Due May 2010: Into the third trimester we go, can the bumps get any bigger?

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 02/02/2010 14:19

So here's the continuation of the thread previously known as Due May 2010: Where we get a 'bloom' just in time for the christmas mayhem???
Let's see if this one lasts up until the first birth... Knowing how chatty we can be, I doubt it!

Not much help on the gas and air...but DO make sure the valve is working. I spent 30 minutes sucking away on it before a different MW walked in and said oh thats a funny noise, let me see that.. Oh the Valves not working properly! I was not impressed!- I had said I didnt think it was doing much but was told to keep going!
When I got a working valve though I dismissed it straightaway as I felt very sick and woozy from it.

Katey- Hope you get some rest and feel better soon. I felt sick last night and rough this morning. Felt very faint walking around Asda earlier.

Mustbemad- I too like the name Sofia. Typically DH isnt so keen. Hes very quick to dismiss names but not so forcoming at suggestions!

MDM- No extra vitamins here.

Lucky- Glad you got on well with your Doula.

Angel- about the heating. How annoying. I agree about trying to block the drafts. OUr first flat was bit draft like that and we bought a foam strip thing from BandQ that helped quite a bit.. Only a few quid if I recall.

Moggmum- Yes im sure RyanAir would love that! Make sure you take plenty of change.. Arent they the ones that now charge for the loos?

Cupcake- Glad your MW visit was better
Im another list maker. Theres always a few on the go here!
Ive started on for my hospital bag. I will need to start collecting stuff soonish as i will need to take my bag with me when we go to a friends wedding 3 weeks before due date..Just in case as its not local at all!

SK- I too need to send DH up in the loft to see exactly what we do have hidden away up there.

Got a bargin today in Asda. They had a small section of sale things. Packs of sleepsuits and vests. Mostly in pinks and blues but I managed to get a pack of 3 sleepsuits in White, yellow and pale green for £2.50! Might be worth a peek ladies if your near and know babys sex

Has anyone heard from ForcesSweetheart? Haven't seen her on here for a while. Forces - if you're lurking with no time to post, hope you're ok!

Hello everybody,
I watched the programme, and couldnt believe what a massive twat steve was. How helpful of him to try and lock her in the toilet. Also kept shouting "why is her son in there! why is he trying to look?".
LuckyC i cant belive it either. letting agents are v pissed off with her too. my stress levels are through the roof!
angel hope you get warm soon, hot water bottles all round!
cupcake no lists here yet, waiting to find somewhere to live - but ordered the book that MDM reccomended and it is fantastic. so glad the MW was better today.
MDM been taking some solgar vits (when i remember) but I am a veggie so need all the help i can get. Also have heard some people say that your jaw can hurt for ages after if you bite too hard on the G&A!
moggmum we are flying next week too, did you get a doctors letter, or are you just taking your notes?
The crazy dreams are still a nightly feature, lots of prem babies and ex boyfriends! Thinking about having my mum to the birth, she is making sure i know how scared she is though, so i am reconsidering my invitation.
mustbemad love the names, you are lucky to have an italian surname to go with them, ours is a big irish mouthful!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 12/02/2010 20:42

Wow, loads of posts to catch up on!

No-one took gas and air away from me for pushing but I did stop using it at that point I think - second stage was 10 minutes and I think I just kind of got tunnel vision and didn't even think about the gas and air. I had the tube not the mask and loved having something to bite down on.

Pigley - love your Mum's names! MIL comes up with loads of names that we really hate, just have to smile sweetly and nod.

MDM - I'm taking Spatone atm because I started to feel a bit tired and it helped my iron levels last time (I had anaemia in last pg).

Loving all the names! We're really stuck this time. DD has a very unusual name so I want to have something fairly unusual to match but I don't want to be really quirky just for the sake of it.

sweetkitty · 12/02/2010 21:19

Heffa - just remembered your DDs name

I have had sore jaws from chopping on the gas and air tube and with DD1 had burst blood vessels on my head too

MoggMum · 12/02/2010 22:33

peaky I asked MW for letter and she obliged but will take my notes too just in case. Hopefully they won't even notice I'm pregnant if I wear a VERY baggy jumper! Where you flying to?

ForcesSweetheart · 13/02/2010 01:12

MDM I'm around, just not been posting coz I've lost track of the thread so much I couldn't hope to include personals - and I really hate posting when I haven't had a chance to catch up with people's news individually. I keep promising I'm gonna set aside an hour or two and get caught up but never seem to find the time - sorry folks, I feel really bad about losing track. Thanks for thinking of me! I'm OK, struggling with the SPD, insulin etc etc and feeling like a beached whale (1 stone gained so far), are you still a wee slip of a thing??
Just so glad there's light at the end of the tunnel now - 9 weeks and 6 days til C-Day!
Boo to your DH btw, I have a kid brother called Raffaele, I kid you not - check out my siblings on facebook! step-mum is half spanish/half italian .
I've started going to a mum n toddler group in the local army families centre and met a great bunch of girls, never had a chance to meet anyone locally when I was working all the time. One is due her baby 5 days after my CS which is nice. One of them is a midwife and she was horrified at OBEM on TV. Obviously the awful husband but also she was screaming at the telly when she heard that baby's heartbeat so slow and wanted to put a rocket up the midwife.

I promise I'll try and get caught up on everyone's news properly this weekend!! Lis xx

peakyispreggers · 13/02/2010 08:25

moggmum we are off to lanzarote on fri, cant wait! When are you off? I havent got a letter, just my notes, so think I will try either the baggy jumper or an indignant "pregnant? is that a joke? are you saying im fat?"

schipo · 13/02/2010 09:04

Morning all,

Busy week. Have been reading but no time to post. Thoughts have been with you all. Good to see that everyone is doing doing well on the whole.

Now that I've been woken up early by delivery let me quickly chip in on several conversations at once:

position: how can you tell where their baby is from day to day? Do they really hold one position most of the time? I get kicks/taps under right ribs quite often, but sometimes get prodded at opposite ends at teh same time, which I guess could be baby trying to stand/straighten up? Sometime it feels like he's doing star jumps and I then wonder if its just wind i'm feeling

hospital bag: i think i've got nearly everything i need for a bag but haven't packed it yet - at this rate going to need a large one. Very exciting to have a pack of nappies. I got a bit carried away with my supermarket delivery and got tena pants and pampers bed mats too so well ready for any leaks. I know its early, but rather safe than sorry.

Also beginning to get things to bring baby home to. I found a nice bedside cot frame on ebay - but now I'm waiting for seller to tell me where to send courier too! Either she's very scatty or she's running off with my £50... Also got obligatory lamb skin Making lists and shopping is about the only nesting I can do until the move.

Maternity leave: am I crazy to have booked mine to start just days before my due date? I chose then on the grounds that its much easier to bring it forward than back but I really don't know wat to expect. I've heard of people going stir crazy waiting for birth in last few weeks so thinking that a bit of distraction at work might actually be welcome at the end. Still very jealous of all you guys starting it soon . I couldn't really say I've been very present at work over the last few weeks even if I've been physically there

obem: dh was out when it was on but I've given him a blow by blow account of steve's behavior and warned him not to repeat any of it.
happenedagain - amazing to think of 4 generations of your family present at birth. I'm sure there's a lot to be said for an all female crew.

names: It's really very hard isn't it! Heffa Curious to know what your dd's is. Practically everything on list of popular names will be off limits to this baby. He'll be lucky if he isn't called Breezeblock.

vitamins: I'm still taking them including omega oils, although I did read that taking folic acid in third trimester has been linked with asthma

welcome to LivsHannah and alimouse. Congrats on your birthday alimouse - nice not to be the only 40 year old here.

Suey2 hope you are well. I've been rushing around all week talking to mortgage consultants and removal firms. Are you around next week - let me know when would be a good day and I'll try to sneak over for coffee

Angel hope you get warmth sorted out today. There doesn't seem to be an end in sight to cold weather.

Have good weekend all, we're starting to pack books...

AliMouse · 13/02/2010 09:47

Hello All,

Being 40 is good - got a Canon EOS 500. So hoping to restart my portrait photography work while I'm off for a year - will specialise in babies of course!

Names - been reading your experiences and have decided to keep our choice to ourselves. I did tell my sister (childless) on my birthday and she said 'Oh, that's like something a Dingle would be called'. Nuff said.

With DS2 we told everyone that if it was a girl she would be called Hamble and if it was a boy he would be called Chegwin. They were so relieved when he was finally born and got his real name we got no adverse reactions at all!

DS1 and DS2 both have names starting with J so this time we've told everyone we are considering the name Jesus, pronounced in a thick spanish accent...

Sunny in Whitstabubble today and I'm feeling happy!

littleowls · 13/02/2010 09:58

Morning!

BP yesterday was 'normal' (135/90), but will be back on Wed. I'll be there every week now. I'm due a growth scan in a few weeks. Does anyone who has had a scan late on know if it is easy to see what the baby is? I really don't want to spoil the surprise, but I know I'll look too!

Angel - hope you get warm soon, sending warm thoughts!

Cupcake - I have a few lists for various things. The one I've got at the moment is the hospital bag.

MDM - I'm not taking vitamins, not since the folic acid. I am eating loads of fruit and veg so I feel I probably don't need suppliments.

Forces - I find it really hard to keep up, don't feel bad. Can't believe you only have 9 weeks to go.

I'm off to DPs house for a few days - this is as far as my holidays go! I do get looked after and waited on so it's not a bad thing!

Peaky and Mogg - Have a good time on your hols.

Can't remember what else I was going to add, but I've probably taken up enough space.

littleowls · 13/02/2010 10:00

Alimouse - that's a good idea. Pick a really ridiculous name to tell people then the original name won't seem so bad! Gonna try that!

AnAngelWithin · 13/02/2010 11:08

morning all. Hope you are all well. I didn't sleep a wink last night after having 8 hours the night before. Typical! I feel rotten this morning. Managed to have a bath and wash my hair and put my bed sheets in to wash. Got my homestart lady coming in a bit (not that we see each other as that anymore, we are best friends) and waiting for my tescos shop to arrive then may tae the kids to the park later to un some energy off.

Housing pace have just rang, they are coming first thing monday morning to look at my broken fire!!! Woop woop!!! Fingers crossed they sort it! I don't fancy having to buy one myself!

Alimouse sounds fab!

Schipo I have got everything for my bag as well, again, not packed it though. I've bought travel size bottles of shower gel and shampoo etc so not got to lug too much if i have to go to hospital.

RE gas and air, well you would laugh...it conks me out!! I mean as in, it passes me out in between contractions!!! As I don't drink, it goes straight to my head! The midwives have never seen someone have such a reaction to just gas and air!!! I guess I am a lightweight haha.

Hollyoaks · 13/02/2010 13:25

Hi all

G&A - love it love it love it, once I started on that the tube did not leave my mouth till they had finished stitching me up. Really enjoyed biting down on the mouth piece too. Would highly recommend it to anyone, though made me dance like Stevie Wonder and lose the ability to speak.

Hospital bag - haven't even thought about it, though most of the newborn clothes are with my ds since she had her lo. Once I get those back and the car seat I can start thinking about it. Still got 15 weeks left though so plenty of time.

Angel - glad your heating will be sorted. There seems to be a lot of us on here who have had heating problems. Bring on the summer.

SK - I stopped taking my multivitamins when I started eating properly again, but I'm thinking I may need to start them up again. However, the abs are working wonders. My infected cyst is improving (though dd did jump on it last night forcing one of my pandora beads into it, cue lots of screaming from me and then dd), and my uti symptoms have all but disappeared.

Hope everyone is well.

Hobnobfanatic · 13/02/2010 13:26

Back from the 4d scan,,which was very sweet. THey confirmed that bump is a girl, whihc is lovely, lovely, lovely!

Schipo - for positions, you just can't tell. I've been getting lots of kicks in the middle right of the bump, and presumed the legs were there and the head on the left, but the scan showed that the baby is curled up on the right, head and legs! In fact, poor little mite kept kicking herself in the head and then kept sucking her toes!

Littleowls _ I go to DP's for a hol too! I always feel refreshed after a weekend there - I don't have to worry about laundry or chores or anything. Because I work from my home, I always feel duty bound to check emails etc and never switch off. Going to DP's is a mini break!

Angel - hope your heating gets sorted soon. Which reminds me - anyone heard from Memorylapse?

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 13/02/2010 19:03

Forces - don't worry about not catching up, it's really hard to keep track!

Schipo - my DD's called Andromeda, Meda for short. We only ever really call her Meda tbh, but wanted to give her the long bit in case she wants to play around with it when she's older. It's a family name.

I can never tell the position either, although sometimes kicks are at the sides and sometimes they're under the ribs and low down so I think this LO might be moving around a lot. Every time the MW's checked so far it's been in a different position.

Hobnob - glad your 4D scan went well

Haven't even thought about a hospital bag yet I think I had one packed at this point last time. I'll have to give it some thought at some point.

Angel - I had a similar reaction with the G&A. Loved it to bits but it did make me go really weird in between contractions. I don't drink either so maybe that's it?

brightredballoon · 13/02/2010 19:43

Hi everyone

Glad to hear you are ok Forces I struggle to keep up too but I put that down to the members so many on our "due in" month. At least we have plenty of people around for support though if someone posts with a worry etc, will be very handy postnatally.

Eeek, talking of which, I am 29wks today meaning only 10wks until my elective section . Had some pains in my old cs scar last night and panicked about not being ready so now DD's birthday and her party are out of the way I am going to really concentrate on what we need and like you SK need to dig out the bags from the loft and wash the clothes again.

Any Lost fans here? I am finding it as slow as ever, wish they wouldn't pad the episodes out so much

pigleychez · 13/02/2010 20:49

Forces- Glad to hear you ok.

Ali- Glad you enjoyed your birthday. No way proffesional but I like to dabble in photography. I took loadsa lovely pics of DD (especially as a newborn).

Angel- FIngers crossed they sort your heating out!

Hobnob- Glad you enjoyed the 4d scan

Re position- I think Bubba is still breech here. Still getting the low down kicks. Find it hard deciding whats a kick and whats a punch! Seem to be getting plenty of punches lately too. Def can feel its still breech today though as I have felt a little round fist sticking out at the top of my bump. Ive been playing with baby this evening and been chasing its little fist about my tummy

Had a busy day today decorating the nursery. DH occupied DD whilst I painted the wall, frames, sill etc. Feel completely painted out now! Baby has been complaining about it this evening though with plenty of kicking and thumping! Backache too.

Gave DH the shock of his life today.Sat down at the table for Lunch only for DD to spill her cup of water over the table and down my lap. Anyway the water was very cold and I jumped up saying "arrggghhh". DH came in from the kitchen to see me standing there with water running down my legs. His face was a picture untill he saw the water on the table too and the knocked over cup! He said that he did think it was my waters breaking for a second!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 14/02/2010 09:56

Forces - lovely to hear from you, glad you're OK and it sounds like you've found a lovely group of local ladies, it must make such a difference!

Thanks everyone for all the comments about the gas and air. We are going to a tour of the birth centre in a couple of weeks that includes a talk by one of the anaesthetists, so I will be able to bug him/her with all my questions!

Pigley - at your DD spilling water and DH thinking your waters had broken! at you and others who are sorting nurseries out. I can't wait to get sorted, but waiting first for next weekend when DH's cousin is coming and can help DH to clear out the furniture that's currently in that room and then have to wait until mid-march for all the nursery furniture to arrive!

Angel - glad it looks like your fire will get sorted, must be such a relief.

A busy day on the thread yesterday! Just checked in this morning after being out and about all day. Had a lovely visit to my DS & BIL and lunch out with the parents too.

Mum had brought a bagful of bits and pieces for the baby - managed to replicate all the exact same basics I had bought last week, so I'll have to take mine back and swap them for some cot sheets or a larger size or something! She's also been busy on the knitting and sewing front and presented us with a rather horrid moses basket blanket and cot quilt. Very sweet of her, and I feel very ungrateful for saying this, but I wish she had checked before making stuff, as the colours she has chosen are awful and won't go at all with what we're planning for the nursery, and the blanket is the world's thickest blanket (seriously, about an inch thick!) that would probably be lovely for a baby in Siberia in January, but not a summer baby in England!! She gave the same blanket and quilt to DS too, and DS feels exactly the same way as me.

If anyone has any thoughts for how we could tactically suggest that she consult us, at least on colour, before creating any further 'surprise' presents, that would be gratefully received! Perhaps a subtle word with Dad could do the trick, as I suspect he probably thinks she is getting a bit carried away.

Sorry not to reply personally to more of you, DH is getting very irritable with me typing away on here for some reason, (probably thinks it's not the most romantic way for me to spend valentine's day morning!)

OP posts:
memorylapse · 14/02/2010 11:27

trying to catch up with all the posts here..been in hospital since last saturday Im afraid but came home last night.

I had a bleed last saturday so went in to be checked over..they were happy that I wasnt going into labour as my cervix was shut, but kept me in for observation.
After 2 days my consultant decided to err on the side of caution and give me steroid shots to strengthen baby's lungs..just in case..but because Im diabetic..I needed to go on a sliding scale insulin drip as the steroids cause diabetics blood sugars to go sky high, so I didnt sleep for 2 nights as I had to check my blood sugars every 2 hours..
scan showed baby looking happy and chilled! She was in the oblique breech position, so looked as though she was relaxing on a sun lounger!..no cause for bleeding seen on scan so I came home yesterday.

However..there were some dramas while I was in..first..I ended up almost being an impromptu birth partner for a lady who had been induced and progressed so quickly she gave birth in her bed!
and then there was the lady who was in because her waters broke at 26 weeks, she was now 27 weeks and we were chatting next to her bed, she got up to go to the loo, and the baby was nearly born down the toilet!
they had to rush with her to delivery pushing the baby back up because her cord had prolapsed..and give her an emergency c section..baby is doing well in scbu though...there were no tvs on the ward but we didnt need them with all that drama going on!!
Im back in day assesment tomorrow and then another growth scan on weds when I will be 29 weeks..looking forward to being 30 weeks as it feels like there is light at the end of the tunnel from then on!!

Hi All!

Welcome Mumofeag!

Memorylapse - wow! sounds like you've had a very eventful week! So sorry you are having yet more problems, i'm very impressed with your coping skills! Glad to hear your back home and baby is chilled

Angel - hope you have heat soon. Our house is causing us havoc too, but thankfuly not the heating. Washing machine been broken for 2 weeks waiting for bits to be ordered! Spent all of yesterday morning in a laundrette Guttering has gone just outside my bedroom window so getting kept up at night when it rains and DP has found mould growing all over our attic - all of this and landlord out of the country! Never mind getting new sofa delivered on tues and can't wait - fingers crossed nothing goes wrong with that!!

Hollyoaks - glad to hear you are feeling better.

re names - thank you for all your suggestions - will have to get thinking cap on now

Pigley - at your frightening your other half!! Also i too have a friends wedding 3 weeks before due date. I'm from the highlands and the wedding is south of england!! Would be a good idea to be prepared with hospital bag just in case

LuckyC - i am with you re labour - being my first i am now completely freaking out that this baby has somehow got to come out of me! Also thinking about my vanity and DP watching me pushing away - i'm sure that will not be my first concern hen the time comes though

Hope ervyone getting spoiled on this fine valentines day

Hollyoaks · 14/02/2010 15:28

ML - glad your out of hospital and all is well.

BRB - dh and I are massive Lost fans, but as usual its slow and confusing and frustrating, why won't anyone answer a question with a straight answer . I guess thats why we have to keep watching it.

Not much more to add, but happy valentines to all

wibblela · 14/02/2010 15:32

Hi

Sorry I've not posted for a while - realised I was getting addicted to MN!

I've been trying to catch up with everyone's news but am failing badly! I think I am suffering with baby brain - things are not staying in there!!! Suffice it to say, I hope everyone is well, and I apologise for not mentioning people specifically.

Things have been chugging along fine for me. I had GTT last week which came back as me bring completely normal - something I have never been in anything! My blood sugars at 0 mins were 4.4 and after 120 mins were 3.6 - drink they gave me was really nice but because I was fasting the glucose made me feel really awful and I ended up having to sleep. Diabetic nurse looked at my skin prick tests and said that I didn't really need to do it anymore, however Obstectrician wanted me to carry on doing it occasionally so I could keep an eye on what I was eating! I don't think anyone understands PCOS at all!!!

LO is kicking lots now which I really enjoy - I really enjoy feeling the movement. My Multiple Sclerosis Consultant has put me back on Amitriptyline as pain relief, but only a small dose. Has anyone else had to take this during any previous pregnancies?

I watched the program on C4 this week - bit of a reality check happened for me - I knew that LO will have to come out when finished cooking, but now I really know!!! I am not panicking anymore

cupcakefairy · 14/02/2010 15:54

Happy Valentines Day all I got some chocolate from the baby my dh has been so lovely today.

Ali you live in Whitstable? My dh comes from Dver and we were quite excited to see Whitstable on Saturday Kitchen yesterday..ha, how sad are we!! Fab about the new camera. We've finally invested in a DSLR (Canon 1000D) and so excited about using it when baby comes

peaky we're moving before baby too..are we mad?! Hopefully hopefully signing for a flat Wednesday...fingers and all other appendages crossed.

schipo I can't tell baby's position either; just so bemused as to how mw can prod bump and know what position it's in. Had huge ripply movements this morning though so hoping that was baby turning around to the right way!

pigley my dh is exactly the same re names! We've pretty much settled on a girls name but totally clueless for boys...he dismisses everything I suggest but doesn't come up with any, grr!

Right, am gonna try to upload a bump pic..
