schipo We like it! It does make a bit difficult this time round though to find something that goes with it without making us look really poncy. Moving twice in two months . Is the second move into somewhere you're buying? You're very brave, I couldn't hack one move in the last pg, let alone two

I collect the small bottles on toiletries for holidays and hospital bag too, they're very useful.

AliMouse · 15/02/2010 09:06

Hi everyone,

Just adding myself to the list.

Did anyone read the article in the style section of the Sunday Times called 'Are you Getting Enough' referring to sleep? Insisting on 8 hours is all well and good if you have a live in nanny but otherwise, how the hell? I have a toddler that has an overactive imagination and has nightmares most nights and a husband that has been working nights and getting in at 2am who is also a seasoned snorer. Plus a baby in my belly that likes to tickle my bladder at about 3-4am. Not a chance. Got the half term week off and am fully intending to slip in a few power naps if possible to compensate!

morning all!!

feeling bit better today, I've had horrid stomach cramps and running to the toilet all yesterday ds1 was sick the night before as well

Rang up and booked my 28 week home visit for 1st march. Got the consultant a week on thursday.

Electricians been, decided the fire was too old to repair, pulled it off the wall and ordered a new one

cupcakefairy · 15/02/2010 10:51

Hi tinylion that cracked me up about your FIL... people keep telling me I'm huge too and makes me want to scream. I do worry like you schipo how on earth I can grow for 3 more months. Belly button is well and truly making its way outwards now.

sweetpea I'm relieved you said about cramping- I woke with it this morning at 5am too and lay there going 'pleasedon'tcomeearly, pleasedon'tcomeearly, pleasedon'tcomeearly' (my first response to any kind of pain I get in my tummy!) - I'm guessing cramping is quite normal then.

Seriously though, everyone said wind is bad in pregnancy & I didn't really believe them but I am finding it quite hard to control the last couple of weeks! Why is pregnancy so undignified??

AnAngelWithin · 15/02/2010 11:00

cupcake, i know what you mean!!! i hate any kind of pains, and having an upset stomach and cramps has really put me on edge!

Hobnobfanatic · 15/02/2010 11:09

Schipo - the Baby Bond basic package I went for (£139) said it was a health check, gender (if wanted) etc plus the aesthetic cooing over a baby. But actually, all we got was the cooing - and the gender when we asked. They didn't do any of the checks that we'd had with the other scans but it didn't dawn on me until after I was on my way home, as we all got so caught up in looking at LO and getting the cutest footage and pics. We've had three thorough scans before - including the nuchal that we paid for - so I'm hoping all is well.

But I would stress that you want the health bit when you get into the clinic, because it seems that most people just want the frivolous 'looking at hte baby' bit!

I guess each clinic is different - we went to the Cirencester one.

whimsicalname · 15/02/2010 12:06

Hello everyone
I'm new! Due 30th May with number 3. Don't know what we're getting. Already have 2 lovely boys, and would like another lovely boy to play with his big brothers, or a lovely girl to play with hers!

Don't know if this is the place to ask, but have been really wondering what people are doing about cars for three kids? Can you actually fit 3 car seats across a back seat? I really don't want to have to buy a new (old) car (is there a stingy face to make). Nor do I want to spend the next year sitting in the middle of the back whenever we all go anywhere.

All the best to you all, and pleased to meet you.
x

sweetkitty · 15/02/2010 13:22

whimiscalname - welcome to the thread and congratulations, if you look on MN there is a thread a week about fitting 3 car seats across the back of a car. We currently have a CMAX and although they do fit it is a nightmare doing up seatbelts in the highback boosters.

Alimouse - welcome as well don't know if I have said that to you yet, am with you on the sleep thing although DP tends to get up for the older 3 just now and will be doing it once DS is here as I have to BF every night.

ML - what an eventful time you are having, I second Asda for the travel stuff I think I still have mine from last time too glad the wee babies are doing well too, I was cooing over a 12 day old at the weekend, she was SO tiny.

Project for this week is buy some wool and start on a blanket,I made one for DD3 last time, made a cardigan as well but it went wrong at the end

Was very down last night, have tonnes of ironing to do and had to sit down and do it and it was so uncomfy then I dropped the iron and burnt the carpet. I am utterly fed up of the SPD now, on a bad night I can hardly walk, am having to take painkillers every day now. Trying to limit them though. Other project is getting someone to do the ironing for me.

Sorry to anyone else I haven't mentioned personally theres too many posts but I am reading everyones news.

Have all 3 DDs at home today so once DD3 is down for her nap we are going to paint some toenails and do some drawing and stop the big 2 from murdering each other.

sweetkitty · 15/02/2010 13:33

I've have requested some of you as friends in case you are wondering who the crazy lady is, my first name is double barrelled.

Will try and add more of you later or feel free to add me

Carikube · 15/02/2010 13:39

Tinylion I'm now concerned about the anti-D in the bum - last pg I had them both in my arm and I was hoping that it would be the same this time round. I hope that the bum thing is just in your area then rather than the fact that they've reduced it from 2 injections to 1 . Mine is booked for about 3 weeks time as they won't do it until I'm 30 wks...

sweetkitty hope you're having a better day today than yesterday. I had a really bad day on Saturday and spent a lot of time in tears, going on at DH that I don't know what we're going to do with DD when I'm in labour and how I don't think I want to go through it again (bit late now to decide that I think!). I know it was just hormones but I think hitting 3rd trimester brings it all that much closer!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 15/02/2010 14:01

Logged on to ask a quick question, and it looks like the thread has moved on loads again this morning! I don't have time for a proper post, as I'm at work, but will ask quick question now and respond to everyone's posts this evening.

I was going to join the facebook group, and wondered a) if it will then say on my homepage that I've joined the group (not sure I'm ready to admit to my RL friends that I'm on MN!!)

Hello everyone, just adding myself to the list...

Only just starting to get organised now at 25+5. We've reserved the pram - a 4 wheeler from Leebruss as it needs to be sturdy enough to accommodate our lifestyle, even though I secretly hanker after one of those neat city type buggies. My SIL has offered us her cot, so we'll need to get a new mattress. Any idea where you can get these from? Mothercare has been particularly unhelpful where we are and I want to actually see and feel a mattress before ordering online. I'm all over ebay for bargains (currently looking for a car safe auto-carrycot as we've got at least 3 long car journeys before baby is even 3 months old), but really not sure what else I need to get. Might check out that book someone mentioned earlier in the thread.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 15/02/2010 14:15

Alimouse - didn't read the article but am def. not getting enough! Combination of baby kicking/vivid dreams and bump making me uncomfortable is making me v.tired.

Angel - glad your electrician has ordered you a new fire. Glad you're feeling a bit better, how's your DS1?

Cupcakefairy - not sure I can grow much more either. I know I will, but I'm sure I'm not far off the size I was at full term with DD.

Welcome Whimsicalname

SK - hope you're having a better day today.

I spent the morning at work helping kids on half term make a Hungry Caterpillar collage which was fun but manic.
