...now the "Crazy Baby Ladies"!

Had the idea to start this thread because, after getting my BFP on Monday, it suddenly dawned on me that I was going to lose contact with a lot of lovely people. I feel sad every time anyone leaves (though obviously happy for you that you've got your BFP) and thought this might be a nice idea, so that we can continue to keep in touch. After all, we've been through a lot together, haven't we?!

Also, I felt a bit out of my depth on the other threads, where it seemed like most of the members had already had children. There didn't seem to be a "first-timers" thread on here. (Unless I missed it!)

So here goes!

Bunny An 11km bush walk? I can manage a walk around town before I have to go curl up for a nap somewhere.

Pixie Oooooo thats sounds nnniiiicceeee.

Trying How annoying! Did you get a good deal at least? We had to buy a washing machine earlier this year, some of them are so expennsive.

Trying4Baby1 · 27/04/2010 10:27

pixie yeah the good thing about this machine is that it's more economical and has a faster spin and a larger drum so will probably be useful for when the baby finally decides she's going to turn up.

Hermya there was £100 pounds off it so it could have been worse but you don't seem to be able to get many cheap, basic machines any more. Most of them have got more bells and whistles than you need. Never mind it's bought now so hopefully won't have to worry about it for a while.

Spirael · 27/04/2010 10:38

Aww, I like seeing the dentist, bunnygirl! But I've been very lucky to reach the age of 28 without needing any work doing at all. No fillings, no braces, nothing! I spend about 10 seconds in the chair normally, as the dentist looks at my teeth, tells me they're fine and kicks me out.

That's bad timing with your washing machine, Trying. The drying part of my washer/dryer packed up about three weeks ago, which was a bit inconvenient. Fortunately the weather was great so I didn't really struggle to get things dried for the week or so until I could acquire a replacement.

I know what you mean about rather having not had to pay the money on something like a washing machine, though! However I think I know what had broken on mine and it would have cost as much to repair as it cost to get a new machine delivered and installed. And this way the new machine is covered under warrenty for a couple of years - whereas the old one would likely have just kept breaking in different places.

I'm impressed at all the walking going on! I struggle to get myself out of bed and crawl to the car to drive to work at present! I am trying to make myself go for a walk into the city centre each day though, to get a bit of exercise. I give myself a task of acquiring one small item each day - normally for packing my hospital bag at present.

The blueberry muffin sounds good, Pixie. I just have a handful of blueberries to get me through to lunchtime... Trying to be healthy. I've gained around a stone and a half already, and I think I'm not meant to gain more than two stone according to the literature I've been given!

It's not too bad though, I gained about a stone in the first trimester and was really worried, but the gain rate trailed off during the second once I could actually eat healthy food again.

luckyseven · 27/04/2010 17:43

i have been guilty of hardly posting since i found out I was pregnant but this last week it has all started to seem a bit more real.

I will be 7 weeks on Thursday (according to my dates docs are 5 days after) and we are on the verge of telling our families which is really exciting and I am getting emotional planning how to tell them. We aren't telling friends just yet but God knows how i am going to hide it on Saturday night when 19 of us go out for dinner and drinks for my 30th birthday- i was never known for my abstinance and the place we are going doesn't even sell alcohol free beer - girls have you any deception tips?

I was off work last week, dh had booked a pre birthday trip to sicily for us but the ash cancelled those plans so we drove to the West Coast and stayed in a lovely house, went walking and cycling and even tracked down Father Ted's house!

My scan appointment came through for 10 weeks and of course sods law it is when we rebooked our holiday at the end of May so will have to wait an extra 3 days. I thought the appointment was 12 weeks but it seems in ni they take you at 10. Hoping that everything will be ok and that they can predict my due date better as i think it is 17th Dec (based on last period 17th March ov on cd9, 14 day luteal phase and positive test on cd23) Doc used the wheel and got 22nd December. Once i have stopped worrying about the baby being ok i will move on to worrying about a Christmas Day baby!

Last week i was super tired and started to feel strange from time to time and had the most painful nips imaginable - this morning was first day back and could hardly get myself out the door between wrethching, tiredness and bleeding gums - nice!

I am not sure if there is standard info you want to know about newbies to the thread. But let me know and I will oblige, looking forward to getting to know you all better so i can post messages to you all rather than this big selfish post!

Trying4Baby1 · 27/04/2010 19:37

Hiya lucky and welcome! There is a list somewhere that you can add your due date to if you wanted but no problem if you don't. Wow I remember back to telling the folks and I was nervous too but we waited until we had the first scan and just presented the scan photos to them...cue lots of confused faces until it sunk in.

As far as drink deception goes can you get away with spritzers or lemonade and lime is quite good as you can make out it's vodka. Or if you like vodka or gin and soda or tonic you could get away with just having the mixer. It's not going to be easy though. If your friends are anything like mine they will probably be buying shots. You can always do like they did on coyote ugly and pretend to have a swig of beer after but instead really be spitting the shot into the bottle. Good luck and hope you have a good time!

Hermya321 · 27/04/2010 19:40

Hello Luckyseven seven weeks, how exciting! Do you know your bean has a heartbeat now? As to deception tips, don't do antibiotics because everyone always uses that one. Try being on antihistamines, you aren't supposed to drink with certain types of them due to the fact that you'll get dizzy and sleepy. You could be a designated driver or alternatively you could try getting coke or lemonade and say that you've got vodka and coke or malibu and lemonade and just not let anyone near your drink. You can drink one or two if you want to. It won't do that much harm, I lasted until eight weeks before I decided that one glass wouldn't kill me (plus I was craving beer, go figure).

Where is Father Teds house?

You can have your dating scan at anypoint from eleven to thirteen weeks along with your nuchal (if you're getting one that is).

Also don't think we need specific information from you tbh. But I look forward to reading more from you.

Oh BTW nipping pains could be ligaments and uterus stretching.

luckyseven · 27/04/2010 19:54

hermya321 a heart the size of a poppy seed! One of our good life friends brough us some home made bread with poppy seeds on the top which was quite a coincidence and strangely exciting - so tiny! Father Teds house is in County Clare in the middle of nowhere near a place called Coolfin and near Enistymon - we got directions of google. Think i might have an ever lasting glass of wine with the meal and get down early for a virging gin and tonic. Might say i am struggling to face the demon drink after over doing it the night before on champagne and cocktails - dh will have no issue pretending i was a complete handful, it has been known!
Have you tried Warfsteiner alkohol frei beer - it is in Tesco and lovely? It has been my decoy when friends have been round for dinner, can't stand cobra and becks blue is ok.

trying4baby1 i like the coyote ugly idea, thankfully i never do Jaegerbombs so wouldn't be on the agenda. we are telling parents and in laws early but friends later. MIL is recovering from her second cancer in a year and dh is going to say to her how well she has been doing and just think that when she gets through chemo she will meet her first grandchild!

bunnygirl80 · 27/04/2010 23:40

trying glad you got your washing machine sorted, although it would be nice to have been able to spend the money on something more exciting

ozzie how great for your DH to feel his first kicks. And so sweet of him to buy those wardrobe handles.

pixie that muffin sounds yummy. And I'm not as virtuous as I make myself sound - I was too tired to cook after all that walking so we had Dominos pizza for dinner

spirael I'm glad someone on here doesn't mind the dentist, and well done on keeping your teeth so lovely

lucky Sorry your trip got cancelled, and it's just typical that your scan date is for when you rebooked it.

I'm probably not the best to advise on drink deception as I got rumbled straight away by some friends! I'd go for the never ending glass of wine trick, or if it needs emptying get your DH to have a swig when noones looking so you can have it topped up. My friend opted for a plan of getting to a place early and telling whoever would be looking after her table that she would be ordering a particular cocktail all night, but that she wanted the alcohol leaving out. That seems a bit risky to me as if the message doesn't get passed on to the bar staff properly you could end up drinking quite a lot without realising.

My dating scan and first obstetrician appointment are tomorrow. I'm a combination of really excited and extremely nervous - I hope everything's ok. We've finally decided to get the nuchal scan as well, so need to get that booked in asap as I'm 11 weeks on Friday so not much time left to get it.

pixiestix · 28/04/2010 08:54

Good luck with your scans today Bunny and Fudge

WhiteRoses · 28/04/2010 09:13

Five days now since I've been on and loads of catching up to do again! Oops! I really must get better at keeping up - dunno what's wrong with me lately! I don't even have an excuse for it this time!

Chance - lol! Leaking boobs and you think of me!

Thanks for the Gap tip, by the way. It would have been great. I went and printed off the voucher and all. Only problem is that I then found out that the only Scottish shop to stock the maternity range is in Edinburgh! Ridiculous! Women must not get pregnant elsewhere, eh?! Oh well... Ended up half killig myself on Sunday, traipsing about and searching. Finally got three tops in H&M, just as I was about to give up. Dunno if it's just me, but everything maternity just seems so ugly... Never mind. Suppose the extremely cute little baby clothes make up for it a bit!

Worrisome - fancy you having a sore bum too! I didn't even know it was possible! I never really sit down for more than about five minutes at a time in work, so I don't think I could ever have put mine down to that... Weird. I'm seeing the physio today though, cause I had to take another day off work yesterday, which just isn't really on. Mind you, that means that today, I'm barely sore at all, so the physio'll probably think I'm a right hypochondriac! Oh well!

Fudge - I'll be thinking of you today. I really hope all's well and you can just lie back and make the most of this extra chance you're getting to see your baby!

As for my holiday; it was really nice, thanks. We ended up looking at the weather forecast each morning, and heading where the weather was best! Luckily, I was only sick once the whole time too, so that was a nice bonus as well.

Bunny - sounds like you had a lovely anniversary and I hope the steak was worth the wait!

Mumnerves - glad the apples are helping and at least they're good for you! I was living off toast, cereal, crisps and biscuits in the beginning!

Aww, Worrisome, your poor sister just starting with the sickness. Ugh.

Hermya - I'm really glad you're feeling better, and great that the woman you saw was so understanding. Must be awful. x

November - congratulations on being congratulated by a stranger!

Why the nickname "H" though? I don't remember reading about that..?

Fudge - good news about the nuchal scan.

Spireal - how orgnanised, having the nursery nearly done! Will look forward to seeing the pictures.

Hermya - no one bought the crib - I "watched" it!

Trying - you must be so desperate to meet your LO now! Rotten luck about the washing machine, but as you say, I'm sure you'll get good use out of your new one!

Pixie - I know what you mean about the imaginary movement but I'd bet you anything that's your baby! I kept feeling little things and wondering if it was in my head, but now I'm feeling proper movement, I know that's exactly what I felt all along, just weaker... I can see why people feel it sooner with their second - it's hard to definitely recognise at first!

On Monday, I had my first really unmistakable pounding. Woke up, and my first thought was how sore my bum was, so I rolled over, onto the side of my tummy, to take the weight off it. Next thing I knew, I felt a little person protesting about having his space invaded!

Yes, his! I was going to leave this bit till the end but never mind! I'm having a boy! Scan yesterday was brilliant. Our son (!) was really really active throughout, even when he did lie still, he was drinking the amniotic fluid! Saw hands with fingers, feet with toes - amazing! And all the measurements were spot on.

Bunny - that's great news that you're feeling better. And don't worry - I don't mind dentists at all. Mind you, I was due a check-up when I got pregnant and since then, haven't been taking my usual good care of my teeth - being sick, drinking Lucozade, not brushing my teeth if I feel it's going to make me throw up... :-/ Oh well, twenty four years without a filling, if it's the price I have to pay to get through pregnancy and have my baby, so be it.

Ozzie - how lovely that your DH bought those little handles.

Gosh, you're all so good with your exercise! I'm just a big lump, doing less than ever before. Used to be that exercise made me sick. Now I can't walk to the bathroom without getting bum pain! Don't know how you're all managing it but well done!

Pixie - I'm so glad you're here! Lol! I feel so much less guilty having your company!

Spireal - people are normally surprised when I say I've gotten to 24 without needing any dental work done, so well done!

Lucky - nice to see you on here. The ash seems to have affected so many people! It's amazing really, when you think back to how you were lucky as a kid if you got to go on a plane once a year, and it was such a big deal when you did...

Sorry to hear about all the symptoms. I remember in the beginning, I had to stop and try and think why it was that I ever wanted to be pregnant in the first place! They say pregnancy's not an illness but you could've fooled me!

Actually, I thought it was pretty funny yesterday when the sonographer said to me "enjoy the rest of your pregnancy"! Either she's never been pregnant herself, or she's one of these mad lucky women who liked being pregnant! Don't get me wrong, my little boy's not even here yet and I would lay my life on the line for him, but I'm quite prepared to admit that pregnancy sucks!

Sorry, I went off on one a bit there! Happy birthday for when it comes!

Bunny - I'll be thinking of you today - good luck at the scan! That's three of us in two days, having our scans. They're so good though. I just wish we could have them daily!

Lucky - what a lovely way to tell your MIL. When do you plan on doing it?

I'm just sitting here, looking at what will be the contdents of our little boy's wardrobe. DH and I, my mum and my sister all went shopping (seperately!) yesterday after the scan and we have quite a few cute little man outfits now - I'm very sad, I know, but I have them all laid out where I can keep looking at them - they're so cute!

Right, I'm off in search of the list now - think it must be a few pages back - so I can update mine and Lucky's details!

fudgecat · 28/04/2010 16:34

ozzie that was a bit of an adventure you had, I am knackered just thinking about mountains!!

trying glad you got the washing machine sorted out . How are you feeling today?

luckyseven nice to hear from you, it?s a shame your holiday plans got mucked up but so cool that you went to see Father Ted?s house

bunnygirl how did your scan go today?

whiteroses congratulations on making it to the half way point ? that must be an odd feeling?

So I went for the scan today and little splodge is doing ok, was bouncing about lots. They have identified that the bleeding is coming from the placenta but that seems to be easing up a bit now. Mondays blood tests came back and have showed that my platelet levels have dropped even further so the doctor at the hospital is going to chase up the consultant referral for me. Guess it?s just more waiting for me now...

Oh they also said I have an anterior placenta so I probably won?t feel any movement for a while yet

chancewouldbeafinething · 28/04/2010 17:12

ooh I didn't realise I had been away for so long...that will teach me! Have some catching up to do...

I Am doing a bit better now, still dizzy but no fainting for 7 days, woop woop!
Saw the midwife yesterday, heard the heartbeat All seems well, havent felt any definite movements yet, but when the MW couldnt find the baby (damn the anterior placenta, fudge welcome to the club!) I said try over here, I think thats where I can feel it sometimes...and I was right!

MIL has her surgery today so we are all a bit worried about that at the moment, will be spending the weekend with her.

OK I have to catch up on the last few days....i will be back!

Pidgin · 28/04/2010 18:34

hi everyone, just catching up on news...

We had our 12-week scan today, was lovely to see the baby and everything in place. The NT results seemed good too. Very happy and now starting to spread the word, at long last!

Hope your scan went well bunny and glad to hear yours did fudge, sorry to hear about the platelet levels though. Hope you are feeling OK.

Congrats on reaching halfway, whiteroses!

and hello to everyone else!

DesperateHousewife21 · 28/04/2010 19:06

Hello all,

I havent been on this thread in ages, will go back and read up on whats been going on, I think Ive got about 5 pages to catch up on!

Not really alot to report here, Im 28+3 now! Had a midwife appointment today and she took my blood which they will check iron levels etc.

Hope everyone is doing well, will have to have a proper catch up in a bit but I think my dinner is burning so will love you and leave you!

Hermya321 · 28/04/2010 20:01

Hello my fellow lovely frolickers!

How are you all today?

I went back to work today and it went brilliantly. I was a bit nervous, but all went well in the end (that may have been due to the big cake I brought in though) . I've booked my maternity leave, so come September I'll have a few weeks of cake and bad TV before I have a LO to figure out what to do with. Joy!

I must admit I did spend some of the day auditioning for the part of the wicked witch, I got a bit tired and snappy. I was soon pulled out of it by one of my more smiley colleges. I also learned today that come next year, I'll be on another course with Mr Nice Voice again. That will be one very funny funny week.

White A boy!! You're having a boy!!! Thats SOOOOOOO COOOLLLL!!!!!!!!! Have you thought about names and the like?? CONGRATULATIONS!!! I guess that means that you won't be going halfs with me on the crib, shame that.

Desperate Hello there!! Did you rescue dinner?

Fudge Glad to hear that your scan went well, do they have a clue what is causing your platlets to go down? Or are you still in the proverbial dark?

Chance Great news on the heartbeat and the no fainting. When you back at work?

Ozziegirly · 29/04/2010 00:49

Whiteroses congratulations on your boy - it is fun knowing isn't it? I didn't know if I wanted to find out, but now I have, I am pleased. I can't wait to meet my son!

My son.

I'm another anterior placenta person, and now at 23 weeks I feel movements all the time, so it does come, but I didn't really feel anything at all until about 22 weeks. But even DH has felt them now, proper prods and kicks, enormous fun.

fudge I hope all is well re platelets, keep us updated as to what the reason is.

chance that is great news that you are feeling better.

I wonder if there is any news from trying yet and if her baby has made an entrance yet!

pidgin that's great news that the scan went well, congratulations! Now the fun can begin with telling people and you can relax a bit too.

bunnygirl80 · 29/04/2010 06:29

roses glad you had a nice holiday. Congrats on your little boy, and on making it to the halfway point

Hermya I'm glad your day at work went well. And you've got so much to look forward over the coming months - a new baby and anopther course with Mr Nice Voice

Pidgin congrats on the scan, enjoy telling everyone your news

chance Hope your MIL's op goes well and she recovers quickly. And I hope you continue to feel less dizzy

fudge I hope you get to the bottom of what's causing your problems with your platelets. And it's good news that your LO is still ok

So I've just got back from my booking in appointment and my dating scan. Scan was great - saw a very very wriggly baby indeed. The poor obstetrician struggled to get it to keep still long enough to do the measurement for dating EDD was confirmed as being exactly what I had thought.

The booking in part wasn't very exciting - I was expecting heaps of questions, but just got asked how I was feeling, weighed, BP done and reminded what not to eat! They have booked me every single appointment I need up until my due date though and I now have my antenatal card to carry around with me. It makes me feel all properly pg now

I've got my nuchal scan booked for 10 days time, so we'll hopefully get a better view of LO then.

kkas · 29/04/2010 11:45

whiteroses congrats on finding out you're having a boy! ozzie i started welling up too hearing about both of your sons!

hi to everyone else. hope i get to join you soon (although not too hopeful for this month). roll on cycle 11 (remember the prime number luck!)

WhiteRoses · 29/04/2010 12:07

Hi all,

Fudge, that's excellent news about the scan and the bleeding. Must've been lovely seeing your LO again. Not so good about the platelets but at least you're being well monitored. Hopefully they'll sort something out soon.

That's rotten about the placenta and you not getting to feel movement for another while... How come you all know about your placentas though? No one's told me anything, and they've left it blank on all three scan reports...

Chance - I hope all went well with your MIL yesterday..? Brilliant news about hearing the heartbeat and well done for telling the midwife where to find it! Also very good news about the not fainting!

Pidgin - hurrah! Bet you're loving finally having it all out in the open! Glad that your scan went so well.

Desperate - I know the feeling - daunting having so many pages to catch up on, isn't it?! I keep on doing it! Glad to hear you're doing well though.

Hermya - gosh, you're orgnaised! I haven't really thought about how my maternity leave will work out yet, let alone booked it!

Isn't it funny how a smiley person can lift your mood so much?

Before our scan, DH and I had agreed a first and middle name for a girl, and a middle name for a boy, but were split on the boy's first name. His favourite is my second favourite and vice versa, but we just couldn't agree. After the scan (), I became very emotional about the fact that I still didn't know my baby's name. DH then said he was happy with my choice. My choice is the male version of my gran's name, and I was really very close to her so REALLY want that name. Thinking of Gran was probably part of the reason for the emotion too, to be fair... But anyway, DH said to go with my choice; he loves the name anyway. But I feel guilty that I cried like a baby to get what I wanted (I didn't mean to!), so I'm kind of holding off on saying we have decided until I know for sure that DH really doesn't have any reservations... Does that make sense or am I just mad?! Perhaps best not to answer! Lol!

Ozzie - that's an even number of boys and girls on this thread now! I counted yesterday and thought there were still more girls, but for some reason you don't have "boy" beside your name (was that intentional?) so I missed you out.

Was it Desperate who had all the boy/girl hunches? If so, I meant to say yesterday, she got mine right!

Bunny - bet you're really looking forward to your next scan now?! There's nothing like seeing your LO wriggling about on the screen, is there?! Sooo amazing! Mind you, what must it be like seeing them in the flesh?! How lucky are all of us?!

I wonder too if Trying has any news for us! That Fulham's terrible, not having been on for weeks! Anyone'd think she prefers spending time with Lily to us! Lol! Really hope she manages to tear herself away and update us soon.

Well, I went to the physio yesterday and seemingly two seperate things are causing my bum pain. One is fairly simple - a tight coccygeus muscle on the front right hand side of my pelvis. The other is a bit worse - sacroiliac dysfunction. That means that a joint on the left hand side of my pelvis isn't working right and therefore my whole pelvis is twisted down and to the left. I've been given exercises to do, and tips on how to sit, etc., so hopefully it'll straighten out a good bit now and the pain will subside. But there we go! Trust me!

Hi Kkas - sorry, that was a cross post! It's nice to see you here. I still read the Conception thread but it's so busy and so full of new faces that I sometimes struggle to keep up with the "old crowd". My fingers are crossed for you this month - remember, the one month I was SURE I wasn't pregnant was the very month I was! Good luck! (When are you testing?)

Oh, I'm so excited about your boy WhiteRoses!! Congratulations! Your happiness just jumps out of the page I think you are right to hang on until you know that DH really means it about the name - it would be awful if he felt pushed into it, its such an important thing. But how lovely it would be to name the baby after your gran, I bet your parents would be over the moon.

I think it was Fulham who had all the boy/girl hunches - she said I would be having a girl, eek!

KKas - we all miss you! I hope you are over here with us soon, on a permanent basis!

Congrats on your wiggly baby Bunny! Do you get an antenatal card in Oz then? We get a bloody great folder we have to lug about with us for the rest of the pregnancy. Its massive!

Well done on being able to go back to work Hermya - I know how much I struggle with it most days, and thats without preg anxiety. I'm just counting down the weeks now until I can get out of here!

Oooh lots going on here in the past few days!

Lucky - I?m afraid I?m not much good on advice for not drinking, my poor excuses led to my friends telling me they?d guessed after I eventually told them. I was very emotional telling family as well, I could hardly get the words out as I was about to cry and they were all looking at me scared thinking something was really wrong! Was a lovely moment though.

Roses - Congratulations on you son! It?s lovely feeling the movement now, isn?t it? I?ve found the best maternity things are online, but it is a bit of a hassle having to order them and send them back if they?re no good. I did get some nice jeans from Next as well.
Little H has his/her nickname from DP as his surname begins with H and he is quite tall so is known by a few people as Big H so one of my friends started calling the bump Little H and it seems to have stuck!

Hermya - glad to hear your return to work went well, and now you can focus on that maternity leave date

Fudge - great news on your scan! I hope they can sort your platelets issue out soon. When I spoke to the midwife about my low lying anterior placenta she was surprised I hadn?t had any bleeding ? so maybe yours is low lying too and that is contributing to the problem. I started feeling movement at about 18 weeks but I mostly feel it very low down.

Chance - glad to hear to you got to hear the heartbeat, it?s so reassuring isn?t it

Bunny and Pidgin - Congratulations on your scans!

Now I'm off to walk home in the rain!
