...now the "Crazy Baby Ladies"!

Had the idea to start this thread because, after getting my BFP on Monday, it suddenly dawned on me that I was going to lose contact with a lot of lovely people. I feel sad every time anyone leaves (though obviously happy for you that you've got your BFP) and thought this might be a nice idea, so that we can continue to keep in touch. After all, we've been through a lot together, haven't we?!

Also, I felt a bit out of my depth on the other threads, where it seemed like most of the members had already had children. There didn't seem to be a "first-timers" thread on here. (Unless I missed it!)

So here goes!

Hello its me, formerly TishTosh21 I fancied a new name

I think the maternity jeans I was given are over the bump ones so they are way too big atm, I think a coupld were under the bump ones so ill have a look if they are adjustable.

I have lost all sense of smell my nose is that stuffed up.

TishTosh Glad you have your bump now.

Sparkly I hope your tiredness has calmed down and that your feeling a bit more energised.

Hobnob I'm so glad for you that you got caught in your first month. I'm hoping that the same thing happens to me and DH. Well at the very least, we're having fun trying.

Whiteroses Thank you, it's nice to see how you guys are getting on.

Curly and Spirael - the kicks are so lovely! I didn't start feeling them until about 18 weeks, and even then they were really gentle. Now (23 weeks) they are much stronger. I have an anterior placenta though, so apparently that can lessen how much you can feel the movements, and make it happen much later. What are you feeling? At first I was unsure whether I just had wind but it became more and more obvious. Almost like a little bubble popping inside.

Re. maternity jeans - I have under the bump ones, which fit really well and hopefully should be okay for a good while yet. None of my normal clothes fit now either. I have bought a stretchy work skirt (blooming marvellous) which I am wearing all the time, plus have a couple of wrap dresses that are still okay, and a stretchy jersey dress that should be fine for a good while too. I am just rotating the same things over and over!! Trying not to buy too much though, only another 17 weeks of pg to go, and I would rather spend money on baby stuff

CurlyCasper · 26/01/2010 09:11

pep I do think i have those little bubble bursting sensations, but perhaps I've read too much and am imagining it!. I have over bump jeans I have been wearing since ney year. The belt loops are under bump, so if I wear a belt they stay up ok, and the belly panel is just right to sit under clothes - not baggy or anything. I have decided over bump trousers with belt loops are the way forward. And leggings. I am living in legging and funky big tops/dresses.

Having all sorts of pelvic pain I won't bore you with - just hoping it's nothing to worry about/that will force me into early maternity leave. we'll see...

DesperateHousewife21 · 26/01/2010 09:28

This is my first baby and my normal jeans dont fit me at all, Im just over 15 weeks but I keep reading that people dont need maternity clothes til around 20 weeks, esp as its their first. Is it normal for me to have ballooned out like this then??

ceebs05 · 26/01/2010 10:32

Hi - just updated the list as realised I was still on future graduates. Hope I haven't accidentally changed anything I shouldn't have! Made my first appointment with midwife - on 8th Feb (soonest I could get due to work and clinic times but I will be one day off 7 weeks by then so think that's ok). Feels like ages away though!

I'm just over 10 weeks now and I can't wear my normal jeans (they were tight to begin with to be fair!)

I bought a bump band at the weekend and I wear that over my jeans (which are completely undone). It keeps them up all day and nobody can see that the button and zip are undone! Genius invention

DesperateHousewife21 · 26/01/2010 21:11

ooo that is a v good idea vix I might just have to copy that idea of yours

Ozziegirly · 27/01/2010 03:09

Gosh I am SO nervous!

I have my first appointment with the obstretician at the hospital in an hour and a half and I have butterflies. I reckon the last time I was this nervous was before I took my driving test - 15 years ago!

I am really hoping all is ok. It should be, right? 10+1, no bleeding, no pains at all, 3 pregnancy tests. They won't say I have imagined it?????

Will let you know how it goes tomorrow - don't worry if I don't come back on later as we don't have internet at home yet.

Aaaaaiiiieeeeeeeee, feel like I need to go and run around to let off some of this pent up nervous energy!

pepperonipizza · 27/01/2010 06:55

20 weeks?! I have needed maternity clothes since 12 weeks - not that I had a big bump, just that none of my normal clothes would do up anymore! Think people who are saying 2 weeks either have very stretchy normal clothes, or are very tiny!

Good luck Ozzie, hope it has all gone well (sure it has!!).

Curly, I'm sure you're not imagining it (though I know just what you mean, I was the same!!). How lovely!!

DesperateHousewife21 · 27/01/2010 10:09

Just got back from my 16 week app with the mw, there was a student midwife there too who listened to the heartbeat, I didnt think she would find it but she did quite quickly and it was so lovely to hear

Good luck ozzie Im sure everything will be fine, do let us know how you get on

MadameG · 27/01/2010 10:26

Hi ladies!

I really, really thought I'd posted on here but I haven't!!!

I am going for a second attempt at a dating scan next Wed (went last Wed and they sent be too early by mistake). Should be about 7 weeks at this point but waiting to find out for sure.

TishTosh- I had/have the tummy thing too. My tummy was like a balloon for the last week but today thankfully it's gone a bit smaller. I think it's a combo of the uterus expanding and major gas! I've got a stuffy nose too.

I'm still kind of not believing I'm pregnant yet- until I see the scan or a large bump I think I'm going to be a disbeliever! However, ten pregnancy tests later, I really should relax...

I was looking for another job before I found out I was pregnant- one of the companies keeps trying to call me and I don't know what to tell them! I can't start a job and just leave it 4 months later- they'd be really pissed off with me. So I guess I'll call them back today and just tell them the truth...

P.S I am so, so worried. Very anxious. Really hoping bean is okay in there and that everything is okay.

MadameG · 27/01/2010 10:28

P.P.S I had some tummy twinges the other day. Quite mild though. Gone now. My pregnancy book says thats normal, especially with all the contispation and gas.

Ozziegirly · 27/01/2010 22:29

Hello!

Well I had my dating scan and all was fine - saw tiny baby, laying on its back, waving hands above its head in a really cute way. Saw the heartbeat too.

Dates match perfectly and they confirmed the due date as 24 August.

That was it really. I have the nuchal scan and blood test in a couple of weeks which I am trying just not to think about at this stage!

Lovely to see the baby though, and I have now finally told both sets of parents and my best friends, all of whom were thrilled!

MadameG, I felt like I blew up around 6-8 weeks but now feel like I am a bit more back to normal with less of a tummy - weird. I also had some twinges, and think they are ligaments stretching.

I figure what you have to look out for is bleeding and proper pain that doesn't go away.
DesperateHousewife, that's fab that you heard the heartbeat!

DesperateHousewife21 · 28/01/2010 10:51

Glad the scan went well for you ozzie its so nice to see eveything is how it should be.

WhiteRoses · 28/01/2010 13:07

Hi... I seem to have been missing for a while. Reason being, I've been back at work this week and have been so knackered that I've been coming in and crashing every night, barely staying conscious long enough to eat! It's ridiculous. I've also been in firm denial of morning sickness since I first started feeling queasy on Saturday (6+1, Spireal!). Hoewever, after spending this morning draped over the toilet, throwing up, I think I need to come out of my denial... Not fair! Gran and Mum had fifteen pregnancies between them and not even a hint of sickness for either of them - why couldn't I have inherited those genes?! On the plus-side, I did read something about morning sickness = lower risk of miscarriage... So here's hoping. Otherwise, so far, so good. Slight twingey cramps - nothing too bad, no bleeding. Still very paranoid, expecting blood every time I go to the toilet, but every day that passes makes things that little bit safer, right?

Anyway, me, me, me!

November - I've not had cravings either - . But have had aversions to pretty much all food! Not fair, is it?! Maybe they'll come!

Pixie - I've been wandering around with my belly hanging out at night too! My DH just laughs! Actually, I measured my waist the other day {blush] and it seems that, at night, I'm 3.5" bigger than I am in the morning! How's that even possible?!

Sparkly - yay! Congratulations! Do you know, though, that when the test says 2-3 weeks, it doesn't mean you're 2-3 weeks pregnant? It means 2-3 weeks since conception. HERE is a link to a table that tells you how to actually read your results. It confused me too - seems a daft way to do it!

Trying - nice to see you here. A little girl - how lovely! Have you got a name picked out yet? (Understand you keeping it quiet but just wondering if you have.) Gosh - the bikini line/swimming dilemma hadn't actually occurred to me! Just need to keep telling ourselves it'll all be worth it in the end!

Curly - what did the midwives give you to read? I got a book called "Ready Steady Beby" and loads of leaflets, and a DVD about breastfeeding.

ceebs - congratulations! GREAT to see you here! Completely know what you mean about the shock! I think for us, it was just that we were so used to getting BFNs that the BFP didn't seem real! Thought the test (okay, tests!) must have been faulty! Only believed it when the doctor confirmed it!

Hobnob - normally when I hear of people getting a BFP in their first month, I'm a bit , but you SO deserved it, after all the waiting you did!

I'm finding that time's dragging too. I worked out I should be due my first scan at the beginning of March - MARCH?!!! It's still only January! Lol! Still, it'll all be worth it! (That's going to become my catchphrase! )

Pepperoni - I just said a girl was lovely to Trying but now I'm thinking how nice a boy is! I suppose I won't really care - the fact that it's a baby is enough! Congratulations!

Oooh! How exciting about the kicking! When did you first feel movement? (Just caught with your most recent post, which says 18wks! ) I've been reading up and apparently round about now, my baby will start to move - jerking about a bit. Will obviously be ages before I feel that, mind you! I can't wait!

Spireal - it's funny - we start off obsessing about EWCM and achey boobs, then it's obsessing over cramps/potential bleeding. Then whether the baby's moving or not... What, after that?! Do you think our obsessing is just part and parcel of being a parent and will continue forever more?! Worrying thought! I used to be normal! Lol!

Aww! Your mum sounds so lovely! Sounds like something my mum would do! I keep looking at my mum and dad and wondering how DH and I will ever measure up... Anyway! Enough of that - too big and scary a responsibilty to think about! Keep passing by rails of baby clothes and wanting to buy them! They're SOOO cute! (Now, wasn't that a happier thought?! )

TishTosh - like the new name! Sorry to hear about the stuffy nose. Poor Spireal too - not fair that DH's able to drug himself up like that and you're not! Great that you've got a bump now too! I can't wait till I stop looking fat and start looking pregnant!

Ugh! I've just been sick again! After sipping water! Ridiculous! Due in work in a couple of hours so just had to phone in sick (I've NEVER called in sick to work before) and seemingly I'm the third person to have been vomiting in the last 24hrs. So I may just enter back into my denial phase over the morning sickness!

Curly - sorry to hear about the pelvic pain. Hope you're feeling better now?

Desperate - when I got my BFP, I'd just bought two new pairs of jeans. Hadn't removed the tags, so returned them for a size bigger. They were far too big but are now perfect in the morning, too tight in the evening... Can't imagine I'll last another 14wks in them! (Oh, and the bum and thighs are still baggy so it's not just that I'm getting fat - they're only tight in the waist!)

ceebs - 8th of Feb does seems ages away but it'll be here before you know it. And at least you won't get any nasty comments like I did about not really having the right to be there before 6wks!

Vix - just Googled "Bump Band" - certainly seems a genius invention, right enough!

Desperate - how lovely that you heard the heartbeat! See, I'm a bit worried that DH will miss all these appointments, cause he works Monday-Friday, whereas I do shifts. I'm also not sure how it works for scan dates... Does he have to pull a sicky or will he be entitled to time off?

Madame - I'm glad you're getting another early scan and don't have to wait till 12wks. I read your post on another thread - you were treated dreafully before. Anyway, I'm sure all will be well. Less than a week to go now. x

Tricky one about the job too... Suppose you will just have to be honest though...

Ozzie - wonderful news that the scan went so well and everyone was so happy for you!

OP posts:
WhiteRoses · 28/01/2010 13:08

Loooooong post but in my defence, I had a lot of catching up to do!

OP posts:
DesperateHousewife21 · 28/01/2010 13:23

whiteroses glad to see you back on the thread! Shame about the sickness I hope it doesnt last too long for you.

My DP came to the dating scan, he told work about it and they gave him the morning off but I dont think he got paid for it which is a shame. He doesnt come to my mw appointments though which is why he missed out on hearing the heartbeat. Then again when I came out the room there were 2 ladies waiting and neither of them had partners/husbands with them so Im guessing its the norm.

Spirael · 28/01/2010 14:55

Hi WhiteRoses! Glad to see you back, but sorry to hear that morning sickness caught up with you. The tiredness too... Awful isn't it? I was waking up, going to work, then coming back home and going straight to bed!! DH nudged me awake mid-evening to feed me, but I was literally spending all non-working time asleep and STILL felt tired when I was awake.

If it's any consolation, if you are following the same pattern as me (6+1 is about as close as you could get! ) then it should all go away by around week 13 and you'll feel absolutely peachy. Even to the point where you're constantly wondering if you're really pregnant after all, or whether the last three months of nausea/exhaustion, the pin-up girl breasts, the waist expansion and all the wiggly peanut scans are some kind of major misunderstanding.

Unfortunately... If you are following the same path as I did, then it'll get worse before it gets better. I found the nausea and the tiredness reached a peak at around week 9-10.

However, I think I only ever actually threw up a few times right at the beginning, which I think was when I was learning how to deal with it. After that I got used to always carrying food and eating whatever I could tolerate at the time (usually complete rubbish), whenever I felt the nausea coming on... Which was about every hour, if not more regularly than that!

Eating feels like the last thing you want to do sometimes, but forcing yourself to eat even a little bit really helps. (Not least because if you do throw up then it's not just acid...) Failing that, try milk or fizzy drinks as I found they gave me a false feeling of being full and helped with the nausea.

However, if you can't keep anything down at all, even water, then it's time to go and see the MW/Doctor for help!

Good luck! As you say, it'll all be worth it in the end. February's a short month, so it's not long until March, when the little wiggly prawn baby on the scan waving at you will make it all seem like it's not so bad after all.

Not much to report here... Just clock watching until my MW appointment next Friday when I'll hopefully be able to hear the heartbeat again. My next scan isn't until the beginning of March, but I'm already impatient for it. Not least because I want to know whether it's a boy or a girl!! Either way is fine, I just wanna know so I can stop calling the poor LO 'it'!

Looking forward to going to The Baby Show in London next month though. Hoping to get a lot of freebies information and it should be a fun day out too, with DH and my parents.

Another long post from me too. If you made it through all of that... Have a cookie!

pixiestix · 28/01/2010 19:22
  • thanks Spirael! Its so lovely to hear all your news, and yours too WhiteRoses. You can both mock me for saying this, but I actually can't wait to get morning sickness, and feel like the prawn is bedding down properly!! It all feels much too perilous at the moment. (I know I will regret saying that!!![ grin])

Ok, now for a me-me-me rant. I've been having some really bad pain in my abdomen, which has been checked out in the EPU and apparently isnt anything to worry about. Big relief! But because I needed to take two afternoons of work to go to the unit this week I had to tell my boss I was pg. Her reaction was:
Oh, was it planned?
Oh, I thought you would have tried to lose some weight before TTC.
Don't worry about the pain - most first pregnancys end in miscarriage you know - its your body's way of having a practise for when you get pregnant properly.
And (worst of all for me, as DH already has two sons who live abroad) Oh, I guess the baby will make a good replacement for DH's children.

Its not just me is it - she is a total fucking bitch! I've felt so depressed all afternoon, as if I am a big fat emotionally-stunted idiot who is about to miscarry. What is wrong with her that she would speak to me like that???? And she was all smiley as if she was being my best buddy!! Arrrgggghgghghghghghhh!!!

Ok, rant over - more lovely baby news from people needed now to cheer me up!

WhiteRoses · 28/01/2010 20:22

Hi Desperate - I'm not so bothered about the midwife appointments really, though it'd be nice to have him there. It's the scans that I worry about. In particular the 12wk one. Cause we weren't wanting to tell people until after the first scan... Anyway, I suppose we'll see nearer the time. But either way, he obviously can't miss it, so if he needs to pull a sicky, he needs to pull a sicky. He's only ever been off work once in his life, so they'll have to understand.

Spireal - you're just great for advice! Actually, I have been doing my best to make sure my stomach is never empty, because I think when it is, that's when I've been feeling a bit queasy. Last night though, I fell asleep on the sofa before dinner and DH reckoned he couldn't wake me, so he left me to wake up myself at half past ten. By then, I was pretty queasy and just went straight to bed without dinner. Then this morning I was obviously worse... But, I've now been told that four of my colleagues (three that I spent the whole of yesterday with) are off with vomiting bugs. So I don't know if this is a case of my stomach being allowed to totally empty, and morning sickness kicking in, or it it's just the same bug as the others have... Suppose time will tell! Fingers crossed for the latter though!

The tiredness, I've had since the beginning, so that's nothing new and my thyroid's also very underactive, which doesn't help. But I'm on new tablets now, so I'm hoping that they kick in soon, and then it'll only be the pregnancy tiredness to contend with!

What date in March is your next scan? I think my first scan should be at some point in the week of the 8th-15th. My gran's birthday, if she were still alive, would have been the 16th, so I'm sort of in two minds about properly announcing the pregnancy then... We'll see nearer the time, I suppose.

So if you HAD to choose, would you secretly hope for a boy or a girl? What about DH? Or would you rather not say?!

Ugh - a - are you serious?! (

OP posts:
WhiteRoses · 28/01/2010 20:33

Pixie - sorry, your post only appeared when I refreshed my screen there. I do think you're absolutely off your head for wanting morning sickness - completely and utterly bonkers! But () I felt the same this time last week, for the very same reason! Mind you, I'm REALLY hoping this is just that bug now!

Ugh - sorry to hear about your pain... But good that they told you it wasn't anything to worry about... Is it better now?

What a BITCH of a boss! Totally insensitive and horrible! Reminds me of what the midwife said to me about miscarriage! And what a cheek to say that about your weight! (Again, reminding me of bitchy midwife!) The thing about your baby just being a "replacement" is absolutely unbelievable as well! How awful!

Baby news... How about if I give you my from Spireal? Are you five weeks pregnant right now? If so, take a look at this.

OP posts:

Pixie - I am outraged on your behalf at what your boss has said to you, of all the insensitive, thoughtless and downright mean things to say

Whiteroses - sorry the MS got you, I'll second spirael and say eating very regularly seems to be the best way to beat it, some say try 6 small meals a day instead of 3.

I have my midwife appt next Wed and hoping to get a scan date not long after that - I just can't wait to tell people!

Congrats to the new grads and those who've just had scans
