Hi ladies,

I'm new on this thread although have been lurking for a bit. I'm due with DC3 on 14th Jan tho having a c-section for this one so and consultant has said delivery will probably be between 4th and 6th Jan.

I have two DSs age almost 3 and almost 7. Don't know the gender of this one as baby wouldn't reveal itself at the scan.

To pick up on an earlier topic with DS1 I was overdue and read about semen triggering labour and so took action. I did go into labour 24 hours later but not sure if it was connected.....

Won't be happening this time around as unfortunately for poor DH I have completely lost interest in sex. He's disappointed as I was completely the opposite with the first two.

Hmmm, maybe this is TMI for my first post!

devotion · 12/11/2009 22:45

Hello and welcome Jasmeeen

I'm sure you will settle in here well.

Wow so you are really close to meeting your new little one. Its hard not to wish time away. My friends had their babies this week and I feel like its ages before I get to hold my little one due 27th Jan.

I have two girls age 6 and 3, the 6 year old will be 7 in March so similar ages to yours.

I don't know the sex of this baby and did not find out the other times - like surprises

I've not prepared anything yet either and need to wait until my mw comes to mine at 36 weeks to plan my homebirth. So until then I guess I should at least find out what I need as normally they say you should have your hospital bag ready 4 weeks before.

I am so excited and dh said this is our last baby so I want to make sure I enjoy every second even those moments I had after dd2 was born when I called my friend a few times and week and complained, "why did I say i wanted another baby again?" dd2 had reflux and the first 4mths were so hard but after that she was an angel.

I wish they could tell you how you can reduce the chances of your baby having reflux - anyone know?

[tmi alert] Hmm having done my requisite reading up, the perineal massage is one of those things where there is slight evidence that it does work depending on whether you are comfortably doing it/ you can be arsed.

bethoo having re-read my post it was not intended to come out so contrary (since I had not the foggiest) so apologies if it was dismissive/ brusque.

I found a leaflet from the Oxford Radcliffe hospital recommending it. A few more citations online saying that it was most effective for first timers (no previous vaginal delivery) and (not all of them say this) women who have previously had tears. It all depends on whether you consider a sample size of 400+ each in the control group and the massage group representative. They reckon they got a 9.2% improvement for first-timers which is good enough for me... although they did say that it did not make a difference to tearing urm... the other direction.

The 'sweep' that I said my friend had also happens to be called a perineal massage but one that happens in labour. This apparently does not make a blind bit of difference even though she claimed it gave her some relief.
BMJ citation

sockmonkey · 13/11/2009 07:35

MissMarjori - don't worry. I was packing my bag while in labour with DS2. We aren't all organised... well I'm not at least

Mama2b5 · 13/11/2009 08:27

Welcome jasmeeen - hope you enjoy our lovely friendly, no holding back talk on this thread!

Devotion - we are due on the same day i really hope baby comes early because looking like another whole month to wait is way to long!

Im off to hospital today for my GT test, so not happy im hungry and all i can have is water!!!!!

see you all later!

shinybaubles · 13/11/2009 08:57

Hi welcome Jasmeen.
Well have just seen the gynaecologist and my little boy has a full head of hair. And they estimate his birth weight will be 2.5 kilos - 3 kilos so 5 or 6 pounds ish. So quite a bit smaller than ds. She also asked if I had ever had my pelvis measured as it is unusual to have two transverse babies. So now I have a wrong shaped uterus and a potentially small pelvis .

bethoo · 13/11/2009 09:41

sockmonkey i prefered Spike i am afraid so was well chuffed when he appeared in a few episodes of Torchwood!!

bethoo · 13/11/2009 09:46

flyingmama i thank that is what my mw was on about as i had said about doing it in labour! she was refereing ot the muscle where as i was trying ot explain about stretching the skin outside to prevent the burning sensation which in my opinion was worse than contractions! so don ot worry your post did not offend! i am too busy being annoyed at some no it all who actually does not know it all on another thread!

bethoo · 13/11/2009 09:48

shinybabubles how did the gymo know your baby has full head of hair? i am jealous, my brothers wife baby who is two weeks old was born alreayd with lots of hair and an actual style as though it had been styled in the womb! mine are born with hair but more like the baldy man from the hamlet ads of years ago iykwim!

shinybaubles · 13/11/2009 09:58

Hi bethoo I get a scan at every appointment and she could see it, ds was also born ready for a haircut.
I did try that perineal massage when hoping for a home birth with ds and quite frankly it was so uncomfortable I gave up after first attempt. But I am a wimp.

devotion · 13/11/2009 11:30

Shinybaubles - ahh at your babies hair! They look so cute when born with a full head of hair. My friends little boy had an Elvis quiff, he looked so cute!

I was born with a full head or hair with a side parting!!! But I looked like Les Dawson weighing in at 10.11 lbs so not so cute

Re: perineal massage, i have never even attempted it, the idea of it makes me cross my legs and eyes water! I never tore both times, I just really remember my friend telling me when I was pregnant to really listen to the mw when babies head was crowning and not push but pant only to avoid tearing.

As soon as it was time to push I remembered this and did a fantastic excited dog impression and it worked a treat for me.

So get practicing panting ladies!

somewhathorrified · 13/11/2009 11:32

When I asked about the massage thing it was in reference to the antenatal one, didn't know about them doing anything like that during labour! bethoo I like the idea of using olive oil to create a nice slippery vagina during childbirth however I now have images of lying there legs a kimbo being 'basted' with oil!

Yay, finally got hold of season 4 BSG. We'll have to start a sci-fi geek thread! I loved farscape and am currently obsessed with Supernatural (not sci-fi but equally funny). I specifically stay away from the CSI's I watch way too much TV and daren't get into something that had that many offshoots and eps.

devotion · 13/11/2009 13:15

somewhathorrified - sorry i did mean that doing it leading up to when you are due not actually in labour

using oil for a slippery exit makes sense, never tried that one.

jasmeeen · 13/11/2009 16:49

Devotion - my DH also says this is our last baby but I say "never say never"

I can't believe how organised some of you are. I haven't given a thought to my hospital bag or what stuff I need to hunt around in the loft for/buy. It all feels very unreal really.

Both my boys were born with a headful of thick dark hair but sadly most of it was gone by the three month mark and replaced by much thinner and paler hair.

re perineal massage I did try it a couple of times with DS1 but soon gave up.

Mama2b5 · 13/11/2009 19:48

Hi all - hope all is good with everyone! at hospital all day for the GTT test and now have a week to wait for results- if no hear its good! if i hear from them before its not god! so i hope i dont hear from them! still have the marks where the blood was taken!!!!!!

Bye for now- enjoy your evenings i know i will xxxxx

quirkychick · 13/11/2009 20:44

Hi everyone,

I had my mw appointment today and my bp is up which is not good (prev hist of pre-eclampsia) however, urine clear. She told me I have to take it easy - I thought I was! I suppose I'm probably run down from nasty virus last wk I am shockingly tired all the time. Hopefully, it will come down next week.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 13/11/2009 21:01

Mama2b5 - hope you have a wonderful evening!
Quirky - oh you poor thing re BP. Still if urine clear, that's good isnt it? You most probably are still run down from last week, remember our immune systems go to pot when pg.

Good news my end re bloods from the cholestastis test - all clear. Waiting for bile acid results, but v likely to be fine as no more itching! Dr said most likely an odd allergic reaction . They did find out though that I've become quite badly anaemic since my last bloods were taken 3-4 weeks ago so now have iron tablets to take.

God only knows how I'm going to deal with the constipation now - it was bad enough being anaemic, but added iron !!!

Mama2b5 · 14/11/2009 13:51

Ahhh Quirkychick - all will be well im sure, postive thinking, negative results! well ermm you know what i mean!

CTOFN- I had a wonderful evening -thank you! ended early due to being tired after hospital all day!
but it was lovely went to a mexican resturant!
kids are coming home well later so just chilling in awful weather outside and im staying put!

devotion · 14/11/2009 14:18

CantThinkofFunnyName - thats great news!

Shame about the iron tablets giving you constipation though. Have you tried California prune juice (in supermarket where all the cartons of juice and dilated drinks are.)

Quirky - you've been told, its rest for you this week. Its takes a couple of weeks to get your strenghth back after a virus so listen to the doc!

Mama2b5 - i like these cosy days where you stay inside and chill. You need them when you are pregnant. I would probably be at the park right now or walking around the shopping centre feeling wrecked. Goodluck with your results too x

Hope you're all having a great weekend.

x

CantThinkofFunnyName · 14/11/2009 14:33

Devotion and others... I currently have at least 2-3 glasses of orange juice each day, at least one glass of prune juice, 3x5ml of Lactulose and oodles of water, plus fruit, veg - and bowl of fruit & fibre for breakfast!!!

With all that, I still have trouble and if I miss a day or two, I faint (consequence of bowels and baby putting pressure on blood vessels.

Upping the orange juice and prune juice quantities now on iron - fingers crossed xx

quirkychick · 14/11/2009 17:06

CTFN good to hear you have the all clear for chlolestastis test!

Thanks for the kind messages. I am actually feeling much better today, not nearly so tired . Dp did all the shopping (he normally does) but also all the putting away, plus picked up dd's medicines from chemist and wouldn't let me do anything I have been lying down most of today.

We have a home bp machine and if it's accurate my bp is not so bad now. I think I was just exceptionally tired yesterday. Not helped by the fact our freezer had packed up in the morning and we had to chuck all the food away . It is working ok now, though.

devotion · 14/11/2009 22:35

quirkychick - how annoying about the food. ah well, its just food and you dont want it affecting your bp.

your dh sounds lovely so glad you had a restful day.

CTFN - sounds like you're trying it all. Hope it eases up soon for you.

I had to take my pram out of the box today and just put up and admire it for awhile, even got my baby bag out and hung it on the pram to see what it will look like. Dh just shook his head!

I am SO excited!!!

I visualise my labour and the moment I will meet him or her every night when going to sleep. I'm thinking of it in a sport psychology way - visualisation. When my labour starts I will use tunnel vision like Linford Christie and concentrate on the prize at the end ... my partner thinks I'm mad but its all mental preparation I say

Mama2b5 · 15/11/2009 09:25

Good morning all,
Hope you had nice pleasent relaxing sat eves!
i stayed in all day doing NOTHING no kids all day and when DH went to get hem about 11pm they came in and where already dressed for bed so off they went!
today is church then off to a family member for dinner so another day of doin barely nothing love it!
Devotion - wow you have your buggy already which one did you get?
CTOFN- i had problems in the toilet department then i totally decided to have bran for breakfast everyday for breakfast and now im well and function daily!!!(Shredded wheat and bran flakes)i hated the iron tabs so glad i only had them in the early stage! but hopefully all the prune juice etc will work its magic!
Quirkychick- yes thats right you relax and let DH do it - sorry about the food!

mistletoekisses · 15/11/2009 10:32

Morning all!!

Hope you are all having relaxing weekends. Today is lovely weather after yesterdays awful rain, but we are still stuck indoors. DS has chickenpox, most his nursery has come down with them, so we have been stuck indoors since Friday. Only a few more days hopefully until the spots blister over. Am relieved they are out of the way - much better to be done before the baby arrives and friends are telling me that the younger they are when they get it, the better it is.

Sorry to hear that some of you are having niggles. My bloods were done the other week. Mini GTT came back clear and iron levels were also fine. By this point with DS, i had to take iron supplements, so am relieved!

Cannot believe that this LO could be here in as little as 6 weeks! (If as early as DS!!)

Hope all are well - Lottie, thinking of you. Devotion which pram did you get?
Welcome to the newcomers and LOL at all the sex and semen talk. Gotta love this thread.
