Hi again

what are the arnica tablets for?? forgive my ignorance but i've never had them before>

CantThinkofFunnyName · 01/12/2009 14:14

Hi Party - I'm with you on the BH! 4th consecutive day of waking with sickness and then the BH's start. They continue for around 2 hours, irregular, but painful and having to breath through and rocking the pelvis!! Every day DH asks me if I think its the real thing and whether he should stay home. No, I reply - but why the bloody hell doesn't my body realise it doesn't need to prepare this time as I'm having a c/s 4 weeks today!!!

As for the arnica tablets, IMO it's for those of us having c/s - helps with the healing, bruising etc. And Vitamin E cream great for our scars afterwards!

Partyofsixsoontobeseven · 01/12/2009 14:39

Hi can'tthink will the tabs be any good for a bruised fanjo after a v. birth. (sorry tmi)

mistletoekisses · 01/12/2009 15:10

Helloooo!!!

I took arnica pre/post cs op last time and my healing was really fast. Was off painkillers by the tume I was home, hardly had any lochia and brusing/ healing was good. May have been helped by the arnica, maybe not, but for £6 am getting some more in this time! Touchwood, it does its stuff again.

Btw - my midwife last time also recommended it for natural labour. It helps with bruising and is also meant to help the body with any 'shock' associated with childbirth/ surgery.

I use the arnica stick on DS whenever he bumps himself and the bruise never seems as bad. The one time I didnt use it, he looked as though he had gone ten rounds with mike tyson!!

FlightofFancy · 01/12/2009 15:49

Hi all,
I've just had my swine flu jab, so sitting here waiting to grow trotters and a curly tail... or more likely for my arm to really hurt!

32 week midwife appointment shows everything going well - junior is nicely head down at the moment, so will carry on with the sitting on ball/yoga/sleeping on left etc and hope he/she stays that way.

Is all starting to get a bit real now (bought some cheese yesterday that has an expiry date after my due date!) - have really enjoyed being pregnant, so could carry on like this for the foreseeable, and have loads and loads to get done before junior arrives so hope I'll get the full 8 weeks I have left! Have got relatives arriving from australia next week (with my 11 month old nephew, so will get some practice in!) but have loads to do to the house before then. Then Christmas... and once some friends have left after new year we need to transform spare room to nursery (mainly by removing double bed...)!
Already have a long list of stuff to do when I finish work!

You have all at least prompted me to write a list for hospital bag - have now got a multiple worksheet in Excel with everything I need to buy/do for baby cross-referenced! Possibly the last thing I can control

Hope everyone's babies stay put for a bit longer. Best stop waffling and get some work done!

quirkychick · 01/12/2009 16:27

My swine flu jab that I had yesterday didn't hurt until the evening. Had broken sleep as hurt to lie on it. Still sore today, looks absolutely fine, hoping it will wear off soon, though.

mistletoekisses what strength etc. arnica would you use? Didn't know about it last time. We regularly use arnica "bump cream" on dd to help with bruising.

I know I healed fairly quickly and didn't need all the epidural top-ups or painkillers last time - probably because emergency but not crash IYSWIM. My policy was to take full dosage at the beginning when most sore and then found I didn't need so much later on.

I will also be stocking up on peppermint tea and prunes after wind/constipation which was truly horrible. Apparently chewing gum helps to get the intestines working too.

I haven't actually packed my hosptial/baby bag yet but I have a list. I have been so caught up with dd's party and visiting prospective schools for next year. Have pile of decorations ready for when we get tree too. Hospital bag next major job but am 32wks so think another week ok. [hopeful emoticon]

Quirky - go for 30c or 200c. 30c you take more regularly. You can pick up the 30c strength from a Boots. 200c can be bought from a Homeopath. Helios and Ainsworth both sell online. I have gone for the 200c which can be taken the day before the op and then as soon as poss on the day of the op.

I have picked up some windeze for the wind, and nothing yet to 'get things moving'. Have to say, I didnt need the windeze or anything else last time, but I would rather be prepared incase recovery this time is very different.
I had heard that about chewing gum - the sugar free varieties all contain the stuff that acts as a laxative. My only reservation about the gum is that it can also cause wind. So may relieve one symptom, just to cause another.

Is it me, or is having a baby around Christmas making it all a little crazy?? Everytime I tick things off my to do list, it fills straight up again!!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 01/12/2009 18:01

Evening LondonLottie. PMSL at the story of your journey home - I can just imageine!! I remember when I was pg with my last DC 7 years ago. We had a day of awful snow in London where all the trains were cancelled etc and it took me 2 hours to drive to collect my DS from childminder - it would have taken me 30 minutes to walk to her house - but I was overdue!!

I can remember driving the car getting, what later turned out to be Braxton Hicks, getting so worried - I couldn't even get in touch with my DH because all the mobile networks were jammed and he was walking home to Barnet from the City of London!!

So glad for you that you are home though. Even if it is just for a short while - you get the opportunity to see that everything is ready how you want it and get some time with your DH! And no, I do not think it wrong at all to be praying you don't go longer than 36 weeks.

I'm 34+5, have c/s booked for 38+5 but am on my 4th consecutive day of painful BH with sickness and I'm already wanting this over and done with. Oh well, c'est la vie and all that.

My swine flu jab tomorrow morning - cancelled the one on Saturday due to contractions! I had the regular flu jab a couple of months back and my arm hurt for about 4 days afterwards so know what I've got to come tomorrow (ouch).

alibobins · 01/12/2009 18:26

Londonlottie- Glad you are home safe and sound

Ctofn- I'm with you on the constant braxton hicks today as been pretty rough but not as painful as the other night.
All my swabs came back clear of infection so thats some good news.
Ds's asthma is really playing up today so hoping bump is happy and snug

FakePlasticChristmasTrees · 01/12/2009 20:20

CTOFN - yep, baby round Christmas is getting irritating, I've had another annoying conversation with my mum, she wants to 'help' by bringing all the food for Christmas, I have already done an oacdo order, which I told her, she's still determined to bring things. I think it's going in one ear and out the other, but then the concept of internet shopping isn't really one she gets... Of course, if bump does decide to put in an early appearance as the midwife suggested then i might not be here to eat it...

Also trying to get all my gifts by the end of the week - decided that's a decent deadline.

Need to pack the hospital bag too, really need to think about what i need/want with me...

quirkychick · 01/12/2009 20:54

Thanks mistletoekisses! londonlottie you poor thing. When I was very pg with dd loads of snow was forecast and I was really paranoid that I would be stuck in a gridlock in the snow in labour. Actually, the snow came later and I never got as far as labour!

I think I will have to get the things I need for my hospital bag online or get dp to get them as shopping on Sunday was really too much for me. [pathetic pregnant woman emoticon]

Partyofsixsoontobeseven · 02/12/2009 10:09

Morning all

Following on from yesterdays post, I got a phonecall last night from a receptionist at the surgery, saying that my iron was low and dr suggested I carry on taking the iron tabs. FFS!!! that is now 4 professionals that have contacted me to tell me this, but they couldn't contact me to say my liver bloods weren't good?????????

Hey london glad to hear you got home safe, if you weren't pg it would have been quite exciting! Hope you get plenty of rest before the girls arrive.

alibobins hope you doing ok

Thanks for the info about arnica, I will get some 30cc from boots just in case.

I looked at the pile of stuff for my hospital bag last night. Then did nothing, Just looked at it. These BH are really bloody painful, I'm kinda hoping he/she wants to join us for christmas dinner and come a bit early. But it is just wishful thinking as 4 others all 1/2 days after edd.

Hope you all are having a good day. I'm being taken out for a macdonalds brekkie as a leaving 'do'. A little to late I feel but hey ho won't complain.

TTFN

CantThinkofFunnyName · 02/12/2009 10:15

I went for my swine flu jab this morning, to be sent away, without having it, tail between my legs. One of the ingredients in pandremix, apparently is fish oil - and I have a severe allergic reaction to all things seafood!

Alas, the medics only have eggs on their list as a contraindication but given my reaction, they now have to contact the Swine Flu Medical Advisor for advice on this.

So currently 35wks pg, asthmatic and no immunity! If I have to have celvapan, that is still not available and has to be taken in 2 doses, 3 weeks apart. Baby is due to be delivered in 3 wks 6 days - eek!!

somewhathorrified · 02/12/2009 10:26

Morning all.

Londonlottie hoping that you are feeling more comfortable now your home and can snuggle down and relax. Fingers crossed you make it to 36 wks.

I have to admit to having got all the xmas pressies sorted bar some stocking filler stuff (for neices and nephews) which I'll get from the supermarket at the next weekly shop. I've got a handful of things to get still for bub. I'm finding the worst thing is having to think about a HB box and a hopsital bag, the latter just in case.

Ctofn, good luck with the SF Jab, don't forget to get it in the right arm!

quirkychick · 02/12/2009 11:41

CTFN how annoying and just a little bit irresponsible! I used to be allergic to seafood very unpleasant it was too.

I asked for a seasonal flu jab while I was there and was told I couldn't as it hadn't been got out of fridge in time as nurse was locked out of her computer . I will have to make another appointment. I live at the dr's. I feel lucky I had the pneumoccocal (sp?) last year as hopeful it will all help.

I have ordered some hospital bag stuff online, very dull: breastpads, maternity pads etc. I'm holding off on feeding bras in case they massively increase in size. Definitely boobs not so big as before, but there is still time...

I have also ordered brother's birthday stuff from amazon and filled in dd's school admissions for sept. Phew! feeling like we're starting to get there.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 02/12/2009 11:50

The most amazing thing about the fish oil thing is that I noticed it whilst reading a pamphlet in the waiting room and mentioned it to the nurse. She had absolutely no idea and would have popped the jab in my arm without any quesions asked . So we wait and see....

I must also confess to now getting more than a tad excited that I will have a brand new little baby in 3 weeks 6 days time !!!

Up until now I, rather embarrassingly, have only been concerned about not being pregnant anymore and putting an end to constant pain, exhaustion and all the other horrid things that we get .

For a late in life, unexpected pregnancy, it has taken quite a while for me to accept it and now, finally, I am smiling at other cute babies and toddlers and thinking that actually, I should be thanking my lucky stars to be given this opportunity again - particularly that I am no longer a working mother and able to experience the life of a SAHM!

So - roll on 29 December is what I say.

Shiny - if you are still going for the c/s (any decision yet?); 22 more days for you - woohoo!!!!

showmethemummy · 02/12/2009 11:57

hello all
thanks for the list

just in between things, so haven't caught up with the latest yet ( will do later with cuppa!! ) but just wanted to lob this one in here:

has anyone actually received any kind of response from their HIPg application? or am i the only one who's tried so far...

just been on phone to unhelpful man who said they've probably had the form (esp since i posted it special delivery)but it could take 3-4weeks for it to go onto the system and actually they advise to call about 8weeks after applying if nothing's happened !
have two friends who gave birth in sept/oct and neither have had theirs.

Update: GP just called me back and the Swine Flu Medical Advisor CANNOT give any advice about the fish oil (squalene) found in the vaccine, other than "it's quite common in a variety of vaccines you know"! Needless to say, my GP, who is fabulous, said, I would feel very uncomfortable recommending you have this vaccine considering the Medical Advisor cannot give me any advice. We agreed to put my name forward to the PCT for celvapan when it's available and hopefully get some coverage asap!

Ludicrous though that the only way I found out about the fish thing is by reading some small print on a pamphlet!!

showmethemummy · 02/12/2009 13:33

ctfn thank goodness you did read the small print on the thing! the nurse who gave me the jab asked me if i was allergic to eggs. but nothing else.

llottie glad you got back in one piece!

yangy sorry you're feeling like that but i have to say, you sound like me (am 33.3wks)! at least i am a sahm; dd1 is at school and dd2 in nursery 3 mornings in the week. should be THE time to get things sorted but I'm really struggling. Low iron and PGP, bad sleeping blah blah.

I've also been wishing the pg away, but think I'm also starting to look forward to baby..i think...actually at the mo a bit preoccupied with panic thoughts about labour.

can i just ask... humbly (please don't shoot me)... but what are all the things to do for xmas on your lists? mine consists of 'shop for food' and buy dh present (maybe)

quirkychick · 02/12/2009 14:22

CTFN egg is also common in a lot of vaccines but lots of people/children are allergic to it. How ridiculous! Your gp sounds great, though.

Showmethemummy I sent of my HIP form ages ago and it came through really quickly. Hope you have good luck with it.

Our Christmas list of stuff to do is long because we have a lot of family birthdays: dd's has just gone- so that's done, mine, BIL, brother, father, quite a few friends (am feeling shattered so getting stuff done is a hassle). Also have family coming over from France and MIL for actual day so organising food etc. Choosing tree and putting up decorations -involves moving stuff around. Lots of little things really.

somewhathorrified · 02/12/2009 15:34

That must be really annoying for you CTOFN! I knew about the squalene and egg thing but nurse never asked b4 sticking me!

Just sorted our room and got the amby set up in there and a book shelf for keeping nighttime baby stuff on.

Xmas list here is pressies for IL's, xmas tree and decs up and food shopping (several times cos we have no will power to leave it til xmas )

shinybaubles · 02/12/2009 15:53

CTOFN no decision yet but yes not long now.

Must make appointment for swine flu jab.... or maybe I can leave it with only 3 weeks to go .

Had a very disturbed night, with a violent bout of throwing up at 3 am, and while propping myself up on the bathroom radiator felt like my feet had been attacked by a swarm of mosquitoes - they were so itchy, I got back into bed and asked dh to get me a fork so I could scratch them - he thought I was delerious but have never felt anything like that before .

Glad to hear you're home now londonlottie.
