Congrats to all the new arivees!

Am getting impatient now, despite only being a day overdue. Just wish I knew if this baby was going to put in an appearance before or after Christmas. Part of me keeps saying lets put a bet on a Christmas Day baby, which would prob guarantee NOT getting a Christmas Day baby - Hurrah! Am not worrying about the child having to share birthday and Christmas but more about missing/spoiling Christmas this year for DD.

Woke this morning (at 6am for the 3rd day running. Whats that about?) and found I had quite wet pants (sorry if TMI). Changed them but still wet patch appearing. Nothing since this morning so was this my waters going? Have no idea when they went last time with DD, possibly in the bath. Have had bad period type pains but nothing else.

Tis my birthday tomorrow and am celebrating with a mw appointment. She has offered me a sweep although am in 2 minds to have one or not. MW did suggest maybe not as it would make it more likely for me to go into labour Christmas Eve/Day.

Hope everyone still waiting is keeping calm and not snapping at all those texts/emails asking "have you not given birth yet?"

GoldenSnitch · 22/12/2009 21:15

We need the list updating so we can see who's left waiting...

I'd do it but I'm not sure I'm awake enough to manage it! Currently waiting for Catherine to wake up so I can feed her and we can all go to sleep for a bit.

Bump02 · 22/12/2009 22:32

Hi...I'm still waiting, am officially "over" now 40+1 Not too bad I know and I'm feeling really good, unlike a few weeks back, think anticipation has worn off now and being pregnant feels like part of everyday life now...strange feeling I know!!

Well off to bed soon and will see what tomorrow brings

LittleMonkeysMummysAXmasFairy · 23/12/2009 10:23

HI everyone

Biscuits - I know what you mean about the text messages (and I'm not due for another week yet!!)

MIL has been telling me everytime I see or speak to her that BUmp must arrive on the 23rd as it would have been her mum's 100th birthday and it MUST be a boy this time as she already has 3 granddaughter! No pressure then

Hope everyone's well and congratulations on all the new arrivals

sparklycheerymummy · 23/12/2009 12:08

Congrats all new arrivals..... My little chunk is doing well..... managing to bf which is a big surprise to me!! He was 10lb 11oz at birth, went down to 10lb 9.5oz at 5 days and is now back up to 10lb 13oz at 10 days old!! We have been discharged from community midwife and life is settling into a pattern dp has a bad cold so cant do anything to help apparently and his snoring is so bad he is getting a good sleep on the reclining chair downstairs where he cant here the ds crying!! (sod him..... i like my quiet night feeds anyway!!!!) When ds sleeps i do a few jobs then sit down.... dp just sits down all time!!!

Scorps.... i havent read your other thread but really really feel for you. We are all here if you need us.... bit emotional here at moment and this has really made me feel for you and stop being so selfish.

SO far so good with not getting PND but do feel super super emotional but i am sure i can tell the difference. Constantly worried that dd is suffering because she feels left out though i am trying so so hard not to.... she is 7 bless her. she dreamt last night that i died! I was heartbroken for her..... i hope this doesnt mean anything serious like she feels i have left her!!!

1petshortofazoo · 23/12/2009 14:11

I am so happy to see even more new arrivals! We sure are getting them out fast!
Well bf was going well until last night when my milk came in (ouch!) And my nipples have been incredibly painful today, I really want to carry on but it hurts that much that I dont think I can. He feeds for about 40mins every 2ish hours and I am really feeling it now. I really dont know what to do and I know I will regret it like I did with ds1.

I see i'm not the only one whos dp feels like he doesn't have to do anything to help out, like putting dirty washing in the basket and not on the floor!

I hope the rest lo's get delivered soon :-)

GoldenSnitch · 23/12/2009 14:22

Just when I thought we were safe!

Midwife came today to do Catherine's day 5 check (on day 6 but that's another story!) and weighed her at 6lbs 4ozs!!

She says she thinks that Catherine was probably weighed wrongly at birth (and that it wouldn't be the first time this week that she has queried a birth weight!) as if she had really gone from 7lbs to 6lbs 4ozs and lost more than 10% of her birth weight, she would look poorly and thin with a sunken fontanel and not be the bright, alert, pink, feeding, pooing, weeing baby that she is.

Luckily, because she's not worried and we saw the GP yesterday and he wasn't worried, we've avoided being sent back into hospital for blood tests - and probably a stay over - so Christmas is still on at home. They're going to weigh her again on Boxing Day (could have been Christmas day of they were concerned) to check that she is putting on weight like a normal healthy baby. I suppose then it'll be chalked down to an error and we'll never really know what she weighed at birth. Not that I mind as long as she's healthy.

Would explain why even the 'tiny baby' clothes were huge and the nappies seemed enormous...

So glad to hear that everyone's doing so well with feeding and avoiding PND. I seem to have managed to avoid the blues altogether so far which is great. In fact I seem to be on a high! I hate the way a history of depression always leaves you waiting for the drop though - wonder if that'll ever go? I hope so.

Good luck to everyone

Moosy · 23/12/2009 14:32

Don't give up 1 pet! I gave up with dd2 after 11 days as I was bleeding and sore but this time I've been VERY strict with her latch and have avoided too much pain. Take her off and start again if you're not comfortable, sometimes it took dd3 20 goes before she got it right which is a pita but not as bad as bleeding nips!

We've had problems with weight gain as I was ill and lost a huge amount of weight so struggled with feeding but she was weighed today and has put on 2oz in 2 days and is now only 2.5oz below her birth weight so it's going much better today. Now I just have to work out how to get her to settle between feeds!

x-posts 1pet! I spoke too soon! Sorry you're struggling.

Catherine has decided that she prefers 'Righty' in the past 24 hours and my nipple on that side is getting a bit battered while 'Lefty' gets engorged! Like Moosy, I'm just being really strict with the latch (while getting us both covered in milk!) and it's already feeling better. Stick with it. When I struggled with DS, I always said I would try for "just another 24 hours" then reassess if I could cope and before I knew it, he was 6 months old

BexJ78 · 23/12/2009 15:54

Just in terms of the latching discussion, how do you all make sure your LO's get a good mouthful of nipple? I am never sure if DD is opening her mouth quite wide enough? Is there a good way to encourage her to do this?
Hope you are all feeling well and that those oof you who are still waiting get some news ssoon! xxx

1petshortofazoo · 23/12/2009 16:11

Thanks ladies, due to see mw tomorrow so will definatly try and keep it up til I see her.
I dont know how much nipple is enough nipple sorry lol.

Just a quick question about nappies, is it normal for his poo to be dark green and quite watery? It doesn't smell or anything.

Moosy · 23/12/2009 16:24

1pet, poo should be dark green/black and tarry for the first few days then it should be yellow and sloppy (like korma) thereafter. IME green poo is a sign of indegestion/wind, but if it's watery too then it might be worth mentioning it to your MW/GP/HV/whoever.

Bex, she should be opening her mouth pretty much as wide as it will go and taking in as much boob as possible rather than just nipple. If you can see some areola outside her mouth then there should be more visible above her top lip than below her bottom lip iyswim? As she latches on, push her head right into you so she isn't just hanging off the end. If you're comfy and she's filling up/not getting too windy then you're probably doing it right

LaDiDaDi · 23/12/2009 16:26

Bex, I'm no expert but I'm trying really hard to make sure that ds's bottom lip is really rolled back iyswim, so that I can't see any areola below it. Kellymom website has good pics on it. I remember that dd used to try to pull in her bottom lip and this gave me really painful nipples. This time whilst the first few sucks are sore it's fine after that. Hoping that this means things are going better though I'm still stressed about how much he's getting!

Moosy · 23/12/2009 16:28

Bex, has your MW given you the leaflet about latching your baby on? The pictures are quite good - tummy to mummy and nose to nipple etc. If not, someone pointed me to these videos yesterday

GoldenSnitch · 23/12/2009 18:07

Seems I spoke too soon for myself too - this afternoon has turned into a complete nightmare

We've gone from her feeding well to fussing and not latching properly so I'm constantly relatching her and end up with us both covered in sticky milk because it's leaking everywhere while she's not on!!

Have just expressed both boobs to soften them and will try again when she wakes. Got 4 ozs out so I know there's plenty there. I think maybe my boobs were just too hard for her to get hold of. My nursing bras are a snug 34GG so she has a lot of boob to contend with even when not engorged!!

Definitely do the nose to nipple Bex, then when baby's mouth is open far enough to get nipple in you know that mouth is wide open.

GoldenSnitch · 23/12/2009 19:35

Expressing worked

She just fed beautifully now she can actually get a mouthful!!

Phew, I was getting a bit tearful about it all earlier.

Bump02 · 23/12/2009 21:37

Hi ladies Anyone still waiting for their bundles of joy? If so I feel your pain

I am 40+2 today. Saw midwife earlier and I am booked for a sweep next wednesday. That's if I decide to have it or bubba hasn't said Hi by then.

Well done all new mums too

Stigaloid · 23/12/2009 21:47

I am still waiting! 40 + 6 today. Had second sweep. Had sex, acupuncture, pineapple, raspberry tea and long walks and STILL pregnant. Seeing consultant tomorrow about induction date. MIL lost her first baby to stillbirth when made to go 40 + 14 so am pushing for an early induction on 40 + 10, which would be 27th.

Spent most afternoon lying in bed in tears feeling that Christmas feels ruined. Our son has missed out on any excitement as everything has been put on hold for the baby and now we live on tenderhooks that she doesn't arrive in the next couple of days.

lolianja · 23/12/2009 22:00

You're not alone Stigs. Am 39+1 with the twins today and the midwife attempted a sweep yesterday but couldn't doit. I'm so posterior she could barely reach my cervix and I'm not even remotely dilated.

I have now resolved to wave my white flag and when I next speak to the consultant will be giving in to the never-ending pressure that I agree to an induction. Have turned down several even since my section was cancelled (and that was fairly recently) but enough is enough I think.

Here's hoping things get started for us all soon! And Merry Christmas to all!

Bump02 · 23/12/2009 22:16

Oh sending a hug your way Stigs Hope you feel better about Christmas and everything tomorrow. I feel same as DS is excited and I just told DP I feel guilty because all I have done is talk about baby today and look miserable, so I have told myself to make fuss of him more and baby will have to wait seeing as she has made us wait this long!! And your MIL story is very sad but please don't think too much about it, that is her story...not yours! (said in nicest possible way and mean no offence to MIL)

And good luck lolianja hope bundle x 2 are with you soon and Merry Christmas!

Stigaloid · 24/12/2009 09:20

Aww thank ladies Still here, still pregnant. Off to Drs in a bit to get induction date but now hope the little lady stays put for 48 hours so we can enjoy a family christmas tomorrow. DS is so excited about Santa coming - he keeps saying 'santa brings presents and says Ho Ho Ho!' (DS is 2.5 so he s just beginning to understand Christmas)

Hugs to all still waiting and will update soon.

Mama2b5 · 24/12/2009 10:37

Ahhh just thought i would pop in and look for new arivals - and can see some still hanging in there!

For all who are really fed up, just remember it will be over soon just like christmas all that hype for one day!

Sending out best thoughts and wishes for all who want baby out now! place your bets whose next?????

before you know it it wil be push, push and baby cries all around!enjoy little miracles and Thanks for the journey!

Good"contraction, birthing" Luck to you all x

  • whilst you guys will be holding your LO remember those whose finish line is way further then few days or 5 weeks like me! xx
biscuitsmustbedunkedintea · 24/12/2009 11:57

OK woke this morning and was having "cramps" every 6 minutes. Not too painful and wouldn't have called them contractions like last time, but very regularly. Having had a shower they then all but disappeared. In the last hour and half have had more and they are getting more painful, although not regular.Have had a lot of gunky mucussy bloody discharge too, although nothing I would say is the plug.

My parents have just turned up and taken DD to the church crib service with them, and DH is finishing work in the next hour anyway so we'll see what happens. Have sent DD's overnight case with her too just in case. Fingers crossed that if it happens it happens now so can have DD at home tonight with us ready for tomorrow. Don't really want her to be opening her stocking with Grandparents.

Haven't sat down all morning but now have backache so will sit for a while and have a cup of tea (no raspberry leaf things in the house )

Merry Christmas everyone anyway, hope you all enjoy them
