OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
maygirl · 07/11/2009 23:07

I've heard that too about dishwashers sazlocks, the drying program is like steam sterilising after a good hot wash. Unfortunately DH is the dishwaher here! Hope he remembers sterilising stuff is his job again!!

flyingma · 08/11/2009 03:59

Thanks all re your input. Tonight I came on to check emails and the price of a few bits on My Supermarket before going to bed.

I got sidetracked onto MadeForMums' review pages and it's now nearly 4am and I am wondering WTH everything is so complex (I know I make it so... still, indulge me ). Even baby bottles are not just bottles, there's the BPA thing to consider and then 10 reviews from different makes.

You really need a degree in rocket science to get this all sussed. I think if I find myself with some down time in Dec after finishing work and after having rearranged DH's library and DVD collections alphabetically, I am going to do a mindmap/ decision tree/ flow chart of things you need to decide on which will have on impact on other things. For e.g. before all this, I didn't know your decision for the type of car seat and pram had anything to do with one another.

So having made up my mind re the type of pushchair, I started to look into carseats. And now I need to check if my (fairly-recently-bought) car, bought with it's decent adult/child safety rating in mind, actually has ISOFIX settings which will determine the sort of carseat I can get. I am resisting the temptation to go out at this hour in my dressing gown to feel around my car because Google is unable to find me the answer to that.

/rant over
Sorry about that... think I am delirious with the lack of sleep and I appreciate that I am probably making things more complicated than they need to be! I need that pamper session that Fraochsmum got. Instead tomorrow I've got an antenatal class (2 session crammed into 1 because the MW was sick last time around - 4 hours condensed into 2. Go figure!) followed by an evening of Xmas cake baking.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 08/11/2009 12:54

Morning everyone. Bit low (read: v low, hormonal and emotional) today. Silly really - but it's my birthday and the first one since my mum died in February. I didn't really grieve after she died as I had to just get on and deal with stuff and think it really hit me today. Within an hour of waking, I realised I wasn''t receiving my usual telephone call from her.

Sorry for the me me me post. Feel a little better after typing!

Fraochsmum · 08/11/2009 14:16

That is not silly at all, completely rational in fact. It must be very difficult and days like today can only exacerbate things. I hope that you manage to have a very happy birthday anyway

OMG flyingma I don't know how you managed to stay awake that long! Hopefully you got all the info you needed in the end. I didn't get my pamper session yesterday, but will try and book one in Glasgow for Friday - feel like a wee relax before the big day!

We had our rememberance day parade in town this morning, which I attended as a fire cadet instructor. It is a beautiful day here so was getting extremely hot when standing for the silence, laying of wreaths etc. I made a joke about fainting before the ceremony, but I really felt like I needed a sit down!

Nearly a week without having a kitchen and getting very sick of takeaway meals. Will take DP out for tea tonight because he has been an absolute star putting the units together

Take care all x

CTOFN- Happy Birthday - I pray that the strength that is needed really get you through the day! My God my bday in december also dreading it!I totally understand your emotions and your feeling plus being pregnant it overwhelming and the love of your mum is a definite void! My Mum was my rock and understood me then i actually knew myself! i got on with my mum which was the hardest thing!
i have decided when i do finally use bottles to use "tommytimpee" i just like the look of them better then the avent ones!
Still seeking a buggy my DH wants the quinny zapp( small 3 wheeler) and maxi cosi car seat - but im not completely sold on that yet! considering i will be using much more then him!

Mama2b5 · 08/11/2009 17:16

Fraochmum- how are you with your and DP wedding plans is everything sorted?
i remember mine and the stress of making choices and the stress of invites and people coming and seating and i wasnt pregnant!

quirkychick · 08/11/2009 17:49

Happy Birthday CTFN!

I too am feeling very tearful and hormonal. With no such good reason as you. I guess I am probably still low after virus. I have lost 1/4 stone from being ill, not good. But I am making up for it with pie and mash for dinner!

I was given a steam steriliser that I plugged in. I bfed but used it for my avent pump. Bf counsellor said you didn't need to sterilise breastmilk but the pump is quite fiddly so I was happier sterilising it especially as the steriliser was free. I used the "cup" things that came with the pump and made them into bottles for EBM. Dd took them from early on and then absolutely refused.

However, the avent cups with screw on lids are great for baby foods and we still put snacks in them now - she's nearly 4.

I think with teats/bottles you really have to find what your baby likes and that can change as they develop. Also with cups newborns can drink EBM from a cup which doesn't affect latch etc.

alibobins · 08/11/2009 18:34

Evening all
Good to here from you londonlottie I saw your other thread when you started it. Hope time doesn't drag too much.

CTFN Happy birthday

Had a busy weekend the kids have wrote their christmas lists today Ds has asked for playmobil is 5 too old (he will be 5 28th Dec) Dd has asked for a laptop and Dsi had to tell her straight on that one.

No more bleeding over the weekend but darker discharge so going to ring midwife tomorrow sometimes I feel like this baby is trying to come out of my bum

Hope everyone else is okay

flyingma · 08/11/2009 19:30

CTOFN Happy birthday my dear.. I hope the day's been better since your post!

londonlottie Hi and thanks for that post... makes it seem somewhat better that perhaps it's not be being neurotic. I guess when so many things are out of our control (like how your pg or labour will go), we go a bit OTT over small things like what you buy for the baby!

It must be quite boring being in hospital on bedrest for such a long time! Could they not have trusted you to be at home resting. I swear hospitals are such manic places now that I hardly think they are the sort of place you would willingly go to for rest!

Thanks for the info re the BPA thing... I figured that there was some reason for the HPA or relevant UK body to ignore that whole saga and not ban it here too.

Mama2b5 We have yet to broach the topic of pushchairs as a mutual friend got the idea into DH's head that we want a Bugaboo Chamaleon. Like you, I am thinking that there is not way I am lifting or probably fitting that into my car. We've avoided the topic since as it looks like it might degenerate into a shouting match over a silly stroller which I will be using way more than him.

alibobins Oh Ali I hope that it's all ok. Not much longer to go...

So my condensed antenatal class, the MW just skipped past the whole relaxation techniques "I suggest you look it up" and figured it was more impt for her to spend the time showing us a DVD of a water birth. Thankfully the film was only short, I would have left the room otherwise but managed to avoid watching it. I honestly don't really need to see it happen... whatever happens, is going to happen, watching a DVD isn't going to make the labour process any easier or go any faster.

Hope everyone's had a nice weekend. 3 more weeks of work - 15 days, 120 hours. Yay!

devotion · 08/11/2009 20:19

CTOFN - H
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday dear CTOFN
Happy Birthday to you

Sending you an extra big special hug for today.

It must feel hard to have your 1st birthday without your mum around but I'm sure will be sending you love not just today everyday for the rest of your life.

londonlottie - sorry to hear you are on bedrest, I would like a week of that myseld but can not imagine having to be in hospital that long. But thank God for the internet

alibobins - that sounds very lazy about your instructor skipping the relaxation part, that is usually everyones favourite bit... next to the herbal tea and biscuits

I have to disagree about the dvd part. I think the more you know the better. I was terrified of giving birth this time but after practicing hynobirthing and looking at about 100 birth videos on youtube I am totally relaxed about the whole thing. From watching quite a few it helps you decide on how you would like it and things that would like to avoid. You would not know these without seeing others experiences.

Positions, backgrounds, people present, noise/people speaking/music/midwives talking to you, massage from partner etc... You read about it all but seeing it in practice you can really see if thats how you would like it etc.

I would not want to watch dvds at an antenatal class though, I would want to just do what I had paid for. Youtube is great for that.

Took the girls to see UP today, it was fantastic. We chose not to see the 3D one because the youngest does not like it and finds it too much to sit throughout. The 2d was still great and I really recommend it, very funny and imaginative story.

devotion · 08/11/2009 20:20

CTOFN - doh typed it wrong, should read:

It must feel hard to have your 1st birthday without your mum around but I'm sure your mum will be sending you love not just today everyday for the rest of your life.

Fraochsmum · 08/11/2009 21:15

Nice to see you back londonlottie, though I'm sure you are pretty fed up by now
Thanks Mama2b5, our plans are all done - bar my Ebay tiara which has taken 4 weeks to arrive and still isn't here! Might just pay a visit to Claires Accessories when I get up the road... I used to be a hotel manager and organised quite a few weddings so is not something I stress about. Really looking forward to 3 mornings of getting up when we want to, as our friends are watching the dogs
Hope the mw puts your mind at rest alibobins.
I have a very baby-focused week coming up; my first antenatal class tomorrow, 32 week check on wed, hypnobirthing wed night, then aquanatal thur lunchtime! Quite excited about meeting the other mums to be in my area - I know a lot of them but don't see them often so it will good to see how they are doing and what their birthing plans are.

sockmonkey · 09/11/2009 07:47

Happy Birthday for yesterday CTOFN. Hope you managed to have a good day.
I can't imagine how you are feeling... I started crying yesterday washing up because I am really growing to hate doing it(especially after sunday dinner) so feel very daft.

DH put the cot up yesterday. :: wibble :: I may have to try and find a better spot for it because I can't get into my drawers. DH doesn't seem to think that it a problem Well if he doesn't mind me wearing the same pants for the next 10 weeks

Londonlottie - really sorry you are stuck in bed. Still after the LOs have arrived I'm sure you will look back & wish you could do it all again.

shinybaubles · 09/11/2009 08:30

Hi everyone hope you all had good weekends, I have discovered that I really can't run aroung London like I am not pregnant am really achey now. The good news is the little one will be here in 6 weeks and I have everything except a chest of drawers to put his clothes in - I think .
Feel like I am gaining an obscene amount of weight at the moment I am 6 kilos up on starting weight - and know I will be told off by the doctor on Friday - the only want you to gain about 7 here and I have another 6 weeks to go. .

bethoo · 09/11/2009 09:57

i never sterilised at all the first baby as bf til 14 months then the second time round i heard you sould stop sterilising at 8 month! whoops but then dd is fine {i hope!) i got a steriliser off ebay for a tenner which works fine, esactly the same as the avent one just no avent sticker on it. more often than not i just boiled a kettle and poured it over! i always think too sterile can weaken a childs immune system anyway but that is me.
what is the difference between the two sf jabs as i am being offered one and it is the one begining with p we have here. so may have it since i have been hearing the sf can be extremely bad for us ladies! scary thought.
i weigh 66 kilos now so no idea how much that is but i usually weigh about 52-55 kg so dare not imagine how much i am in stones!
i was almost in tears last night as drank far too much coke whilst watching House then was literally up every 5 minutes emptying a litre of wee! the nhad a dream about a while village where they killed and ate people who drove through! one of those places where once you are in no matter which road you take there is no getting out and keep ending up at the same place! i wonder what the hell that one means??
saw my neice at weekend azs only 2 weeks old and even now i cant beleive my kiddies were ever that small even at birth she is just so tiny. and hair so fluffy it is as soft as rabbits fur! my ds 2yr was stroking her hair all day!
belated happy birthday for CTOFN Devotion good news about scan
Londonlottie welcome back and keep your feet up x
would love a baby shower but got most things already and have no one to invite

CantThinkofFunnyName · 09/11/2009 11:03

Morning everyone and thanks so much for your birthday wishes. Sorry was feeling so sorry for myself yesterday. It's been a bit of an emotional year one way or another. Odd really as I'm usually quite the cold hearted type - no-one EVER sees me cry etc, not that I don't, I just don't like people to know that I do or see it!

Maygirl - I love the idea of your bump cake. Your friend is very lucky to have you put all that effort in. The whole evening sounds fab.

Bethoo - Like you, I have been given everything I need and have no-one really to invite to a shower - would feel a bit cheeky

ShinyBaubles - As of this morning, I have now put on 2 1/2 stone, which equates to 35 pounds, equals 15.9 kilos!! WTF is this about only putting on 7 kilos???? Ridiculous Belgian system

LondonLottie - lovely to see you back on here. Can't imagine how you must be feeling, makes the rest of our rants etc pale in comparison

Sockmonkey - sorry, but I had a bit of a giggle this morning when I read that you cried because you don't like doing the washing up anymore. Isn't it funny/ridiculous the things that set us off now?

Alibobbins - my 6 yr old girl this morning asked for Playmobil too... Do let us know how you get on with mw though. You must be worried about bleed/discharge etc

Had some private physio this morning for SPD which felt nice (can't say its made a huge amount of difference, but did feel lovely at the time). Tomorrow have consultant appointment to finalise c/section stuff and also discuss my request for a sterlisation at the same time. As for rest of today, plan on watching Loose Women with Robbie Wiliams at 12.30 (yey) and not much else - oh, apart from watching Friends DVDs that DH bought for birthday yesterday

maygirl · 09/11/2009 11:10

Hope you had a nice b-day CTOFN, and you were able to have some happy moments too with thoughts of your mum.

Good to see you back Londonlottie

I was reduced to tears by car seat shopping last time, when the ones I wanted wouldn't fit in my car. Big expensive decisions!

Mate's baby shower lovely, I left really late as we couldn't stop chatting, so not home till after half 9 last night. Had a good blub on motorway listening to heartbreakers radio session !!

Got given some lovely gifts too by lovely friends.

I've gained 20 pounds Probably more on the way after the amount of cake I ate yesterday! Better crack open the Ten Minute Pregnancy Pilates DVD! Is anyone still doing it? I remember a few of us bought it in the earlier days of the thread!!

somewhathorrified · 09/11/2009 11:51

Hi Ladies

Happy Birthday for yesterday CTOFN.

Bethoo those dreams are about feeling trapped and anxiety issues...either that or you've been watching too many horror films! I had a dream last night where I gave birth ( he just came out while I was walking...yeah if only!) he popped out and said " hello mummy I'm Michael"... I should point out that Michael is not a name on the list. Odd.

Last time I weighted myself (a couple of weeks ago) I had gained 2 1/2 stone as well...are you sure that the 7 kilos isn't refering to the first trimester? Seems ridiculously low weight gain for a pregnancy.

Bless one of the cats is being skitty after we had the chimney sweep around this mmorning, I do wonder how they are going to cope with a MW or 2 being here for a HB.

FakePlasticTrees · 09/11/2009 12:13

flyingma - my DH went off the bugaboo when he was stood in John Lewis looking at the price tag - my MIL has kindly offered to get us a pram and we've asked for the icandy Cherry.

We did do an evening in John Lewis trying to take them apart/put them together etc - might be worth going doing that with your DH and then he can see you struggling to cope with the weight (then try something much lighter and see if he gets it after that!).

Tried to talk to my parents about things for the baby yesterday - DF says he won't get anything in advance. Think I'm going to have to have another chat and say we are going to get what the baby needs and they can donate towards the massive credit card bill if they want...

I'm having a sort of baby shower, I've asked for a 'no gifts' one - mainly as we're planning on having a christening and it'll be a bit grabby to have two events where everyone's expected to buy you a gift. We've named it a 'pre baby afternoon tea'. Only gift requested is to bring a cake - doing this end of nov to avoid Christmas season...

CantThinkofFunnyName · 09/11/2009 12:14

LOL at Somewhat's dream!!!

blondiep14 · 09/11/2009 12:28

Hi all, hope everyone is well.
I'm sorry, these threads get too long for me to plought thru when i'm busy with DS in the day & I'm too knackered at night!!
Am begining my last week of my 20's this week, kinda wish I could drink at the weekend to welcome my 30s! Had imagined my 30th being quite aglam affair, not looking like a beached whale at 32 wks preggers!! Oh well, i shall make the best of it and scoff out!!

bethoo · 09/11/2009 12:44

maygirl i have somewhat let myself go and every sunday i tell dp that i am going to start the pilates dvd again as once i start it i enjoy it but to be honest after the housework then putting kids to bed i just want to relax then go to bed by 8!!! am determined ot look as good as the istructor did at 36 weeks but i feel i have already overtaken her bump size already!

Mama2b5 · 09/11/2009 17:21

hi all- after the aches and pain i had yesterday i decided to treat myself to a well earned sleep in and never got out of my bed unless it was to go to the toilet! my legs were throbbing last nite the pain was horrible i decided to brave it and get into a hot bath and just try to ease the pain a bit, baby was body popping and i nearly fell asleep in there! then struggled to get up and out for nearly 15 mins( SPD)
i finally go up about 3pm and just sat in bed flicking the tv channels until kids came home!
i feel very relaxed and am so grateful DH looked after me! this is just letting me know wot i can look forwards to when the end of the month comes! so bring it on i say!

LL - even though rest is good that must be so hard for so long! sorry!

Baby shower is so not my idea have 2 children before never had this before but friends all want to so what could i say! i have friends from work, childhood friends all ready to do this! any excuse for a get-together!no booze, but loads of baby talk!

maygirl · 09/11/2009 18:10

I have no chance of looking as toned as her Bethoo, v depressing! My pregnancy Belly Dancing DVD has a much more realistic pregnant mama!
I never manage to do it after toddler bedtime routine despite planning too. DS has to miss out on Cbeebies and let me have a turn with the telly! He sometimes joins in, that skinny pilates lady on the DVD doesn't have to cope with someone small using her as a 'tunnel' or a 'horse' as she exercises on hands and knees!! The 'tunnel' is closing in on him as bump grows .
I did a good gym class for pregnancy/postpartum last week, called BodyVive, its low impact with some pelvic stability/hip/bum/thigh moves. Much of it involves holding and squeezing a purple rubber ball in hands or between thighs, so much innuendo amongst giggling ladies in the class, as you can imagine!

Picked up an un-melted avent handpump off a freecycler today, v pleased!

Happy 30th for the weekend Blondiep14
