Your boss sounds like she has foot in mouth disease, Pixie. I really hope she was just shocked into saying mindless things rather than seriously meaning them. My boss was great when I told him... He said congratulations and that he was thrilled for me. He then went on about how if I needed time off that was fine, and how I could take a laptop and work from home if necessary. Guess I got lucky!
I had a private scan at 9 weeks where everything looked good, so I told close friends and family after that point. Mostly because it was Christmas and it seemed like a good time to do it. I made the pregnancy public knowledge after my NHS scan at 13 weeks. However I'm still in that 'fat or pregnant?' stage, so I don't think random strangers have realised yet.
My next NHS scan (20 weeks) is on the 4th March, WhiteRoses. Another 5 weeks away yet! Seems such a long time. Seeing the MW a week today though and going to beg ask nicely to hear the heartbeat, which'll put me at ease a bit. I have a suspicion though that after the MW appointment next week I'll have nothing until the scan!
It seems a pretty unusual preferance, but I'm actually vaguely crossing my fingers for a boy to start with. Several reasons... Firstly because I can then fob off all the coming of age chats to DH to do. Secondly because for both DH and I our families consist of girl then boy for children and I want to break the trend! Lastly, because I'm a Scout leader so have had more experience dealing with young boys than girls.
However, DH would like a daughter first. I think partially because he thinks he can then fob the coming of age chats off to me! I think he also loves the idea of being adored by a little girl, because little girls generally love their daddies. My DH is quite effeminite, loves baking and such, so I think he'd feel more confident with a girl.
It's quite convenient in a way that we each have a preference opposite to one another. I feel happy when my DH is happy, even if it goes against what I was originally wanting. So if I have a girl that's fine by me, I'll be just as thrilled as having a boy! Maybe that seems kind of weird... But it works for us.
Some flippant witty responses might include "Were you?" or "I don't remember...", Ozzie.
The regular question I get asked is "But I thought you were moving to Canada!".
Um... I still am. They do let babies in to Canada, you know.
Anyway... I'll stop now. Another long one! Here's more cookies, lovingly handmade by my DH.
