violetbubbles · 22/12/2009 15:21

I hear ya Spirael - where is this glow we've all been promised????

TishTosh21 · 22/12/2009 15:24

Thanks Becky and stac Ive literally just seen my midwife for the 2nd leg of booking in appointment (she came to me this time thank god) and i asked her about the pains and she said exactly the same thing. Arnt we all so knowledgable on MN!

I get pains when i cough or laugh but not every time its a really strange sensation!

Oh andBecky LOL at your DH being an expert, men do like to think they know EVERYTHING, even things they will never experience!

violetbubbles · 22/12/2009 17:02

Stac - you're right...got my NHS scan tomorrow. Says on the letter the appointment will last at least two hours so I'm guessing they'll do bloods and all that jazz. That is, of course, if my appointment doesn't get cancelled because of the snow .

stac14 · 22/12/2009 17:28

oh violet heres hoping it doesnt but its so bad here just now isnt it?

I know were your all coming from about the pains when sneezing, I tend to grab my belly before sneezing

lol about your dp becky mine keeps saying I can't be that tired but I so am

tish glad your midwife relaxed you hun, heres to our scans eh?

its snowing so bad here just now can't believe it, friend is going to new zealand on boxing day and is panicking in case she doesnt get to fly, at the moment my main concern is not making it to mil house for my dinner why is it I am always thinking of food just now

WickedWitchSouthWest · 22/12/2009 18:31

evening everyone!

Yes I'm showing, very definitely! Can't suck it in and it's quite firm so there you go - I'm growing a monster!

I also have to curl up to cough or sneeze which entertains dh no end grr.

good luck with the scan apuski and pleased yours went well too gracie!

spirael my skin is extra dry at the mo and I use cocoa butter all over and bio oil on boobs, bump and bum I did have acne with dd - I have no tips coz mine lasted until she was born, sorry I thought it was caused by coming straight off the pill so hormones were all screwy.

Just had a lovely facial so am ready to face christmas now got the shopping to do tonight and then the outlaws coming tomorrow. Might not be able to get online for a bit now so MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE, just in case

Emster30 · 22/12/2009 18:36

Ooh glad it's not just me with the funny sneezing pains! How weird! That's another thing no one tells you about...

I have been quite glowing actually, sorry. I think it's the lack of booze.

TishTosh21 · 22/12/2009 18:50

So if its a baby bump you cant suck it in? I can suck it in but its very uncomfy and i cant stay like it i have to breath it out again almost immediately.

Fingers crossed for the both of us stac Im sure they will both go very well.

WinterMadness · 22/12/2009 19:22

Evening all!

Had my private scan and blood testing today. So all in all I've now had 3 scans and have 7 scan pics! (sorry to those who haven't had one yet, it's a novelty for me too I certainly didn't get all this last time!) I couldn't get over how much clearer the private scan was in comparison to the hospital day unit...amazing! I heard the heartbeat for the first time - 165bpm - saw it's face really clearly and saw it's little spine and frogs legs...awwwwww

Funnily enough they agreed with my date of 3rd whereas hosp say 5th. I'm sticking to 3rd I reckon. It feels more 'right'. So that makes me 12+3 today

Sorry to those still suffering ms. Hopfully you'll be on the mend soon. Lucky you Emster re the glow. Never got one last time, don't expect to this time! I too suffered skin problems. Breakouts on my face but acne on my back. Hope that doesn't flare up again!

WWSW very jealous of your facial! All I have to look forward to tomorrow is Christmas food shopping, housework and fitting a million other things in!

TishTosh21 · 22/12/2009 20:14

ouch ouch ouch, just had a bath with DP, got out and started having horrid pains quite low down in womb/fanjo, i hate these unexplained pains, makes me worry so much, sitting down with cuppa (decaff!) now so hoping it eases off. Really itchy nipples too

CurlyCasper · 22/12/2009 21:08

DH thinks I'm showing at 10 weeks. I think I'm fat.

TishTosh21 · 22/12/2009 21:41

same here curly although do think womb is growing as ive got pains. Think i am showing a bit but majority of it is fat.

stac14 · 22/12/2009 21:57

hey winter fab news about scan, seems the private ones are far better than nhs, dp and I are thinking about getting a well being scan done at about 30 weeks, not got 12 week till 6th jan cant wait

tish I have had that pain too, was pretty sore.

DP says there are sometimes he thinks I am showing but to be honest I havent gained any weight. With DS I didnt show till I was about 5 months but back then I was a dainty size 8 not the size 16 I am now lol. My tummy seems to be harder though, think getting the bump makes the pregnancy seem more real doesnt it?

randomama · 23/12/2009 00:14

hello all. hope everyone's feeling good. i'm rough as toast with flu. jesus it's AWFUL. had swine flu a couple months ag but this is so much worse. funny how we get sp obsessed with SF but forget how awful just plain old flu is.
MS is pretty hardcore at mo too. yesterday i flled the kitchen sink with sick while simultaneously pissing all over the floor. as you might expect, i felt pretty damn sexy
re showing, i'm pretty sure i am. i'm massive and it's bump shaped. i'm pretty much 12 weeks so guess it's fine but tbh I've been like this for a couple weeks.
anyway there's my update! glad everyone's having lovely happy scans and stuff. merry solstice, happy xmas, joyous winterval etc to one and all x

Poor you randommama thesecondcoming I have had one small drink each of the last two weekends, and I will have a little glass of champagne on Christmas Day, and probably one tomorrow as well as we're having my family Christmas day tomorrow. I think one unit a week is fine (with a fraction more for Christmas). I will be steering clear of the pate and brie/stilton (Christmas without port and stilton! Sob!) but smoked salmon is fine under UK recommendations. Caffeine - I am trying to stick to one cup of regular tea and one of coffee per day but I normally seem to end up having another cup of tea at some point. Decaff tea is all well and good but I don't like to ask for it at someone's house or whatever.

kkfairybrains · 23/12/2009 13:16

hi all! soooooooooo excited!had my scan 2day!oh my god it was brilliant! it waved at us and all! kicking round for herself 2! oooooohhh it was brill! bf thought he'd only see a blob he really didnt think there'd be arms and legs and all so needless to say he was amazed! was so excited when we came home that we gave each other xmas pressies 2 as i go home 2moro!got some lovely bits!
tsc i have had a few drinks.if theres an occasion on im allowing myself 2 or 3 bottles but no shorts or anything and i dont see anything wrong with it.dont eat smoked salmon or pate so cant comment on that kind of thing but i do eat runny eggs! and if i fancy a tea or coffee il have one but i wouldnt drink more than 2 or 3 a day anyway!i think if ur just reasonable with urself and dont deprive urself u will be fine.there is nothing to suggest that small amounts of alcohol harms the baby anyway

stac14 · 23/12/2009 13:37

randomana Your right we do forget how bad normal flu is, I had it just when I found out I was pg its horrible, totally symapthise with you hun, hope your better soon. Lots of fluids and vitamin C

tsc I havent yet but think I will have a wee something at xmas and new year. I am a bore don't drink tea or coffee anyway or eat any cheese apart from cheddar or like smoke salmon, but the same as kkfairy I love a runny egg, when had ds was totally addicted to fried eggs on toast with brown sauce and it didnt do him any harm so it depends on how you feel about things yourself

kkfairy yay for scan hun, how many weeks are you? I cant wait to get mine 2 weeks today lol You looking forward to going home? were in Ireland are you from we have family in Cork, Derry and my cousin is based in Dublin.

Hows everyone else feeling today? I had to go food shopping and nearly threw up in the shop, MS is not being nice today, dont even feel like eating.

WinterMadness · 23/12/2009 14:38

Yay for scan KK they're great aren't they? I shiwed my friend my pics this morning and she couldn't believe it was only 12 weeks cos it was so clear!

tsc the guidance is no more than one or two units once or twice a week. Really missed booze last time but not fussed this time at all - will have a glass of champers Xmas day and new year's eve but more for tradition's sake than anything else!

As Stac says it depends on your viewpoint on eggs. My personal view is that British Lion eggs from salmonella vaccinated chickens are so unlikely to carry anything naughty that I'll take the risk if I fancy one. Everyone feels differently tho - I was so anal last time I wouldn't break any of the 'rules' but I'm more laid back this time.

Well it's now 2.35 and all I've acieved is food shopping (£180 in 3 days just on food. Scandalous-it'll all end up in the bin I just know it!) Mustust must make a start on sorting the house. Boring.

Albrecht · 23/12/2009 15:47

tsc I haven't had any alcohol so far just coz I've been really sick. For the last few weeks I've had to change the channel if anyone was eating / drinking on tv but about an hour ago saw someone having a margherita and my brain went "ooooh" so I might have the odd one later on if I really feel like it. Must work on that self control though - I'm usually the type that goes for a quick one after work and suddenly its closing time and I'm wasted!

I'm also avoiding pate, all those lovely cheeses and runny eggs (not a fan anyway!) Not a tea / coffee drinker but I'm having fizzy drinks everyday as the sugar helps with my sickness.

I will however be having some smoked salmon as I love it. I think its usually seen as fine but I know some people are concerned about mercury etc but its not as bad as shark etc.

What about peanuts? I have hayfever, eczema so should probably avoid but dh keeps buying these salt n vinegar peanuts and I can't resist...

ApuskiDusky · 23/12/2009 17:35

Hi all, my scan went fine today - they were running a bit behind so it was all quite hurried, but the scan lady was really nice. The first thing she said was 'there's only one!' and I said 'phew!'. I think DH enjoyed it, he was late back from work with DS's 12 week scan so missed it. Whereas I was a bit blase once I knew all was OK. But we've got the scan picture - baby made a bit of a jump and seemed to be trying to touch its face. And I'd forgotten how much blood they take, and that was without the Downs screening test!

DS has got conjunctivitis, so we're all imagining itchy eyes at the moment and trying to bribe him to let us wipe his eyes. Could be a challenge if he needs eye drops! So he might not be looking at his gorgeous best for the Xmas photos.

kittykat77 · 23/12/2009 17:51

evening everyone. We have our first scan tomorrow. Guess it will seem a bit more real once we can actually see something in there!

On the drinking front - I usually have a fair few drinks once things get going - one of the reasons why it's been hard for me to hide the pregnancy thing - as people are immediately suspicious if I say I'm not drinking Anyway I don't think the odd one or two hurts. I have been sticking to cider shandy, as I don't do beer, and obviously cider or wine (my usual drinks) are a bit too strong!

Anyway we are out tonight, but don't have great hopes for staying out late - DS had me up several times last night, and then got up at 5:30am. It's not even like I can drink lots of caffine to stay awake...! Still at least I may get to lay in tomorrow...

violetbubbles · 23/12/2009 18:29

Hi everyone
Had my NHS scan today. Our sonographer was lovely - really cheery and chatty. Baby was asleep this time so she kept trying to wake it up, which was funny to watch. Strong heartbeat again and big long skinny legs. I love it so much already and just keep looking at my scan pics to remind myself it's real!

I just noticed something strange though when I was comparing my scan photo from two days ago. It appears that the baby is now facing the opposite direction (head to the right rather than to the left) I'm confused - surely they don't move this much at 12 weeks...? Anyone else experienced this? DH says that perhaps one scan shows a mirror image....? . Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Great to hear that your scans went well today too ApuskiDusky and kkfairy .

stac14 · 23/12/2009 18:30

you have defo all put me in the mood for a small drink, dp was just asking if I could have a small diluted wine or something so think I may do that on boxing day as I will be 11 weeks then so not so anal about the whole drinking thing. Although just before I found out I was pregnant I was having a drink with the girls and spewed rings round myself so I may not be able to drink at all.

Scan sounds fab apuski It is so amazing what you can see now isnt it? conjuctivitus is rotten isnt it, so irritating.

kitty thats lovely getting your scan on xmas eve hun have you told many people? Is ds ill? Enjoy your night out

Seems like everyone is moving on from ms except me lol, dp had to do his own dinner as the fish was making me ill. Can't wait till next week then it will hopefully ease up xx sorry for moaning xxx

TishTosh21 · 23/12/2009 19:09

violet Ive read on loads of websites etc that the baby actually moves around loads at this stage but we dont feel it as its so small. So its prob very likely its moved since the scan before

Cant wait til my scan in the new year, i hope mines ok after everyone elses going ok. fingers crossed.
