Mmm - wondering how my day is going to pan out . DH gone off to a corporate rugby do, I'm supposed to be taking kids to the school xmas fete thing this afternoon, felt pretty rotten this morning, coldy symptoms, vomitting and lots of tummy cramp type things...

Took DD to her swimming lesson and had tightenings 15 mins apart (exactly)! Am 34+2 - eek.

Feel pretty sure the BHs are just going to start in force now and had lots of starting and stopping at early stages with previous 2 kids, both of which were delivered 10 days late!

But eeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkk anyway!!! DH phoning me every hour at the moment, bless! Just told him to bog off as I'm going for a sleep whilst DD is watching TV

Fraochsmum · 28/11/2009 13:40

Gosh shiny, that seriously was a lucky escape - DH is a retained firefighter and I volunteer with the cadets, so am well aware of what could have happened in a very short space of time had you not woken up. very, very pleased for you.
Your gynae sounds fantastic! What is the deal with smoked salmon though? At my friends' wedding when I was 4 months it was the starter - I wasn't too sure but there was a lady very heavily pg wolfing into it so I just followed her lead! Have also had it twice in the last couple of weeks... Only things have deffo avoided are soft cheeses, pate, soft eggs (till recently when I've been a bit naughty), and seafood.
I can understand those worrying about getting sf jab when not feeling well, but I felt no different at all. My arm is still a bit tender, but only affected me lying on it on the first night I got it done.
Hope you are ok MissMarjorie, I might have done something myself today too - helped DH carry in the kitchen worktops from the van - 3 lengths of 3 metre worktop, nearly killed myself with the last one Have now stated categorically that I will not be carrying anything else around. Our double glazing is coming on the 14th and they can just get on with it themselves.
Still not having any BH, but feeling very sorry for those who are. Get my scan on Wednedsay and am mega excited, 23 weeks since I last saw him!! After that I see mw every week till birth. Has anyone else started the raspberry leaf tea yet? I had my first cup this morning which was a strange sensation as I stopped drinking normal tea a couple of years ago. My friend (who had a 9lb 2oz boy 5 months ago) totally swears by it and is convinced that is why she "laboured so beautifully" (mw words). Anything's worth a shot in my book!
Bethoo, good on ya for keeping the sensible head on.
My mat cover has been appointed this week, so will do my handover this week then that's me done!!!! Still got my second job till 1 1/2 weeks before baba, but it's no pressure. Can't wait!
Jings, sorry this is so long!

FakePlasticTrees · 28/11/2009 14:09

so I'm just home from the hosptial - had some spotting and pain yesterday afternoon so called my midwife from work, who told me not to even come home to the hospital here, but to find the nearest hosptial in central London and go there. Went to St Thomas' who took ages to see me. Eventually told i had to stay the night as there was a chance LO was on it's way. I felt fine at this point but not good. Was not allowed to travel home. Got told off for not having my notes with me (hadn't thought to put them in my handbag going to work).

so one very very rubbish night later, I'm apparently fine but to have a couple of days off. Don't forget your notes ladies, they're really nasty when you do...

Was shocked by the large number of woman who were waiting to be induced, apparently there's a bit of a rush on at the mo.

hope everyone else is ok.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 28/11/2009 14:50

FPT - what a night for you!! Glad you're ok now but take it easy as instructed. Thanks for the tip on notes. I'm off to take kids to their school Xmas fete in a mo and have been a bit iffy today - was umming and ahh-ing about whether to put notes in my bag/the car "just in case".

Quite scary - but I guess we're all now getting to the stage where LOs can put in an appearance, albeit rather early!!

MissMarjoribanks · 28/11/2009 15:16

FPT - blimey, doesn't sound much fun but glad you are OK though. I never take my notes anywhere with me apart from my appointments - it's a timely reminder that it could all start happening at any time.

Feeling much better today - DH kept his promise and has done all the cleaning and some extra jobs not on the list I wrote for him. He did ask what I was going to do, to which I sarcastically replied 'sit on my arse and grow you a baby'. In fact I did all the laundry and some tidying.

I've had smoked salmon several times whilst pregnant, didn't think there was any issue with it at all.

crumpette · 28/11/2009 16:13

hello ladies and bumps

fakeplastictrees! yikes! Hope you are OK now.. I never, ever take my notes anywhere! I have once forgotten to even take them to a mw appt hmm, they're just so sort-of A4 size they don't fit in my bag Not sure 'but they didn't fit in my fav bag' would be a well-received excuse for not having them though...! St Thomas's is very good, I had DD there and had to wait to be induced, it seems they enjoy doing it..

shiny I just have to say you have the coolest gynae ever!

Well, no news for me, I probably won't be induced at 37wks (dec 16th) as so far baby is healthy and my liver function's OK. Likely to stay at work a bit longer now, up to christmas.

Having lots of BH though.. and some weird stabbing pains in my nether regions.. and extreme pain in my lower abdomen when I walk too far or at a normal pace, so I am now waddling pretty slowly and annoying fast city types behind me who are not pregnant...

Been finding it really hard to sleep so have just ordered the dreamgenii pillow. I had one before but stupidly got rid of it and I found it really helpful for getting comfy at night, was going to hold off but the thought of up to 6 more weeks not sleeping swung it.

lottie if you're reading this, I hope you're OK?

shinybaubles · 28/11/2009 18:11

crumpette I have those stabbing feelings too apparently it's the baby trying to get wedged in. So good pain .

fakeplastictrees I used to photocopy my notes and leave a set everywhere in the car etc. Good to know things are ok.

fraochsmum I know we had a lucky escape on the box of the wood burner it showed wood stacked around it while there was a fire lit so I thought it was ok - so stupid .

mistletoekisses well the only advantages of a csection are knowing when it will happen and being able to organise child care - because my sis lives in London and pil in Holland so it's not a case of just picking up the phone - and they are all booked in to come.
on the other hand I would love the short recovery time of a vbac as opposed to the long recovery of a csection - especially with a toddler.
but then suppose I go for a vbac and end up with a csection and then no help - hmm .
What do you think?

FakePlasticTrees · 28/11/2009 19:30

hi all, thanks for the messages, i've been in bed all afternoon and have literally just woken up to find DH is making his 'world famous' lasagne for me.

shiny there was a lady who was also in for the night who had a photocopy of her notes and she got told off too for not having the full lot! (the night staff are mean).

Def not going anywhere without them from now on, so i'm going to have to move from my gorgeous handbag I got for christmas last year to a rucksack. Still, as it only rains when you don't have an umbrella, figured this is the best way to make sure I don't have another scare when out and about!

Crumpette - the pillow will help, I was struggling to sleep until I got one. And the baby needs you to be well rested.

devotion · 28/11/2009 21:12

must remember notes from now on too.

why dont they makes them small like the baby red books and then we can stick them in our handbags?

sounds like its braxton hicks all round for everyone. i've also had some stabbing pains in my ahem today! not sure what they are? but none now, only happened earlier.

hope everyone is having a nice weekend, went and bought a lovely sheepskin for my pram today from the £50 vouchers john lewis sent me after i got stuck in their lift and a toy for the baby. the sheepskin was £40! so expensive, bit of a luxury item so only got it because of the vouchers. it looks lovely in the pram - so snug!

i have a serious nesting feeling going on and doing dp's head in about all the things i need to get now and all the furniture i need moved around to make more room and all the things i need to get rid of etc... he is like "we have loads of time" and i feel all knotted up like i want it done now.

i too want to put xmas decorations up but i want to so a massive clean first and i just dont have the energy, so tired all of the time.

no more lie in's for me, dp let me lie in today but from 7.30am baby was just constantly wriggling and poking out limbs but i refused to get up except to wee (about 4 times) then in the end i gave in to the hunger pangs! so annoying becuse dp was trying to keep dd's quiet so i could sleep but i was wide awake. guess it will be a long time before i get 8 hours of undisturbed sleep again ...

but its worth it, can not wait to meet this baby and i'm sure i will eventually train him/her to be good sleepers like my dd's, he or she has my lazy genes so they got to!... fingers crossed!!!!

lilacpink · 28/11/2009 22:33

Hi All
I've had some stabbing pains too (think it may be 'lightening' when baby practices going into pelvis), and a few weeks ago had a few BH. I didn't have any of these with DD, and I've been wondering if I won't go so overdue this time. Having thought about potential dates though, I'm hoping to be on time (10th) or later - easy to organise DS (bump) future parties then! Of course if naturally earlier, I'll just say it was meant to be

shinybaubles · 29/11/2009 08:22

fakeplastictrees I had photocopied notes when had ds in London and was told my consultant and midwife it was a great idea. Strange the different reactions of different people.

devotion I agree with the sleep thing do you think the constant peeing is practice for looking after a newborn.

I was just thinking it's funny the way things are so different here - not necessarily in a better or worse way but there are no handheld notes, no measuring of fundal height, or of how far the baby is engaged.

showmethemummy · 29/11/2009 14:37

hello all
have just finished lazy morning of catching up on thread; dh now returned with dds1&2...

bethoo hope things work out well for you over the next few weeks with moving and getting ready for new baby.

happy days those who have stopped work already! and if pg with first, wow what a treat to have some clear time to rest!! and am not envious at all, not a tad

you are all an extremely organised bunch - have not thought about, let alone bought, any xmas gifts, decorations, blah blah. tbh, perhaps i should confess to being a bit 'bah-humbug' about the whole thing. tho looks like i'll be cooking lunch for 7 plus kids at 37wks...enjoy cooking but has been a bit of a pita with pgp.

dh spent much time this week building various flatpacks. flat in permanent state of semi-chaos as we try to juggle things to make space for dd3.

re weight and size thing: my bmi was 31 at the start of this pg. i was really worried about weight gain but so far have put on 2kg. i can't say I made much effort; somehow my appetite has been alot easier to control.
i can't relate to everyone who loses weight so easily post-pg. for me both times; apart from the obvious loss, i PUT ON LOADS within the first few months, and struggled to lose it again. anyway. hope can keep things 'in check' til post baby, but don't feel hopeful with looming christmas feasts and general winter -induced increased appetite for heavy foods...

FakePlasticTrees · 29/11/2009 15:10

Showmethemummy - can't you make it a rule that everyone attending Christmas lunch has to bring a dish? (get someone to do the starter, someone to bring the pudding, someone to sort veg etc), get DH to sort the turkey then put your feet up? that's my plan anyway...

Shiny - i think the woman who was in charge of the ward on Friday night would have found something wrong no matter what. I get the impression she's a bit of a moose.

Oh and to add to the "isn't being pregnant glamorous?" list - boobs started leaking this morning. to the 2nd (3rd) timers, is it supposed to look bright orange to start with? (and please tell me it'll wash out of DH's white rugby top I was sleeping in last night ) Anyone else or am i on my own with this one?

CantThinkofFunnyName · 29/11/2009 15:55

Just seen from another thread that Alibobins had contractions last night that took her breath away and she had a show this morning around 4am! Hospital have advised her to stay put and monitor what happens. She's just 35 wks.

Obviously she could still go for weeks after the show (as lots of people do) but perhaps we can all keep fingers, toes etc crossed that she and BabyBobins are doing ok....

Fraochsmum · 29/11/2009 17:15

Oh wow, hope she is ok! I have started to get a little panicky that baby could make an appearance at any time (35 weeks tomorrow) and DH cleared a set of drawers today so I could fill it with small things. His best friend('s wife) had their baby 4 weeks early after a car accident, but I am just so conscious it could happen at any time. Fingers crossed for Alibobins x
FakePlastic I've not started leaking yet, but harking back to the days of milking coos, the colostrum was always very yellow/light orange colour. Sorry for the association, but I only have animals to compare births to so far!

showmethemummy · 29/11/2009 18:06

where is news re alibobins?? thinking of you!

FPT - when I said 'enjoy cooking' what i really meant was 'am complete control freak in kitchen...' also it's just family; one is MIL who ahem, shall we say, cooking isn't her strong point, and the other is Mother who is here from overseas.think she'll help though. planning to put MIL in charge of kids .

just small q - I hope!- I fell down a small flight of stairs on fri afternoon. more like slid down after landing fairly hard on behind. am now having funny sort of stretchy pains at top of bump. baby moving ok; no bleeding. have nice bruise on bottom though . pains probably nothing, right??

alibobins · 29/11/2009 18:54

Just updated other thread contractions still coming they did ease off slightly this afternoon but for the last hour or so they have been getting stronger have to stop what I'm doing really strong discomfort starting low down in tummy then spreadin round to my back they peak in the middle so i'm sure they are contractions
Started timing them on contraction master and they are 10 mins apart and lasting 40-50 secs only been timing since 6 so hopefully it will all stop.
Thanks for thr thoughts would really like him to bake foe another couple of weeks at least.

mistletoekisses · 29/11/2009 19:44

Ali - goodness me, are you at home? Have you called the hospital? Here's hoping your LO holds on a few more weeks. Keep popping back on and keep us updated.

Fakeplastic - sounds like colustrum to me. My colustrum was a yellowy colour and most definitely didnt stain any of my clothing.

Shiny - it really is such a personal decision over the VBAC/ Csection. Remind me, how many DC's do you have? Have you done a natural delivery before?

My reasons for going for a csection are the following:

  • Whilst I understand that a natural / uncomplicated vaginal delivery are best for both mother / baby - there is no guarantee that that will happen.
  • I have had friends who have had fantastic natural births, but on the other hand, some have had fairly tough births and their recoveries have by no means been easy/ straightforward
  • I have the scar from the first section, DH and I are not planning on a big family (99.9% sure that we are done after this LO), so balancing it all up, I think it is best for me.
The most important factor in helping me make my decision is that I have no longing to experience natural labour. I have friends who felt totally cheated by having to deliver via csection, I simply do not feel that way. I think that if I did want to experience it, I would be going for a VBAC.

Sorry to everyone else for going off on a tangent, but they are my reasons.
Here's hoping that the baby doesnt decide to come so quickly, there is no chance of a section being done.

alibobins · 29/11/2009 19:54

Rang the hospital this morning but they didn't want to see me they are getting stronger and since 7.09 they been coming every 6 mins getting slightly concerned going to try a bath then if they still coming I'd better pack my hospital bag and head off for a check up

alibobins · 29/11/2009 19:56

Also feeling very rearful

mistletoekisses · 29/11/2009 20:02

Ali - get thee to the hospital. Please! Don't let them fob you off. and dont be scared. at 35 weeks, our LO's have done lots of baking! My friends bub was born at 29 weeks and she is a very mischevious toddler now!

devotion · 29/11/2009 21:25

showmethemummy - you probably just pulled a muscle over your tummy muscle as you slipped, why dont you call the labour ward or your midwife the number should be on the front of your notes so they can put your mind at rest. its always best to tell in case they want to check you. They wont mind. Take care x

alibobins - sounds like something maybe happening there, I would just make them check me. they can not refuse to see you. mu friend gave birth 5 weeks early and three who gave birth 4 weeks early. all babies were totally fine and good weights so they obviously were ready to come out even if my friends were not!

call up and tell them you are coming in to be checked. good luck x x x x

Mama2b5 · 30/11/2009 00:28

Wow its all go on here from FPT - rest rest and more rest!
Crumpette - i also had my 1st DD in St.T - and i thought they where great by the time i was expecting DD2 they closed for refurb and so had her in Guys!moved to far for that this time!
Alibobins - I hope all is well and im sure if baby does come all will be well, go to hospital and dont wait! let them check you before out ruling anything!

I had a busy weekend and was in so much pain last nite after charity dinner my back was killing me it brought tears to my eyes,DH didnt know what to do and wanted to take me to the hospital, but i made it through and just found a comfy spot and stayed there! no drink so only 1 trip to toilet!
Thank God i could sit through the baptism it was wonderful and i cried!x
