...now the "Crazy Baby Ladies"!

Had the idea to start this thread because, after getting my BFP on Monday, it suddenly dawned on me that I was going to lose contact with a lot of lovely people. I feel sad every time anyone leaves (though obviously happy for you that you've got your BFP) and thought this might be a nice idea, so that we can continue to keep in touch. After all, we've been through a lot together, haven't we?!

Also, I felt a bit out of my depth on the other threads, where it seemed like most of the members had already had children. There didn't seem to be a "first-timers" thread on here. (Unless I missed it!)

So here goes!

Oh wow, I am seeing a whole new side to Ozzie Girly
She is pure evil!

Trying4Baby1 · 29/04/2010 20:04

Hiya all, just been reading through everyone's posts and thought I'd better let you all know that there's still no baby as yet! Had a hospital appointment today after they found protein in my urine last Sunday, and everything was fine this time . So glad as even though they tell you not to worry you still do! Baby's moved down further now so hopefully a step closer to coming out although been told that she's still classed as back to back so long labour if I can't get her to twist round. Better go and get on with the exercises they gave me. Hope everyone's well, I'll try and keep you updated if she decides to arrive.

luckyseven · 29/04/2010 22:37

pidgin fudgecat and bunny great you all got your scans and reached a new milestone

whiterosesa boy ? brilliant, boys love their mums. i love your reasoning about finding out and made me look at it entirely differently when you said meeting your lo is happiness enough and finding out the gender is secondary. The hospital i have opted for don?t tell you as a rule so would have to go private to find out, we haven?t discussed finding out but i imagine dh would want the surprise. The other hospital in my area tell you but they also have you discharged within 8 hrs of birth unless you have had an epidural or a c section. Yikes We are telling mil tomorrow night, i am telling my mum and sister over afternoon tea at a posh hotel in town celebrating my sister and my birthdays (we are 2 days apart). They will scream the place down.

chancewbaft i hope your mil has a healthy recovery and look after yourself as all the toing and froing can take it out of you.

Novemberali bunny hermya321 trying4baby1 thanks for your suggestions for faking it on my 30th! I have a plan but it is really overboard but i could pull it off. I tracked alcohol removed Sutter Home White Zinfandel (Rose) and Chardonnay in Asda. The restaurant that we are going to serves both, i was going to call by tomorrow and buy a bottle of wine from their wine list, decant it and replace it with the fake wine and ask them to put it on ice when we arrive and say that my work sent it for me for my birthday ? then try not to share with anyone or sit beside my sister and best friend who hate wine! Dh thinks I have lost it but was much more interested in the Liverpool match than my tales of deception. What do you reckon ? manageable? I do love a challenge ? a whole glass of champers went down the drain at my sisters tonight when no one was looking! What a waste

Hope everyone (uk based) enjoys the (long) weekend. I?m off to visitor clean and pretend I live like this all the time!

Hermya321 · 29/04/2010 22:53

Not much to say from me today, LO has been moving around a lot. I think it might be having a rave in there.

Oh my gosh, I love Ozzie she cracks me up, to quote 'Man up, your gran is not looking down on you whilst you make stew, Your gran is looking down and going "stop crying you pussy' and on Brian MaFaddens engagement to Delta Goodram, 'She must have lost a serious bet.' I feel like Britains loss is Australias gain in this instance. She would have me in stitches in any prolonged conversation I reckon.

Khas Hello!!! Nice to see you here!

White When I told them I was pregnant they sent me a whole pack of information with all my rights and when I should tell them about maternity leave. I think they need to know for stuff like courses and things like that. I met the woman who organizes that sort of thing. She had lists EVERYWHERE, seriously if I had her job people would riot in the streets and a whole lot of office plants would die.

Pixie I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling, when are you thinking of finishing for your maternity leave?

Luckyseven Good luck with telling your family, which area are you in (being a bit nosy, you don't have to say).

Ozziegirly · 30/04/2010 00:00

Yes, I save my soppiness for this thread.

bunnygirl80 · 30/04/2010 00:48

Ozzie You share my sentiments on the whole Masterchef thing. I moved to Oz thinking it was a country where the men were men and enjoyed things like sport and drinking beer! Then I turned on the TV and discovered that no, I have moved to a country where everyone cries ALL THE F*ING TIME!!!! Maybe they don't have to bother putting salt in the food as their tears give it all the seasoning it needs

roses How lovely that you want to name your LO after your gran. We only have a long list of girl's names that we like so we will be stuck if we're having a boy

lucky that sounds like a very cunning plan indeed! Far too devious for my little brain to have come up with

Hermya How early did you start to feel movement? My ob said it's unlikely I'd feel anything before 16 weeks but I've been feeling some weird sensations for the last 3-4 days. It's only if I am sitting really still, but it feels like tiny flutterings/bubbles popping. I'm sure it's not wind but am beginning to wonder if I'm just imagining it

pixie I have got a teeny tiny card to carry around with me - it's about A5 size and folded in half! If anything I'm worried I'm going to loose it. It only has very basic info on it, ie due date, BP, summary of blood results and one line for any special birthing instructions My ob keeps a very large file with all of my main notes in and I assume I'll have a separate birth plan rather than just the one sentence that will fit on the card.

trying hope your baby turns so you get a quick easy labour

Now I have proof I have a baby on board I'm off to buy some trousers I can actually do up! I'm actually quite embarassingly overexcited at the prospect of buying some comfy trousers, possibly with an elasticated waistband! I think it's finally time to wave goodbye to my skinny jeans

Hermya321 · 30/04/2010 10:00

Bunny I know this sounds quite impossible but I've been feeling movement for the past month (since about ten/eleven weeks). I asked on the October thread about it and they said it was most likely baby movement. The thing is when I first started feeling it, I was lying on my front in bed so I think the pressure allowed me to feel it that early. I'm also quite slender and have good tummy muscles (years of ballet/dance/pilaties). You're not imagining it, I'm of the opinion that no pregnancy is the same and we all get different things at different times. It's not the most vivid of leaps to think that some people will feel things earlier than others. Mine began feeling like fizzy bubbles popping and has now moved on to feeling like I had a squirmy thing inside of me. Is it low down in your pelvis, near your hips or just below your tummy button. If so I'd say your baby is on the move!!

Hermya321 · 30/04/2010 12:04

I've just been thinking after reading a thread about what things people thought they would do with their children or what their children would do before they arrived and I wondered what we on here want to do when our LO's arrive on the scene.

Me personally, I really hope that BF works for me, I hope that my kid will sleep for more than twenty minutes at a time, I hope that it's a laid back baby. I also hope that I'll get to grips with reusables. I hope that I'll be able to shift the baby weight and that I'll be able to leave my house with my clothes on the right way and at least have managed to use a bit of concealer to hide the bags under my eyes.

I also really want to keep LO and chocolate as far apart as possible for as long as I can and I really want to say that when LO goes to see Nanas that they won't use chocolate cake as a main meal.

I hope this isn't too delusional of me.

Hermya321 · 30/04/2010 13:23

We've had another BFP on the frolickers thread, Homebound got hers this morning! How exciting!!!

(Sticks kettle on and digs out biscuits).

homebound · 30/04/2010 13:51

Hermya, thank you so much for that! I have tears in my eyes writing on here cause im still in disbelief!! I keep looking at the CBD result and am completely in shock. The biscuits are great btw.

Its so nice to see so many familiar names from the last thread this was a great idea!

Cant get into GP until Thursday, but id rather see my regular one than see the other one with such a great thing.

So I guess its a BFP 30 April 2010 on CD 30 making a due date of 8 January 2011 approx! WHOLLY CRAP!!

DesperateHousewife21 · 30/04/2010 14:59

Congrats homebound that is amazing news!! Really pleased for you
OMG a due date in 2011, thats the first Ive seen yet!

hermya Im also with you in that I really hope me and baby can get to grips with BF I really want to be able to do it. Also when he is a bit older I want to try and be as patient as I can when he whinges and moans and try not to snap at him!

Hermya321 · 30/04/2010 15:54

Hands Homebound a cuppa and biccy and pushes out beanbag.

Congratulation once again me dear!! I hope your visit to the Doctors goes well!!

WhiteRoses · 30/04/2010 18:29

Hi everyone,

Yeh, Pixie, I would LOVE to have my gran's name but we'll see. Have you thought of names yet? And also, how's your sickness? I keep meaning to ask. Is it gone or just more tolerable?

November - it is lovely feeling movement! I keep being told I'll soon curse it but we'll see!

I definitely hadn't heard the story of Little H! I like it though! Some of you have some great nicknames for your LOs! We just call ours "the baby" - very boring!

Desperate - not wanting to cause offence to those having girls! But I'm really drawn to the boy things too! I think the girl clothes are generally really pretty and cute, but I love the whole "little man" look of the boy stuff.

Aww, how lovely feeling the head like that! I was speaking to someone in work today who was saying it used to creep her out, seeing her baby's foot sticking out when she was in the bath. I don't get that at all! I can't wait!

Trying - nice to hear from you and glad the protein issue's resolved, and LO's moving down. Good luck with the exercises and fingers crossed!

Lucky - eight hours?! Wow!

Your deception idea is certainly elaborate! Lol! Good luck - you'll need to let us know if it works!

Hermya - I was given a copy of the maternity policy, but my boss has just said to leave it till nearer the time - they don't need to know just yet. So that's nice, seeing as I don't know how to decide... At what point are you planning on taking it?

And the rest of you?

Bunny - in fairness, I think girls' names are much nicer - we had no issues with girls' names either! Are you going to find out what you're having?

Hehe! The "baby on board" thing... Do you know London Underground give out free badges saying just that?! So that people will know you're pregnant and will avoiding bumping into/pushing you?! Mad, eh?!

I wonder how long it'll be before any of us manage to fit into skinny jeans again...

Hermya - I like that question! I think I'd pretty much go with all of what you've said, but the other one is I really hope my baby has good relationships. With me, DH, his grandparents, aunts and uncles... Just that he always has plenty of people that he knows love him and that he can rely on, you know?

Homebound - yay! Congratulations! Have you told DH? Well, you will have now, I'm sure! How did you do it and how did he react?! Aww, I love it when we get BFPs! Especially when it's someone I knew since before I got mine, cause I felt dead guilty leaving you all behind! So, so happy for you though! (Oh, and I'd do the same about your GP, by the way!) Congratulations!

Desperate - don't forget Capricorn! She's (just about!) due in 2011 as well!

Updated list... (I've also stuck in Fulham's EDD as well as the actual day Lily was born, because I think it should be interesting to see how many of us go under or over, and by how much - and I'm a geek! )

By the way, has anyone heard from Yorkshire lately..? I haven't seen her around in a while. Hope she's okay.

whiteroses LOL, its great to see you too, i remember being very happy for you when you graduated!! YAAAAY 'throws graduation cap with whiteroses' Oh and if you are three days late delivering....baby will be born on MY birthday!!

I didnt do anything special with hubby as we were both off work for a nice extra long weekend today and he knew i was taking the test and i came down the stairs holding it with a big smile and he said 'what did it say' (like he had to ask with the smile) and i just handed it to him, then we had a big cuddle and kiss and then i noticed the blood had drained from his face..lol..i asked him if he was ok and he definitely was as he had a big smile on his face and hugged me again!!! It must be really empowering for a guy to know he has impregnated his wife/partner! you know like a caveman'I AM MAN..ME IMPREGNATE WIFE..GRR' lol

I am still sceptical, but none the less I am on here chatting away!!!

capricorn Here is hoping you have your baby on your due date cause that means baby will have fireworks and a great party every single year!!! I know cause its DHs birthday!!

xx

mumnerves · 30/04/2010 21:03

homebound congratulations on your BFP!!! The first graduate with a EDD in 2011

Whiteroses congrats on finding out you're having a boy! It must be amazing to see him

Bunnygirl pidgin Glad the scans went ok, you must both be so excited!

luckyseven Hope you have a lovely birthday. I've got a wedding to go to tomorrow and still am trying to figure out my excuse

fudge glad the scan went ok, hope you're feeling better

bunnygirl how have you lasted this long without buying anything new? I've gone up one dress size already and one bra size, and I'm only 8 + 2! I know it's not twins as they don't run in my family but my trousers are just so tight and I out grew my skinny jeans after week 5
I'm feeling a bit down as I can't fit into anything and don't want to buy anything maternity just in case I jinx it. Everything is just so tight

Sorry to anyone I didn't mention but hi and hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Hermya321 · 30/04/2010 21:15

Mumsnerves You could try this or something like this.

Ozziegirly · 01/05/2010 00:20

homebound that's wonderful news! Congratulations, I'm thrilled for you and your DH.

Hermya I think it's lovely to hear what people are aiming/hoping for. Personally I really hope breastfeeding works. I also hope that my baby at least sleeps a bit and I also hope that my DH and I maintain the strong relationship that we have at the moment, in light of the exhaustion and general change.

There's no reason we won't! We've been very happily married for 6 years, together for 11, and are really a very close, loving couple, but I read about marriages breaking down in the stress of parenthood and want to make sure I do my best to ensure it won't happen to us.

I also hope that I am able to maintain an identity outside of "mother" and don't become one of those women who have nothing to talk about other than babies and childcare.

I am actually rather uncomfortable today - my belly button really hurts and I have a general feeling of tenderness around that area. But I'm off to pilates this morning so I hope a bit of breathing and stretching will help. It feels kind of tight, so I imagine it's a growth spurt of some kind.

bunnygirl80 · 01/05/2010 00:21

Homebound Welcome to the grads!! Hope you have a very happy and stress free pregnancy My DH strutted around feeling all manly for days after my BFP!

Hermya Maybe it is LO I can feel then. There are plenty of ladies on my November thread who are onto baby #3 or 4 who are definitely feeling movement from about 10-11 weeks. And like you I'm lucky to be pretty slender in the tummy department thanks to my gym obsession. I like to think it is LO as I first felt it when I was worrying about my scan and I was praying that everything would be ok and asked for a sign to reassure me - or maybe god just send me some well timed wind

roses I did know about those badges for the underground. People in London seem to be sooo rude about gicing up their seats for anybody though. It's very different over here-as soon as a pg lady boards a bus she'll get offered seats by 4 or 5 people. DH always worries he'll inadvertantly offer his seat to a fat person one day and they'll get all offended

mumnerves none of my clothes were fitting - I've been using a hairbobble to keep my trousers together for weeks - I just didn't want to buy anything new as if I had got bad news at the scan I don't think I would have coped having to look at a wardrobe full of maternity clothes.

I had a successful shopping trip yesterday - I bought some leggings, some lovely skinny maternity jeans, a belly band to extend my normal trousers, and some long tops. Everything is so soft and stretchy and comfy around my tummy

DH managed to get himself in trouble though!! I was parading around in my new clothes when he got home from work, and my tummy was sticking out a bit. I said to him "oh look DH do you think I'm getting a little baby bump" His response - "no bunny, that's probably just bloating and a bit of fat!" I know he's probably right, but he could at least have pretended he thought it was a bump!!

chancewouldbeafinething · 01/05/2010 10:12

OK so trying to catch up...

Ozzie I totally think there is something weird going on there too. They stayed in my hotel a few years back and they were like mates not lovers...tbh i dont like either of them. and i hate how she thinks she is the syd swans number one fan! ok moan over....11K hike what is wrong with you?

trying how are the exercises going - good luck, anything for a shorter labour!

Lucky good luck with the deception & the visitors! It sounds like a good plan, if you can manage it

Bunny & Ozzie in defence of aussie men - i dont know anyone that would bother to enter one of those shows let alone cry over food. As the youngest of 5 kids and only 2 of them daughters i can still remember my dad talking to me before my netball grandfinal when i was about 11yo - 'now listen here if you lose today, i dont want to see any tears. Right if you start crying you will be walking home. Understood?' I have no doubt that when he was football coach for all of my brother similar speeches would have been said...not all aussie men are soppy! (btw we won so didnt have to worry about walking
Bunny good luck with shopping - i feel so much better with jeans that are comfy - and i actually managed to get skinny jeans with the elastic waist! (oh and i just read so did you)

Homebound Congratulaions on your BFP!!! Great to have you over xx

Hermya IKWYM I have been reading about BF and wondering if i am going to be up to it (I hope so after all of this pain) I would like to. I also want to make sure I use cloth nappies (looking at bamboo actually) We talked about not letting the LO watch TV, and not sticking them in front of it just so we can have a break. I think my DH will want to have LO on a bike and loving the out doors as soon as they can sit up! We really want to make sure that we spend time with LO reading and so on.

Roses Fantastic news on your scan, and your little man! have you decided on the name yet?

Good news on all the other scans too

Sorry if i missed anyone

I am doing much better this week, went back to work on monday, i did slightly shorter days and by friday i was a zombie. So hoping to have a relaxing morning with saturday kitchen and then head to MIL later. Her surgery went well and she sounds good, I dont think they had to remove as much breast tissue as they thought, but i will find out later. Funny that you guys were saying boys love their mum's - my DH has been a mess this week worrying about his mum, he is a big softy.
I am 17 weeks now, and the belly has well and truly popped, i look so different now. Have been feeling some movement on the side of my tummy, DH keeps trying to feel it. I hope he gets a big movement soon.

Hope everyone has a good BH weekend, and for the aussies enjoy the good weather, as its probably still warmer down your way

Spirael · 01/05/2010 12:04

Afternoon, all! Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. The weather is just about holding on here, though clouds are gathering and it sounds like we'll be having some rain later... Ah well, I'm only pottering around inside the house today anyway.

I'm pleased to announce that the long awaited nursery photographs are now available in my profile. So feel free to take a look if you're interested.

Congratulations, Homebound and welcome to the graduates thread. Though by the looks of things we've nearly filled this one up and will need to be starting another one soon!

I'm glad to see the number of boys and girls predicted has balanced out. We were starting to get a bit baby-girl heavy in here, when it should by all accounts be an even split!

To be honest, I actually prefer a lot of the boys clothes as well. I really can't stand the girly-girly pink lace and frills stuff that seems to be the staple for girls. I really hope to get some nice little dungarees in maybe blue or purple, and t-shirts without glitter or 'princess' pasted all over them. So far I've managed to avoid buying anything pink - woo! Just got to persuade my friends/family to do the same...

As for what I'm hoping/aiming for with Gadget... Well, I can join the club of hoping that breastfeeding works out for us. I also hope that Gadget is a good sleeper and that I can grab stretches of three or four hours through the night.

Aside from that... Assuming the sonographer was correct with her gender prediction, I hope Gadget isn't too girly - I have no idea how I'd cope! However I hope that we can do lots of cooking and crafts together, as soon as Gadget is old enough. I also hope that Gadget takes after my DH, to be tall, slender and blue eyed. Rather than short, cuddly and murky eyed like me!

But to be honest, no matter how things turn out, I'm sure Gadget will be perfect to me.

WorrisomeHeart · 01/05/2010 15:12

Hi all - only a few days away and so much to catch up on..

Congrats to homebound! Welcome to the other side!

roses so happy for you about the boy! Thats brilliant!

trying hope all is well, can't wait to hear how you're getting on!

hermya lucky lucky you feeling the baby so early - I can't wait for that.

bunny at your dh and the comment re fat! I was trying on a couple of mat tops today and my DH very helpfully said 'it makes you look bigger then you are' Gee thanks DH!

Had my 16 week check yesterday and all is hunky dory! Heard Mr Teeny's heartbeat again, lovely and strong. I think the best thing was the m/w wrote on my notes 'All is well' - I just thought that was such a lovely thing! I also got the ok to fly which is great, so we're booking our tickets to NZ next week.

Today we went shopping so I could try and find some new clothes that would fit over the mini-bump and enormous boobs! Not an easy task and very depressing really - got fitted for a maternity bra (and aren't they revolting!) and have gone up three cup sizes, which just seems a little extreme!! And most of the maternity clothes (when I found shops that had some!) were too big still. I guess I'm just in that in-between stage still, which is not fun. Did get a gorgeous jersey from TopShop Maternity though and I also managed to buy no less than 3 babygros, 4 vests and 2 bibs - so not a complete bust!!

Anyway, will stop rabbbiting on now, hope you are all having a fab weekend!

WorrisomeHeart · 01/05/2010 15:14

spireal meant to say - fab nursery pics - did you do all the wall murals yourself?

DesperateHousewife21 · 01/05/2010 15:32

roses yeah I can feel his little head quite often he seems to find it comfy being pressed against the front wall. Ive also decided he likes supermarkets as he goes quite wild when we're in one!

OMG sorry about forgetting capricorn! I must have completely missed that one or just didnt see her due date written down, whoops!! YAY we have two 2011 babies now

Hermya321 · 01/05/2010 20:00

Ebay is an evil entity and should be banned, I was bidding on the most nicest skirt and some 'thing' came and outbid me at the last second.

I'm hoping for a second chance offer.

Been at work today and not really done all that much, it was really slow going today. It was probably the rain, I love the rain. It makes everything so much easier sometimes.

Everyone is so realistic about what they want from their kids and the experience of having them.

If I was being really delusional, I would say that I was my children to be rosy cheeked and to run around in fields full of poppys on sunny days dressed in white. Plus they would be really happy and smiley, never have tantrums and sleep right through the night. Oh and they would never smell horrid either. I would also waft around in said field picking strawberries to make jam with that I would sell to Harrods for like £10 a jar.
