...now the "Crazy Baby Ladies"!

Had the idea to start this thread because, after getting my BFP on Monday, it suddenly dawned on me that I was going to lose contact with a lot of lovely people. I feel sad every time anyone leaves (though obviously happy for you that you've got your BFP) and thought this might be a nice idea, so that we can continue to keep in touch. After all, we've been through a lot together, haven't we?!

Also, I felt a bit out of my depth on the other threads, where it seemed like most of the members had already had children. There didn't seem to be a "first-timers" thread on here. (Unless I missed it!)

So here goes!

Ugh, I really am cringing here! So sorry to have worried you! There's a long "explanation" post over on the Conception thread.

Hobnob - the midwife told me that to get your EDD, they add 9mths and 7 days to the date of your last period. Then if your scan shows more than a week's difference, they alter it. Otherwise, they just leave it. I take it you've no health problems or they'd be getting you in to see the doctor? Are you low risk? I have got a health problem, so that's why my doctor took blood - so my medication could be adjusted. The midwife just went through forms with me. Nothing urgent - just things like the father's details, whether we've a family history of difficult births, etc. Really could have waited, so I wouldn't worry that I've been seen and you haven't...

Hamster - good to see you checking in. Sorry to hear about the sickness though.

Pixie, Curly and Claire - can't believe I worried you all like that... Soooo sorry!

Afternoon all! I'm glad everything is ok, WhiteRoses. To be honest, when I saw your posts had vanished I just assumed you'd accidentally managed to delete yourself or something.

My sympathies to everyone experiencing morning sickness. It's pretty horrible to have! Mine was at its worst at about 9-10 weeks but trailed off after that, until now at 14 weeks it's pretty much vanished.

In fact at the moment I don't really feel very pregnant at all. If it wasn't for my ever expanding chest and the beginnings of a belly I'd be in complete denial!

Though I was sulking earlier in the week when one of my colleagues idly commented that I didn't have a bump yet. I've been wearing maternity clothes for the last two weeks because even my bigger clothes were tight around my tummy! My belly definitely juts out beyond my chest.

However, I guess I just look fat currently. Ah well... I'm sure things will change in time-!

WhiteRoses · 21/01/2010 18:24

Spireal - lol! To be honest, that would've been more like it!

I've been very lucky that I've had no morning sickness yet... But I'm not even 6wks pregnant yet so won't count my chickens!

As for the belly thing... My clothes are tight! Especially at night, I have to undo the top button on my trousers! I don't know why this is, because surely an apple pip can't be taking up THAT much space and I'm eating healthier, so definitely amn't just getting fatter! Weird! I'll be the size of an elephant by the time I'm done! Lol!

OP posts:
Hermya321 · 21/01/2010 18:43

Whiteroses You've not just got an apple pip in there. You've also got a bag of amniotic fluid in there and a placenta. They probably take up a bit of room as well. Or.....do twins run in your family? Sorry I'm being cheeky again and posting over here. Glad you're ok though.

WhiteRoses · 21/01/2010 19:54

Hermya - dad's mum was one, but good God, I hope not!!! Lol! No, I suppose you're right - there's a lot of fluid in there. It is funny though - fat already!

(And it's nice to see people crossing over - that was the whole point in the thread, wasn't it?)

OP posts:
Hermya321 · 21/01/2010 22:41

whiteroses I wasn't too sure if I had to be pg to be posting over here. It's quite nice to see you all writing about your experiences and will kinda clue me into what i'm letting myself in for. So twins do run in your family, my dh says they do in his and keeps joking about how nice it would be to have them ourselves. Personally i'm not too sure on that one.

zippys · 22/01/2010 08:46

I know I may well be mad saying this, BUT I would really really like twins. I know it is different when you have your own but I have looked after a lot of children including triplets before and so think I could cope with twins. (COuld be seriously regretting that statement in the future!!)

Spirael · 22/01/2010 09:31

Sickness didn't start for me until around the sixth week, so there's time yet for morning sickness to creep up, WhiteRoses... Mine started off as being easily ignored, but slowly got worse. Then, fortunately, eased off again.

I had to move into larger clothes pretty early too. Fortunately I used to be a couple of clothes sizes bigger and kept most of my clothes from then! I think the gain was mostly through delightful bloating and constipation at the early stages, and I went for bigger clothes than necessary due to the fact that MS was much worse if I had a tight waistband.

I didn't really start getting anything that could be considered bump-like until about 12 weeks. It seems to develop during the day so I look pretty far gone in the evenings, then mysteriously disappears by morning! I'm not quite sure what I do with it overnight.

There's no history of twins in my family, so it would have been a pretty major shock if they'd turned up! Two scans have shown that I just have one in there though, which for my situation is probably for the best as I'm not entirely sure where I'd have put two babies in my house.

It seems that everyone else local to me that's getting pregnant at the moment seems to be having twins, though! That's all fine and dandy and I wish them the best, but I'm getting kinda and by all the comments of mutual friends that are along the lines of "Oh, you're only having one, Spirael? X is having twins, you know. Aren't twins exciting/cute/cool/etc? I bet X is really struggling/excited/thrilled/etc!"

Kinda makes it feel like my first baby singleton pregnancy just isn't interesting enough to be discussed, sometimes. Oh well... It's interesting to me and DH at least.

WhiteRoses · 22/01/2010 10:27

Hermya - the whole point of the thread was to keep in touch with everyone, so I for one think it's nice.

Nah, I wouldn't say twins do run in the family really... I've got a very big family and that was the only set, and there are none on DH's side. Hopefully we're pretty safe! Seriously, I'm going to struggle enough with one - two would be just insane! Lol!

Zippys - I think it'd be nice for the baby in the sense that they'd have someone so close to grow up with. But for the sake of my own sanity, I REALLY hope there's only one in there!

Spireal - did you HAVE to tell me that?! Lol! No, you know I'd actually rather know. But fingers crossed I'll somehow avoid it - wouldn't that be great? I know my mum never had it (five pregnancies), and neither did her mum (ten pregnancies) so I'm REALLY hoping there are some good genes somewhere that I might have inherited... (That's it totally jinxed now, isn't it?! )

Funny to hear that you notice a difference in the size of your belly at different times of the day... I've actually measured my waist this morning, to prove a point to DH, who thinks I'm making it up! Will measure again tonight but I swear there's a difference!

Aww! That's rotten that people are saying that to you about twins... But I suppose it doesn't matter at the end of the day, does it? You're going to have exactly what you want and that's what matters. What about your family? Are they not pretty excited about your little "singleton"?!

OP posts:
NovemberAli · 23/01/2010 15:12

Yep whiteroses, nausea hit me in the sixth week as well - very disappointed I don't have weird and wonderful cravings, only food aversions!

pixiestix · 23/01/2010 16:11

Ooh twins, I hadn't really thought about that much. My aunt and uncle are twins so there are twins in the family, but I don't think being related to non-identical twins boosts your own chances much? Def not as much as identical twins? [completely ignorant emoticon!] I'm not entirely sure I can cope with one screaming baby, two might tip me over the edge! But how cute...

I'm getting the big bad bloat aswell WhiteRoses! Its not fat, its just bloating!!! I can't stand anything on my tummy at the moment, which is fine when I'm at home (DH is loving my new trouserless look! ) but not so good at work. I keep wanting to put my hands under my waistband and lift it off my belly - very suspicious looking!

Reading all the books in sight, and lots of them say that if you suffer from motion sickness/ travel sickness then morning sickness can be very bad. I am the most motion sick person in the entire world so that doesn't bode well. Might start stocking up on ginger immediately! (Thats a green faced "boak" emoticon!!)

sparklyrainbow · 23/01/2010 21:37

After a 'proper' believable BFP this morning (CBdigital, so worth it so no 'is that a line?' stuff) I am here now! Yay! Test said 2-3 weeks, I'm a week late so prob nearer 3 weeks I guess. Feeling quite excited but a bit scared too. We're going to have a mad year, getting married in May, moving house if we can sell ours and now Sept baby

So far have ridiculously sore boobs, gone up a cup size and am exhausted. Had to have a day off work yesterday after a really hectic week, no way I could have taught a full day, I could barely move! Still so tired so having a quiet night in, seriously considering bed in a few minutes! Bit bloated too... How's everyone else doing?

I'm here!

Trying4Baby1 · 24/01/2010 08:14

Hi everyone, it's been ages since I've been on so I didn't know about this thread but great idea whiteroses!! I've missed how friendly everyone was in the conception thread it's not quite the same in the april thread! Hope everyone's doing well! I've been okay except for not sleeping very well. I just keep waking up at stupid O' clock. Been up since 5.45 this morning as I couldn't get back to sleep. Was hoping for a long lie this weekend so not a happy bunny! I've updated the list to put in my due date and I was told I was expecting a girl too.

To all those people who are worried they don't have much of a bump, don't worry it will come. Mine is now getting in the way when I try to tie up my walking boots and more worryingly I had problems trying to see my bikini line the other day . Not something I can really ignore as I'm going swimming every week just now.

congrats sparks and nice to have you along trying - can't beleive how far along you are already!

pixie it's the other way round. Non-identical twins are hereditary, identical are one-offs. My OH has non-ID twin aunt and uncle, and cousins. But thankfully we're just having the one.

I finally got booked in with the Midwives last night, so plenty of reading to get through now!

pixiestix · 24/01/2010 15:22

Oh god Curly, I definitely should have paid more attention in biology, din't know that about twins at all!! Hmmm, so there is a chance of twins for me - I don't know quite how I feel about that!

Just updating the list with my EDD

ceebs05 · 24/01/2010 17:31

Hi,

I'll come over too if that's ok - got my BFP on Friday and according to LMP will be 5 weeks on Tuesday. According to LMP, EDD is 29 Sept, although could be wrong as cycles have varied in recent months.

Can't really believe it's real - don't think I will until I have a scan. It's weird how shocked DH and I were even though this is what we have been aiming for!!!

Hobnob76 · 24/01/2010 21:25

Hi and welcome ceebs and sparkly

I'm about 5 weeks now, found out a week ago and have to say the last week seems like a lifetime! I did a CBD this morning and it came up with Pregnant and 3+ almost instantly I'm absolutely knackered, feel like I could sleep on a washing line, I'm also getting really bloated by the evening. ceebs we were shocked too like you, and we'd been trying too, I think we were more shocked that it happened in our 1st proper month of trying!

pepperonipizza · 25/01/2010 06:21

Ooh, are we putting babies gender too?! I can put mine in, found out on Christmas Eve!

Am really glad to see Trying over here - a month ahead of me, so you can tell me what to expect!!! Has your bump been growing slowly or did it suddenly arrive? I have an okay sized one, but am hoping it moves up a little (still think that if you didn't know I was pg, you wouldn't say anything IYSWIM!).

Hobnob - I know just what you mean about 5 weeks seeming forever, the first trimester really dragged for me. I was so dying for 12 weeks so I could see the baby on the scan! It's flying by now though. Almost at the 3rd trimester!

Had a lovely weekend and much stronger kicks the last two days. DP felt kicks for the first time on Sat, he was really excited, nice to share it with him finally. My belly moves now with the kicks too!!

TishTosh21 · 25/01/2010 08:39

CurlyCasper · 25/01/2010 09:35

Congrats ceebs!

pixie - don't worry, your chances of twins are still low.

pep i'm so desperate for baby to start kicking. I keep concentrating to see if I can feel quickening, but unlikely at 14+5! belly getting nicely rounded, and in some outfits I am unmistakably pregnant. so, of course, those are the ones I am wearing

Spirael · 25/01/2010 10:41

Morning all! Congratulations to all the new graduates.

Hee, I'm the same, CurlyCasper. I was so pleased yesterday when one of my friends commented that I was starting to look pregnant now. Not many of my normal clothes fit now without being stretched. I don't want to damage them, so I've pretty much shifted entirely to maternity clothes.

Sure it looks like I'm wearing a tent at the start of the day... But by mid-afternoon my bump sneaks out again! I don't think it's entirely bloating, as it feels pretty solid. I wonder whether everything pops out of my pelvis during the day, then kinda slides back overnight? I have no idea if that's even possible.

I'm not sure whether or not I'm feeling movement yet... I keep thinking I do, but I can't really tell. Yesterday evening my cat decided to jump on me while I was sprawled on the bed. When she walked over my stomach I'm pretty sure I felt something... But then I'm not sure. Oh well... I'm sure in time it'll get stronger!

My family is pleased, WhiteRoses. My Mum was telling me about one of her friend's DIL having twins... However in the moment of silence that followed while I tried to figure out the best tactical response, I think Mum picked up a bit on my emotions. She immediately continued on with how she much preferred having just one grandchild to start with, so she could get used to the idea and not have to split the love and attention straight away.

I live 200 miles from my parents, I only see them a few times in the year and they can still both read me like a book - even down a scratchy telephone line. I hope I have the same connection to my LO!

TishTosh21 · 25/01/2010 11:47

My tummy has suddenly grown!! Ive been having to do jeans up with a hairband for a couple of weeks now but suddenly today its like my tummy has just popped out! It looks more bump like than just flab.

I know that maternity trousers/jeans will be too big but my normal jeans are too small and I cant go out in jogging bottoms all the time, whats a girl to do??

p.s. I have a v bad case of stuffy nose

Spirael · 25/01/2010 12:28

Do your maternity jeans have elastic you can tighten in them, TishTosh? I've just pulled mine tight for my work trousers and jeans and it seems to be keeping them up ok. As I get bigger, I'll just loosen it off.

My nose has been a bit stuffy too. I'm really hoping it's just because of the increased blood volume that can theoretically cause a stuffy nose or nosebleeds.

DH has had a cold for the last week and I'm worried that I'll catch it from him. He's kept himself going dosed up on Lemsip and using the various nasal sprays to ease the symptoms. But I can't do that!
