Gosh, we've gabbed our way to 1000 already!

I too am eating like a student - the shame of it!

OP posts:

mousemole · 25/11/2009 19:27

Violet, yep - bra feeling really tight round my ribcage and norks spilling out. Not a good look. Need to dig out the boulderholders maternity bras. I cant face maternity clothes yet so my tracky bums have become my new best friends

TishTosh21 · 25/11/2009 19:38

I couldnt believe it when it said it wasnt accepting new posts. I had a momentary panicked thought that the July thread would be no more, then used my common sense that someone would have started a new one.

Im feeling very emotional right now and ive got a sore throat all down the right side

DAY 4 without ciggies and im not using any type of nicotine replacement. Do i rock or what!?

mousemole · 25/11/2009 19:40

well done TishTosh. Maybe you sore throat is something to do with giving up the ciggies ?
I too am v.v emotional and oh so bloomin irritable. Gotta love these hormones.

WhatSheSaid · 25/11/2009 19:44

Just posting so it's on my "Threads I'm On"

Wow, I can't believe the difference after not taking iron tablets. Took them Mon and Tue afternoons - Tue and Wed felt appalling. Could barely sit up - nauseous, dizzy, tired, jsut generally out of it. Wed afternoon - didn't take them - today (Thurs morning) feel almost normal, soooooo much better. Could be coincidence I suppose.

Gracie - can't check with MW about the tablets - don't have one! Most people here have independent midwife (not private - all free on public health system) who has a clinic in the community and sees you all the way through the pg, then is with you for the birth, then does all the post-natal visits for 6 weeks. I can't have that as am "high-risk" (blood pressure) so have been referred to hospital where I will be under care of hospital mws and specialists. Am waiting to hear from hospital for first appt.

Interesting that quite a lot of you seem to be going for early private scans, is that getting more common in the UK now? Just thinking back to my mumsnet antenatal group for dd (2007), I don't remember anyone going for one. Is it because some places don't offer 12 wk scans on the NHS?

I booked my 12 wk scan yesterday for the 29th Dec, first day they are open again after Christmas.

TishTosh21 · 25/11/2009 20:03

I dont even have a midwife yet, went to docs on mon eve and left my details with them for a midwife to contact me so I have no idea when my scan will be.

mousemole i came to that conclusion earlier about not smoking and the sore throat. Even though its not very pleasant its still nice to know that not smoking is doing something other than make me irritable. Its making my throat hurt to then heal it IYSWIM!

Gracie123 · 25/11/2009 20:22

Whatshesaid - That sucks about not having a midwife. I suppose you could ask your GP to prescribe the other kind for you? In all honesty both made me feel so horrendous I was hospitalised for malnourishment 3 times during DS pregnancy (couldn't eat, even vomiting up water) but SpaTone did the trick. Still wouldn't like to advise you to stop taking them without asking someone a bit more qualified than me IYSWIM.

Mouse - Yes, I'm so flipping annoyed as I spent a whopping £180 on new underwear just over a month ago (belated anniversary pressie from DH) and now I can hardly squeeze my bangers in! Plus of course they are all gloriously underwired and I shall have to go back to rubbish cotton bras that look like they were made designed for a 12 year old but re-sized for a pornstar.

TishTosh - my dad said he had a really sore throat for about 6 weeks when he quit smoking but it does get better. Your doing a great job for yourself and LO, stick with it!!

skihorse glad it's not just me eating like a student then. Waffles are the best, but generally all carbs are sooooo gooooood right now. Mostly I'm making toasted cheese sandwiches with tomato puree in them. Haven't done it since I was pregnant with DS but am enjoying oh-so-much again.

On the subject of eating like a student (please try not to vom if this doesn't appeal to you) did anyone else used to make cadbury's creme egg toasties? It's one of the reasons I married DH (he introduced me) but now I can't seem to lay my hands on any creme eggs. Anyone know if you can still get them anywhere or is it just an easter thing?

GibbonInARibbon · 25/11/2009 20:38

Well I just polished off 4 slices of peanut butter on toast (hurrah for peanuts being ok when pregnant now!)

That was my supper I vote we all just eat what we fancy guilt free for the next few weeks to get us through this yucky time

I did not have a private scan with DD but this time I feel more worried for some reason so hoping it will allay some fears [hopeful]

Gracie123 · 25/11/2009 21:19

If you are having a private scan, can you just book as many as you like?

Chulita · 25/11/2009 21:53

gracie - if you have a Cadbury's outlet shop nearby they sell creme eggs all year round at ridiculous prices. There was one really near us in Gloucester but sadly I don't think the whole of Dorset has a Cadbury's shop...I need to move back!

ApuskiDusky · 25/11/2009 22:07

God, there's no way I could face creme eggs at the moment, and normally I'm obsessed in the run-up to Easter. I could really fancy toasted cheese sandwiches though, or even cheesy bean toasties (used to always burn my mouth though as they were always ridiculously hot). Do you think it's worth getting a toastie machine just for the next four weeks?!

Hey Gibbon, thanks for your concern, and hope you're OK. At the risk of jinxing things, it is now 8 hours since I took my first MS tablet - and I have just finished my first plate of food (chicken tomato pasta) in ages. So far so good..... now I just have to see how the morning is (and I've run out of malted milk biscuits, so I'm screwed if I don't feel better as that is the only thing that helps me in the mornings).

Given that I am not really getting MS to speak of other than the odd bit of nausea, am I still allowed to eat whatever I want?

GibbonInARibbon · 25/11/2009 22:53

of course carrots!

Just got DD to sleep she is that poorly, she is usually out for the count at 7.

I am sooooo tired now and off to crawl ino bed.

givecarrotsachance · 25/11/2009 23:03

gibbon been suffering the same thing myself for a week. LC has had some random thing going on.

Anyone got any good solutions for eczema? He's grown up wearing mostly organic cotton clothing or bamboo which is the only fabric he tolerates and since starting school the crappy artifical fabrics of his uniform seem to be doing bad things to him. Docs refuse to do allergy testing as they reckon he's just allergic to everything, like my dad, although I've had my local chinese doc do tests - waiting for results. Trying to avoid hydrocortisone but no option ATM. Getting a bit desperate

WhatSheSaid · 26/11/2009 05:17

Just has some pinky-red spotting this afternoon so got in to see the GP.

He said it's good there's no cramps or pain and it's just a wait and see thing really. Said if it gets any heavier or I'm in any pain to go back and they'll send me for a scan.

Seems to have stopped now so I'm hoping it's just a random bit of bleeding-in-pregnancy and all will be OK.

Gracie123 · 26/11/2009 07:18

whatshesaid I hope so. I had quite a lot of that (every other month) throughout DS pregnancy. It was really scary, but everything was fine.

Carrots We use Oilatum junior bath oil which is amazing. DS has it in bath every day for about a week and his eczema is gone and we can stop using it for a few months. HV prescribes it too, so it's free if you ask. And you can definitely eat whatever you want.

Dusky here is some proper food porn for you.

Chulita I live in a tiny village in the middle of nowheresville cumbria (have to drive 2 hours to my nearest decent shopping mall)so I doubt we have a cadbury's outlet nearby

WhatSheSaid · 26/11/2009 08:03

Oh, my mum and dad retired to south Cumbria and my sis lives in Cumbria too

Ooooh, you should let DH take kids around winterwonderland and book yourself into the AqvaSana day spa. It's luuuurrvvvvely

givecarrotsachance · 26/11/2009 09:42

Thanks gracie. We have that but I only bathe LC about 3-4 times a week to try to reduce the amount of water getting onto his skin, and use oilatum with each bath (and we only use SLS-free shampoo for a once a week hair wash). Do you think I should bathe him every day with the oilatum? I'm wondering if the extra oils would help

mousemole · 26/11/2009 10:06

OMG - FRAZZLES I need some now.
Weighed this morning and 8lbs gained.
Actually, no, I am not that shocked. Have been eating like a heiffer.
Gracie that is a shame about the underwear. Maybe it will inspire you after the baby ?
off to get some horrid comfy bras now. YUK.

Gracie123 · 26/11/2009 10:14

Carrots Yes, I do think it helps to bathe everyday, with PLENTY of the oil. We only fill bath to about 15cm deep but I put 6-10 capfuls of oil in (loads more than recommended) and make sure DS stays in for at least 30 mins (topping up with hot water as necessary)

I find that taking some cups and funnels helps him sit in there a bit longer.

It is a bit of a pain, but only ever for a week at a time to clear it up, and if I don't it gets really bad (e.g. his skin cracks and bleeds - that hasn't happened in the last year, but I'm sure it's because I am religious about bath time)

I also do baby massage on him fairly regularly. Maybe just using lots of moisturiser would help (please don't use Johnsons or anything perfumed/coloured!) I use Mama Bee (bottom of page) on me and DS.

ApuskiDusky · 26/11/2009 10:17

LOL Gracie at the giant malted milk biscuit!

I'm feeling pretty good this morning - although it turns out taking one of my tablets before I go to bed maybe isn't the best idea, as I then took 4 hours to get to sleep, it didn't mention insomnia on the side effects leaflet! But so far so good, I am starting to feeling human again...

Gracie123 · 26/11/2009 11:27

What tablets are you taking? Cyclizine? They gave me horrible nightmares maybe it's a good thing that you didn't sleep?
