forgot to say - yesway , you're welcome for the links! Glad they were helpful to someone and I wasn't just banging on pointlessly (as is often the case)

CurlyCasper · 18/11/2009 16:25

Great news fire and great about the bloods sevans!

Now, let's share out those boozy truffles...

WickedWitchSouthWest · 18/11/2009 16:35

yay firerise! Good news, I'm really pleased!

Sorry gibbon..I've induced emoticon overload again....but at least I gave you a giggle! Still feel a bit of a moose and I remember tut tutting at women buying stuff early when I was pg with dd! It was too much of a bargain to lose. That is my defence and I'll stick to it!

Re the foods, I'm a bad mother. I really see no point in giving up runny yolk eggs. Seriously, who knows of anyone contracting salmonella from a lion stamp egg since Edwina Curry's slip up in the 80's? Plus I ate a snickers bar the other day. I needed it. When pg with dd I didn't know about not eating smoked salmon cold and I went through shed loads of the stuff but look! We survived! Most of the guidelines are fair enough, but some of it's just codswallop. (But fully appreciate some of us may be more cautious than others )

Oo, a little rant!

WickedWitchSouthWest · 18/11/2009 16:39

oo I just read through the link iggypiggy and peanuts ARE allowed now as is smoked salmon. FFS. Is this some sort of government game to see how high they can make us jump?!

iggypiggy · 18/11/2009 16:40

yes - smoked salmon, cooked shellfish - peanuts - go crazy

lifeistooshort · 18/11/2009 17:31

firerise I am so chuffed for you [Grin] fingers crossed you will get more good news in 10 days

Norky tell you sister

Hello to everyone else. I am not very excited this time round, but perhaps it is because I already have the clothes, the prams, the bed, the whole nursery ....the only thing I really want is the BB. And I have been so busy at work havne't had a chance to think about it much. My jeans are already getting tights from the beginning of hte aftternoon. I twill be hard to hide

grumpypumpkin · 18/11/2009 17:37

Hi all
Nice one firerise
Well I had my pre booking with the midwife today and managed to swing an early scan by telling them how irregular my periods were. I am going the week after next, when I predict I will be 8.5 weeks. How exciting!!
Will have my booking appointment the same week, then a 12 week scan where they do the NT test.
Starting to feel real at last!!
I amused myself today by working out how I was going to take all my annual leave to fit with maternity leave and I am starting to feel that I will be leaving work in no time! . I am so ready for a year off!!
But not so ready to be a bit poorer...
Hope all going well for everyone else.

MissWooWoo · 18/11/2009 18:45

hi all

still no sypmtoms here other than feeling a bit tired on and off and disturbed sleep. Did have very bad runs though monday night/tuesday morning ... can this be a symptom? I did have a curry monday night but this usually doesn't affect me at all. Dp and his sister had the same to eat but no problems so can't be dodgy curryhouse. Wondering if I just picked up a bug or whether my body just didn't like all the spices (was quite hot) - totally went off curry last pregnancy so nothing to compare it with. Anyone else had anything similar?

Have booked in for a private scan next wednesday when I will be 6+6. Really paranoid about these lack of symptoms but of course hoping that all is well as it would be nice to start telling family/close friends before christmas.

Saw Dr monday morning and she said I should start thinking about the swine flu jab. Don't have a problem with it really but do have a problem having it before baby is 12 weeks - anyone else thinking of waiting til 2nd trimester?

WickedWitchSouthWest · 18/11/2009 18:55

evening all

Am worried dd is sickening for something again, she's gone to bed and fallen asleep already....we're off to center parcs next week so I hope not!

MissWooWoo, don't worry about lack of symptoms yet - with my dd I had nothing until I was 6wks, and this time it's got bad from 6+3.

Grumpy, glad it's feeling real now! I would have loved an early scan but then they wouldn't have done another til 20 weeks so I'm holding out til I'm 10wks. Re the SF jab, my area is only doing it for women in their second trimester so I've got until xmas to think about it. Seeing the midwife on the 7th so will ask more then.

Life, I've bought some maternity jeans! There's no way of cramming myself into any of my normal jeans now and I need a change from leggings Am now wondering what on earth to wear to our posh dinner out for our anniversary...have a Karen Millen dress I wore to a wedding 4 wks after dd was born and I guess I'm about the same weight now worth a try I think. It's beautiful green raw silk with bronze beads and really handy pleating across the stomach

grumpypumpkin · 18/11/2009 19:15

wicked lucky you having nice posh meal out! Dress sounds lovely. I too am in the "leggings and dress" uniform as although I have no bump as such, it is pretty uncomfortable to have trousers on and I am paranoid that everyone at work is looking at my belly! . Still got my usual muffin top though!

Suprised that I have lost a few pounds actually, not been feeling as peckish as normal but no nausea.

I am sure I shall pile it all on again, and plenty more, in due course!!

TishTosh21 · 18/11/2009 19:27

Hello everyone, hope everything is going well for you guys. I STILL havent been to the docs yet, i really really will try and go next week. My docs has moved to a new building across town and ive never been there before. Im 6 weeks today so if i go next week hopefully it wont be too late to get signed up to a midwife etc. I think im be 12 weeks on dec 30th so wont be telling any over xmas unless they just know, like family does sometimes, especially mothers.

Giving up smoking is not going well, i didnt have one at all on mon, had 2 last night and have had 2 today, i think that Allen Carr giving up smoking book is coming tomorrow so im really going to give it my all.

Words of encouragement always welcome!

Champagneforlunch · 18/11/2009 19:39

So glad it was good new firesrise, its so nice when you first see that little spot, I'll never forget the midwife teling me the first time we saw DD1 at about 7 weeks 'that's the start of someone there'. Its also amazing how quickly they change early on. I was a bit like you going back and forward for early scans with her as she was missing the first time and the hgc results were low, but the first scan she is a circle (the sac), second two weeks later a small jelly bean, the third two weeks later again a jelly bean with arms that wiggled, then the twelve week scan showed a baby.
I put on so much weight last year that I bought a whole ot of bigger new clothes that I was just begining to get too small for so think I might get longer before having to start wearing maternity clothes again, at least the last lot won't have gone out of fashion. I did buy a new dress for last night and spent more than I ever have on a single item of clothing and was terrified it wouldn't fit but it was fine (although boobs must have grown as a bit tight accross the there).
I'm dreading telling work I'm still not back from my last lot of maternity leave although though officially on holiday now not maternity leave. Don't know how my pay will be affected as I took a lot of time off sick last time but still on full pay, don't know how long they will go on paying me full pay before I actually have to do any work.

sleb1 · 18/11/2009 20:18

Miss Woo Woo - I spoke to my Dr . She advised it was ok after 7 weeks for flu jab. The area to teh spinal cord and therefore nervous system shuts off around 7 weeks. I've made an appointment for Sat am but I may still delay it.

I've woken up today with a really itch rash on my chest - don't usually suffer from skin problems. A few more bumps have come up tonight. Am wondering whether I should get it checked out or put it down to just one of those pregnant things.

I'm off to the IVF clinic tomorrow for my fisrt scan - a little excited, more anxious though - I still feel a bit of a fraud. I've definitely had more symptoms this week, but nothing overly dramatic.

Really pleased about your news Firese - keep thinking positive thoughts.

Good to know about alcoholic chocs - I've got a box in teh fridge that call me everytime I open the door!

darydork · 18/11/2009 22:05

tishtosh Your doing good, none at all on monday & most of tuesday is really good going so well done..

Ive read allen's book from front to back yest & today, its excellent have to say, hes doesnt agree with substitutes at all so this is my 1st full day without a patch & im struggling bigtime (this is day 8 without one) having read book is def helping me to deal with the withdrawal pangs, his approach is very different & really makes you think.. Think it will really help you

lazyemma · 19/11/2009 06:17

I went cold turkey when I gave up smoking a few years ago (well, I gave up my 20-a-day habit - still had the odd social one with a drink and not overly bothered by that) and it was intense but I think it's better in the long run - you get the physical cravings over and done with in a couple of days.

I found the hardest thing was thinking "I'll never have another cigarette again" - it was a frightening thought! So I just took each day at a time and tried not to think about the future until it'd been so long since I'd had a fag that it didn't scare me that I wouldn't have another one - and I didn't for over two years.

Wonderstuff · 19/11/2009 07:55

MissWooWoo I seem to get frequent ..urm.. loose bowels in first trimester, and was getting frequent constipation from about week 20 last time, I think hormones do funny things to your bowels.

Well I only work Mon-Wed, so off today, DH is in bed with a temperature - so hope that I don't catch whatever it is bless him he still got up with dd so I could have a little lie-in.

I really just don't feel like doing anything at the moment, my house is such a tip, don't think it has got this bad since last time I was pg. We are going to have a tidy the house day just as soon as I stop feeling sick.

Vomited for the first time last night

Oh and I told my mum. She was cool, 'are you happy? I'm happy' and I think she got the need to keep it quiet until the new year, I feel better now someone at work knows.

skihorse · 19/11/2009 07:58

I was up at 3am again for a bowl of cereal - I woke up for a pee but quickly realised I was not going to make it to breakfast time. I'm turning in to my dog, all I do is eat & sleep and go for a little walk in the evenings.

Emster30 · 19/11/2009 08:17

I accidentally told my assistant at work yesterday - I could see she was unhappy so took her out for a cuppa and she cried all over me while telling me her personal problems (she's having a dreadful time of it). This turned into a proper heart to heart and my news ended up slipping out - oops! Oh well, I know I can trust her to keep it quiet and I'd probably have to tell her if anythign went wrong. I'd probably better tell my boss though.

Off to docs now! Not expecting much from this appointment.

CurlyCasper · 19/11/2009 08:49

ski thankfully I am used to waking up ravenous (sometimes from 1am) but had trained myself to go back to sleep and eat at 6am (part of the reason I am always up early, work or not). However, I do think I must add the little walk in the evening...

An old colleague popped into my work yesterday (she left in the summer) took one look at me and guessed I was PG. Bizarre! I don't see her normally, and could always confide in her in the past, so am fine with her knowing.

DH texted last night - and signed off with "I love all three of you" (me, dog, and baby). Almost made me cry - sap!

TishTosh21 · 19/11/2009 08:52

Morning everyone, the book came yesterday but i was at work so its gone to the sorting office so will go and get that this morning.
I've just booked a docs appointment for monday afternoon, it will be ,my first one and ill be 6+5 by then.
Can someone tell what they will do/ask at this appointment cos i dont really know what im going there for i just know i need to go!

skihorse · 19/11/2009 09:06

Curly My oh is being very sweet too right now. Apparently I've been draping myself over him at night and he says it's like being stuch at the epicentre of the sun - he just lies there sweating and cooking but says he doesn't want to move me or wake me up because I'm pregnant! I can see that being a good excuse to get out of just about everything...

CurlyCasper · 19/11/2009 09:08

sounds good ski. we've not got beyond offers of cups of tea here, tbh. Got best friends coming to stay this weekend. DH does not want to tell them cause his family won't all know till xmas. Let's see if he can keep his mouth shut after a few pints...

NorkyButNice · 19/11/2009 09:33

My booking in appt isn't till I'm 9 weeks so you'll all have to let me know what happens. Even though it's DC2 for us, I feel like I don't know what's going on as DS was born in the US where everything is different (I had my first routine scan at 6 weeks there!).

DH is being very good to me too - dropping DS off at nursery for me so that I can have a slightly longer lie-in!

Hope everyone has a good day

MissWooWoo · 19/11/2009 10:48

morning all

it's so great to have a place to share things esp at this stage when most of us are keeping shtum.

tishtosh Allen Carr is the way forward ... I gave up over 7 years ago after smoking like a chimney for 15 years, read the book 3 times in a row - I wanted to give up and the book really gets to the crux of why you're a smoker and once you understand that you're half way there. You can do it.

sleb1 thanks so much for that info, most helpful thing I've read on this subject. That's the kind of thing we pregnant ladies need to know!

wonderstuff ah yes constipation I had that at the end of my last pregnancy - ate a whole bag of prunes one afternoon to alleviate that problem. Definately steering away from the curry from now on.

skilhorse I was also up at 3am eating a cheese and tomato sandwich. I half thought about mumnetting to see if anyone else was up!!!

Talked to my dp last night about the scan I've booked for next week when I will be 6+6, am now thinking that I might bump it on a week as I will worry if there is no heartbeat. Last early scan was at 7+4 with heartbeat. Anyone had their scan earlier than 6+6 and seen heartbeat?

skihorse · 19/11/2009 11:03

MissWooWoo On another forum I use there's a lady said she got a hb at 6+2. Sadly I can't do 3am mn because I've just moved house and my internet company seem to be totally unable to deal with this - I say "just" - I told them a month ago. So I've been watching "That 70's show" which always seems to be on when I get up!
