...now the "Crazy Baby Ladies"!

Had the idea to start this thread because, after getting my BFP on Monday, it suddenly dawned on me that I was going to lose contact with a lot of lovely people. I feel sad every time anyone leaves (though obviously happy for you that you've got your BFP) and thought this might be a nice idea, so that we can continue to keep in touch. After all, we've been through a lot together, haven't we?!

Also, I felt a bit out of my depth on the other threads, where it seemed like most of the members had already had children. There didn't seem to be a "first-timers" thread on here. (Unless I missed it!)

So here goes!

bunny happy anniversary how many years?

i was at work today and got a phone call from the Doctor asking me to go to the surgery as soon as possible. I had to tell my boss that i was pregnant in order to leave work early so not quite how i imagined letting work know Got to the docs and it turns out that my platelet levels have dropped again. They are going to do more bloods on Monday and he has booked me in for another scan on Wednesday.

Hope you all have a nice weekend.

mumnerves · 23/04/2010 19:51

bunny glad you're starting to 'bloom' I know what you mean by the am I imagining things feeling. I sometimes wonder if I'm psyching myself to feel sick and keeping my period at bay Congrats on the anniversary, hope you have/had a good evening

worrisome hope you're feeling better soon.

whiteroses nice to have you back, hope you had a good holiday. Glad your sickness is better but sorry about the sore bum. I didn't know we could leak so early

fudge pleased that you could hear the heartbeat. Keeping fingers crossed for you. I hope you haven't had any bleeding again today.

Not much to report, the only thing that keeps my nausea at bay are apples so am scoffing lots of them. Ginger only makes it worse

WorrisomeHeart · 23/04/2010 20:08

Oh fudge you poor thing. For the non-medical amongst us, what does it mean that your platelet levels have dropped? Is that something related to the spotting? Will keep fingers crossed for Wed.

bunny we are planning on going at the start of June - we're not booking the tickets until after my next m/w check on Friday. The reason for the trip is that I'm supposed to be bridesmaid for one of my oldest friends so I can't really avoid the 26 hour flight unfortunately! Am not looking forward to it - do you think big bump = upgrade? Maybe if I promise to name the baby after the airline..
Hope you had a lovely anniversary!

mumnerves glad you've found something to help with the nausea - I wonder if it's the high liquid content, I found cucumbers good for that reason.

mumnerves · 23/04/2010 20:37

worrisome how far will you be then? Maybe if you huff and puff at the check in desk then maybe they'll upgrade you.
Just had a little smile at the thought of you naming the baby after the airline??! Virgin or BA, just imagine shouting that out in the playground
I don't think it's the liquid content but the slight tartness. Anything too tart and it comes back with a vengence. I am drinking like a camel though so the increased liquid intake is definately a requirement at the moment

WorrisomeHeart · 23/04/2010 20:46

I'll be 21 weeks when we fly out and 23 on the way back - I think it will be more likely to be Qantas, which is a nice unisex name...

Yeah the liquid thing is interesting - I've found it has continued but comes in waves, for instance at the moment I'm parched and tryng to convince DH to get me a glass of juice so that I don't have to get off the couch!!

bunnygirl80 · 24/04/2010 00:20

fudge sorry you didn't get to tell work in the way you wanted. DOes the doctor have any idea why your platelets are dropping?

We've been married for 5 years - which as DH realised yesterdya, is one sixth of our lives!

mumnerves glad you're coping with the nausea. I find chewing gum helps me alot - I'm getting through packets of the stuff.

worrisome lol at calling the baby Qantas - it does have a certain ring to it though And it sounds better than Air New Zealand I think if you tell them you're pg when you book, they'll try and give you a seat with extra leg room, and on the end of a row so you can get up easily to go to the toilet! Remember to get your midwife to write you a certificate saying you're safe to fly as well.

I flew out to Oz on Emirates (the flight stops off in Sydney then carries on to Auckland) and I have to say their new A380 planes are lovely. The seats in economy are massive - I could easily sit cross legged on mine. They might be worht a look for you as I think when I flew they were slightly cheaper than Qantas.

We had a lovely meal last night. DH got very impatient though as I wanted steak, and it took 45mins to cook well done. He does not like being made to wait for his food

WorrisomeHeart · 24/04/2010 09:27

bunny sounds like you had a lovely night out - congrats again! Our anniversary is 2 weeks before the LO is due, so I have a feeling it will be a pizza on the couch! Ah well... We have discounted Emirates because it has an extra stop in Dubai - so Ldn-Dubai-Melb/Syd-Auck and then we've got to get an internal flight to Wellington. It just extends the travel time that much longer. They are good though - I've flown them once and was really impressed with the food which is not something you can normally say about airplane food! We might look for a flight which has a stopover so that at least we can sleep for a bit..

Spoke to my sis today - she's just hit 6 weeks and the nausea has stepped up. It's funny but that all seems so long ago, even though it's only 3 weeks since I've been feeling better. So much happens so quickly doesn't it? It also seems like years ago that we were TTCing and I was convinced we wouldn't get to this stage without intervention. Gee, I'm very philosophical today!

Hope everyone has a great weekend and good luck to any DH/DP's who are running the marathon!

Hermya321 · 24/04/2010 10:49

Hello there!!!

Well it's a lovely weekend here, I can actually see a bright orange ball thingy in the sky. I wonder what it is?

I can't remember if I told you, but I went to see health people at work and had a talk with them about what was going on. Good news is I'm not going crazy and that I've got antenatel anxiety. The woman who saw me had suffered from it herself and was very nice to me. So all being well I'll go back next week. It will be interesting because I really think pregnancy has taken my tact filter off of my mouth. My friend says she can't wait to see what I say.

I can imagine insulting a few people, including those who tell me 'watch what you're eating now'. I can see a withering retort along the lines of 'I'm pregnant whats your excuse' flying through the room as I melt in horror and embarrasment.

Fudge Have they given you anymore idea whats going on? Am thinking of you.

Bunny Happy anniversery!!! I hope you had a nice time.

Worrisome You could always cry at the check in desk or flirt outragously. It all really depends on who you get doesn't it. If it helps, for my last anniversery I went out for pizza. It was fab!

White How was your holiday? Did you manage to see all the sights of the Lakes?

NovemberAli · 24/04/2010 18:07

Sorry to hear you've been having such a stressful time Fudge, really hoping for good results from the Docs for you next week, I'm sure LO will be fine.

Worrisome - I def think being pg is a good reason to be bumped up to business class, it's definitely worth asking

Good to hear you're feeling reassured Hermya, sounds like you are getting some good advice now, hope you're feeling better soon.

Congratulations on your anniversary Bunny, hope you had a lovely day!

I've had my first congratulations from a complete stranger today, I guess you really can tell I'm pg now! Was staring to worry that I hadn't felt Little H move today but now think he/she must have turned around because it feels like kicks to my intestines, weird!

mumnerves · 24/04/2010 19:49

Bunny Thanks for the chewing gum tip! Tried it today and it worked, so something else that I can just pop into my handbag and have to hand . I thought it might as mints also work

Hermya glad you've got someone to chat to about your anxieties, and pleased to hear you're reassured.

Novemberali How lovely it must be to feel little H move. I can't wait to get to that stage

worrisome how about trying singapore airlines? I always try to fly with them if heading out to that side of the world and they're service is really good, prices not too unreasonable either?!

I was shattered this afternoon and spent most of it lying on a deck chair outside half asleep. It was lovely but I've got so much to do around the house that I feel very very guilty about it. Did anyone else feel like this when they were shattered and had to rest? It was DH that ordered me to rest as he said I looked really miserable.

fudgecat · 25/04/2010 09:46

worrisome the doctor was initially worried that it could be pre eclampsia or HELLP but he has ruled those out as my BP is still ok. The low platelet thing could be an indicator that I have liver or kidney problems so that?s what tomorrows blood tests are for. No idea if the platelet issue is connected with the spotting\cramps or not... it does make me worry though as platelets are involved with clotting...

bunnygirl glad you had a nice anniversary meal

hermya the big orange ball in the sky has gone glad to hear you are feeling better but take it easy at work next week

mumsnerves good on you for having a nice restful afternoon, I nearly got my hammock out yesterday but then remembered we have moss killer on the lawn so not supposed to walk on it until it has soaked in

No change for me ? still spotting and still having cramps, 72 hours til the scan... Anyone else going to be watching the London marathon today?

fudgecat · 26/04/2010 08:32

have you lot all won the lottery and run off together?

Hermya321 · 26/04/2010 09:17

Fudge Well if they have, I certainly didn't get the text message? Maybe we'll have some luck on next weeks draw. How you feeling?

fudgecat · 26/04/2010 09:28

im doing ok thanks hermya i haven't gone into work today as i need to get to the docs for the blood tests. The spotting has also eased off quite a bit since yesterday so that can only be a good thing.

Oh there was one bit of good news that i forgot to mention - i got the results from the nuchal scan and my odds are 1 in 2500

Spirael · 26/04/2010 09:32

Didn't match a single number on the lottery this weekend, so no big escape for me. I've just been busy over the past week or so with decorating the nursery, so not got online much. Back at work today though (boo!) so have time to post again (yay!).

The nursery is almost done! The bulk of it is finished; just need to put some shelves up, sort some cabling and construct the cot. I'll take some pictures later in the week once things are sorted. I like how it's turned out, though it's putting The Fear into me, seeing a proper room for the baby in my house. I'm really going to have to be a Mother in just under three months - eek!

I haven't noticed an update from Fulhamgirl yet... I assume she's still busy with baby Lily? Hope things are going well, if you're reading this, Fulhamgirl!

I hope things are going ok for everyone else too! I've not had time to catch up with everything, but saw the discussion about anniversaries and just wanted to add that my 5th wedding anniversary is when I'll be 38 weeks! I'm guessing we'll be staying in for a peaceful evening at home...

WorrisomeHeart · 26/04/2010 19:36

If we do win the Lotto, you know the first thing I'll be buying is that crib..

fudge great news re the nuchal fold - when do you get the results back?

spireal how exciting to have the nursery nearly done - can't wait to see the pics.

mumnerves definitely don't feel guilty about being lazy - I spent the day at home yesterday while DH was slogging around the marathon, and felt great! (In my defence, this is his 4th marathon so I've done the whole supportive wife thing many a time before!)

Hermya great that you've found a good support system at work too - how are you feeling now?

november how cool getting random congrats!

Hermya321 · 26/04/2010 19:47

I'm feeling a lot better now, still having panicky anxious moments. But now that I know whats going on I can sort of talk myself out of it.

I had to go to the dentist today, they gave me a filling. I hate dentists!

Other than that, gearing myself up to go back to work. One of my friends showed up the other day with flowers and chocolate for me. It was really nice of her. The chocolates were lovely.

Worrisome What would you do with that crib? I wonder if anyone bought it?

Spireal I can't wait to see the pictures of your nursery.

Fudge Great news about the nuchal fold results. When do you go for your scan?

fudgecat · 26/04/2010 20:14

worrisome i should hear about todays blood tests Wednesday or Thursday but they said they would only contact me if there was a problem

hermya the scan is Wednesday morning. Well done at the dentists, i hate the dentists

Trying4Baby1 · 26/04/2010 21:06

Hiya all, well due date was yesterday and no baby as yet. worriesome haven't really had any twinges apart from sometimes it feels like she's bouncing on my cervix. Had some pain under my stomach but midwife says that's normal as there's lots going on down there getting everything ready.

Had an appointment at the hospital yesterday as they wanted me in on my due date and I now have some swelling of my hands and feet and very slight protein levels in my urine which up until now has been fine. Blood pressure's still fine so they're not too worried I've to go back in on Thursday and phone before that if I'm at all worried. Still feel ok but the baby still hasn't moved down as far as she should so I'll be a wee while yet.

Also had the worst luck today as my washing machine broke this morning. Couldn't really have had worse timing! Oh well.

pixiestix · 26/04/2010 22:26

Hi all, I'm still around too, just feeling very tired and lazy. Got my 20 week scan booked for the 14th May and can't wait to see how the LO is getting on in there. I'm still not feeling any movement, other than the occasional swish which is practically imaginary, so it will be nice to see if all is ok.

Thinking of you Fudge and hoping that you will get no news on the bloods (which sounds like that would = good news)

Getting really excited for you Trying! Just think, the timing of the washing machine could have been a bit worse - imagine if you had popped three days ago and were surrounded by nappies right now! Hopefully the baby is holding tight until the machine is all fixed.

Still no news from Fulham? I want to hear all about little Lily and see some scrummy pics. Hope you are enjoying being a Mummy too much to think about us Ful!

bunnygirl80 · 27/04/2010 00:05

I haven't won the lottery either, just been busy this weekend as it was a public holiday so DH had 3 days off

spirael You're so organised having the nursery finished already. Can't wait to see some pics.

hermya glad you are starting to feel more able to control your anxiety - knowing the cause must make it easier to deal with

worrisome congrats to your DH for running 4 marathons

fudge glad the spotting seems to be stopping. Hope your bloods come back OK

trying I hope you manage to get your washing machine fixed before the baby arrives.

There seems to be a lot of dislike of dentists on this thread....maybe I should just leave now!

I've been feeling a lot less sick and much more energetic - we went for an 11km bushwalk yesterday! I still can't stop myself from worrying that this might signal a problem, although I know it's likely that I'm just reaching the stage where I should be starting to feel better. My scan is in 2 days though so not long until I find out one way or the other

Ozziegirly · 27/04/2010 05:58

Hello everyone, nice to catch up one everyone's news.

fudge I hope all is well with you.

Trying - very exciting that the due date has passed! Good luck xx

bunnygirl I also feel pretty energetic and healthy at the mo and we have done loads of walking, so I wouldn't worry (I know, there's always something to worry about!)

All is good with me. 23 weeks now and feel great. I went to a pilates in pregnancy class on saturday which was v enjoyable, although mainly because it was a load of women sitting around gossiping about pregnancy and babies.

DH had a busy weekend painting internal doors in our house and came back from the hardware store with new handles for the baby's wardrobe - little silver bears. I obviously welled up as they are so lovely and it was so thoughtful of him.

He has been so fab all the way through this pregnancy actually, I really appreciate him. He felt his first kick yesterday evening and I don't think I have ever seen a bigger grin.

Trying4Baby1 · 27/04/2010 08:26

pixie and bunny decided it would be easier to just get a new machine as my old one was actually 10 years old and I don't know if it could have been fixed. Didn't want to wait for someone to turn up and then tell me they couldn't get the parts any more. More of a problem with the bank holiday weekend as loads of places are closed. Actually managed to get down the high street yesterday and buy a machine and it's getting delivered sometime this morning, so I will soon have a new toy to play with. Would have just prefered to spend the money on something else though.

pixiestix · 27/04/2010 08:33

Thats annoying you had to shell out for a whole new machine. At least you are all prepared now though! Just need the baby to engage and you're off!

Bunny - 11km bushwalks?! Argh, I feel like such a couch potato now! You and Ozzie put me to shame I am sitting on my arse, drinking a chai tea latte and eating a big blueberry muffin!

Ozziegirly · 27/04/2010 08:37

pixie DH and I walked to the top of the highest "mountain" in Australia when we were on holiday a couple of weeks ago.....only about 13ks, but a bit steep....

But afterwards I was pretty knackered.

And pilates was very easy, more about relaxing and breathing, and we did a few squats and wall push ups but it was not "balance your weight on one toe" or anything.

Plus I have eaten half a bag of chocolate nuts this afternoon, so it's not all smuggery.
