MissMarjoribanks · 26/11/2009 14:13

iate - I had a midwife appointment this morning and I'm measuring 2 weeks ahead (34 weeks at 32). She said that it could be because the baby is lying transverse though, so wants me to come back in 2 weeks for another measure before they refer me for a growth scan as he may well have shifted position. I was measuring under for my dates at my last two appointments (wasn't measured before then) so have ballooned since.

I told her I had put on 3lb in a week and she told me not to eat so much . Not quite as easy as it sounds, as I get seriously faint if I don't eat all the time regularly. I've put on 1 1/2 stone in total, so not an overly vast amount, I don't think.

My bump also goes completely still if DH or anyone else touches it. DH puts his ear to it and asks Junior why he won't communicate!

sockmonkey · 26/11/2009 16:08

::passes mrsjammi a cup of tea and some biscuits::
Hope you manage to rest up

Is anyone else beginning to think all this measuring is doing nothing to reassure us and everything to make us paranoid? I am currently absolutely petrified of having a 10lb plus baby. This is the first time they have done the fundal measurement thing, and it's worrying me more than not knowing/guessing how big the baby will be. (although if it is true it will mean that bump is all baby, and not custard cream biscuit)

somewhathorrified · 26/11/2009 16:28

Sockmonkey I completely agree about the measuring, I swear most of the stuff they seem to come out with is designed to make it sound like they know what they're talking about, when it's all guesswork, freaking mum out seems to be just a side effect.

My bub seems to be hiccuping loads atm too, at least twice a day for a good 5-10 mins at a time. Isn't it supposed to be them strengthening their lungs for breathing? He did used to stop wiggling for DH so if he was bugging me and get DH to put his hand on my belly, however he seems to have got wise to this tactic and now goes for it just as much for DH as he does for me.

Went to the dentist earlier so now playing the fun game of A) trying to get the coffee in the mouth and B) keeping it there!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 26/11/2009 16:50

Hello all - LOL at the measuring, positions etc. Agree that it does nothing to reassure, particularly for first time mums!

Well I had my 34wk mw appt this afternoon and am pleased to say measuring 34wks exactly! However, baby has moved from transverse to breech so I was given the lecture on what to do should I go into labour or get a trickle/waters break .... which is quite different from that previously given and a bit of a drama really - basically get on all fours to stop cord/placenta/legs trying to come out first (!) phone delivery unit followed by an ambulance as they will be able to transfer me to hospital, still on all fours!!!!!

Well I never. Quite baffled and having a little chuckle about it really. I can understand phoning the delivery unit because they will need to get my c/s sorted on a fairly immediate basis - but an ambulance? The hospital is a 5 min drive up the road and I could stop one going to an RTA or heart attack or something. I think I'll just take my chances on DH transporting me. I'm sure the ambulance service would appreciate that too. There's enough room in my car for me to be in the back on all fours anyway

Anyway, sure thats not going to happen as was nearly 2 weeks late with previous 2 pgs and this one being delivered early by c/s

Oh and finally, yes, I have the same in that my DH has not yet ONCE been able to feel the baby move. My 2 kids have though

mistletoekisses · 26/11/2009 18:09

Hello everyone!

Tons to catch up on! I had my 32 week appt yesterday and my LO is doing great. DS at this point started to measure a little on the small side; but the scan showed yesterday that this bub is growing wonderfully. So was really relieved! Also provisionally booked my csection date for Jan 8th, so 6 weeks tomorrow (unless this bub has plans to come earlier).
I simply cannot believe that in 6 weeks, my bub will be with me!

DH has taken a few days off around this weekend, so we plan to spend 4 lovely days pottering doing family time. Taking DS to the Winterwonderland in Hyde Park tomorrow, have never been before, but hopefully he'll enjoy seeing Santa and the Circus! No mulled wine for me from the German Christmas market though!

Re. the weight gain, have no clue what I weigh. Will eventually start running and hopefully will all come off the way it did last time. Here's hoping!

Lottie - do pop on and let us know how you and your LO's are doing.

shinybaubles · 27/11/2009 07:55

sockmonkey they don't do fundal measuring here everything is done by scan, but don't worry they were prediciting ds would be 10 lbs plus and he was just 8, when I had him.

somewhathorrified I didn't know that about the hiccups my baby has been doing it too.

ctofn I also got that lecture when pregnant with ds as he was transverse, like this one .

We had a lucky escape last night and almost burnt the house down, ds's alarm went off at the wrong time and made us realise that the wood we had stupidly stacked down the side of the wood burner had ignited from the left over heat from the fire. .

bethoo · 27/11/2009 10:13

shiny that was lucky.
i had gtt again yesterday so this is my last appaantly if i am negative i will be negative for the rest of the pregancy.
when i had mw app on monday the baby was 1/5 engaged but did not put on notes as baby can pop in and out. ceph means head down which will be in the notes. i love reading my notes when i get home even though it is usual routine stuff, my blood pressure is 90/60 i think now so nice and low.
had ex on the phone saying i will not like moving back up north as my mum will not want the kids in her house as she has cream carpets and has her own life, er no she does not work and all she wants is to tak over my life and virtually raise my kids so no qualms there at all! so now the tears have started (for him not me i have shed them all) and apparantly since i am obviousl ya lot stronger than he thought he likes me now and will not treat me badly anymore. nice to know that he thought he could get away with it and i would come back wanting more punishment!! but ot be honest though i love him there is no way in hell i am moving in with him, he even suggested i move in but sleep in the spare room, yes right so you still can control me and not let me move on with my life financially and emotionally!! i feel sorry for him but that is part of his plan i guess to make me feel so guilty! he already told me today he was late for work and did not sleep. i said dont blaime me, it is you who created this mess! i feel alot better as been talking to people who say it is nonsense that no one will want me and i am special and deserve better.

sazlocks · 27/11/2009 10:18

Hi all - am just approaching 32 weeks and getting a little fatigued with people telling me how huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge I look. At my last MW appt I was measuring exactly right. The baby has been transverse for weeks now but I guess its still got time to move ! I guess I will get the same lecture as you shiny and CTOFN mistletoekisses I also have no idea what I weigh as I haven't been weighed since booking in at 8 weeks. Figure that there is no point as I am not going to do anything about it anyway. Denial is a lovely place to be !
Had a record number of pillows and cushions in bed last night ! 2 pillows, 1 v cuhion, 3 cushions - 1 for under each hip and i cushion between my legs. No room in the bed for DH anymore !
shiny scary about your fire ! we have a woodburner as well and I am a bit paranoid about it at the best of times !

Bethoo - urgh, you poor thing going through all this with your ex. Sounds horrendous, not something anyone wants to deal with at the best of times, let alone this close to giving birth. Stay strong and keep talking to your RL friends and family for the support. You're doing really well so far.

MrsJammi - I had 3 v v small glasses of wine the other night !!! Have to say I felt a real little devil as I have not been able to drink any alcohol through this or any other pregnancy as I just don't like it - tastes like vinegar and gives me heartburn. However, those tinsy glasses I had went down a treat!!

Confess to feeling a little sicky today, plus as though a bit of a cold might be coming . Have swine flu jab booked for 9.30am tomorrow so hope the cold doesn't materialise!

bethoo · 27/11/2009 10:51

does anyone else get terrible BH at bed time? i am in agony as well as terrible upset tummy iykwim without going inot too much detail! i swear they are so painful i am convinced she will be early!!!

somewhathorrified · 27/11/2009 11:27

CTOFN the staying on all 4's and calling an ambulance is to stop the bub moving down into birth canal. The paramedics can get you into c/s withought you moving out of that position. I know you don't want to pull the ambulance away from what you consider to be 'more important' cases, but you have to consider what happens if bub does move into birth canal..is this going to put you or bub in danger? can your DH get you into the car and out again on all 4's?

I've got a horrendously itchy tummy atm (between bellybutton and pubic hair) when I scratch I get a little rash there. DH looked it up says that it's my skin reacting to baby cells, no itching on hands and feetor jaundice so not liver/bile issues. I know some of you guys had itching b4, what did you use to ease it...or was it a grin and bear it situation?

Mildly jealous of the drinkers among us, I can't drink at all atm. It literally makes me fall asleep on the spot.

Morning all

Am so sick of this constant rain, every time I set foot outside the door the heavens open! DD is fed up of being stuck inside too, and is going stir crazy, I think we might have to wrap up well this afternoon and venture out for some fresh air.

I've also been told that I am too big for my dates and have been booked for a growth scan on 7 December. I'm not too worried, its all a bit of an inexact science really, it all depends on how the baby is lying - this one is transverse so that throws all the measurements. To be honest, I don't actually look pregnant - no real bump, just a bit podgy! I was the same last time round and got all the way to 42 weeks without a single item of maternity wear and it looks like I'm going the same way this time. The drawback is that my insides are very squashed - the baby has to go somewhere!

bethoo what a prat - you really don't need this now. As others have said, keep leaning on all those around you.

Have a good day all

shinybaubles · 27/11/2009 13:05

Thanks everyone we were very lucky that ds's alarm went off - the house stinks of smoke however.
Bethoo you are sounding really strong and in control.
Well I'm going to the gynaecologist now .

Mama2b5 · 27/11/2009 20:56

hi all, well today was my last day and i really worked so first HR messed up my A/L dates so had to recalculate and send it and wait for it to be accepted!HR kept sending me stupid emails so finally got on the phone, he said he doesnt make the policy i said i dont really care and have better things to do then fight for times and so he should recalculate it and i will just agree it and sign it off! he was so annoying i was so vexed! when email came it was not any different then what i summitted apart from he done it in hours rather then days ( who really cares) whilst packing boxes and getting the paperwork off my desk the other ends party was in full swing, looked at clock it was 1pm i wanted to leave at 2pm! finally my team came around and presented me with cards and gift vouchers and platters of food!which was lovely i went to get crisps and cakes and drinks! and my collegue made a speech and i told them thanks and how when baby is here i will return to show him off!next/mothercares/bodyshop vouchers where in the big card signed by all! i finally finished work at 4.30( 1hrs and 30 mins over my usual time!) and i was one of the few left in the office others went off to the local pub!
bad news is i still have to complete my handover on monday so am slightly peeved but never mind! im finished and will go in when i feel like it!

Thanks - fraochsmum, flyima and devo - i will def be making mums grave lite up this christmas!

have a very busy weekend with charity do tomo!and baptism sunday! hope i can make it through the evening without needed to lie down!

Mama2b5 · 27/11/2009 21:00

Also Partyos! do hope you get the leaving do you really deserve!

This baby is seriously having a party in there i have been winded and cried out a few times today! lovely to know that alls well but does it have to be so painful!

quirkychick · 27/11/2009 21:08

shiny that was a close thing! Glad you are all ok.

I had a scan and antenatal appointment at the hospital today. My bp has gone down from last time and all is very well with the scan so ob/gyn doesn't think I need another scan again. Still think it's a girl. I will only have 1 other hospital appointment on 18th apart from the pre-op appointment before c/s. Other than that will be mw monitoring. So pretty pleased with that.

at bethoo's low bp!

Have spent all pm making very chocolatey birthday cake for dd's party tomorrow. Longest cake-baking in history due to constant interruptions. Dd and I ate a fair amount of chocolate mix (not much for me due to raw eggs) and chocolate ganache. nom nom nom. Pretty knackered tired now though.

MissMarjoribanks · 27/11/2009 23:22

Been to the GPs today after complaining to the midwife about soreness in my fanjo (UTI and thrush already ruled out) and she had a good peer and prod. She then said 'ooh, you poor love, it looks really sore'. extra I've got to go back for a swab to be taken on Monday so that they establish what it is, as might be Strep B, which is a bit worrying.

I bloody live at that doctor's surgery at the moment - midwife yesterday, GP today and got to go twice on Monday, in morning to GP again and in afternoon for swine flu jab. I might as well take a sleeping bag.

Also managed to do my back in this evening carrying my cello from car to orchestra rehearsal (all of 100yds). I was fine when I last went two weeks ago. Only one more week till the next concert and then that's it for me until next September.

In better news, DH has promised to do all the cleaning this weekend. I've written him a list.

shinybaubles · 28/11/2009 07:49

Hi everyone sorry to hear about your discomfort MissMarjoribanks.

Have had another scan and the baby is very def a boy and is 2.2 kilos. He has also gone head down and now I have the choice of vbac or csection if he stays like this. Not sure what to do - hmm .

Also the swine flu jab is now available here - more choices.

Have really been fancying some pate and smoked salmon so asked they gynaecologist - and was told pregnancy is not an illness and to eat what I like . She only bans two things in pregnancy smoking and spirits.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 28/11/2009 10:38

Ooooh Shiny - what choices indeed!!! So you are at the moment booked in for c/s on Xmas Eve but potentially have the option to wait for natural labour to start, and if they need to, they can whip you in for c/s at the appropriate time.

I was supposed to have my swine flu jab this morning but have really horrid sore throat, chesty cough, feel generally bleugh and was sick a few times. So I figured no point in having jab whilst being like that. My appointment was at 9.30. I tried from 8.45 and have still been trying to get through on the phone to postpone appt, but they have the answering phone on saying surgery is closed!!! How bloody stupid! Really been making me angry.

Pate (om nom nom nom), blue cheese, red wine (om nom nom nom nom). Oooh how I am drooling.

Hope everyone else ok today

shinybaubles · 28/11/2009 11:42

Wow CTOFN you have a great memory. Yes but I have childcare all sorted for 2 weeks following csection, and what happens if I try a vbac and end up with a csection I won't have any help then . although love the thought of a vbac. Well I guess it's wait and see where he is in 2 weeks at next appointment.

I am also suffering from a stinking cold and will not be having the jab until I feel better - as I hear it's not a pleasent experience. Hope you feel better soon.

mistletoekisses · 28/11/2009 11:46

Hi everyone

Shiny - i am in the same position as you. Baby is head down, no growth concerns, so I could at this stage go for VBAC. But I have almost definitely decided to do for another csection. Although sods law says this birth plan wont go to plan and will end up being a VBAC. . What are the positives and negatives for you?

CTFN - How annoying, but hope you feel better soon.

Mama2b - yay! Nearly done at work!

Is anyone else champing at the bit to start getting Crimbo decorations out?? Or is it just me? Going to Winter Wonderland yesterday really made me feel festive and we all popped out to a mahoosive garden center near us this morning where all the Christmas trees are in stock. It took every ounce of restraint on my part not to leave with one.

I am determined to wait until it is December before putting the tree up.

Hope everyone has good weekends. And that the bumps behave themselves.

somewhathorrified · 28/11/2009 12:37

Mistletoekisses I'm the same about xmas, want to get the deccys out, but I keep saying to myself that I'm not allowed until I've properly cleaned the living room and got it organised for birth. I do wonder if I'll ever get it sorted. So much to do, time running out and the classic preggy cleaning thing still not kicked in.

Hope you all have a good weekend
