I too am eating like a student - the shame of it!

We deliberately planned a quiet Christmas, just me, dh, dd and the dog, so that no one would be around to wonder why I wasn't drinking. I did have half a glass of wine after dd had gone to bed in the evening, it tasted so good.

We went to friends house on Boxing Day for a barbecue and general piss-up but I used the "I'm driving" excuse. The host said to me "Oh we'll have to come to yours next time, then you can get pissed too!" I just smiled and nodded.

Scan tomorrow, bit nervous, just because I'm 38 and I know the risks go up and up pretty quickly at this age.

TishTosh21 · 27/12/2009 21:26

wicked we are spending new years eve with friends who know I'm preg so it will be fine

I got an iPod touch from my DB which I thought was a very generous thing to do so am trying to get to grips with it!

Where are people spending new years eve then?

HowTheGibbonStoleChristmas · 27/12/2009 22:19

Popped on to say hello to all!

Still getting the nausea in the evenings but apart from that been a fab few days, very relaxing having DH home, means I can take a delicious nap when I feel like it [bliss]

I am offically showing now. My family only saw me last week and their faces were a picture when they saw my belly on Christmas day! My DD got moved forward a day to the 5th July but as it's only a days difference so I shall leave the list as it is

Hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas so far

stac14 · 27/12/2009 23:47

poor you wwsw bet your glad shes gone so you can go back to relaxing. I am lucky mil is fab but sil used to be quite a handful, we fell out a couple of years back luckily its all sorted now

gibbons how many weeks are you? I am 11 and was hoping the nausea would be away over the next couple of weeks, waiting for the burst of energy

I'm still dont seem to be showing but on xmas day I thought I had woke up with a bump but it was trapped wind lol. Just found out dp's friend and his partner are having a baby, she is only 6 weeks but had a mc before so being really cautious about who she tells, wee soul looked knackered which is probs more to do wth worrying.

Anyone made plans for new year? tish I am doing the same as you I think or just being with family so I can bugger off to bed lol. So looking forward to the next couple of days vegging out, watching crap on tv and relaxing.

Hope everyone is well xxxx

WickedWitchSouthWest · 27/12/2009 23:55

tish good plan we're doing the same, either will stay at home and have my parents round or go round to theirs, added bonus there being that dd will sleep over

My bump is quite impressive for 13+4, quite high and well, perky, I think! Seriously running out of clothes. I'll have to get out my old maternity stuff from dd when I was heavily pg in the winter so it's a bit unexpected to need it this time round. I dread to think what size I'll be in the summer...!

gibbon hope the nausea improves. Mine is gone, I'm just exhausted but that's possibly to do with xmas rather than anything else.

whatshesaid good luck with the scan tomorrow! Hope all goes well

WickedWitchSouthWest · 27/12/2009 23:59

oh stac I now have a mil free week and it's going to be blissful! Dh wants us to go up to Liverpool and visit them at some point but it's a bloody nightmare since they insist that me and dh sleep in single beds. Yes, we've been together 10 years, married 7, one child and one on the way but apparently we are not to be trusted. Unfortunately dd doesn't sleep well there (the outlaws snore like chainsaws and wake her) and she prefers to sleep in with us, obviously impossible in a single bed. Basically we take it in turns to sleep on the floor. Not fun! I shall be putting that trip off for as long as possible!!

WhatSheSaid · 28/12/2009 00:07

Hilarious about having to sleep in single beds! Is she worried about you getting pregnant? Bit late for that!

stac14 · 28/12/2009 00:16

omg wwsw like wss said thats a bit like shutting the gate after the horse has bolted, dont blame you for puting that trip off lol. Defo not fair on dd especially if she can't settle. What age is dd? X

WickedWitchSouthWest · 28/12/2009 01:05

I know, I would laugh if it wasn't so bloody awful! One trip (before we were married to be fair) we stayed in a hotel but that's not an option now as it "would upset her". HA! What about the lack of sleep upsetting us?!
DD is 3.9. Fussy little beggar

WinterMadness · 28/12/2009 07:18

Gosh WSWW that's awful! Couldn't you make if a compromise with her/your dh that you'll visit if you can stay in a hotel?

We've just done that - visited Scotland to see fil and booked into a hotel which would take the dogs. The dogs were great to be fair to them, it was ds that was a nightmare, lol. He goes to bed at 7 here but he wouldn't sleep till after 9.30, I shared a bed with him as there were 2 in the room. We had the one next to the wall so he couldn't fall out. Even though it was a double I got kicked and smacked to bits. Not to mention that he woke almost every hour crying I was sooooo tired last night when we got home!

Glad everone had a lovely Christmas. Mine was anything but relaxing but I loved it nonetheless. DH asked if I'll cook again next year and at first I said no as I'll have an almost 6 month baby...but on reflection I got more help with ds on Christmas Day with everyone round than I ever have before so I probably will!!! Despite hubby being so hungover he could barely function before 11am but the rest of the family were fighting for cuddles from ds!

NYE for me will be like any other night. Night in front of the box with my DH, and DS tucked up in bed. Suits me

violetbubbles · 28/12/2009 08:08

Just catching up on all your news. Glad to hear everyone had a fabby Xmas (excluding some of your annoying MILs ). I had a great Xmas and Boxing Day. Struggled to eat much though because my nausea refuses to go away and was totally knackered yesterday after two days with family. Told my parents and DH's parents on Xmas Day - they were all delighted and it was nice to be able to make them so happy.

DH got me a fetal heart monitor for Xmas (totally unexpected) so we managed to hear the baby's heartbeat on Xmas morning which was a lovely present! I'm now 13 weeks + 2 days - MW told me at my scan that I was two days further on than I thought so my due date has changed by a couple of days too.

We haven't decided for definite what we'll be doing on New Year's Eve yet. Some friends are going to a local pub for the bells but I'm really not sure if I'll be able to make it. I'm rubbish in the evenings at the moment!

I'm not sure if I'm showing at the moment or if it's just trapped wind. Probably the latter... .
xx

WinterMadness · 28/12/2009 08:22

You're due the same day as me then Violet

HowTheGibbonStoleChristmas · 28/12/2009 08:25

I'm 13 weeks now stac with DD I had nausea till around 18 weeks but unless time had blurred the memory it feels worse this time. As long as I can see a light at the end of the tunnel I'll be ok, it's the thought of having it all the way through that worries me. I am thinking positive, it will go soon, it will go soon, it will go soon.

WWSW Single beds! doesn't your DH feel able to say anything to his parents? Your MIL sounds like a loon, poor you.

stac14 · 28/12/2009 12:10

Thats a lovely gift violet i would be obsessed with checking it lol. Hope they put my date forward on the 6th when I go for my booking in. How have you found the Southern General? The Princess Royal is mobbed because they are taking on patients from the queen mother, madness closing down maternity hospitals
wwsw i take it dp knows how you feel? Probs just as bad being in a hotel maybe dd just doesnt like being out of her routine. Ds is like that and even at ten he's funny who he stays with or were we stay lol
gibbons my aunt had hypermesis for her full pregnancy, she said there were no drugs to help so she lost 3 stone, for me its more nausea, puts me right off eating lol hope we get rid of it soon.
Anyone asked the sex of baby at the 12week scan? Or do they not tell you? xXX

viksam · 28/12/2009 12:36

Hi Guys, havent been on for ages coz i have felt really negative and didnt want to spread the gloom. Glad u'all had a good xmas. I did to, but just cannot shake this anxiety. I have my booking appointement tomorrow and hoping they book my 12 week scan ASAP. I will be 12 weeks on the 31st. How have you guys delt with anxiety, i really want to start to enjoy this but dont feel able. I have now convinced myself that there is nothing in there even though I have had a scan at 7+5 and saw a heart beat. Im probably just being majorly paranoid but im finding it really difficult, especially as I dont really have any symptoms.
Im sorry guys I sound really selfish going on about me.
whatshesaid How did ur scan go? Im 35 so share ur feelings re age, hope everything went well.

violetbubbles · 28/12/2009 17:40

We can be labour buddies WinterMadness

stac14 - my mw and antenatal appointments are all at the New Victoria, which is just lovely!! Sorry to hear it's so busy at The Royal. I'll be at the Southern for my 20 week scan and the big day!

violetbubbles · 28/12/2009 17:41

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this...a sharp pain in the lower right hand side of the abdomen. I'm experiencing it once every 4-6 hours. The pain doesn't linger but it's enough to make me a little bit anxious...any insight would be very much appreciated! xx

stac14 · 28/12/2009 18:07

For me it would be the maternity centre in Rutherglen violet but as i had an early appointment they sent me to the royal, after my 12 wk scan i hope to return there. It could just be stretching pains, i have had loads of pains but mw said its nothin to worry about. If its really sore then call nhs24, if nothing else they can give you some reassurance.

viksam nice to see you back hun, think you are in the same position as me in the sense that you had help ttc? Or anyone who is pregnant. Due to this it is perfectly normal to be anxious as its a long awaited baby and its hard being pregnant regardless to how it came about. I dont think any of us feel all sweetness and light just now. Have you spoke to your doc about how your feeling? I have spoke to mine as i have been anxious too. Hope you feel better soon, when you due your 12week scan? XxX

TishTosh21 · 28/12/2009 18:23

hello everyone, went to london with my dad today to visit my grandma which was nice.

havent felt v well today though, got a sore throat and felt a bit under the weather hope it clears up by NYE.

viksam i feel the same as you, i havent got any symptoms and im not showing so im convinced theres nothing in there. Apart from pos tests and no period for 3 months i wouldnt believe i was even preg! Ive got my scan on 5th Jan and i keep thinking im going to go there and they'll say sorry your not actually preg, id be so !

violet It is very normal to get pulling/stretching pains so try not to worry too much. If it gets really painful or more regular maybe a call to your midwife tomorrow? I remember with DD I got this loads and used to panic, this time I think having already have been stretched to buggery am not noticing as much

TSC such a shame you won't get a 12 week scan, I am sure everything is fine
I was so stressed before my scan and in a bit of a state, I think it's normal to worry and fret. Just think of it as justice after having awful sickness with your first two!

Still feeling rough as today, slept 3 hrs earlier and not looking forward to DH going back to work tomorrow, kinda got used to being able to relax more with him here

Glad to hear people have had nice Christmases despite nightmare MILs - mine is actually lovely, lucky me!

The cold is easing off now - have beengrateful I've been able to take paracetamol though I've kept them to a minimum.

I also am convinced they will tell me at the scan that I've made it all up, or that the baby died weeks ago, or something horrible is wrong with it. I know all the statistics are in my favour but I think it's only natural to worry! Only about 38 hours more to wait, which doesn't sound too long (it's on Wednesday morning).

WhatSheSaid · 28/12/2009 22:54

Had my scan a couple of hours ago, all looking good! Seems a lot more real now I've seen him/her waving arms and legs around on the screen. Nuchal fold measurement fine - I was really quite worried beforehand, which I wasn't at all when pg with dd - was 35 when pg with her and 38 now. Got a DVD of scan which I put on when I got home only for dd to shout "Noooooo! Nooooooo! Poooooooh!" (she's really into Winnie the Pooh at the moment).

Feeling relieved and have now phoned/emailed/texted family and friends to tell them.
